Zakaria: Hey, Those Two Tsarnaev Boys Mean We Need Better Integration Of Muslims

More importantly, the media narrative that Boston was just some minor event with no links to any wider Muslim extremist movement continues, as witnessed in Fareed Zakaria’s op-ed

As we learn more about the brothers Tsarnaev, we are inclined to ask larger questions about their apparent descent into terror. What does it tell us about radical Islam, Russian immigrants, Muslim communities and the breakdown of assimilation? The most accurate answer might turn out to be: not much. Larger phenomena might be at work — but these two young men might not reflect any rise or intensification of trends. It seems they are just two alienated youths who turned toward hate and then, allegedly, to murder.

That was the point the brothers’ uncle Ruslan Tsarni made when he called his nephews “losers.” He was arguing against the notion that the boys represented a larger community. He and his family, after all, were part of the same Chechen migration to the United States and are well-adjusted, law-abiding and thoroughly American.

Of course, there’s the point where the CIA wanted the older brother on a watch list, and Russia was pushing the FBI hard to watch Tamerlan, something they rarely do. There’s lots and lots of material that they continued to radicalize. They were more than just “alienated youths”. Those folks don’t generally fly halfway across the world to an area known to support and train Islamic jihadis. But the point is to attempt to divest this attack from the wider world of Islamic terrorism.

Since 9/11, foreign-inspired terrorism has claimed about two dozen lives in the United States. (Meanwhile, more than 100,000 have been killed in gun homicides and more than 400,000 in motor-vehicle accidents.) One crucial reason the number of terrorism deaths is so low is that America does not have large pools of alienated immigrants. Polls repeatedly have shown that Muslim immigrants to the United States embrace core American values. The American assimilation machine continues to function well.

So, the Leftist cries of “Islamaphobia!!!!!!!” are pretty much a bunch of mule fritters. And, let’s be clear: the government has done a decent job in uncovering plots here in the US. Also, much like in Europe, the Islamists are careful and intent on forcing their hardcore Islam views peacefully. Europe has seen this occur for a much longer period of time, where Sharia has integrated itself into the laws of many countries, or the hardcore Muslims have been allowed to have their own separate legal system from the rest of the nation. That’s what the Islamists push here, taking advantage of the Left’s “multiculturalism” and “diversity” craziness, along with the Left’s willfull blind eye to the actions, which leads Leftists to freak out any time the Islamists are attacked.

Rather than ostracize or embarrass Muslims in the wake of Boston, the smarter move would be even greater outreach — so that the next time someone began to act strangely, community leaders would pick up the phone and call their friends in the police.

That sounds exactly like the argument to legalize the illegal aliens. A better idea would be to attempt to Westernize those who are in danger of going down the road to hardcore Islam, getting them away from that life. The point Zakaria is attempting with this is to get America to change, not to get the Muslims to change. As one person at the WP comments

For a week, Fareed thought about this vicious attack by Jihadis that killed and maimed almost 200 Americans.

You know what he came up with?

Americans aren’t welcoming enough to potential terrorists that we allow to move here.

True: this seems to be another Blame America first article, along with saying that there is no wider meaning with any links to radical Islam. You can bet Fareed would be blaming the whole if these guys had been NRA members, TEA Partiers, or Romney voters.

I don’t know how much more could have been done to assimilate the Tsarnaevs. They came here as minors, and grew up about as well as any immigrants could have in the United States. They learned the language, they participated in fairly normal American activities, participated in American organized sports, and in the American educational system. The elder Mr Tsarnaev married a pretty American woman, and the younger one was in college — though he was apparently flunking a lot of courses — and had plenty of American friends. If they weren’t assimilated, it was because they chose not to be.

This is an example of the old saying that you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink.

  2. It probably didn’t help that they constantly were treated to a litany of hating and bashing America from liberals while growing up.

Don’t forget all of the free welfare too.

    the breakdown of assimilation?

Sorry, but isn’t that the fault of the immigrants? or the ICE personnel in determining if the potential immigrants will be a good fit here? Oh, we don’t do that any more? Well, then we’ve screwed ourselves.

and more than 400,000 in motor-vehicle accidents.)

and it is high time we ban cars and roadways!!!

One crucial reason the number of terrorism deaths is so low is that America does not have large pools of alienated immigrants.

So, we now all see ourslelves as plain old Americans. Not hyphenated-americans? We’ve moved past holding on to old cultures and ignoring the distinctive American culture? We’ve left aside the self-segregation in to cultural city centers like “china town” or “the burro”, or “little havanah”?

Immigrants now come here and learn english right away, follow all the rules and blend in as best they can in order to succeed in the American dream?

Damn, we’re good. Must be something wrong in boston then if it didn’t work there.

the next time someone began to act strangely, community leaders would pick up the phone and call their friends in the police.

Yeah, about that… it’s the muslim community leaders that are the leaders of the radicalization of the Islamic cult. Other “leaders” have been scared SH*TLESS to say anything about “scary muslims” out of a fear of being put in jail.

Besides, I thought Islam meant peace yo?

A central question asked this past week about the brothers Tsarnaev was “What motivated them to make and set off their bombs in Boston?” The motivation can be found in the writings of Muhammad in the Koran and in the writing by his biographer, available to English readers via the translation of the text A Life of Muhammad, by A. Guillaume. The prophet generated attacks on non-Muslims, non-believers of his religion, Islam, that he claimed in the Koran to have been “sent down” by his god Allah via the angel Gabriel. Guillaume’s translation of the official biography gives examples of Muhammad’s modus operandi which is outlined in the Koan, Sura 9 verse 29:” Make war on unbelievers…until they pay tribute out of hand (to Muslims)…and they are humbled (by forcing them to submit to Allah).” It is clear and simple.

The brothers Tsarnaev represent all Muslim Radicals who follow Muhammad’s lead in destroying non-Muslims. Muhammad used a sword to behead enemies and non-Muslims of his day. Read and compare his personal massacre of over 600 Quraysh (pp. 463f.), the beheading of “Uqba (p. 308), and the torture and beheading of Kinana (pp. 510-515), cited by his biographer. As for the brothers Tsarnaev there was no thought of “better integration of Muslims” into our American society.
