Sharpton: Indiana Religious Freedom Law Totally Like Slavery And Jim Crow Or Something

As Weasel Zippers notes, “This is the same guy who called a man a “punk faggot” on national TV.” And we surely can’t forget Sharpton’s involvement and leadership in pograms against Jews.

“This is a key moment for the country. Too often in our history, we’ve seen religion used to justify attacks on other people’s rights, from slavery, to Jim Crow, to women’s right to vote. That same fight is with us today, and we can’t let it stand.”

Interestingly, Leftists just like Al Sharpton are only interested in these attacks from one religion that occurred in the past. They are less than interested in those same attacks that come from Islam. In fact, if you even bring these issues up, you’ll be branded a racist, a bigot, and an Islamophobe. Honor killings? Jihad? Anti-Semitism? Forcing women to be covered from head to toe? Making women obtain 4 witnesses if raped, otherwise she will be whipped? Not allowing women to drive? Stoning women for adultery? Hanging gays? These are all issues, and the list keeps going, from hardcore Islam. Why are Leftists unconcerned about these actions? Actions which would not be allowed under Indiana’s RFRA. Indiana Governor Mike Pence penned an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal, which is, sadly, behind the pay wall, that explains the law. Here’s a snippet via the governor’s home page

“I want to make clear to Hoosiers and every American that despite what critics and many in the national media have asserted, the law is not a ‘license to discriminate,’ either in Indiana or elsewhere.”

“I abhor discrimination. I believe in the Golden Rule that you should ‘do unto others as you would have them do unto you.’ If I saw a restaurant owner refuse to serve a gay couple, I wouldn’t eat there anymore.”

“As governor of Indiana, if I were presented a bill that legalized discrimination against any person or group, I would veto it. Indiana’s new law contains no reference to sexual orientation. It simply mirrors federal law that President Bill Clinton signed in 1993.”

“Some express concern that Indiana’s RFRA law would lead to discrimination, but RFRA only provides a mechanism to address claims, not a license for private parties to deny services. Even a claim involving private individuals under RFRA must show that one’s religious beliefs were ‘substantially burdened’ and not in service to a broader government interest—which preventing discrimination certainly is. The government has the explicit power under the law to step in and defend such interests.”

“The hospitality and character of Hoosiers are synonymous with everything that is good about America. Faith and religion are important values to millions of Indiana residents. With the passage of this legislation, Indiana will continue to be a place that respects the beliefs of every person in our state.”

He also notes that much of this was about protecting religious people from Obamacare.

Here’s the thing: many people and businesses are legally allowed to deny service. “No shirt, no shoes, no service”. People can be banned from businesses for improper conduct. Does a business have to make a “Hitler cake“? No. What if someone wanted a cake with violent tones on it? No, they do not have to make it. Does a business have a right to discriminate simply because a person is gay, Black, a woman? No. However, they wouldn’t have to make a gay a wedding cake.

What if someone came into a Muslim (or Jewish) bakery and wanted a cake with bacon on it? Would the baker be within their religious rights to say “no, I cannot make that”? Yes, they would. In a rational world, the people wanting the cake would say “I understand. I may not agree with your religious beliefs, but I understand, and respect your beliefs. Can you recommend a good baker?” In today’s society, where everyone is Offended, that is not what seems to happen, and Something Must Be Done, forcing compliance, particularly under Government intervention.

Our Planet Is Flatlining From A 1.4F Temp Increase Or Something

Nice to hear from the hysterical 20 something crowd

I’m twentysomething, I vote, and I won’t take seriously any candidate who doubts climate change

I’m a voter — a white, male, college-educated twentysomething voter, born in the conservative South, living in the liberal North. I was raised in a middle-class family but now occupy an economic class more concerned with finding jobs than itemizing tax deductions. I understand the complex foreign policy issues our country faces and yet I do not understand the self-cannibalizing direction of our domestic politics.

My vote is up for grabs. Heading into 2016, it will be coveted, along with those of my fellow twentysomethings. For any candidate looking to “inspire the youth vote,” here is the key to mine.

If you’re thinking “a good jobs market coupled with a great economy”, well, you didn’t read the headlines

Today’s news leaves no American wanting for reasons to fear: Islamic State, Iran, Syria, North Korea, Russia, not to mention our own border security, national debt and political gridlock. Yet one issue receiving less attention is the most pressing: Our planet is dying. It is hemorrhaging, suffocating and it is going to flatline. Soon.

Evidence of this inexorable march toward planetary collapse is overwhelming and yet the United States, the nation that considers itself “leader of the free world,” can’t even agree that it is happening? This is the issue. The only issue. We must do something to slow this trend — because we’ve already squandered any hope of reversing it.

Doooooooom! I guess if you have no reasonable job prospects, thanks to voting for people like Obama, one has time to whine about Hotcoldwetdry. Even though the Earth has survived multiple warm periods, ones which were warmer than the current warm period, in the Holocene alone.

The youth of this country want desperately to be proactive. We aren’t entitled. We want to innovate and improve things. This is not a crisis we asked for, but it will define our lifetime.

