“Climate Scientists” Told To Cover Up Reality Of No Warming Over Past 15+ Years

UN IPCC head Rajendra K Pachauri, who is not a climate scientist, recently admitted

“We are an intergovernmental body and we do what the governments of the world want us to do. If the governments decide we should do things differently and come up with a vastly different set of products we would be at their beck and call.”

The UK Daily Mail reports

Scientists working on the most authoritative study on climate change were urged to cover up the fact that the world’s temperature hasn’t risen for the last 15 years, it is claimed.

A leaked copy of a United Nations report, compiled by hundreds of scientists, shows politicians in Belgium, Germany, Hungary and the United States raised concerns about the final draft.

Published next week, it is expected to address the fact that 1998 was the hottest year on record and world temperatures have not yet exceeded it, which scientists have so far struggled to explain.

But leaked documents seen by the Associated Press, yesterday revealed deep concerns among politicians about a lack of global warming over the past few years.

Germany called for the references to the slowdown in warming to be deleted, saying looking at a time span of just 10 or 15 years was ‘misleading’ and they should focus on decades or centuries.

Hungary worried the report would provide ammunition for deniers of man-made climate change.

Belgium objected to using 1998 as a starting year for statistics, as it was exceptionally warm and makes the graph look flat – and suggested using 1999 or 2000 instead to give a more upward-pointing curve.

The United States delegation even weighed in, urging the authors of the report to explain away the lack of warming using the ‘leading hypothesis’ among scientists that the lower warming is down to more heat being absorbed by the ocean – which has got hotter.

How many times have I and other climate realist bloggers noted that this whole thing is about politics, not science? This is just more substantiation of that fact.

But, fine, they don’t want to use 1998? How about 1990? The UN IPCC prognosticated that warming would be .5F between 1990 and 2012. The reality? 0.28F. Phil Jones admitted that there was no “statistically significant” warming since 1995. And let’s not forget that this whole hysteria was based on a warming trend of 12 years. Since the 1850’s the Earth has warmed around 1.4F.

Let’s be clear: climate realists do not argue against the notion that the Earth has warmed. It has. We debate the causation. Warmists say it is mostly/solely the actions of mankind. Realists say it is mostly/solely (I come down on the mostly side) nature. You don’t see our side hiding data, changing data, coming up with wild excuses, etc.

Obama: GOP “Trying To Mess With Me”

Everything’s always about him. It matters little to the guy who’s supposed to be President of the USA that Obamacare is underwater in every single poll taken going all the way back to before this “train wreck” of a bill was passed via bribery and parliamentary tricks. Nope, he cares more about himself, and he forgets to note that he and his family will never have to live under the conditions his signature law created/creates

(CBS News) He called on Congress to quickly pass a funding bill that would avert a government shutdown beginning the start of the new fiscal year October 1st, and to also enact an increase in the debt ceiling, so the U.S. Treasury can resume borrowing to pay its obligations.

“They’re willing to plunge America into default, if we can’t defund Obamacare,” said the president.

“They’re not focused on you,” the president told about 2,000 Ford autoworkers gathered on the floor of the stamping plant. “They’re focused on politics. They’re focused on trying to mess with me.”

“This is not a banana republic,” the president said of the possibility the U.S. might have to default. “We don’t run out on our tab. We just can’t not pay our bills.”

How do you pay a $16 trillion tab? One of the definitions of “banana republic” discusses being run by a dictator and dependent on foreign capital to survive. The US government borrows 43 cents on every dollar it spends. Obama acts like dictator-lite. We have, depending on the source, $75-180 trillion in unfunded liabilities. But, hey, Obama’s not concerned with all that. Don’t mess with big bad tough Obama.

Meanwhile, he called House Speaker John Boehner up for a brief whiny call to rule out any negotiations. Tough guy O will negotiate with Putin, Assad, Iran, the Taliban, but not the GOP.

Surprise: “Green” Energy Causing German Energy Rates To Skyrocket

How’d this make it through the censors at the NY Times?

