Pro-Lifers Should Worry More About Other Things Than Abortions Says *Checks Notes* Vatican

This is the same Vatican led by a Pope who seems more concerned with climate crisis (scam) than most other things, and seems to want to avoid pushing pro-life. First it was, in relationship to denying Nancy Pelosi communion

(Newsweek) However, Pope Francis, who is head of the Catholic Church, has previously urged bishops to tread softly on the issue of denying people the Eucharist—which Catholics consider the body of Jesus Christ—and advised the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops against adopting a policy that would have denied communion to President Joe Biden.

On September 15, 2021, Francis was asked about the issue of bishops denying pro-abortion politicians the right to participate in Communion and said he had never refused the Eucharist to anyone.

“What should a shepherd do? Be a shepherd and not going around condemning or not condemning,” the pope said.

So, talk softly and don’t talk too much about abortion. But

(Crux) Two days after Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone announced that U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was barred from receiving communion in San Francisco over her support for abortion rights, Pope Francis offered support to a pro-life demonstration, saying that life is a gift from God.

On Sunday, Francis thanked those who took part in Scegliamo la Vita (Let’s Choose Life), Saturday’s march and pro-life demonstration in Rome, applauding participants for “your commitment in favor of life and in defense of conscientious objection, the exercise of which is often attempted to be restricted.”

The pope said that “unfortunately,” in recent years “there has been a shift in the common mentality, and today we are increasingly inclined to think that life is an asset at our total disposal, which we can choose to manipulate, give birth to or let die as we please, as the exclusive outcome of an individual choice.”

And now, in the wake of Dobbs killing of Roe v Wade

(Insider) The Vatican’s Pontifical Academy for Life has praised the US Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade which protected abortion rights for women.

But, the Pope himself? He celebrated, but, didn’t actually mention the end of Roe. Which is followed by Wokeness!

Pro-life is not just opposing abortion, Vatican says after U.S. ruling

Anti-abortion activists should be concerned with other issues that can threaten life, such as easy access to guns, poverty and rising maternity mortality rates, the Vatican’s editorial director said on Saturday.

In a media editorial on the United States Supreme Court’s ruling to end the constitutional right to abortion, Andrea Tornielli said those who oppose abortion could not pick and choose pro-life issues.

“Being for life, always, for example, means being concerned if the mortality rates of women due to motherhood increase,” he wrote.

He cited statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showing a rise in maternity mortality rates overall and that the rate was nearly three times higher for black women.

You’d think they could just give the Wokeness a break and just celebrate the end of Roe.

  1. The catholic but not Catholic Elwood P. Dowd says:

Welcome to the Republic of Gilead, a nascent theocracy based loosely on Catholicism.

    • CarolAnn says:

You mean that simply recognizing that R v. W was an unconstitutional law turned our nation into a theocracy?

You really hate the idea of democracy don’t you? Or is it only when people don’t vote the way you command them to?

I used to think some of the guys here were harsh when they called you names like commie or Nazi or fascist. Now I think they may be right. You really have a problem with the word “NO”.

You realize you side with China, N. Korea, Vietnam and several other commie/fascist countries who also have abortion on demand. Oh, and anti gun laws too. Don’t you ever get tired of siding with tyrants and calling people of faith “Theocracies”?

You’re not even a woman for crap sake. How many kids did you have aborted?

      • Elwood P. Dowd says:

        CarolAnn,

Perhaps you don’t understand democracy. When states selectively limit access to the ballot box and gerrymander districts in such a way that majorities no longer dictate representation, you no longer have democracy. Republicans do not support democracy.

Christian conservatives declare that personhood starts at conception, that is, the fusion of a sperm cell with an ovum. There is no reason to base law on this opinion. Judaism considers personhood to begin at birth. Why do you discriminate against Jews in Con states? Isn’t THAT unconstitutional?

We get it. Christian conservatives in the AFP (formerly GOP) set out to overturn Roe v Wade decades ago. Putin, trump and McConnell delivered. This is a victory for anti-Americanism as it destabilizes the nation.

Cons worry about constitutional rights… Is there a right to vote? A right to use contraceptives? A right to marry outside your “race”? A right to marry someone of your own sex? A right to walk down the street without answering to a police officer?

You conflate the freedom to obtain an abortion with the forced abortions and infanticide in China and North Korea.

You advocate that women who don’t wish to be pregnant should be forced to have a child. Do you realize that all contraceptive methods have a failure rate? Do you realize that the age of consent is at least 16 years so any pregnant girl under 16 is likely a rape victim? Would you deny her the OPPORTUNITY for an abortion or would you force her to have the child?

        • david7134 says:

          Jeff,
This action on abortion is one of the first that I have seen which actually supports our Constitution as written. It is one of the first actions of Federalism I have seen since the 60’s. As I have said before, if you got a proper education, much of this would be secondary nature. And by the way, having been fired and no longer having to worry with your dead corporation, you have a lot of time.

