Biden’s health secretary tells reporters ‘there is no magic bullet’ on abortion
Health Secretary Xavier Becerra told reporters Tuesday that there’s no “magic bullet” that could restore Americans’ constitutional right to abortion, but said the administration was still working with its top legal advisers to explore every option, including ways to increase access to medication abortion.
“Stay tuned,” he said.
Becerra has announced several steps aimed at protecting existing protections for women, including ensuring that pregnant patients can get emergency medical care and safeguarding patient privacy. In his remarks, Becerra also noted that federal law allows for abortions through its Medicaid program in cases of rape and incest — a standard at odds with states like Arkansas.
The actions though were not expected to open abortion access to most women in states that have banned it.
Let me get this straight: the Brandon admin knew a decision was coming down months and months ago. They had to think there was a good chance the Constitution conservative judges would knock Roe down. The leak happened on May 3rd, so, they had almost 2 months to put a plan together. And this is all they have? I guess that’s a good thing for the pro-life side, but, it mimics almost everything else this admin is doing, whether it’s baby formula, inflation, food prices, you name it, always behind.
Just 1% obtain an abortion due to rape, and .5% from incest, per a USA Today report. Only about 6% are for the true health of the mother. So, the vast majority are for convenience. It’d be a hell of a lot more convenient if they used contraception, with is readily available and affordable in 2022.
When pressed by ABC Senior White House Correspondent Mary Bruce on why he didn’t have more concrete proposals if the ruling was predictable, Becerra noted that he wanted to ensure the administration was on firm legal ground.
Yeah, they had almost 2 months to do this since the leak. And, now, they really do not have much, because the ruling said this is a state’s rights issue, not a federal one. It’s up to the states to decide.
Becerra’s comments are likely to be a steep disappointment for progressives after he promised to take action in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling.
“How we respond will speak to how we view the rights, the dignity and the well-being of women everywhere,” he said, before taking questions from reporters. “At HHS, we will leave no stone unturned.”

Taking Mr Teach’s data at face value, America has approximately 6000 women seeking abortion after being impregnated against their will by male rapists, 3000 girls impregnated by male family members and 36,000 pregnant women whose life is in danger from their pregnancy after being impregnated by males.
Should these girls and women be stopped by the government from having needed medical care?
88.3% of abortions in the US are conducted at 12 weeks gestation or less, with 1% after 20 weeks, largely for medical reasons.
All methods of contraception have rates of failure.
Most women seeking abortions are poor or very poor.

Most Americans were ok with some abortion, particularly with rape/incest/medical exceptions for the life of the mother. But no, the Leftist Whackos couldn’t be happy with that. They had to push for abortion up to and BEYOND regular gestation/birth (see former VA Gov. Northam’s statements on allowing the mother to decide AFTER the baby was born).
Now it will be up to the state’s to decide, which means each state’s voters. As it legally should be, since there is no Federal Constitutional right to be found – Roe v. Wade and Casey were ALWAYS on shaky legal footing.
And BTW, being poor doesn’t give you special Constitutional rights. You get to follow the law like everyone else.

For that argument to make any sense, the Republican legislatures in the “banning-states” could have invented laws addressing those issues. But no, many have banned any and all abortions, even threatening those who might help a woman obtain a legal abortion in another state!
To argue that the draconian laws are in response to what a former VA governor said is plain silly. Anyway, Northam did not propose infanticide.

3rd trimester abortions are very rare anyway (~ 1%), and not performed for “convenience”, but for medical reasons. Forced-birth Americans are NOT concerned about 3rd trimester abortions but use them for forcing their own religiously-inspired draconian beliefs on others.
If an anencephalic baby is born, would you use all limits of medical science to keep them alive, knowing they absolutely could not survive off life-support???
The “feeling” that personhood begins at conception is a religious “belief”, used as a shillelagh to control women’s behaviors. If a forced-birth conservative really believed they would ban IUDs, morning-after pills and would monitor for miscarriages (both apparent and unapparent) where 30-50% of new “persons” are lost every year.
