Maldives Are So Concerned About Hotcoldwetdry That They Built Their 11th Airport

This one comes via a favorite of all Warmist, James Delingpole

(Breitbart) Great news from the scuba-diving tropical paradise Maldives. They’ve just opened another airport.

This means that the Indian Ocean island nation now has four international airports and seven domestic ones. Quite a lot for a country with a population of less than 400,000. Presumably they have high hopes for their tourist industry as they develop luxury resorts on ever more remote atolls.

I wonder if these Maldives realise just how lucky they are. For, by weird coincidence, in pretty much the same geographic region is another island nation with exactly the same name.

And this other Maldives is in deep trouble. Indeed, it is daily on the brink of disaster because of the constant threat that its low-lying coral atolls could be swamped by the rising sea levels caused by man-made climate change.

We know this because all the experts have been telling us so.

James provides lots and lots of examples of being told about the doom approaching the Maldives. Let’s not forget that former Maldives president, Mohamed Nasheen, had a documentary made about him, that is all about “climate change”, and has been running around the world (on fossil fueled planes) proclaiming doom for the Maldives, and that we need to save it from Hotcoldwetdry.

Luckily I have thought up a brilliant solution to this problem. Maybe the lucky Maldives (the thriving tourist paradise) could help the unlucky Maldives (the one about to be drowned by global warming) with money and material aid. Perhaps it could use its vast tourist revenues to mitigate against any problems caused by this terrible “climate change” thing. Perhaps it could use its 11 airports to help evacuate the other Maldives’ climate refugees.

Ever notice that those who complain about “climate change” the most seem to be the worst offenders?

Obama’s EPA Proposes New Rules For Truckers ‘Cause Climate Change

Mr. Obama’s unhinged EPA just got done proposing new rules for airplanes, which will raise costs not just for those who take fossil fueled flights, but every product that requires shipment by air (while Obama just ordered a new Air Force One). Now they want to raise the cost of living even more

(AP) The Obama administration on Friday proposed tough new standards to improve fuel efficiency and reduce carbon dioxide pollution from trucks and vans, the latest move by President Barack Obama to address global warming.

The new rules are designed to slash heat-trapping carbon emissions by 24 percent by 2027 while reducing oil consumption by up to 1.8 billion barrels over the lifetime of the vehicles sold under the rule.

Medium and heavy-duty vehicles account for about 20 percent of greenhouse gas emissions and oil use in the U.S. transportation sector, polluting the air and contributing to climate change. The trucks and vans comprise only 5 percent of vehicles on the road. (snip)

Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said the new rules would help the environment and the economy, as trucks use less fuel and shipping costs go down. Foxx called the rules “good news all around.”

You just know that the line was thrown in to attempt to ease fears over cost increases. Unfortunately, it’s not true. The cost of the trucks will increase, which will be passed on to consumers, much as it has with car fuel mandates.

Lets also consider that better MPG often means driving more, which would do nothing for CO2 output.

The leadership for American Trucking Association is all behind this, and, really, they have been pushing for more efficient trucks. Who wouldn’t? The same could be said in the consumer car sector, where many consumers want better MPG. The mandates, though, artificially push compliance which isn’t always good for the consumer

The proposed standards would cover model years 2021-2027 and apply to semi-trucks, large pickup trucks and vans, and all types and sizes of buses and work trucks, officials said.

The National Automobile Dealers Association and American Truck Dealers blasted the rule, saying it would add an average of nearly $12,000 to the cost of a new truck.

“Recent history has shown that mandates with underestimated compliance costs result in substantially higher prices for commercial vehicles, and force fleet owners and operators to seek out less-expensive and less fuel-efficient alternatives in the marketplace,” the groups said in a statement.

While the overall cost of living for citizens may only rise a tiny bit, particularly via shipping costs, you add these cost increases to all the other cost increases from other “climate change” rules and regs, and you start having some serious cost of living increases.

NY Times: Apologize For Slavery

A WEEK of absurdity around a confused racial con artist, and a massacre in a black church brings us to this: Today is the 150th anniversary of Juneteenth, when the last of the American slaves were told they were free. Now, to put it to good use, at a time when a post-racial era seems very much out of reach.

The first black man to live in the White House, long hesitant about doing anything bold on the color divide, could make one of the most simple and dramatic moves of his presidency: apologize for the land of the free being, at one time, the largest slaveholding nation on earth.

