This highlights just how un-serious Democrats are on border protection
Details of a likely bipartisan border-security deal in Congress are being worked out after the White House indicated it will accept an agreement giving President Trump just a fraction of the money he’s demanded for his proposed U.S.-Mexico border wall.
Congressional negotiators said the money allocated to the border wall will be far below Trump’s requested figure of $5.7 billion, a demand that led to a showdown with congressional Democrats and the longest-ever federal government shutdown. The figure is likely to be somewhere around $1.6 billion.
The deal would not only partially fund the wall, it would also prevent another government shutdown next weekend. Trump threatened to go with the shutdown again, though congressional Republicans are unlikely to have the stamina for another shutdown for which they have been held responsible.
One White House aide indicated that Trump will accept whatever agreement comes out of the negotiations as he understands there isn’t enough willpower among Republicans to fight for the full border-wall funding.
On one hand, it’s a pittance of what was requested. On the other, Trump and Republicans forced Democrats to allocate some money for a border barrier, when they had been saying that the number would be zero, despite their talking points of “open the government and we’ll negotiate.” Trump is getting something. And then he can force more later. Plus, he has other options, such as invoking 10 United States Code § 284, which authorizes the U.S. military to build barriers at the southern border.
But even with a breakthrough in negotiations, Democrats are insisting that the money given to the border security shouldn’t be just for the physical barrier.
“Throughout the talks, Democrats have insisted that a border security compromise not be overly reliant on physical barriers,†Evan Hollander, a spokesman for Democrats who control the House Appropriations Committee, told the Associated Press. “We will not agree to $2 billion in funding for barriers.â€
Democrats are demanding that measures that mostly do not stop illegals be implemented, like using more drones, so we can watch them cross illegally.
If only a border wall was “getting serious” about security…

The Act lowers tax rates but keeps the seven income tax brackets.
In 2018, only 4.8 percent of households pay more.
Trump’s tax plan doubles the standard deduction. A single filer’s deduction increases from $6,350 to $12,000. The deduction for married and joint filers increases from $12,700 to $24,000.
It keeps deductions for charitable contributions, retirement savings, and student loan interest.
Taxpayers can deduct up to $10,000 in state and local taxes.
The Act expanded the deduction for medical expenses for 2017 and 2018. It allows taxpayers to deduct medical expenses that are 7.5 percent or more of income.
The Act doubles the estate tax exemption to $11.2 million for singles and $22.4 million for couples.
The exemption reverts to pre-Act levels in 2026.
The Act increases the Child Tax Credit from $1,000 to $2,000.
It allows parents to use 529 savings plans for tuition at private and religious K-12 schools. They can also use the funds for expenses for home-schooled students.
It allows a $500 credit for each non-child dependent. The credit helps families caring for elderly parents.
The Act repeals the Obamacare tax on those without health insurance in 2019.
The plan keeps the Alternative Minimum Tax. It increases the exemption from $54,300 to $70,300 for singles and from $84,500 to $109,400 for joint.
People get to keep more of their own money. No wonder libs hate it.

trump made an ill-advised campaign promise to make Mexico build a yuuuuuge Wall separating Mexico from the US, made of concrete, and “no one can built a wall like I can, believe me”. “And who’s gonna pay for my beautiful Wall???” “Mexico!!”
A Wall is not border security. A Wall will not make us safer. A Wall will not stop terrorists or drugs. Not building a Wall is not the same as “open borders”. It was a campaign promise, and a dumb one.
If trump doesn’t sign the funding bill by next Friday we have another unnecessary shutdown.
I don’t hear a lot of Americans complaining.