It is an audacious undertaking with wide and deep support in Germany: shut down the nation’s nuclear power plants, wean the country from coal and promote a wholesale shift to renewable energy sources.

But the plan, backed by Chancellor Angela Merkel and opposition parties alike, is running into problems in execution that are forcing Germans to come face to face with the costs and complexities of sticking to their principles.

German families are being hit by rapidly increasing electricity rates, to the point where growing numbers of them can no longer afford to pay the bill. Businesses are more and more worried that their energy costs will put them at a disadvantage to competitors in nations with lower energy costs, and some energy-intensive industries have begun to shun the country because they fear steeper costs ahead. (snip)

A new phrase, “energy poverty,” has entered the lexicon.

It certainly doesn’t help that 4 of the last 5 winters in Germany, and much of the world, have been brutal, and this winter is predicted to be brutal as well. And, because of all this barely-functioning “green” energy along with the destruction of energy that works to meet “climate change carbon reduction goals” Germans are regressing to earlier times before modern energy.

At some point these “green” methods will work. That time is not now.

Dems Walk Out On Benghazi Hearings Featuring Parents Of Killed Americans

Can you imagine the outrage in the NY Times, Washington Post, CBS, NBC, ABC, et all had Republicans pulled this?

(Townhall) During the second portion of a House Oversight and Government Reform hearing about Benghazi Thursday on Capitol Hill, the majority of Democrats on the Committee left the room and refused to listen to the testimony of Patricia Smith and Charles Woods. Ms. Smith is the mother of Sean Smith, an information management officer killed in the 9/11 Benghazi attack. Charles Woods is the father of Navy SEAL Tyrone Woods, who was also killed.

That’s something that every Republican should be highlighting from now through the 2014 Midterms.

Pelosi Unplugged In La La Land

We can always count on Nancy Pelosi to live in her own little private fantasy world

(Politico)Striking a tone of disgust, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi ridicules the GOP as obsessed with its loathing of President Obama and hell-bent on hurting him politically, regardless the cost. She assigns little to no blame to the president (even though Democrats privately say that’s laughable) and instead portrays him as saintly, above reproach and the victim of jealousy or something worse.

At this point, yes, we do somewhat loathe Barack Obama: he’s made it very easy as he turns everything hyperpartisan and takes every opportunity to demonize and demean Republicans, even using the resources of the White House to do it. It’s gotten to the point where his attacks on “Congressional Republicans” are attacks on us all, attacks on 50% of the U.S. citizens. We loathe him as the President and as a politician, along with most of his politicians. That’s on him.

“You know why it is,” she said. “You know why it is. He’s brilliant, … he thinks in a strategic way in how to get something done … and he’s completely eloquent. That’s a package that they don’t like.”

Brilliant, huh? His signature legislation is underwater in popularity, and always has been. His Stimulus was a vast waste of money and a failure. His foreign policy is a disaster. And, eloquent?

What’s Wrong With Big Government, Flip Flops Edition

This one’s a pip

(LA Times) File this under “Things that make you go ‘Huh?,’ California section”: The city of San Juan Capistrano has banned flip-flops at two city parks.

And better yet: City officials apparently didn’t know they’d done it.

And even better yet: It’s a rule, but no one is enforcing it.

OK, insert your “crazy Californians” joke here.

But really, what’s next: banning bikinis at the beach, or Ray Bans, or fire pits? (Oh, wait, scratch that last one.)

This is from the opinion piece by Paul Whitefield, based on the article by Paloma Esquivel. The flip-flops rule will not be enforced, because there are no supervisors at the parks. The article notes

On Monday, Commission Secretary Cynthia Alexander said she had been informed by city staff that the ban was designed to protect the city from liability under a template provided by the California Joint Powers Insurance Authority, which provides liability insurance to dozens of cities in the state.

