Blind passengers are being ordered off buses or refused taxi rides because Muslim drivers or passengers object to their ‘unclean’ guide dogs.
One pensioner, a cancer sufferer, told how had twice been confronted by drivers and asked to get off the bus because of his guide dog, and had also faced hostility at a hospital and in a supermarket over the animal.
The problem to carry guide dogs on religious grounds has become so widespread that the matter was raised in the House of Lords last week, prompting transport minister Norman Baker to warn that a religious objection was not a reason to eject a passenger with a well-behaved guide dog.
Some of the more tolerant Muslims (read: those on the fringes, because they tend not to follow all the unhinged ravings of a murderous pedophile) are telling the mainstream Muslims to take a chill pill
The tension stems from a strand of Islamic teaching which warns against contact with dogs because the animal’s saliva was considered to be impure, the Muslim Council of Britain said.
It urged Muslims to show tolerance and common sense over the issue.
‘We need to be flexible on this,’ a spokesman said. ‘Muslim drivers should have no hesitation in allowing guide dogs into their bus or car.
‘If a dog does lick you, it’s not the end of the world. Just go home and wash yourself.’
Or find a different job.

Gee Teach we do not seem to be hearing any reports of things like that here in New York City, where we do have a high proportion of drivers that are muslim. muslims are about 3% of the population of the UK. Somehow I just don’t see them taking over quite yet. But if you want or need something to fear how about this fact: here in the USA 26% of all heads of household who are muslim earn more than 100K per year. Smelly dogs do not belong on buses, regardless of who owns them. A blind person can wash a dog too. If a (clean) dog licks a person on a public bus, big deal. I’ve been on public transportation and seen adults try to lick total strangers. It’s called life in the big city.
Speaking of blind people, how about that crybaby Beck? He gives a (yet another) tearful speech, this time claiming that he may be going blind. Meanwhile, a few years ago he made a joke on his show with a punchline involving braille on a coffeepot. Talk about karma biting one in the ass. What a loser.
I agree, smelly dogs do not belong on public transportation. But, we aren’t talking about smelly dogs, we are talking about service dogs, which are to be allowed by law, unless they are disruptive. Are you saying we should put the extremist religious feelings of these Muslims over the ability of handicapped people to get around? Which is the law, BTW.
I haven’t seen Beck in over two weeks. I only see his show at most once a week. Had training seminars last week, vacation at the parents casa this week.

So you’ve never encountered a smelly service dog? No, I’m not saying we should put “the extremist religious feelings of these Muslims over the ability of these handicapped people to get around”. Never said anything of the sort. I tend to side more with the blind folks than the people who are offended by service dogs.
