Restaurant Owners Head To Washington To Plead For Obamacare Sanity

They can ask, but they won’t get it

(The Hill) Franchise restaurant owners have come to Washington seeking a change to ObamaCare that they say could prevent them from having to cut their employees’ hours.

The healthcare law requires large employers to provide insurance to employees who work at least 30 hours per week.

Franchise owners say the employer mandate threatens to erase their narrow profit margins and are telling lawmakers they need to overhaul the law before it’s too late.

“Employees won’t have the hours they need, and they won’t get employer-sponsored healthcare, either,” said Steve Caldeira, president and CEO of the International Franchise Association (IFA).

“[Franchisees] are dealing with high commodity costs, high energy prices, higher taxes from the ‘fiscal-cliff’ deal, and now they are trying to work through ObamaCare,” he said.

What they’re asking for is that the regulations be changed so that only people who work 40 hours or more be considered full time employees. The even have a website, 40hoursisfulltime.com, to push for the changes. Of course, it was the Department of Health and Human Services that deemed 30 hours to be full time amongst their 20,000+ pages of regulations. And pro-Obamacare lawmakers will not vote to increase the full-time hours, because they want people dumped from their company insurance plans and moved to government backed plans.

Nor do Obamacare backers care that workers hours are being cut, which means their earnings are lower: it’s all about putting the government in charge of as many people’s healthcare as possible and moving towards a single payer system.

In Wake Of Navy Shooting, Usual Suspects Come Out For Doing Something

By Doing Something, they mean “passing restrictive gun laws that won’t actually Do Something, and won’t stop mass shootings because criminals will Find A Way, and most of these shootings are by people who would never have passed a background check in the first place, or might possibly have passed all sorts of background checks which not only provided a big security clearance but also a concealed carry permit”

(Politico) Obama again hinted at his view that Congress must act to to help prevent future massacres, but offered no specifics and stopped short of promising a new White House campaign on that front.

“We are confronting yet another mass shooting — and today, it happened on a military installation in our nation’s capital,” the president said, as he pressed forward with a speech on the five-year anniversary of the economic crisis. “Obviously, we’re going to be investigating thoroughly what happened, as we do so many of these shootings, sadly, that have happened, and do everything that we can to try to prevent them.”

Again, the shooting happened in a gun free zone. Dan Gross of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence wants the White House to push hard again for more restrictive gun control (which doesn’t work particularly well in Mr. Obama’s hometown of Chicago). We can be sure that Michael Bloomberg’s deep pocketed Mayors For Taking Guns Away From Legal Citizens Or At Least Making It Very Difficult For Law Abiding Citizens to Defend Themselves From Criminals will be out with an ad campaign.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) began a written statement Monday evening on the attack by mourning the dead and extending her “thoughts and prayers,” but she did not shy away from painting the Navy Yard shooting as more evidence of the need for gun legislation.

“This is one more event to add to the litany of massacres that occur when a deranged person or grievance killer is able to obtain multiple weapons—including a military-style assault rifle—and kill many people in a short amount of time,” Feinstein said.

If the person has so many issues, might they not find a way to commit mass murder regardless? How many people die due to alcohol every year? But, we do not ban, say, anything with a proof over 40%. We do not ban motor vehicles, despite all the deaths. Heck, Liberals want to hand driver’s licenses over to illegal aliens.

Expect all sorts of emotional opinion pieces and talking points (Eugene Robinson didn’t wait long) in the coming days with calls for Do Something that strangely seem to do nothing to stop criminals.

“Climate Policy Leading To Higher Prices Is Right Even If Science Is Mule Fritters”

OK, I’m paraphrasing a bit

(Telegraph) Regardless of whether or not scientists are wrong on global warming, the European Union is pursuing the correct energy policies even if they lead to higher prices, Europe’s climate commissioner has said.

In an interview with the Telegraph, Europe’s most senior climate change official (Connie Hedegaard) argued that the current policies are the correct ones because a growing world population will put pressure on energy supplies regardless of the rate of global warming.

“I personally have a very pragmatic view.

“Say that 30 years from now, science came back and said, ‘wow, we were mistaken then now we have some new information so we think it is something else’. In a world with nine billion people, even 10 billion at the middle of this century, where literally billions of global citizens will still have to get out of poverty and enter the consuming middle classes, don’t you think that anyway it makes a lot of sense to get more energy and resource efficient,” she said.

Funny how all these policies tend to hurt way more than help, and, Connie is simply highlighting the notion that “climate change” is just a convenient excuse for implementing far left Progressive policies.

Bummer: IPCC Report Claims Warming Is Half Of What They Previously Said

Well, it’s obviously because you used hair spray, putting out greenhouse gases and causing all the man-induced warmth to make it cooler

(UK Daily Mail) A leaked copy of the world’s most authoritative climate study reveals scientific forecasts of imminent doom were drastically wrong.

