John Kerry: Non-binding, Voluntary Paris Climate Agreement Obama’s Most Important 2015 Accomplishment

I did not want to make the headline really long, so I left out “with no force of law and no legally binding requirements”

(CNS News) Secretary of State John Kerry says the climate change deal he helped broker in Paris was the Obama administration’s most “important” accomplishment in 2015.

“As one year gives way to the next, international leaders have an opportunity to build on several major achievements of 2015,” Kerry wrote in an oped published Tuesday in the Boston Globe in which he also listed the nuclear deal with Iran, signing the Trans-Pacific Partnership, and normalization of diplomatic relations with Cuba.

“Of these, none is more important than the recent global agreement in Paris to prevent the most harmful impacts of climate change.” Kerry wrote.

It’s such an awesomely huge achievement that Mr. Obama will not even submit it to the United State Congress for debate, discussion, and a vote. Liberals will, of course, say that the GOP would kill the agreement. And, their right (hopefully. You never know with the GOP, but, I do think they could muster 34 votes against it). But, if they did kill it, it would give Obama and the other members of the Cult of Climastrology a chance to lambaste Republican “deniers”. Yet, he won’t even give it a whirl. Says quite a bit how worthless this agreement actually is.

President Barack Obama and federal officials agreed to give $3 billion in funding to the U.N.’s Green Climate Fund to help developing nations – including China and India, which produce more greenhouse gases than industrialized nations – deal with the effects of climate change.

Let’s not forget that the entire thing almost jumped the tracks over the initial idea to make contributions legally binding, with John Kerry threatening to walk out. Obama/Kerry demanded they not be legally binding. And notice whose money they plan to give away. That’s right, not their own.

None of the pledges actually get the world to the apocalyptic 2C, or even 1.5C. Numbers which the world aren’t even close to now, being only about .8C above temperatures at the end of the Little Ice Age 166 years ago, and most likely wouldn’t get there in the first place, except in computer models.

There’s no process to verify anything. There’s no real process to properly vet the use of the Green Climate Fund. Sounds historic!

The US Congress is broken and no longer capable of honest debate as an irrational cult has commandeered the Republican Party. Things will get worse before they get better.

Would your Cult of Conservatism complain even more if there were legally binding components? Of course you would! It would be fascism!

Most nations, major religions, scientific organizations, scientists and major corporations understand the seriousness of global warming. The Earth is warming, changing the climate of the only Earth we humans occupy; warming because of greenhouse gases we humans are adding to the atmosphere.

Pure and simple, the Cult of Conservatism denies the facts because of their political ideology. They prefer to “debate” thermometers and hoaxes and emails, oh my! – rather than just admit that their greatest fear (after the “other”) is international cooperation.

The left really do hate democracy!

Every Republican in the United States Congress is there because he was elected by the voters. If the Republicans aren’t passing the stuff the left want, it is because the people who voted for them don’t want that stuff passed.

I have said this before: there is nothing which prohibits the Congress from taking the signed agreement, and treating it like a treaty — requiring a 2/3 majority for approval in the Senate — or a congressional/executive agreement, requiring a simple majority vote in both Houses of Congress.

Any individual member of the Congress may submit legislation, on any subject he wishes; any individual Member of Congress could take the agreement, add the required preambles to make it legislation, and submit it as a bill.

“the earth is warming…” Satellite data says no, it’s not. If it was warming, that doesn’t mean CO2 is the cause. On top of that, there’s absolutely no proof warming, no matter what the cause, would be dangerous to humans. Simply speculation. The climate data change deniers have a long way to go.

      jl,

“the earth is warming…” Satellite data says no, it’s not.

According to the computer modeling temperature estimated by RSS from the satellite data, the Earth has been warming at a rate of 0.49/decade during the past 5 years alone! The other satellite modeling system (run by “skeptics” Spencer and Christy) show 0.56C/decade warming the past 5 years. So what adjusted satellite modeling data are you referring to? You’re not relying on William are you? Or Monkton?

Or is your argument that 30 years of data is too long (+0.12C/decade), 5 years of data too short (+0.49C/decade) and 18 years, 9 months and 15 days (no warming!) is jussst right! LOL There is about 37 years of RSS data, showing warming of 0.122C/decade over that interval. NOAA shows 0.153C/decade over the same interval. UAH shows 0.140C/decade. The average of the 6 major datasets (NOAA, HadCrut, Berkeley, GISTEMP, RSS and UAH) is 0.150C/decade since 1979 (when the satellites came online). Cherrypicking William’s start year of 1998 (massive El Nino year) the mean for all 6 major datasets is +0.09C/decade. Still warming even with cheating on the start year. Curiously, only the RSS shows no warming over that interval. I wonder why Monkton and William choose that interval and only the RSS dataset to report??? That’s a rhetorical question.