I wonder if the writer, John Cubelic, has given up all use of fossil fuels and made his own life “carbon neutral”? Obviously, that is rhetorical, because we know the answer is “no”. For all the talk of being proactive, it’s all about forcing other people to comply.

Climate change threatens the future of the planet. If that rhetoric sounds alarmist, that is only because we have been asleep on this issue for far too long. As for politicians who refuse to wake up, I take that inaction or opposition as a direct threat to my future and the future of my family. No politician who threatens me, my home and my family would ever receive my vote.

What action have you taken in your life, John?

White House: Nuclear Deal Totally Doable If Country That Says “Death To America” Cooperates

The White House is desperate to get a deal, any deal, done

(The Hill) White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said on Sunday that he is optimistic that the Obama administration can reach a nuclear deal with Iran by Tuesday’s self-imposed deadline.

Earnest said that the deadline will be met if a deal is “doable,” and said Iran’s cooperative is key.

“Ultimately, the president believes that we should be able to … reach an agreement by the end of March if one is doable,” Earnest said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week,” noting that the Obama administration has been negotiating with Iran for more than a year in an effort to reduce its nuclear capabilities.

Apparently, Obama was working on the deal while playing golf over the weekend in Florida.

“it’s time for the Iranians to send a clear signal to the international community about whether or not they are willing to make the serious commitments required, and basically live up to their rhetoric, that they are not trying to acquire a nuclear weapon,” he said.

Clear signal?

How about this for another clear signal

(NY Post) The talks with Iran over its nuclear program hit a snag Sunday when the Islamic state reportedly said it would no longer agree to ship atomic fuel outside of the country.

The removal of the fuel has been a major part of the proposed agreement, and Iran had long agreed to send its atomic fuel to Russia.

But, according to The New York Times, Iran’s foreign minister ruled out the removal of the fuel stockpile.

“The export of stocks of enriched uranium is not in our program, and we do not intend sending them abroad,” Abbas Araqchi reportedly said. “There is no question of sending the stocks abroad.”

There were three main points to any agreement: inspections, centrifuges, and exporting the fuel. Iran has said “no” to snap inspections, and limited the types and locations of inspections. Team Obama followed the Iranian line. They have 18000 centrifuges, with 10000 spinning. They’ll be limited to a meager 6000. Now the third part seems to have fallen apart after Iran initially agreed to ship the atomic fuel. It’s almost like Iran knows Obama wants a deal no matter how bad it is.

Big Government: People Need A License To Showcase And Allow Pictures Of Llamas

Conservatives are often asked what our problem is with Government, usually followed by the strawman from Liberals that we want to do away with all government. First, the anarchists tend to vote Democrat. Second, we do not want to do away with government, we want to reign in the size and, more important, scope of government. Government that constantly has mission creep, that is a bit too dictatorial, too intrusive, too bossy, too ridiculous. Case in point

(AP) The llamas that became a social media sensation running around a Phoenix-area retirement enclave last month are saying goodbye to the spotlight with one last event Saturday.

Kahkneeta and Laney, whose televised dash mesmerized the Internet and Sun City residents, will likely be making their final public appearance at a Phoenix race track, according to owners Bub Bullis and Karen Freund.

Here we go

The llama drama that spawned jokes and Twitter hashtags also got the attention of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Freund said.

A USDA official contacted them shortly after the Feb. 26 incident, saying they needed a license to showcase their llamas or even allow people to snap photos of them, the couple said. Neither was aware of such a policy. The husband and wife, who are both retired Phoenix police officers, had planned to continue offering the llamas for therapy and educational purposes.

That’s right: a member of a federal government agency actually told them that. A license. It seems like we need a license for everything these days. Part of it simply means giving government money. Did you know that the person selling you a car needs a license? They don’t have to earn it, take a test, or anything other than work for a dealership and pay a fee. Want to show your llamas to help out people? You need a license. Want to simply live as an American? Purchase health insurance Or Else.

“They just totally destroyed everything I had planned for my retirement,” Freund said. “We’ve taken them to schools before. Now they’re telling me I can’t do anything, even like a photo shoot.”

Freund said she is frustrated because the USDA won’t respond to any of her follow-up calls about the matter because everything has to be in writing. So they are giving up for now.

They say if the USDA wants to fine them, so be it. They won’t play the game anymore. Government forgets that they’re there to serve the Citizenry, not the other way around.

World Bank President: We Totally Need To Tackle “Climate Change”… For The Kids

It’s always most amusing when Warmists, who tend to hold a Progressive (nice fascist) ideology, one which is considered far to the Left, start yammering about something being “for the kids”. Theres are the same folks who fully endorse abortion on demand for any reason and on any whim. And we’re supposed to use taxpayer money to pay for it. We’re only supposed to indoctrinate, er, educate kids in Government schools. Well, Other People’s kids, that is. We’re supposed to do this and that “for the kids”, such as opening the borders. And, per fossil fuels jet setting World Bank President Jim Yong Kim

Tackling Climate Change — For Our Kids

If you have children or grandchildren, you probably have wondered what the world will be like for them in 20 or 30 years. Will it be a better place? Will climate change upend their lives?

