We’re Saved: Warmists Come Up With Concept Of Giant PV Duck

Of all the silly spreading awareness things the Warmists come up with, this one is rather amusing

(PV Magazine) A team of London-based artists have come up with a unique renewable energy generator and storage concept for this year’s Land Art Generator Initiative Design Competition in Copenhagen: a giant energy duck that covered in solar panels and equipped with hydraulic turbines capable of producing electricity 24 hours a day.

Designed by Hareth Pochee, Adam Khan, Louis Leger and Patrick Fryer, the public artwork proposal would also serve as an interactive and educational tourist destination while also celebrating local wildlife.

According to the artists’ submission, the Energy Duck is modeled on the eider duck, which is found in the waters of Copenhagen. The fact that the eider duck’s breeding habitat has been at increasing risk from the effects of climate change inspired the team to use its form to raise awareness of the local impacts of the global environmental threat.

Said “duck” is designed to float in Copenhagen’s harbor, and will be 12 stories tall. It’s actually pretty ingenious. A nice energy alternative. Why did they have to ruin it by injecting Hotcoldwetdry?

While the initiative does not guarantee that the winning projects will be realized, it seeks to promote and support the transition to alternative energy by stimulating and challenging public opinion about what clean energy can look like.

In other words, this is pretty much a spreading awareness contest. Nothing more. Shame. Energy Duck would be kinda cool.

Israel Asks: What Would You Do?

For liberals, the answer would be a bit of navel gazing, wondering “what did we do to make Hamas send a constant rain of rockets which intentionally target civilians?” Remember, they took this tact almost immediately after 9/11.

(Washington Times) The official Twitter account for the Israeli Defense Forces on Monday sent out a picture of the London skyline being bombarded with missiles and the caption “What would you do?” as fighting continued in Gaza.

“Hamas terrorists just fired rockets at southern and central Israel. What if they were attacking your home?” reads the tweet, which is accompanied by a doctored image of incoming rockets and an explosion over the Houses of Parliament.

An IDF spokesman told The Telegraph the picture was crafted by the military’s “interactive media branch” to illustrate what Israel is going through as Hamas launches rockets at targets in the country.

“It’s an iconic image. When people look at the image they realize what country we’re talking about,” said Captain Eytan Buchman. “If a rocket landed near Westminster, it’s not a reality that any country could tolerate.”

From the Telegraph article

James Clappison MP, the Parliamentary Chairman of Conservative Friends of Israel, supported the advert.

“For a long time rockets have been fired into Israel and that hasn’t been reported. We would not permit rockets to be fired at our country. We would take action.”

He added he wanted to see an end to the bloodshed but added: “This is Hamas’ choice. The ball is in their court.”

Obviously, the Typical Hamas Apologists did not like the tweet, and Blame Israel, showing their Israeli hatred and hatred of Jews. Hamas are the ones targeting civilians and surrounding their arms with human shields, including children, yet the Israel haters call Israel the terrorists and bad guys. It wasn’t Israel which tore down the 3,000 greenhouses in Gaza and turned it into a war camp.

Dionne: You GOP Meanies Make Everything About Obama

The Washington Post’s E.J. Dionne is very upset over the notion that Bystander In Chief Obama is being criticized for his handling of, well, pretty much everything. Because no other president (Bush 43) has ever had to endure this. Unsaid goes the notion that you’re all probably raaaaacists for criticizing him, though he’s probably thinking it hard. On the front page of the WP the article is entitled “The foreign policy wake up call“, but titled “Will flight 17 sober us up?” in the article. Doubtful, because Liberals will support Obama no matter what

Tragedies concentrate the mind.

U.S. politics was trundling along on its usual unserious and trivial trajectory when news of the crash of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 in Ukraine shook the world. Suddenly, the stakes in public life and foreign policy were very high.

Because things like IRS targeting, illegal alien”children” are streaming across the border, the VA is a mess, and Obama is campaigning and playing golf. We’ll skip a few paragraphs regarding Putin and Flight 17

It’s an agenda that ought to bring the United States and Europe together. But will it bring Americans together? The horror has been widely described as “a wake-up call.” It’s not yet clear if our dysfunctional, foolishly partisan and petty political system will even pick up the phone.