          • L.G.Brandon!, L.G.Brandon! says:

Dowd, it is amazing how much hatred and vitriol you can muster up for people who just want tiny babies to live yet seem unaffected by those who want the “right” to kill them. You do realize that with our modern science we can determine when the baby (or whatever name you wish to call it to assuage your guilt) achieves life, it’s own DNA and the desire to survive. Just follow the science. So at what point are you willing to admit abortions should be forbidden? 5 weeks, 15 weeks, 26 weeks 9 months, 2 years? Let’s start here and see if we can find a compromise.

At what point is abortion killing a human in your brilliant medical and scientific opinion?

            FJB

          • Elwood P. Dowd says:

I supported the conclusions of Planned Parenthood v Casey, which was a compromise.

          • Elwood P. Dowd says:

            Porter,

Since Obergefell, Loving, Griswold and Lawrence were decided using the same reasoning as Casey/Roe do you advocate reversing these decisions on same-sex marriage, interracial marriage, privacy of sex acts and contraception, leaving these decisions to the individual states?

The problems started when shithole states like Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas etc started abusing their own citizens based on skin color, sex, religion etc. The federal gov’t has responsibilities to ALL Americans and couldn’t allow the states of the old confederacy to deprive citizens of their rights. Is your argument now that those days are over and it’s time to let states go back to abusing certain citizens?

        • James Lewis says:

          Dear Elwood:

          “Perhaps you don’t understand democracy.”

Seeing as how we live in a constitutional republic with democratic institutions I guess I don’t.

  3. With Roe where it belongs, in the trashcan of history, now is the time for the Church to push more forcefully on ending capital punishment, and for pro-life advocates to understand that this does, and should, mean an end to the death penalty.

Right now, we have capital punishment on the books, and sentence people to death reasonably frequently, but almost never actually execute anyone. That, in itself, tells us just how useless it is, that we do not actually need to execute anyone, considering that almost all death row inmates die in prison of something other than execution. It’s a huge waste of time and money.

Since the restoration of capital punishment in 1976, there have been three men executed in Pennsylvania, and all three were ‘volunteers,’ men sentenced to death who were just tired of it all, and voluntarily dropped their appeals.

Here in the Bluegrass State, three men have been executed since 1976, and two of the three were volunteers.

For what is the death penalty actually used? For prosecutors and juries to say, “We’re really, really angry with you for what you did,” and the prosecutors know that, for the greatest part, the condemned men will never be executed. So, we spend gobs of extra money on the trials, and then gobs more on the special conditions on death row, and then tons more on continual appeals, all to have these guys die of old age.

The latest? A condemned man won his case with the Supreme Court, saying that lethal injection would be a very cruel way to execute him, due to the poor condition of his veins, and that he should get to select another form of execution. He selected a firing squad . . . a form of execution not approved under his state’s law! How much money did all of that cost the state?

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

In my opinion, the state killing of a person, even a person convicted of a heinous crime after due process, should be stopped. But the Supreme Court disagrees with my opinion.

Is there an argument to be made that it should be left to the states as it is now? Almost all red states still have active capital punishment. WV and AK do not! Most blue states do not. Some blue/purple states with capital punishment on the books have governor moratoria blocking executions (CA, OR, PA).

      Amendment VIII
Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.

It’s somewhat surprising that the state killing a citizen is not considered a cruel or unusual punishment by the various Supreme Courts. But much like ending pregnancies, the founding father generation approved of capital punishment.

      • Dana says:

The sage from St Louis wrote:

In my opinion, the state killing of a person, even a person convicted of a heinous crime after due process, should be stopped. But the Supreme Court disagrees with my opinion.

The Fourteenth Amendment specifies that “nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law.” That pretty much states that a state can deprive a person of his life if due process is followed; the Constitution clearly contemplates and accepts that capital punishment is allowable.

My point is that yes, capital punishment is legal and constitutional, but that we should drop it anyway; it is not somehow constitutionally required.

  4. Elwood P. Dowd says:

Several major corporations (e.g., Apple, Meta, Microsoft, Amazon, WalMart, Dick’s, Goldman, Starbucks, Nike, Warner, Disney, Kroger, Comcast, JPMorgan, Netflix, Uber and others…) have stated their benefits will cover reproductive services for employees in trigger law states who must travel out of state.

Should the red states enact laws to restrict this travel to pro-choice states?

What’s not clear yet is how US federal installations, like the DOD, in abortion ban states will respond.

    • James Lewis says:

      Dear Elwood:

I don’t see how a state could restrict the travel between states for any reason.

However, the 10th gives the states the right to write their own laws, the imposition of them has sometimes led to disagreements that may or may not cause the Fed to act.

