Today’s Global Warming Hypocrisy

I hate to do a second global warming post in one day, but, hey, it's politics. And today's confirmed hypocrisy involves, you guessed it! The Goracle (h/t Blogs For Bush)

NEW ORLEANS (AP) – A top hurricane forecaster called Al Gore "a gross alarmist" Friday for making an Oscar-winning documentary about global warming.

"He's one of these guys that preaches the end of the world type of things. I think he's doing a great disservice and he doesn't know what he's talking about," Dr. William Gray said in an interview with The Associated Press at the National Hurricane Conference in New Orleans, where he delivered the closing speech.

A spokeswoman said Gore was on a flight from Washington, D.C., to Nashville Friday; he did not immediately respond to Gray's comments.

Google says it is 666 miles (serendipidous) from Washington D.C. to Nashville, Tn., with a travel time of 10 hours and 30 minutes. Auto Spies states that the Goracle recently dumped his Lexus for a Mercury Mariner Hybrid. It is rated at 33 hwy/29 city. Certainly 20-21 gallons of gas would be better then all that jet fuel, right? Even though he did buy an evil SUV.

And, did Gore fly commercial or private? Interesting question.

If you want an interesting breakdown on the Earth's atmosphere and greenhouse gasses without all the scientific detail, check out this Car and Driver article.

Depending on which report one reads, a commercial airplane flying from NY to Denver puts out as much CO2 as an SUV does in a month, or in a year. So, just for arguments sake, I'll use the month version. Let's say a flight from DC to Nashville puts out the amount of CO2 an SUV does in one week. But, the Goracle has a hybrid, so we'll say, oh, 11 days worth. Did he pay for his carbon offsets? And, even so, this just goes to show he won't live the life.

God is working some more of his humor on Algor-abge this weedend all across the country. Days that are usually spent fishing or other fun time with the family in other activities are spent this weekend shoveling snow and keep the home fires (real fires) going. Sunrise services are going to be a real bear in the morning.
