Trackback Friday Featuring the Surrender Monkey: Nancy In The Mideast

Happy Friday to all! It's that time of the week again! Do you have an interesting post you want to share with everyone? The official Surrender Monkey of the Democratic Party says to do what the Lefties don’t, since they all have the same talking points: link it!

Here we have Nancy Pelosi modeling the latest in Defeatocratic fashion. I wonder what happened to her being the "most powerful woman in America?" Heck, she cannot stand up to a tinpot dictator in Syria and say "I'm not wearing that crap which knocks women down into second class citizen status."

Now, we heard that Pelosi delivered the wrong message to Syria. At least that is what Israel says

Jerusalem ( – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi delivered the wrong message to Syrian President Bashar Assad from Israel, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's office said on Wednesday evening.

Pelosi, who is heading a bi-partisan fact-finding tour of the Middle East, met with Assad on Wednesday, a move that angered the Bush administration. Earlier in the week, Pelosi — the most senior U.S. official to visit Syria in years — visited Israel and met with Olmert.

At a press conference following the meeting between Pelosi and Assad in Damascus, Pelosi indicated that she had delivered a message that Israel was ready to engage in peace talks.

But, the problem was, that was wrong

Olmert emphasized that although Israel is interested in peace with Syria, "that country continues to be part of the axis of evil and a force that encourages terror in the entire Middle East," the clarification statement said.

"In order to conduct serious and genuine peace negotiations, Syria must cease its support of terror, cease its sponsoring of the Hamas and Islamic Jihad organizations, refrain from providing weapons to Hizballah and bringing about the destabilizing of Lebanon, cease its support of terror in Iraq, and relinquish the strategic ties it is building with the extremist regime in Iran," it said.

I guess Pelosi was worried about annoying the Muslim dictator and terrorist support. Anyhow, her message from progressives world wide stayed on message: appeasement.

Many have said that Pelosi going to Syria was a bad idea. No, no! It was a great idea. It shows exactly how progressives deal with national security and terrorist regimes, as well as how they seek to undermine the legitimate authority of the Executive Office, and not just because they are "blinded by hate for Bush." What Pelosi did is just what progressives do. Remember John Kerry meeting, illegally, with members of the North Vietnamese government in Paris on multiple occasions?

When liberals say "give peace a chance," what they mean do whatever it takes to avoid conflict, even if it means giving in to a Hitler, a Pol Pot, a North Korea, Communist China, North Vietnam, or a terrorist supporting nation. They really should ask Chamberlain how it worked out. While there are several great quotes by Neville, there are two I would like to highlight, as they fit the modern democratic party perfectly. The first is from 9/30/1938 after a conference with Der Furher

"We, the German Führer and Chancellor, and the British Prime Minister, have had a further meeting today and are agreed in recognizing that the question of Anglo-German relations is of the first importance for two countries and for Europe.

"We regard the agreement signed last night and the Anglo-German Naval Agreement as symbolic of the desire of our two peoples never to go to war with one another again.

"We are resolved that the method of consultation shall be the method adopted to deal with any other questions that may concern our two countries, and we are determined to continue our efforts to remove possible sources of difference, and thus to contribute to assure the peace of Europe."

"My good friends this is the second time in our history that there has come back from Germany to Downing Street peace with honor. I believe it is peace in our time."

Works well when one appeases meglomaniac dictators bent on domination and war, eh?

We should seek by all means in our power to avoid war, by analyzing possible causes, by trying to remove them, by discussion in a spirit of collaboration and good will. I cannot believe that such a program would be rejected by the people of this country, even if it does mean the establishment of personal contact with the dictators.

Before someone says "Reagan worked with Saddam and other dictators," let's be crystal clear: we used them, whether it be against Iran or against Soviet stooges. We did not use them as true international partners.

Meanwhile, The Opinion Journal tells us about "Prime Minister Pelosi and Secretary of State Lantos" while Rich Lowry at Townhall highlights the Capitulation Caucus.

Oh, and let's not forget all the terrorist leaders who support Pelosi's visit.

More: Lord protect us from the fashion sense of Robin Givhan at the Washington Post.

Over the past week, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi toured the Middle East with a congressional entourage and a generous collection of scarves. The scarves provided her with an additional bit of sartorial modesty when the situation required it and she was also able to use them to cover her head when protocol dictated — such as when she visited the tomb of John the Baptist inside a mosque in Damascus and tied one around her head in the manner of a Hitchcock heroine.

And Robert F. Turner at The Opinion Journal suggests that Pelosi has committed a felony by engaging in diplomacy with Syria without the consent of the US Government.