The Confederate flag that still flies on the grounds of the Statehouse in South Carolina, cradle of the Civil War, is a reminder that the hatred behind the proclaimed right to own another human being has never left our shores.

BTW, Phillip Klein makes a compelling case for why Conservatives should hate the Confederate flag.

An apology would not kill that hatred, but it would ripple, positively, in ways that may be felt for years.

The Big Question is, would this actually solve anything?

Conservatives would caw — they always do — and say, get over it, don’t play the race card. Liberals would complain that a simple apology did not go far enough, unless it entailed reparations for the descendants of slaves. But words of contrition — a formal acknowledgment of a grievous wrong by a great nation — have a power all their own.

Another Big Question: would it hurt to offer a national apology?

Countries, religions and corporations sometimes do awful things in their names. It doesn’t diminish them to note their failures, their injustices, their crimes against humanity. It elevates them.

Maybe Democrats should apologize for all they did to keep Blacks in shackles, how they instituted Jim Crow and segregation policies and laws, opposed the Civil Rights laws, then decided to simply treat Blacks as an interest group, followed by policies that have left them poor and living in ghettos. OK, a bit off subject.

It’s harder to be contrite than to conquer. Obama had nothing to do with slavery. Most Americans, descendants of immigrants shunned in their homelands, have very little connection to the slaveholders of the American South. So why apologize? Because we own this past. As such, we have to condemn it.

Would this be worthwhile, or simply a waste of words? The majority of citizens had nothing to do with slavery. Few of our descendents were slave owners, and a good chunk of our descendents weren’t even in the U.S. during the time of slavery. Would a national apology help? Would it be accepted? Would it allow the U.S. to move on? Or, would it demand more? Do Blacks, at least those who can directly trace their ancestry to a slave in the U.S., want an apology, and would they accept it?

There’s Totally No Sanctuary In Charleston Or Something

No Sanctuary in Charleston

ON Wednesday night, while my son watched TV, I logged on to Facebook to check my friends’ updates. Immediately I saw a post about a shooting at Emanuel A.M.E., a historic black church in downtown Charleston that is a stone’s throw from my office at the College of Charleston. I made my son turn from his show to the news coverage. We stayed up and discussed what had happened. I prayed that I didn’t know anyone who had died, but I did.

Today Charleston, nicknamed the Holy City, is in mourning. We are still dealing with last month’s shooting of an unarmed black man in a northern suburb, and in the hours since this latest shooting, many of us in the African-American community were left asking: Is there any sanctuary left?

Five years ago, my ex-husband and I jumped at the chance to leave the violence of Chicago’s South Side to forge a life in a safer, culturally rich community. In hopes of a better life, we eagerly joined the numbers of other African-Americans “returning” south in a wave of reverse migration.

And for a while things were good. But then Trayvon Martin was gunned down in Florida, and almost instantly black people seemed to be under attack. Then came the police shootings of Michael Brown, Tamir Rice and Walter Scott — just a few miles away, in North Charleston — revealing the threat of violence we face every day. And this month we saw the footage of teenagers being manhandled by the police in Texas and Ohio.

Interesting. Everything’s Super Bad. Of course, Charleston has a crime index of 25, meaning that it is safer than 25% of US cities. There is just a 1 in 568 chance of being a victim of a violent crime, with just 1.86 violent crimes per 1,000. The national rate is 3.8. Property crime is right around the national median.

Chicago has a crime index of 11. The chance of being a victim of a violent crime is 1 in 111, with a rate of 9.0 per 1,000. Property crime is 8 points over the national average.

For me, last night’s events signal several visceral truths. One, that we African-Americans have no sanctuary. Charleston is a wonderful city, but in some very real ways, my children are no safer here than they were in Chicago.

No, they are very much safer in Charleston. It is less of a liberal city, one which believes in law and order, and, let’s face it, one which has not achieved majority-minority status yet.

This daily threat of terror does not exist within a vacuum. It looms within the growing prison-industrial state, against the backdrop of school-reform debates, our slow movement toward gun reform and the political maneuvers by Republicans to make it increasingly more difficult for poor people and minorities to vote. The reality that our civil rights are under attack is just as heavy as our fear for our lives.

Do you know what is a threat? 50% of the violent crime is perpetrated by a race that represents just under 14% of the population.

