Democrat Senate Punts On Budget Yet Again

It’s not like passing a budget is a Constitutional duty and law or anything (via Hot Air)

(The Hill) Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) bowed to pressure from fellow Democrats on Tuesday and postponed a committee vote on a 2013 budget resolution, most likely until after the November elections.

Conrad on Wednesday will begin a committee markup of a resolution based on the Bowles-Simpson deficit recommendations, but told reporters there is no date scheduled on which the markup vote would occur.

“This is the wrong time to vote in committee; this is the wrong time to vote on the floor,” he said. “I don’t think we will be prepared to vote before the election.”

It’s been 1059 days since the Senate last did their Constitutional duty and passed a bill. And, as Keith Hennessey points out

It’s not a markup if you don’t vote.

The job of a Member of Congress is to vote on legislation, not to talk about legislation.  Talk is sometimes helpful but If Members of Congress are not voting they’re not doing their job.

Democrats are simply getting together for a pow-wow to make it look like they are Doing Something, when, in fact, they are accomplishing as much as a bunch of drunken college students having a bull session about how they are going to change the world. Then pass out.

Milbank: Secret Service And GSA Scandals Really The Fault Of…The American People

That’s right, it’s your fault. It’s not government gone wild, it’s not a government that feels entitled to pull these kinds of stunts, no, you sitting there who happened to glance at TMZ, you’re to blame, says the Washington Post’s Dana Milbank: Debauchery: An American specialty

Before we get to the dancing penises at the National Institutes of Health (WT note: you’ll have to read the end of Milbank’s op-ed to learn what this is about), let’s begin our discussion with the Secret Service agents’ dalliance with prostitutes in Cartagena, Colombia.

“We’re representing the people of the United States,” President Obama said Sunday when asked about the agents and military personnel who, after a night of heavy drinking, reportedly procured prostitutes at a strip club called the Pleyclub. “And when we travel to another country I expect us to observe the highest standards.”

But the president has it exactly backward. It is precisely when federal workers go abroad that they should hold themselves to the lowest standards. We are, after all, the land of Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Snooki. Debauchery is an American specialty. The president should be promoting the export of our culture.

I realize that some party poopers will not share my delight at the Secret Service becoming a double entendre. But at the very least, this scandal, like the General Services Administration’s spending spree in Las Vegas, should serve to refute claims that the federal workforce is out of touch with ordinary Americans. As it turns out, some federal workers reflect our culture all too well.

Maybe we should stop blaming the feds for being like the rest of us — it’s hardly surprising that bad actors and buffoons find their way into the public sector as well as the private — and think of other lessons to draw from the scandal, such as possible recruitment tools: Work for the government and get a complimentary upgrade to a hot-tub suite? Join the Secret Service and be a playuh at the Pleyclub? Surely the GSA, a sleepy backwater of the government responsible for property, would raise its profile if it changed its name to the Garish Soiree Administration or the Grandiose Shindig Agency.

On one hand, Milbank’s is right: we are at fault, at least when we are talking about the GSA scandal. The federal government feels empowered to spend and spend and spend, and know there will be no one to really stop them. They know it is Someone Else’s money, and, if they need more, they’ll just tax, borrow, or invent it. Government feels no need to be responsible with the taxpayer’s money, they feel entitled to spend it as they please, and they know there is no need to answer to The People. And it’s our fault, because half the country wants to put all this money and power in the hands of the government, and the other half can’t stop it no matter how much we try, because the Leftist half tends to be ensconced within the government, and even elected Republicans play the game in giving away money for votes.

We expect better from our government, but, rarely get it, and are often powerless to stop it. This growth happened over a hundred years ago, and it always seemed as if the government was simply helping us, was there for us, but has now grown into a monster that can’t be stopped. This is one of the reasons we need term limits on Congress, so that they stop worrying about government give aways to get re-elected, and there stops being a Political Aristocracy.

On the other hand, no, the Secret Service scandal is not our fault: I’m not going to directly blame Obama, but, interesting that this happens during a time of loose government ethics and standards where the Chief Executive parties, plays, and vacations hard.

Michelle Obama Tries Out Some Recycled Messianic Campaign Blather

A slip of the tongue, or a preview of what’s to come? Will Obama’s Greek Temple be upgraded to Mount Olympus?

(Politico) First lady Michelle Obama hit the campaign trail in Nashville on Tuesday and told a packed crowd in a downtown office building that the campaign has an “amazing story to tell.”

“This President has brought us out of the dark and into the light,” she said. “But we need each and every one of you as fired up as you’ve been.”

An amazing story, eh? Is it called the Neverending Campaign? The Unicorn Rider? The Chariot of Obama?

The first lady made roughly the same stump speech of recent weeks, chronicling the accomplishments of her husband’s first term, from the auto industry rescue to health care reform, ending the war in Iraq and the killing of Osama bin Laden. In a roughly 26-minute speech to a crowd of about 450, she also appealed to women voters, highlighting her husband’s signing of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.