E.g. Colorado has legalized the growth, gathering, sale and use of pot. The Feds have chosen not to interfere.

Could a state forbid a corporation from facilitating the travel of a citizen who is doing so to commit a crime?

Yes, the Chinese had it right.

      We live in interesting times.

      • Elwood P. Dowd says:

        James,

        But note:

Both Texas and Oklahoma recently passed abortion bans that allow private citizens to sue people who perform abortions or who otherwise help someone get one.

If an Oklahoman drives a woman from Blackwell OK to Wichita for an abortion, doesn’t the driver risk being sued? How about a Kansan who picks her up in Blackwell OK? Could a Texan sue a doctor in NM for performing an abortion on a Texas girl?

If it works in OK and TX, it’s likely that other shithole states will copy them.

        • James Lewis says:

I’m not sure someone can sue someone for performing a legal act in that state. I don’t think so.

Within the state, perhaps. I don’t know the laws re abortions in TX and/or OK now that Roe v Wade has been wiped away.

OTOH, if the act violates a state law I would think the state would charge/try the party performing the act.

  5. drowningpuppies says:

drowningpuppies it is</em> amazing how nuts they go when something doesn’t go the way they want. I just can’t understand why they’re so adamant about killing babies. This is the type of person Dowd is:

Their ability to hate human life is reflected in their politics from uncle Adolf to Kim. They never change.
They were slavers, lynchers, the prisons are 90% dems and now they are baby killers. There is no salvation. They have replaced God with the cult of death.

    • drowningpuppies says:

You don’t like the decisions yesterday and today?

You’re really not going to like the next part.

I mean, it’s your fault, but you’re not going to like it.
See, we were cool with the status quo.

Yeah, we wanted abortion to go back to the states. Yeah, we wanted gun rights expanded. Yeah, we wanted our kids safe from LGBTQ indoctrination.

But it wasn’t enough to fight about.
We thought you were like us, that we could argue and make small gains and lose some ground but everything staying fairly level and levelheaded.

      But boy, were we wrong.

Because while we were copacetic and just going along to get along, you were pushing.
You pushed abortion. From “legal, safe, and rare in these specific instances”, you pushed now to the point of post birth abortion on demand for any reason.
You pushed gun control. From “background checks and gun free zones” to now “red flag laws” which deny due process.
You pushed “the rights of gay marriage” to now the “right of LGBTQ teachers telling kindergarteners about their sex life.”
And during all of this, you pushed disagreeing politically to calling us Nazis and justifying violence against us, justifying harming our families and our jobs.
      So now, we push back.

      We pushed back with Trump.
We pushed back with state legislators.
We pushed back with school boards.

And we haven’t even begun to push back, kiddo.
We’re going to push abortion back to the “rare” side in many states.

We may give you a timeframe like 12 to 15 weeks, about what your beloved “other industrialized nations” give.

      We may not.
We’re going to push back on gun control.

We’re not going to accept your offer of “you can keep some guns until we decide to get rid of them.”

We’re going to elect legislators to make ownership easier. We’re claiming our rights back.
We’re going to push back on the LGBTQ agenda.

We’re going to make your lives miserable when you try to get our kids to question their gender.

We’re going to remove the power you think you have and put it in the hands of the parents.
You had a chance to call a truce.
You had a chance to be in control and be happy.
You had a chance to just leave us alone.

      You didn’t.
You pushed and prodded and provoked.

And you’re threatening to commit violence now?

      Good luck with that.
There’s a saying about the danger of making people who want to be left alone get involved.

      You’ve made us get involved.

So all of it, from here on out, is squarely on you.

Enjoy the whirlwind you have so deservedly reaped.

  7. Elwood P. Dowd says:

Actually, conservatives were the slavers and lynchers. Most criminals are Christians. Most women seeking abortions are Christians.

There is no evidence to support the idea of gods.

The majority of Americans who support abortion rights are not killers or a death cult.

Connies do not wish to save babies, they wish to control women. Since birthing is some 50 times more dangerous than abortions, so yes, more women will die with abortion bans.

Do you agree that the government pick up all expenses for the care of the pregnant woman the state is forcing (unless you agree to have the sperm donor pay)? How about child care, education, healthcare? Almost all women seeking abortion are poor. Perhaps if there wasn’t such a financial hardship the woman would be more likely to welcome motherhood.

But of course, your interest in babies ends at birth.

    • James Lewis says:

      Dear Elwood:

“There is no evidence to support the idea of gods.”

As a believer I find you, your own proof. Would God have produced such as you? But then I remember:

      “Jeremiah 1 1
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” “Ah, Sovereign LORD,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am only a child.”

And as a child I cannot know your reasons.