That means committing ourselves, as the black community, to fixing the systemic barriers — in education, employment and housing — to black upward mobility that make it virtually impossible for poor African-American children to ever catch up with their white counterparts.

Then teach your kids to take learning seriously, rather than thinking “that’s white”. Teach them respect. Teach them to avoid violence. Teach them about family. Tell them to put away the hardcore rap which extols violence and treating women like whores. Teach them about working hard, rather than being on the government dole. Most violence against Blacks is perpetrated by Blacks, what is termed “Black in origin” crime. Teach them that rioting, looting, and violence in their own neighborhoods is a great way to make sure no one wants to ever invest in the community. Eric Holder stated that we can’t be cowards when it comes to discussing race. Blacks need to take the initiative to clean their own house, rather than just blamestorming. Personally, I refuse to take any blame anymore.

We Can Totally Solve Climate Change With Humor

Is the topic of climate change too hot for people to handle? Maybe we need to throw some humor into the mix

It’s naturally hard to see that glimmer of hope behind the giant shroud of depressing facts, so maybe it’s time to make the facts a little less depressing. A fantastic way to do this is with humor (or as some of you call it, “humour”).

By interjecting some ‘funny’ into the climate change debate, we can prove the science true, make fun of its objectors and make it easier to understand at such an imperative time. Because while the battle to save our planet must be won with action, we need to make the topic of climate change more approachable for people to take that action – and humor is a pretty good tool.

25 years of spreading awareness, unhinged Nuttbaggery, derangement, die ins, videos where kids head’s explode, et, and now they want humor?

Bummer: Humans Will Be Extinct In 100 Years ‘Cause Climate Change

Another unhinged prognostication from the Cult Of Climastrology, in which the climate apocalypse (yes, that phrase is used in the article) is a sure thing

Humans will be extinct in 100 years because the planet will be uninhabitable, according to Australian microbiologist Frank Fenner, one of the leaders of the effort to eradicate smallpox in the 1970s. He blames overcrowding, denuded resources and climate change.

Fenner’s prediction is not a sure bet, but he is correct that there is no way emissions reductions will be enough to save us from our trend toward doom. And there doesn’t seem to be any big global rush to reduce emissions, anyway. When the G7 called on Monday for all countries to reduce carbon emissions to zero in the next 85 years, the scientific reaction was unanimous: That’s far too late.

Fenner told The Australian he tries not to express his pessimism because people are trying to do something, but keep putting it off. He said he believes the situation is irreversible, and it is too late because the effects we have had on Earth since industrialization (a period now known to scientists unofficially as the Anthropocene) rivals any effects of ice ages or comet impacts.

If it’s too late, why do anything? We can just act like Cult of Climastrology members, who refuse to give up their own use of fossil fuels and have huge carbon footprints.

Easter Island is famous for its massive stone statues. Polynesian people settled there, in what was then a pristine tropical island, around the middle of the first millennium AD. The population grew slowly at first and then exploded. As the population grew the forests were wiped out and all the tree animals became extinct, both with devastating consequences. After about 1600 the civilization began to collapse, and had virtually disappeared by the mid-19th century. Evolutionary biologist Jared Diamond said the parallels between what happened on Easter Island and what is occurring today on the planet as a whole are “chillingly obvious.”

Not mentioned is that the collapse and disappearance occurred during the Little Ice Age. Humanity doesn’t do all that well during Holocene cool periods, while it thrives during warm periods. Back to the original source

And no possible treaty that emerges from the current United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Bonn, Germany, in preparation for November’s United Nations climate conference in Paris, will be sufficient. At this point, lowering emissions is just half the story — the easy half. The harder half will be an aggressive effort to find the technologies needed to reverse the climate apocalypse that has already begun.

Hmm, so, more Big Government dominance and control, implementation of draconian rules, regulations, and laws to reign in emissions. As to the second part, that would be fine. Why not do that prior to blowing up the entire economy of the world?

For years now, we have heard that we are at a tipping point. Al Gore warned us in An Inconvenient Truth that immediate action was required if we were to prevent global warming. In 2007, Sir David King, former chief scientific advisor to the British government, declared, “Avoiding dangerous climate change is impossible – dangerous climate change is already here. The question is, can we avoid catastrophic climate change?” In the years since, emissions have risen, as have global temperatures. Only two conclusions can be drawn: Either these old warnings were alarmist, or we are already in far bigger trouble than the U.N. claims. Unfortunately, the latter seems to be the case.