That’s a great story. To use the talking points of liberals, he assassinated Osama without due process. Nice. He put GM in the hands of the unions. He followed Bush’s plan to end the Iraq War. Women get paid 18% less in the White House, are typically excluded from the festivities, and some consider the Obama WH a “hostile work environment.” People are livid over Obamacare.

Then there’s the chronic high unemployment, people abandoning the work force in record numbers, low consumer confidence, low real wages, low disposable income, high and continuing to rise gas prices, rising energy prices, rising consumer goods prices, rising food prices, a housing industry that’s still in the dumps, and America with low influence around the world. He started a war of choice in Libya, ignored the massacres in Syria, finally took notice of Egypt and helped get rid of Hosni Mubarak, leading to a potential Islamist government, blew off the Green Revolution in Iran, threw allies under the bus on missile defense, and looks to be throwing American defense under the bus to Russia if he wins re-election. Debt and deficits are at historic highs. Homelessness is up. Credit is hard to get. Health care costs are rising. NASA is no longer in the air and space business, but, in Muslim outreach. Great stories!

It’s really not that surprising that Michelle O. is using messianic language, as she and Barack do think they are our betters, and we should bow down in prayer that they are here to rescue us from…..well, really, we need rescue from them and the devilish damage they’ve done to America in 3 short years.

Bev Perdue To Reporters Regarding Dem Sexual Harassment Scandal: “Get Over It”

I’ve been somewhat remiss in covering the North Carolina Democrat sexual harassment issue, but, hey, can’t ignore the idiocy from our esteemed Governor Bev Perdue (who also “joked” about doing away with the 2012 elections)

(Daily Caller) During the heated exchange with reporters, Perdue claimed her constituents don’t care about sexual harassment cases like this one.

“My comment continues to be: This is an internal personnel matter at the party and the party is working on it, and so I would just ask everybody else there to focus on what really matters to North Carolinians —and that’s jobs for people and good schools for their children,” Perdue said. “That’s the fundamental issue before us as we enter an election cycle, and I cannot get into personnel matters.”

Perdue then refused to say whether she would support an investigation, and said she would not say when she first learned about the sexual harassment allegations or anything about the scandal.

Pushed again for answers, Perdue then told one reporter: “Get over it.”

I caught this on WTVD here in Raleigh, and it is even worse on video. She’s very petulant, and it seems rather disturbing for her to simply blow off charges of sexual misconduct. But, you have to love how she strays into what I call Stage 6, whining about the topic, and why aren’t we discussing “x”? Might be a really bad idea to discuss how bad your record is in the economy, Bev.

Follow the link to the DC, which has the NC GOP response and Bev beatdown.

Somewhat related, Dr. Melissa Clouthier finds Wisconsin Dems denigrating a Republic woman. Like sexual harassment and poor transparency, it’s OK with Dems when they themselves do it.

DWS Whines About Ted Nugent

Ted Nugent said something crazy (shocking!), and Debbie Downer had this to say in response

(CNN) Democratic National Committee Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz criticized Romney and the Republican Party for not pushing back on Nugent’s comments, which she said were “despicable, deplorable and completely beyond the pale.” She also sent out an email to supporters on Tuesday to solicit donations off the comments.

“Romney’s surrogates should know better than to rally the troops with outrageous rhetoric that is unacceptable in our political debate,” the Florida representative said in a statement. “Mitt Romney must condemn Nugent’s violent and hateful rhetoric immediately, as it has no place in our political discourse or this campaign.”

Make a copy of that 2nd paragraph for use every time a Democrat says something vile, which should surely be by the end of the day.

More: The Moderate (snicker) Voice calls it (Nuget’s commentary “reprehensible polemics” and that good old standby “hate.” Remember to call Joe Gandlemann out when a Dem goes bat guano crazy.

First Solar Lays Off 2,000 In Germany

First Solar, a recipient of oodles of American taxpayer money, which is having lots of problems here in the US, and is being sued for deceiving the public, among others, is also having problems overseas

(LA Times) First Solar Inc. is laying off 2,000 workers and closing its plant in Frankfurt, Germany, in response to waning demand for solar panels and increased competition from China.

America’s largest maker of solar panels said the layoffs amount to 30 percent of its global workforce. Some cuts come from shutting down the Frankfurt (Oder) plant, where it doubled the number of employees to more than 1,200 just last year. The company will also shutter some production in Malaysia. Additional jobs will be cut in both Europe and the U.S.

Solar manufacturers have been hurt by the global recession, an influx of Chinese panels and declining subsidy programs in Europe. Germany, the world’s largest market for solar power, announced in February that it would cut solar subsidies by 30 percent.

They’ve also been hurt by their products being priced beyond what most individuals and private companies will pay, especially when the investment tends to me a money loser. But, hey, it’s obvious that the business model, taking taxpayer money and squandering it on worthless products “that are cheaper and less efficient than their competitors” but are still more expensive than old school energy products in an attempt to stop ‘climate change’ can’t possibly be the problem.