Hey, Obama picked up the phone. On his way to multiple fundraisers on the day Flight 17 was shot down.

Partisanship — defined as vigorous, principled disagreement — has an honored place in democracy. We are in the midst of such a debate over foreign policy in both parties. The recent GOP op-ed brawl between Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky over Iraq and the United States’ world role is a sign of things to come.

That’s good. What’s not good is the habit of Obama’s foes to make every foreign policy crisis about him, whether it is or not. At the beginning of the Ukraine crisis, some Republicans compared Obama unfavorably to Putin (“He makes a decision and he executes it, quickly,” an admiring Rudy Giuliani said of the Russian dictator.) The sound-bite driven obsession with Benghazi, Libya, is the apotheosis of unseriousness.

So, to recap, in-fighting between Republicans is good, criticizing Obama is Bad. Alas, Obama makes virtually every crisis about himself by failing to act as POTUS. He typically speaks in “I” and “me”, rarely “us” and “we”. Then he disappears to do anything but the job. No one would really have a concern with a bit of down time nor campaigning if he was doing the job he ran for twice. In case Dionne missed it, after the fundraisers, he sped off to Camp David, supposedly made a few calls, then hit the golf course. That is the “apotheosis of unseriousness”.

Nonetheless, Obama needs to offer the other side of his doctrine. The notion that the United States is retreating from the world is simply wrong, as Kerry argued vigorously on Sunday.

But it’s not a case Kerry should even have to make. Obama must match his clarity about the limits on what the United States can do militarily with equal clarity about what the United States is doing and will do to create a modestly less dangerous world.

This crisis is an occasion for Obama to try to create an oasis of consensus at a time when our politics is allergic to the very idea.

So, Dionne admits this is a situation created by Obama. Kerry, and other Obama appointees, have been very forceful in their rhetoric. And, let’s face it, there is little that can be done beyond sanctions. We won’t go to war over Flight 17. But Obama could have come out and spoken passionately about the shoot down, instead of looking and sounding like the whole issue of Governing bored him to tears. He could have given more than a 38 second soundbite initially, along with cancelling his scheduled meet and greet and a restaurant. He certainly gets passionate on the campaign trail. Perhaps he can use some of the venom he aims at Republicans, ie, fellow Americans, at Putin and the Ukrainian separatists.

Obama made this situation by being a weak-knee’d milquetoast, forever leading from behind and seemingly bored with doing his job.

BTW, Dionne should probably ask his fellow media figures why they make everything about Obama, such as CNN, with an article entitled World events derail Obama’s agenda and CBS News goes with As world crises continue to erupt, how will Obama react?

World Council Of Churches Won’t Invest In Fossil Fuels Cause “Climate Change”

I really don’t care who yammers on about “climate change”. If it’s a religious body, I’ll call them out from my small perch

(Ecumenical Times) The World Council of Churches says it will not invest in fossil fuels its main governing body has decided as part of its ethical policies, commitment to caring for creation and reversing climate change.

“The WCC wants to be careful in its investments, avoiding what we see as unethical in businesses today.

“And through our investment policy give signals as to practices that we believe are not serving a sustainable future,” WCC general secretary Rev. Olav Fykse Tveit said.

“The use of fossil fuels must be significantly reduced and by not investing in those companies we want to show a direction we need to follow as a human family to address climate changes properly.

Of course, they don’t mind using those same fossil fuels themselves

The decision will have an impact on discussion about energy to an upcoming Interfaith Summit on Climate Change from September 21 to 22 in New York, prior to the United Nations Climate Summit.

The WWC includes churches from all over the world. How will they get to New York City, for the United Nations IPCC sponsored whinefest?

At the end of the day, this is not about religion, but about people within religion, who should probably focus on things like, oh, morals.

And don’t forget to check out what I declare to be our War on Women Rule 5 and linky luv posts and things that interest me

Anyone else have a link or hotty-fest going on? Let me know so I can add you to the list. (BTW, since someone asked, the reason I leave links for the previous week up (or you might see a *) is because they are place holders for later in the day or for next weeks. Easier than rewriting all the time. Also, the listing order has to do with how they are added over time, not how good a post is. I just copy and paste from the previous week, then edit. If you see one of the *’s, go ahead and check out the blog anyhow, see if there is an update. I cannot update with my Android during the day.