Except for the pesky Pause thingy. Darned nature keeps getting in the way of the Narrative.

Why Is Charleston Shooter Called Mentally Deranged, Rather Than Thug Or Terrorist?

It’s an interesting question, as discussed in the USA Today

One hundred and forty characters isn’t nearly enough to unravel the politics of mass violence, to expound on America’s history of institutionalized racism, or to dissect the inconsistencies perceived in the way we talk about both.

But it’s more than enough to make us pause. It’s more than enough for a collective vent. And after Dylann Roof, who is white, allegedly opened fire Wednesday in a South Carolina church and killed nine black people, Twitter users exploded over what they saw as disparities in attitude and language the news media use to categorize violence.

The thesis of many was clear: White privilege persists, even in the coverage of heinous crimes. Users lamented that when a suspect is black, they’re often labeled a “thug” or a “gangster.” When they’re Muslim, they’re stamped a “terrorist.” When they’re white. they’re afforded the far more benign pathology of “troubled” or “mentally ill.”

The article provides many instances of people questioning the meme, starting with

There are more than enough outlets and pundits which quickly branded Roof as mentally ill and/or a troubled loner. In reality, it depends on the situation. Quite a few of the Blacks who have been in the news as of late were thugs, living the thug life. Many have had long criminal histories. Context matters. Labels matter. If a middle class Black person kills someone, which happens, it just doesn’t make national news, he/she won’t be labeled a thug. What we can say is that roof is a big time racist, a conspiracy theorist, and, yes, this was terrorism, as this was a violent episode meant for political purposes.

That said, we should note two points: first, virtually every time an Islamist, the hardcore type of Muslim, is engaged in a terroristic act, they are quickly dubbed lone wolf or wolves, and we are told that this has absolutely nothing to do with Islam. In fact, the person(s) isn’t really practicing Islam!!!!!!! Even when they tell us they did this for their faith.

Second, why is that the entire White race is blamed, and all Whites have to check their privilege, when something like this happens? But we aren’t allowed to Blame Islam, and to even mention that the Islamists are a part of Islam is verboten. Nor are we allowed to Blame Black culture in any measure.

But, it is seemingly perfectly acceptable to blame all Whites for the criminal acts of one person/group. Oh, hey, wouldn’t that mean all Democrats are virulent racists, then?

The Royal Society Of Climastrology: The Pause Would Have To Last 50 Years For Us To Maybe Believe We Are Wrong

(Breitbart) Attending a speech on climate change in the House of Lords, the Welsh Tory MP spoke about on his surreal experience meeting two men from the Royal Society whom he said had been sent to persuade him and fellow climate realists Peter Lilley MP and John Redwood MP to embrace the idea of man-made climate change. He said that representatives from the Society – often lauded as the most eminent grouping of scientists, founded in the 1600s – told him that they would not change their mind for at least fifty years, regardless of the evidence. (snip)

Speaking of the ‘hiatus’ in global warming that has been observed since the end of the 20th century, and the doubt that it has cast on climate change modelling – points which had been discussed at length at the Global Warming Policy Foundation event – Davies remarked:

“They had two guys whose job it was to go around and persuade everyone that we’re all trying the ruin the economy.

“We pinned them down on this hiatus… they were arguing that yes, there might have been a hiatus, but warming might be going into the ocean, or it could be due to volcanic activity. So we asked at what point would you begin to accept there had been no warming. If there is no warming for five years, or ten years?

“Finally they conceded they would wait fifty years.

“We asked would that be fifty years from now, or fifty years from 1997, when the hiatus started? They said they wouldn’t change their mind for fifty years from now.

“Effectively, we’re all going to be dead before the Royal Society admits they’ve got their facts wrong. There could be absolutely no warming every year for the next fifty years, and the Royal Society would still maintain that climate change is a major problem”.

Of course, even if the Pause lasted another 50 years, Warmists would still find all sorts of intricate excuses. If the world entered another Holocene cool period, the Cult of Climastrology would blame that on Mankind. Why? Again, this whole movement has nothing to do with science, it is about pushing a far left Progressive (nice fascist) agenda, which would include greater and greater control of people, private entities, and economies.