    • david7134 says:

      Jeff,
You are offensive implying that those of us in the South are mean to blacks. Hopefully we can return to better days. I remember in the 50s how happy the negros were. In my progressive part of Mississippi they were even allowed to come to town on Saturday morning. Most towns restricted them to Wednesdays, but that was a stress on their jobs. I am sure the new normal will take that into account now. They were so happy with our compassion. In fact, we allowed them to sit in the movie balcony, again, very appreciative. LBJ and Kennedy really took away their happy times.

      Your moral narcissism is amazing.

      • Elwood P. Dowd says:

        Porter,

The South has a long history of offenses against Black citizens. No doubt it’s better now than it was.

    • Facts Matter says:

Moral Compass is important for any country. Without one, you get a third-world banana republic like Somalia, Venezuela, Cuba, etc.

Our constitution was founded on the framework of Christian Morality. 99 percent of the people living in the country during the writing of our constitution were Christians. The Constitution itself is filled with parallels to the new and old testaments.

The morality of our nation is given to us by Religion. Even Hindu and Muslim Religions preach, love, peace, and tolerance but draw limits to each. It is why the left wishes to end institutions it does not like……Keith Olbermann Calls for Supreme Court to Be Dissolved over Pro-2A Ruling 12,565 Keith Olbermann responded to the Supreme Court’s pro-Second Amendment ruling Thursday by calling for the high court to be dissolved.

An atheist can be moral but there is no guiding moral compass to lead billions of people in a direction. I would desire that you produce the Atheist bible so I can study it and see if it is applicable to morally running a nation of divergent souls. A real bible and not a collection of jokes and quotes such as:

When I think of all the harm [the Bible] has done, I despair of ever writing anything to equal it.
      Oscar Wilde

“All thinking men are atheists,” Ernest Hemingway famously wrote. His books were also filled with despair. He left his fortune to an estate that takes care of cats with 6 toes and while I love cats, I find that morally questionable. Could he not leave his fortune to take care of the sick, needy or homeless. Perhaps start an atheist school?

The lack of a moral compass is why the USSR dissolved. Also Why the USSR had thousands of corrupt and uncaring millionaires running the country while the rest of the people starved and when they complained they were shuffled off to Siberia and reeducation training camps.

In China they repress religion and again you have a hundred billionaires who are uncaring and ruthless helping to fund and run the country. People have no guns so they kill each other by driving a bus off a bridge killing 50 people because they are angry. They are welded in their high rises until they die from starvation because the apartment tested positive for Covid.

In North Korea, defecting soldiers are operated on to remove dirt from the bellies and digestive tract because of the high moral desire of an Atheist dictatorship to ensure all his people have a great life.

I could go on and on. Man is imperfect and as such fails at every turn. But because we fail to build a FUSION REACTOR the first or second time does that mean we stop trying? When Nasa built rockets they blew up over and over. Should we stop? Should we give up on morality because we fail or should be continue to attain that which was commanded of us?

34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another.”

A nation without a moral compass is akin to an ant colony. Everyone working helter-skelter, climbing over each other to get from point A to point B. Ant colonies are surprisingly effective at getting to their destination and if we repeat their process what is the cost to the citizens to get from point A to point B?

  8. Professor hale says:

Now that Roe v Wade overturned is “settled law” I expect all the pro abortion activists to follow through on what they have been preaching for 30 years and STFU. Oh, but then settled law only applies for leftist cause wins.

  9. Dana says:

Satan v Wade turned on the question of whether an unborn child is a legal person. What would happen if Kentucky officially recognized, through an act of the legislature or an amendment to the state constitution, that an unborn child is a legal person, and then a pregnant person woman travelled to Pennsylvania to get a legal abortion? Since the Constitution requires that the states give full faith and credit to the decisions of other states, would not the abortion facility in Pennsylvania have to follow due process of law, including assigning to the unborn child legal representation, and have to go through all of the steps required by due process before having a court decide that the unborn child may be executed?

    • Professor Hale says:

You mean like how currently residents of one state cannot travel to another state to legally buy a gun of even cigarettes taxed at a lower rate? A Supreme court decision upholding the right to interstate commerce and unrestricted travel could have far reaching consequences.

Sadly the test cases that will arise from this will center on laws that prevent activists from transporting underage pregnant girls to abortion clinics without parental consent. So those cases will focus on the rights of parents, not commerce.

Democratic party activists love them some human trafficking.

    • L.G.Brandon!, L.G.Brandon! says:

Again Dana, the radical left has so bastardized the constitution the states DO NOT need to give full faith and credit to the decisions of other states. Try telling the Spokane police you have a right to carry a gun because you’re from Texas. The left has twisted itself into a pretzel attempting to get its way on every issue to the point they can’t even define what a woman is for fear of “offending” some pervert.

Remember how they twisted themselves up trying to say private companies can deny people their rights because they aren’t a “government” only to be found out to be working in collusion with government to suppress other speech and opinion? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