The Mail on Sunday has obtained the final draft of a report to be published later this month by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the ultimate watchdog whose massive, six-yearly ‘assessments’ are accepted by environmentalists, politicians and experts as the gospel of climate science.

Yet the leaked report makes the extraordinary concession that the world has been warming at only just over half the rate claimed by the IPCC in its last assessment, published in 2007. (snip)

Back then, it said that the planet was warming at a rate of 0.2C every decade – a figure it claimed was in line with the forecasts made by computer climate models.

But the new report says the true figure since 1951 has been only 0.12C per decade – a rate far below even the lowest computer prediction.

36 out of 38 “computer models” have failed to predict the actual temperature rise, and certainly didn’t predict the current 15+ year pause. Now we find that the rate of warming is far below what they prognosticated. But, I bet when they actually release the report there will be lots of PR campaigns which will tell us just how dooooooomed we are around 2100.

They admit large parts of the world were as warm as they are now for decades at a time between 950 and 1250 AD – centuries before the Industrial Revolution, and when the population and CO2 levels were both much lower.

Well, obviously that’s because Mankind was going to invent the fossil fueled combustion engine in the future.

The IPCC admits that while computer models forecast a decline in Antarctic sea ice, it has actually grown to a new record high. Again, the IPCC cannot say why.

I’m sure they’ll figure out a way to Blame Mankind shortly.

A forecast in the 2007 report that hurricanes would become more intense has simply been dropped, without mention.

Actually, the 2007 report claimed that hurricane activity would look more like 2005, with lots and lots of hurricanes of all sizes striking land. It was not long after that Warmists switched to the “there won’t be more, but the few that will happen will be more intense” talking point.

Starting a week tomorrow, about 40 of the 250 authors who contributed to the report – and supposedly produced a definitive scientific consensus – will hold a four-day meeting in Stockholm, together with representatives of most of the 195 governments that fund the IPCC, established in 1998 by the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

So, Warmists and the IPCC like to mostly blame fossil fuels for the miniscule warming, yet are all certainly taking fossil fueled travel to Stockholm? Do as I say, not as I do.

Make sure you read the entire article, way too much to excerpt, including the death threats the Mail On Sunday’s reporter David Rose has received for daring to publish The Truth.

Politico Notices That Obama Is Bad At Defending His Friends

They also notice that there’s a Typical Pattern to how he operates

President Obama does friends no favors

Barack Obama’s got a knack for turning trial balloons into piñatas, and then leaving his allies to pick up the mess.

The pattern: He floats a buddy for a top job early, deliberates long enough for the opposition to gather steam, defends his pal too late to do any good and then regretfully accepts defeat.

First it was Susan Rice, his choice for secretary of state. Now, Larry Summers has withdrawn from consideration to become the next chairman of the Federal Reserve. Their candidacies were so poorly handled that neither ever made it to the stage of being nominated, much less getting blocked — or voted down — by the Senate.

In the case of Summers, it was Democrats who doomed his candidacy.

“So much for no-drama Obama,” said Jim Manley, a senior director at QGA Public Affairs who worked for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. “This was always going to be a tough vote. There was no slam dunk involved here. … Why would they want to go through that?”

The “no-drama Obama” is a myth, much like unicorns and fairies.

A larger question is of the president’s toughness. Liberal Democrats rallied against a Summers nomination. In another debate that never came up for a vote the White House could have easily lost, Obama was led into asking Congress for approval to bomb Syria. His summer-long fight with Russian President Vladimir Putin over NSA leaker Edward Snowden and the Syria issue has also hurt.

“It’s a consistent pattern where he says he’s going to do something, says he’s really going to fight for it, and then buckles the moment there’s any opposition,” said one veteran Democratic strategist. “It’s like the kiss of death if he wants if you for a job.”

It should be noted that Obama doesn’t always lose, but the pattern does apply to how he generally operates on most subjects more often than not. And even when he does win, he tends to engender bad feelings from one entity or another. But, I wouldn’t quite call it “buckling”, more like moving on in petulance, because those mean people refused to do as he dictates. He really doesn’t like people standing up to him.

ObamaCare Cares About Your Sex Life

And not only do they care, they want to know all the details. We already know that Los Federales want to know about so many other things in your life, like whether you’re enjoying your 2nd Amendment Rights (not mandatory, but the Feds recommend asking), every single bit of financial information, and other bits of your life, and this data will surely be shared across multiple federal and state agencies. And, can we really trust the IRS to not Do Something with the data it collects? Here’s something else they want (via Drudge, which features the below photo)

(NY Post) ‘Are you sexually active? If so, with one partner, multiple partners or same-sex partners?”

Be ready to answer those questions and more the next time you go to the doctor, whether it’s the dermatologist or the cardiologist and no matter if the questions are unrelated to why you’re seeking medical help. And you can thank the Obama health law.

“This is nasty business,” says New York cardiologist Dr. Adam Budzikowski. He called the sex questions “insensitive, stupid and very intrusive.” He couldn’t think of an occasion when a cardiologist would need such information — but he knows he’ll be pushed to ask for it.