It’s something I have thought about a lot since I became the president of the World Bank Group in July 2012. Within my first few months on the job, I was briefed on an upcoming climate change report, and the findings shocked me. I knew then that tackling climate change would be one of my top priorities as the leader of a development institution whose mission is ending extreme poverty by 2030 and boosting shared prosperity. If we don’t start controlling climate change, the mission to end poverty will fail.

The linking of “controlling climate change” (yup, nuttbaggery) with poverty is just the latest attempt to force “climate change” legislation (treaties, agreements, etc), following on notions such as sustainability and diversity and many others.

Mr. Kim then goes on to highlight a UN IPCC computer model (snicker) which spells out DOOOOOOOOM if we don’t Do Something, despite the fact that 95% of the models have failed. And, of course, blames every weather event on Hotcoldwetdry, taking the party line of extreme weather and bigger and badder storms. In contradiction of real world data, of course. This leads to

We need a plan for the planet.

And the world needs to put the brakes on climate change. But any plan to tackle climate change can’t sacrifice economic growth if we hope to end extreme poverty, reduce inequality, and ensure that poor people gain access to energy.

We need to decouple growth from carbon emissions.

Huh. Interesting. If that’s the case, will Mr. Kim forgo his own use of fossil fuels? He’s certainly spent quite a bit of time jet setting around the world. Will he demand that all who attend the Managing the Carbon Bubble event on April 15th not use fossil fueled travel? Anyway, he has 5 ideas to “decouple growth from carbon emissions” (despite this being unscientific terminology, as we are discussing CO2)

  • Put a price on carbon. (despite virtually every carbon market collapsing.
  • Phase out fossil fuel subsidies. (of course, they are mostly tax breaks, not subsidies, and every country which relies on fossil fuels has a much higher standard of living than those who don’t)
  • Encourage energy efficiency and renewable energy. (left unsaid is that this would be enforced by Big Government under penalty of law)
  • Build low-carbon cities. (he really wants this for “developing countries”, which would still have no actual economic activity, just destitute people living in hovels in cities)
  • Enable climate-smart agriculture. (seriously, these people can’t build a website (among others), do you want them in charge of food production?)

He ends with

These five areas of action could help the world get off the path toward 4 degree of warming. For our part, the World Bank Group is trying to build climate change considerations into everything we do, because we know that if we don’t confront climate change, there will be no hope of ending poverty or boosting shared prosperity. The longer we delay, the higher the cost will be to do the right thing for our planet and our children.

Notice that nowhere does he recommend that…..yup, here it comes!….Warmists forgo their own use of fossil fuels. Nor does he even recommend eliminating the use of fossil fuels. The first two, carbon markets and fossil fuels “subsidies” would benefit the rich, who wouldn’t be bothered much by purchasing carbon offsets (which is like paying a speeding ticket for Bad Behavior rather than giving up speeding) nor the massive rise in the cost of living due to the large increase in the cost of fossil fuels. If it’s “for the kids”, Warmists should immediately give up fossil fuels and make their own lives “carbon neutral”.

Washington Post Very Concerned Over Child Suspended For A Year

Your first thought was probably “finally, a newspaper that is concerned about all the idiotic suspensions for kids who do something like make a pop tart gun or makes a gun with their fingers or something”. Nope. Here’s the Editorial Board

The weed that wasn’t

THE NEWS is full of instances in which deficits in common sense produce bad outcomes. But rarely is the deficit so clear, or the outcome so wretched, as in the case of a sixth-grade boy in Bedford County, Va., who received a year-long suspension from school for possessing a single leaf of marijuana — which, on closer inspection, turned out not to be marijuana at all.

The pupil, who is 11, was enrolled in a gifted-and-talented program not far from Roanoke when an assistant principal found the leaf in his backpack in September. Leave aside the possibility — hardly remote in middle school — that the leaf may have been planted as a prank, which the boy’s parents suspect is the case; the leaf was not in dried, smokable form, and there is no suggestion that the boy smoked, sold or purchased this particular leaf — or any other.

The boy was suspended for a year and charged in juvenile court with possession. Then, whoops, they realized that it wasn’t even marijuana. But, the school did not back down, noting that policy prohibits imitation drugs. The parents, both teachers (who would probably freak out if a kid made “bang bang” sounds) sued the school and the sheriff’s department. The school ordered the child to undergo a substance abuse evaluation.

“But by then,” wrote Dan Casey, who broke the story in the Roanoke Times, “the boy had other problems.” His parents says he now suffers from depression and panic attacks and fears being in public. Hardly surprising if you remember that this is an 11-year-old.

He was finally allowed to return to school, but a different one, and is on super-secret double probation, meaning, one slip up, and he’s out.

Whatever damage that single leaf could have done, even if it had been marijuana, cannot possibly compare to the harm that has resulted from the school system’s policies and actions. The real question is: Why couldn’t anyone in Bedford County figure that out?

This begs the question: why hasn’t the Washington Post EB stood up for all the kids treated in the same manner when it comes to fake guns, made with fingers, pop tarts, cookies, as well as water pistols?
