Washington Post: Trump Claims Of Executive Privilege Are Him Action About The Law Or Something

These types of claim only applied from January 20th, 2001 to January 19th, 2009 and January 20th, 2017 through now. There was a big black hole of coverage during eight years

Trump’s claims of executive immunity lead to criticism he is acting above the law

In a series of legal maneuvers that have defied Congress, drawn rebukes from federal judges and tested the country’s foundational system of checks and balances, President Trump has made an expansive declaration of presidential impunity that would essentially place him beyond the reach of the law.

Both in courts and before Congress, Trump’s legal teams are simultaneously arguing that the president can’t be investigated or indicted by prosecutors because Congress has the sole responsibility for holding presidents accountable, and that the House’s impeachment inquiry is an unconstitutional effort that the White House can ignore.

“We have a president who simply doesn’t believe that Congress is a coequal branch of government,” said Elliot Williams, who helped run the Justice Department’s legislative affairs office during the Obama administration. “That’s a huge departure from anything we’ve seen in our lifetimes.”

The broad legal effort escalated on Tuesday when the White House counsel sent a letter to House Democratic leaders dismissing Congress’s impeachment inquiry as “illegitimate” and stating that the entire executive branch would refuse to cooperate with it. (snip)

Citing executive privilege, the Trump administration has blocked several officials from testifying before Congress or handing over documents in recent months. In a dramatic move Tuesday, the White House blocked House investigators from deposing Gordon Sondland, the U.S. ambassador to the European Union, just hours before he was set to testify as part of Democrats’ impeachment inquiry into whether Trump abused his office by pushing Ukraine to investigate his political rival.

It should be noted that this is in the straight news section, on the front page, not in the opinion section as you probably guess. Anyhow, consider the amount of executive privilege claimed by Barack Obama during the Operation Fast and Furious probe, for which we still haven’t gotten all the information. Heck, Attorney General Eric Holder was held in contempt of Congress over this. Then there was the IRS targeting scandal, Hillary Clinton’s server issue, Benghazi, and all the money and removal of sanctions regarding Iran.

Seriously, executive privilege has been used quite a bit. Bill Clinton used it during the Monica Lewinsky impeachment issue quite a bit. The media was not quite sure what was going on there, either. Other presidents have used it, as well.

By defying the impeachment inquiry, Trump has essentially set off a constitutional power struggle between the legislative and the executive branches.

After 2010, Obama’s entire legacy is based on executive privilege and executive actions. Oh, right, 2009-2016 doesn’t exist. My bad.

Well, you can cheer up at least on the Presidential front. The hardcore progressives are BERNIE OR BUST. The only other person running that tickles their fancy is Tulsi. They hate Warren and Harris and Beto to them is a joke.

Now certainly not all but given the numbers that Trump will get from Hispanics and Blacks this time around with the Progressives who will NOT VOTE or vote for Trump again, it’s pretty clear to them and ELWOOD why they want to impeach Trump.

They have no chance in the general election and NOW even Hillary Clinton is thinking about getting back in the 2020 race. I mean a woman who is known to have done criminal activity. I mean the FBI found Secret and TOP secret information on her servers…..It’s NOT a fabrication by the right. She did this!!! and they left is desperately trying to pin anything on Trump to impeach him for using the wrong toilet paper in the White House.

Especially since he is trying to get us the hell out of the middle east…I think it’s pretty evident that 4 more years of Trump will benefit the right and hurt the left drastically. Let me rephrase that it will help the general American who is conservative. 4 more years of Trump will be unbearable for those clowns who joined the house and senate to become rich, which is why even they hate trump.

Was this former Obama Administration official asleep from 2009 – 2017?

How many times did President Obama use executive privilege? (Hint: 2). Fast and Furious and SEC/Bernie Madoff

TEACH claims: Then there was the IRS targeting scandal, Hillary Clinton’s server issue, Benghazi, and all the money and removal of sanctions regarding Iran.

The Secretary of State testified for 11 hours over Benghazi.

Trump has claimed executive privilege over the Mueller Report, citizenship questions on the 2020 Census, and now not allowing ANY documents or testimony regarding the impeachment inquiry.

Time is irrelevant. Whether she lied for 11 or 11,000, it’s still all lies.

What the bunny suit doesn’t want to address is the fact the Choom Gang ignored or flat out stonewalled handing over documents.

Commenter typed: Whether she lied for 11 or 11,000, it’s still all lies.

He/she changed the subject. The false complaint by TEACH was that President Obama invoked executive privilege over Benghazi. HRC haters call every statement from her a lie. Certainly, the GOP didn’t disprove even one statement.

Commenter typed: “…doesn’t want to address is the fact the Choom Gang (sic) ignored…”

Untrue. President Obama invoked executive privilege over Fast and Furious and the courts disagreed.

The United States Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court has ruled that the FBI previously violated Americans’ privacy rights by conducting unreasonable searches. The FISA Court opinion disclosed Tuesday revealed that the FBI violated constitutional rights and federal law through their warrant-less internet surveillance program.

What is mindblowing is the FBI conducted illegal searches on 10’s of thousands of Americans.

If you remember when Bush signed this into law after 911 the progressive left was beside themselves.

Now they are defending these actions….BECAUSE ORANGE MAN BAD.

Oh by the way Trump Tweeted out a hat tip to OANN news for their fair coverage of him and the Right.

I actually get a lot of my news from OANN, I pay 5 bucks a month to get Glenn Beck on Dish Satellite since we use Dish to travel around the country.

I have stopped watching Fox altogether. It is completely overrun by leftists now with the exception of a few prime time their website is leftist, their daytime programs are leftist and they are owned by a man who hates RIGHTIES.

Have a fear. We need to start supporting something else because Fox under Shep Smith and Bret Baier’s guidance is now a fuking cess pool of anti-trump hate mongering.

  7. Doom and Gloom says:

2001 – directed Attorney General to not release documents related to an investigation of
FBI corruption Bush use of Executive Privledge.

Even back in 2001 the FBI was a bunch of Corrupt bitches. Remember this is the organization everyone was terrified of when J. Edgar Hoover ran the thing. Nothing much has changed and when Trump was nominated they kicked in the overdrive and went to work trying to destroy him.

the forgot their were 63 million voters they couldnt get to in time.

  8. Liljeffyatemypuppy says:

    There is no constitutional crisis.
It’s working just as it should.
There are 3 co-equal branches of our government with checks and balances in place if any one branch thinks it’s more equal than the others.