The president’s “reforms” aim to turn doctors into government agents, pressuring them financially to ask questions they consider inappropriate and unnecessary, and to violate their Hippocratic Oath to keep patients’ records confidential.

Medical centers will also be forced to ask questions about drug use, which, all together, aren’t necessarily questions some doctors may need to ask (consider your primary care giver), but this information will be shared with the Government using their one click upload of data, and medical offices can be fined if they do not share all this info about Medicaid and Medicare patients starting in 2015, and lose incentives if they do not share the info about all patients.

The government recommends you pay cash if you do not want this info in their hands. Who has cash in the Obameconomy?

An Attack On Syria Would Be An Attack On The Entire World…Cause Of CO2

There are all sorts of good reasons to not attack Syria. Canadian Warmists have found another

(Rabble…btw, you have to read their About page to understand how far left these nuts are) Syria. It’s about oil. Again.

It’s more complex than that, but as noted in the Guardian, the plans for an attack on Syria are “fueled by oil interests, not chemical weapon concern”. Obama, Harper, and other war proponents are quick to claim that a US-led war on Syria wouldn’t be another Iraq. But with an Iran-Iraq-Syria pipeline plan in the balance, that’s precisely what it would be — the latest Western war waged against a Middle Eastern country to ensure control of the oil and gas in the region.

Hmm, oil, huh? Just like Libya? So, why are you Progressives out marching in the street against Obama? Or do you only do that against Republican presidents?

And while the hawks beat the oily drums of war once more, using a chemical attack in Syria as a pretext, little is said of the fact that a U.S.-led attack on Syria would be a attack on the entire world. This attack would release lethal quantities of CO2, an indiscriminate killer already known to cause at least 300,000 deaths every year, through an increasing amount of floods, droughts, hurricanes, heat waves, wildfires, and more.

By 2030, carbon-induced climate chaos could kill 500,000 annually.

The tragedy in Syria is an indisputably epic humanitarian disaster, with upwards of 100,000 killed in the civil war since 2011, 2 million refugees, and 4 million internally displaced. But launching even a “limited” bombing campaign in Syria would exacerbate the largest humanitarian disaster facing the world — climate chaos — while also claiming the lives of many Syrian civilians.

See? It’s so simple. To hell with the use of chemical weapons, hundreds of thousands killed, freedom from tyranny, any noble causes (hey, didn’t Barack just say some about reconciling “your belief in freedom and dignity for all people” for the Left just 5 days ago?), any military action could release some CO2, an “indiscriminate killer”, lethal, ya know, causing weather. And chaos. And, hey, possibly even a really cold winter. I bet it’s the reason I forgot to by Powerball tickets last night, too.

Sorta Blogless Sunday Pinup

Happy Sunday! Another gorgeous day in the Once And Future Nation Of America. Pinups have been a bit tame as of late, needed something that really pops today. Why? Why not? Not a clue who this pinup is by.

What is happening in Ye Olde Blogosphere? The Fine 15

  1. Zilla notes that DC was just the start for the bikers for freedom
  2. The Lonely Conservative notes what other data the feds want
  3. The People’s Cube has the god of thunder
  4. The Last Tradition notes Obama’s humiliation
  5. This ain’t Hell… notes that the White House peace vigil of 30 years is no more
  6. Wake Up America notes the delivery of weapons to al Qaeda in Syria
  7. The Gateway Pundit notes a security fail at TSA (surprise!)
  8. The Daley Gator notes the religious intolerance in America
  9. The Camp Of The Saints has an interesting Friday the 13th story

  15. And last, but not least, Sunshine Hours has some interesting data on August “warmth”

As always, the full set of pinups can be seen in the Patriotic Pinup category, or over at my Gallery page. While we are on pinups, since it is that time of year, have you gotten your “Pinups for Vets” calendar yet? And don’t forget to check outwhat I declare to be our War on Women Rule 5 and linky luv posts

Note: I’m on the road today, left early, so only including links up by 10pm Saturday night. Anything with an asterisk or a “last week’s” is last week’s. In some cases, I guessed what the Sunday URL might be. I’ll try and update in the evening. Otherwise, click the link and then head to the home page and poke around. PS: other posts you see during the day were written last night.

Anyone else have a link or hotty-fest going on? Let me know so I can add you to the list. (BTW, since someone asked, the reason I leave links for the previous week up (or you might see a *) is because they are place holders for later in the day or for next weeks. Easier than rewriting all the time. Also, the listing order has to do with how they are added over time, not how good a post is. I just copy and paste from the previous week, then edit. If you see one of the *’s, go ahead and check out the blog anyhow, see if there is an update. I cannot update with my Android during the day.

The posts do take a long time, so, if you want to send me your links for Rule 5 babeage or links, use ye olde email in the header bar (remove the NOSPAM part). Preferably, create the html link so I can copy and paste how you want it to read.