Pro-Terrorist Palestinian Supporters Protest Against Israel

It never fails. Palestinian terrorists fire rockets into Israel (or some other action) without regard to the fact that they are targeting civilians, Israel responds with targeted force against the rocket emplacements, Palestinians ramp up their attacks, and Israel is forced to respond with heavy force. At that point, the Typical Palestinian Supporting Idiots take to the streets in protest. Here’s how it looked in Raleigh

(WRAL) Hundred of people rallied at the state Capitol grounds in Raleigh Saturday afternoon to protest the continuing violence in Gaza.

A statement from rally organizers says there is an emerging call for an end to the violence and for human rights and justice that will lead to safety and security for all Palestinians and Israelis.

(Please see article for photo. WRAL asked nicely to remove. It was posted under Fair Use law, but they were nice, didn’t threaten, and I like WRAL. Plus, I managed to drop the link.)

Apparently, WRAL wasn’t interested in showing more pictures of the terrorist supporters. One also has to click the picture to see the full size, which shows Typical Terrorist Supporters wearing Intifada keffiyas. Occupation? What occupation? Israel pretty much gave Gaza to the Palestinians, which, instead of fixing roads, building hospitals, creating jobs, feeding the people, spent all their money on weapons of war. As Charles Krauthammer noted a few days ago

And how did the Gaza Palestinians react to being granted by the Israelis what no previous ruler, neither Egyptian, nor British, nor Turkish, had ever given them — an independent territory? First, they demolished the greenhouses. Then they elected Hamas. Then, instead of building a state with its attendant political and economic institutions, they spent the better part of a decade turning Gaza into a massive military base, brimming with terror weapons, to make ceaseless war on Israel.

Where are the roads and rail, the industry and infrastructure of the new Palestinian state? Nowhere. Instead, they built mile upon mile of underground tunnels to hide their weapons and, when the going gets tough, their military commanders. They spent millions importing and producing rockets, launchers, mortars, small arms, even drones. They deliberately placed them in schools, hospitals, mosques and private homes to better expose their own civilians. (Just Thursday, the U.N. announced that it found 20 rockets in a Gaza school.) And from which they fire rockets at Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.

That’s what these Useful Idiots are supporting. You can see a few more photos at true communist website Fuck Year Marxism-Leninism.

Of course, as one would expect, there were plenty of Palestinian terrorist supporting rallies around the world, calling for peace and stuff, which obviously turned violent. They set Paris on fire. Cause peace.

There were also plenty of protests in Canada. Strange how none of them call for the Gaza government to build roads and food production facilities, along with removal of rockets and other weapons from citizens homes

Terrorist supporting protests in England. Al Jazeera has plenty of photos from terrorist supporting protests around the world. Funny how none of them are telling the Palestinian terrorists in Gaza, Hamas, specifically, to stop targeting civilians with their weapons of war and spend the money on turning Gaza into something other than a terrorist camp.

Hotcoldwetdry Is Bad For Chicago Tourism

Is this a cult?

(Chicago Sun Times) Chicagoans love to be outside. Millions of tourists and residents enjoy the wide variety of activities that Chicago offers — our museums, music, sports, food and, of course, our waterways. These industries are of great importance to the economy.

As president of a tour boat company that offers Chicago Architecture Foundation tours and events on the Chicago River and Lake Michigan, recent experience has me concerned that a fluctuating economy is not the only danger to my business. Climate change has brought Chicago unpredictable and increasingly extreme weather. The erratic behavior of Mother Nature has literally caused boatloads of people to miss out on celebrating a memorable occasion with family and friends on Chicago’s waterways. Extreme rain produced the wettest June in 86 years and was followed by a wet, cool July. Extreme hot temperatures put our guests and employees at risk for heat exhaustion. Unexpectedly cold temperatures, like snow in April and 60 degrees in July, leave out of town guests unprepared to spend much time outdoors exploring Chicago.