Obama To Offer New “Oil Manipulation” Plan

He also recommends you check your tire pressure to reduce your gas usage

(USA Today) President Obama, facing political problems over high gas prices, will announce a plan today “to increase oversight and crack down on manipulation in oil markets,” the White House announced.

“At a time when American consumers are feeling pain at the pump, it is critically important to ensure that illegal manipulation, fraud and market rigging are not contributing to gas price increases,” said the announcement.

Obama, along with Attorney General Eric Holder, is scheduled to discuss the plan at 11:10 a.m.

See? It’s someone else’s fault, can’t possibly have anything to do with Obama’s policies, which have effectively reduced drilling on federal property and off America’s shores. Most investigations showed very little manipulation in prices, though there are always a few bad players in every economic sector. Good thing no one is trying to manipulate the prices in alternative energy, such as giving massive amounts of capital to solar companies.

The $52 million request to Congress is designed to strengthen federal supervision of oil markets, and increase penalties for manipulation of those markets.

Wait, wait, wait: Obama plans to blow $52 million more taxpayer dollars to make it appear as if he is Doing Something to prop up his election campaign? He must know that the Republican controlled House will say “hell, no”, which will give Obama some talking points to deflect attention away from his malfeasance.

“How many scapegoats must we go through before the President agrees to unlock America’s supply of energy resources?,” (John Boehner spokesman Brendan) Buck said. “Americans are looking for solutions, but it’s pretty clear the President is just looking for political cover.”

You can bet if a Republican was president, Democrats would blame that person, much like the solely blamed Bush when gas prices spiked.

What this would also do, if passed, would be to increase the role of the Central Government in the market and the oil company business, which sounds eerily like….socialism.

Reuters Finally Notices That Zimmerman “Showed Signs Of Injury”

After George Zimmerman has already been convicted in the court of public agitation, Reuters finally decides to add some factual content

Neighbors of George Zimmerman say he had bandages on his nose and head the day after he shot dead Trayvon Martin, supporting statements by the neighborhood watch volunteer that he was beaten in a confrontation with the black Florida teenager.

The extent of Zimmerman’s injuries could be crucial to his legal defense under Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” self-defense law, which allows the use of deadly force when someone has the reasonable belief he could face death or great bodily harm.

Police said Zimmerman, who has been charged with second-degree murder in the racially charged case, was bleeding from the nose and the back of his head and was treated by medics before being taken to Sanford police station after the February 26 shooting.

That’s strange: the grainy video made everyone say “no, he was fine” as he was detained.

Jorge Rodriguez, Zimmerman’s next-door neighbor, told Reuters that when he saw Zimmerman the day after the incident, “he had two big, butterfly bandages on the back of his head, and another big bandage…on the bridge of his nose.” He was talking to a police detective in his driveway.

Rodriguez’s wife Audria also said she saw the bandages and a third neighbor, who spoke only on condition of anonymity, agreed with the Rodriguez couple’s account. “I saw two bandages on the back of his head, and his nose was all swollen up,” said the witness, who had watched from a nearby second-floor window.

This doesn’t determine guilt or innocence: it could be that Zimmerman attacked Martin first. But, it does lend credence to Zimmerman’s version of what happened.

The neighbors said they spoke to Sanford police and the FBI in their investigations but did not recall speaking to the office of special prosecutor Angela Corey, who charged Zimmerman with second-degree murder.

It’s almost like Corey charged Zimmerman with 2nd degree murder without the facts in a politically charged manner. I hope she and the authorities are ready for riots when he is found “not guilty” from this prosecutorial over-reach.

And, it makes me wonder: if the media is so lax about releasing details like this, what else have they not bothered to say?

Of course, Reuters had to use a picture with the story that attempts to make Zimmerman look crazy, and a headline that, while factually correct, is provocative.

Oops: 82% Favor Voter Identification

So much for that narrative

(Rasmussen) Eighty-two percent (82%) believe all voters should be required to prove their identity before being allowed to vote. Only 14% oppose such a requirement.

Just 21% think laws requiring photo identification at the polls discriminate against some voters. Seventy-three percent (73%) disagree and feel that such laws do not discriminate.

So, the vast majority favor voter ID, and do not find it discriminatory. Humph.

Most voters across partisan lines express confidence in election results, but Democrats are more confident than the others. A plurality (49%) of voters in President Obama’s party consider voter fraud a serious problem in America today, but that compares to 84% of Republicans and 58% of voters not affiliated with either of the major parties.

Of course Democrats don’t think voter fraud is a big deal: it is one of the core ways they use to win elections. Of course, when elections do not go their way, they scream and gnash their teeth, saying “we need to Do Something”, but, when people try to do something, they always say “no.”

Most of this is behind the paywall, thanks to Ann Althouse for paying!

Now, off to the residential gym, where I have to show an ID….well, I have to use my scan card, which required an ID to get.