In case you’re wondering, yes, the CJPIA is essentially a government agency, a way of self-insuring over 120 member municipalities. And somehow the flip-flops rule  slipped in with no one knowing, and is unenforceable. Not that you’d really want to wear flip-flops at the parks, the dog park being mostly dirt and the other is a wildlife area known for rattlesnakes, does Government really need to tell you “NO!!!!! You Shall Not Wear Flip-flops!!!!!!”?

New Climate Study Blows Away Anthropogenic Causation

Ahead of the soon to be released UN IPCC report, much of which has been leaked and destroyed already, and of which Nature stated that were “out of date by the time they hit the street”, a new peer-reviewed report has been released that thrashes the Warmists and their Blamestorming of Mankind for releasing GHGs. The report is strong enough that Warmists immediately trotted out their “antiscience” meme without reading it. They just know the report is a danger to their cult

(Breitbart) The report, which cites thousands of peer-reviewed articles the United Nations-sponsored panel on climate change ignored, also found that “no empirical evidence exists to substantiate the claim that 2°C of warming presents a threat to planetary ecologies or environments” and no convincing case can be made that “a warming will be more economically costly than an equivalent cooling.” The U.N.’s panel is scheduled to release its next report next month.

The Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change, or NIPCC, which produced the report, is described as “an international panel of scientists and scholars who came together to understand the causes and consequences of climate change.” Unlike the “United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which is government-sponsored, politically motivated, and predisposed to believing that climate change is a problem in need of a U.N. solution,” NIPCC “has no formal attachment to or sponsorship from any government or governmental agency” and is “wholly independent of political pressures and influences and therefore is not predisposed to produce politically motivated conclusions or policy recommendations.”

The report blows away the Warmist hysteria regarding sea rise, temperature rise, melting glaciers, “extreme” weather, the Arctic, and every other bit of doom and gloom.

“We conclude no unambiguous evidence exists for adverse changes to the global environment caused by human-related CO2 emissions,” the authors write. “In particular, the cryosphere is not melting at an enhanced rate; sea-level rise is not accelerating; no systematic changes have been documented in evaporation or rainfall or in the magnitude or intensity of extreme meteorological events; and an increased release of methane into the atmosphere from permafrost or sub-seabed gas hydrates is unlikely.”

I’d highly recommend reading at least the Summary For Policymakers. The study focuses on actual observable data, rather than computer models, micro-reconstructions, and “normalized” data. Nor does it completely dismiss what Mankind does, but notes that our works are miniscule in comparison to natural variability.

*Note: the attached graphic is not from the report, but one that has been out that highlights the difference between the Warmist computer models and real world observations.

Boehner: Obama Will Work With Putin, But Not GOP?

A valid question

(The Hill) The Speaker contrasts the White House’s policy on Syria with its stance on debt-limit negotiations.

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) released a Web video on Thursday seeking to contrast the White House’s willingness to work with the Russians to find a diplomatic solution in Syria against President Obama’s declaration that he won’t negotiate with Republicans over the debt limit.

“The Obama administration on working with Congress to address the debt and deficit,” the ad says, before cutting to a montage of Obama and senior members of his staff saying they will not negotiate over the country’s debt ceiling.

“The Obama administration on working with Putin on Syria,” the ad continues, before cutting to pictures of Obama looking chummy with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Why is the Obama administration willing to negotiate with Putin on Syria … But not with Congress to address Washington’s spending problem?,” text from the ad asks.

Let’s be fair, John. Obama needed Putin to save his bacon after setting a “red line”, then not having the fortitude, nor plan, nor backing of Congress and the American People, nor any international partner other than France willing to participate in military action. Nor did his silver tongue do its job in convincing anyone to change their minds. Obama backed himself into a corner of his own making, one in which Obama looked weak and ineffective, especially when he played golf twice, and Obama latched on to the Putin plan like a guy in Great White infested waters latches on to a life line. It was all about Saving Obama. With most of the negotiations outsourced to John Kerry and others. Negotiating with the GOP? Obama doesn’t see anything in it for Obama. Plus, that’s, you know, work.