Moreover, an unusually long winter like the one endured in 2014 showed that more severe storms and weather in the winter also hurt business bottom lines. The long, extreme cold further into the spring causes a drop in sales for group tour business and private events in the early part of the season as people are not yet ready to commit to outdoors activities. A colder Lake Michigan has resulted in fog blocking visibility for sightseeing.

It’s a cult

Our elected officials recognize that climate change is not just a prediction that our grandchildren will have to figure out. It is happening now and affecting us today.

So, cold weather is caused by use of fossil fuels? Perhaps Ms. Holly Agra, “president of Chicago’s First Lady Cruises and a member of the U.S. Travel and Tourism Advisory Board, which advises the U.S. Commerce Secretary on matters related to the travel and tourism industry”, can tell us how she is getting all the boats to switch to fuels other than fossil, and, really, isn’t tourism Bad for “climate change”? People take fossil fueled flights and automotive trips to get to Chicago, and use lots of electricity.

Has Obama Checked Out?

One of the notions people have been discussing about Mr. Obama is whether or not he has checked out. Allahpundit calls him the semi-retired president. He’s been called the bystander president. Many have noted his lame duck status. Really, though, has he ever checked in as President? Here’s Jennifer Rubin

Obama plays hooky during a perilous time

Even President Obama’s supporters must acknowledge that at times he behaves bizarrely. During the attack on Sept. 11, 2012, in Benghazi, Libya, he barked out a few vague orders and then retreated to his residence, although his spinners insist that he was “briefed.” (How about leading?) The next day, he went to a fundraiser in Las Vegas.

He won’t go to the border to view the humanitarian disaster involving tens of thousands of children. Yesterday, with the downing of a passenger jet, allegedly by Russian weapons, and then the onset of a ground war in Gaza, President Obama was off — to two New York fundraisers.

That’s the best place to find him. He has done almost 400 fundraisers in six years and played 176 rounds of golf. No one thinks presidents should be barred from fundraising or playing golf, but Obama’s excessive, some would say obsessive, attention to activities unrelated to governing is disturbing, all the more so since he seems so disengaged and unpresidential when he does nominally show up for work. He has no discernible Iraq policy, he’s given up on entitlement reform, he won’t make a decision on the Keystone XL pipeline. His favorite activity (other than golf, fundraising and holding forth at dinners with pop stars and other famous people) is holding campaign-style events at which he rips opponents in nasty and unpresidential tones. He constantly learns about scandals in the press, and then hides from the media until the pressure builds to say something.

There are many high level issues going on in the country and the world right now, and what is Obama’s Weekly Address on? Equipping workers with skills needed for now and in the future. He’s pushed this on and off again many, many times. Yet, all the government programs he’s pushed through his 5+ years have failed

This week, Vice President Biden will release a report he’s been working on to reform our job training system into a job-driven training system. And I’ll visit a community college in L.A. that’s retraining workers for careers in the fast-growing health care sector. Because every worker deserves to know that if you lose your job, your country will help you train for an even better one.

In other words, creating the report was too much work for Obama. Who wants to bet that Obama has several fundraisers on tap during that L.A. trip? This is his pattern: schedule a short official event somewhere near his big money donors, that way he isn’t charged for use of Air Force 1.

At the end of the day, Obama never really checked in. Jennifer Rubin referred to him as “the guy in the office who is never in, seems to take a lot of afternoons off and is expert at avoiding work.” Someone at Ace Of Spades once wrote “Obama likes to BE president. He doesn’t like to DO president”. One of his first official acts was to sign a document to close Guantanamo Bay jihadi detention center. But, he didn’t follow that up with the hard work required to actually get it closed. He does the minimum work necessary, mostly using talking points and hyper-partisan speeches. Remember his sticky note economic plan? Four bulletin points on a sticky note, essentially telling Other People to get ‘er done. There was no follow up, not detailed plan released, no calls to Congress, not even to Democrats.

He seemed bored giving a speech yesterday, for which he was almost half an hour late, on the shooting down of a commercial airliner in the Ukraine. Perhaps he was pining to get on the road to Camp David for a well deserved weekend of continuing to avoid work.
