Do you have some sort of device that uses a female voice to speak at you? Well, then you’re part of sexism
Digital sexism: Why are all virtual assistants women?
It’s 2017, and our most cutting edge consumer technology is a throwbackWhy are virtual assistants from Amazon, Google and Apple all “female”?
Technically speaking, of course, virtual assistants don’t have genders. But they do have names and voices that suggest to users they are more “female” than “male” — a characterization that reinforces some of the worst gender stereotypes in our society.
Amy Ingram, an AI personal assistant, is a popular corporate version produced by x.ai. If you carbon copy Amy on an email, she will help schedule a meeting: she introduces herself to the recipient as your personal assistant, suggests times when you’re available and follows up with a calendar invitation to confirm.
Whereas Amy has entered the workforce, Amazon’s bot, Alexa, is primarily a home assistant. You can call out to her to set timers when making dinner, and have her reorder detergent when you realize you’ve run out. She can dim the lights at night, or read you the news headlines in the morning. Alexa’s appeal is that she’s always a holler away: all you need to do is ask.
You know what this means, right?
Companies cite all sorts of research in their decision to make bots female. They claim we take orders better from women, and that people have shown a preference for female voices in automated systems. Clifford Nass, the late co-author of Wired for Speech, a widely cited book on the topic, argued that male voices are perceived as being more authoritative, whereas female voices are understood to be more helpful and supportive. These preconceptions carry over into synthetic voices, which essentially means that even computers are gender stereotyped.
Why does this matter? Because it reinforces a power dynamic that we simply can’t overlook: virtual assistants are designed to be subservient, and creators send a clear message by making them all “female.”

The thing is, these Social Justice Warriors, such as Ramona Pringle, who wrote this bit of insanity for the uber-leftist CBC, are 100% serious. They aren’t trolling you. They don’t write this then sit around at home laughing at all the fools who are agreeing with this and making fun of it. They mean it. This is their world view.
The irony is that as we watch shows like Mad Men and quietly congratulate ourselves on how far we’ve evolved as a society, our most cutting-edge consumer technology is a throwback: one where our “secretaries,” “sous-chefs” and “housekeepers” are women. And by falling into a trap of assuming users want “female” assistants — instead of challenging their biases — the industry that has appointed itself to design the future is perpetuating outdated gender norms.
It’s not a joke. It’s not satire.
The funny part, as so many in the story comments point out, is that these female voices are telling people what to do. Turn here. Turn there. You’re speeding. They’re the ones with the information, and we listen to what they say. How’s that for female empowerment?

That headline? It’s not hyperbole
Paris vehicle pollution sticker scheme comes into force
Police checks last week found only one in 50 vehicles stopped had sticker despite them being available since July
Drivers in Paris must display an anti-pollution sticker in their vehicles or face fines in the latest attempt by the French authorities to improve air quality.
The sticker scheme, which became mandatory on Monday, includes cars, lorries, motorcycles and scooters, and bans some vehicles from the city during weekdays.
It follows numerous spikes in pollution in which smog has descended over the French capital, forcing traffic reduction measures and the introduction of free public transport on the worst days.
The six different coloured Crit’Air (air criteria) stickers indicate the age and cleanliness of a vehicle. Certain vehicles – including petrol and diesel cars registered before 1996; vans registered before 1997; pre-2000 scooters and motorbikes; and lorries, trucks and buses from before 2001 – are banned from the city between 8am and 8pm.
Now, part of this is understandable. The air pollution being considered isn’t just CO2, but other pollutants, such as lead. Wait, lead? Yes, the story mentions lead. But, leaded fuels have already been banned.
But, really, to have police officers doing this? Really? Perhaps they could be more concerned with things like cars being torched by “youths” (meaning young Muslim illegal aliens), violence (from the same), terrorism (from the same), sexual assaults (from the same), and just ordinary crime

Here’s where it gets more interesting
City hall plans include closing roads to traffic and pedestrianising areas of the capital as well as an eventual ban on all diesel vehicles.
Wait, weren’t we told that diesel vehicles were super awesome? Of course, we saw what happened with Volkswagen and their emissions cheating, and the EPA just slapped Fiat Chrysler for doing the same on two different models. Well, in the article right next to the green police one, we learn
Oslo will ban diesel cars from the road for at least two days this week to combat rising air pollution, angering some motorists after they were urged to buy diesel cars a few years ago.
Huh.
You know who is hurt the most by all this? Poor people who cannot afford the luxury of a State Approved Green Vehicle.
…is a see that will soon completely change its pattern and rise dozens of feet, you might just be a Warmist

How’s that hope and change working out?
(NJ.com)Â The greatest terrorism threat facing New Jersey is likely already here, according to an annual counter-terrorism report that found domestic attacks across the U.S. were on the rise.
The 2017 “threat assessment” from the state Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness ranks homegrown violent extremists as the single-highest threat to the New Jersey, months after the Garden State saw its first major terror attack since 9/11 with bombings allegedly carried out by an Elizabeth resident.
Chris Rodriguez, the office’s director, said that incident shows “the public is really on the front lines” in an era of lone wolf assaults.
The report, which was declassified and released by the office on Tuesday, found homegrown violent extremists — defined as those inspired by foreign extremist groups but radicalized in the countries where they live — were the only category presenting a “high” threat level to the state.
Remember all the freakout about the “Sovereign Citizen” movement, and concerns about attacks on Muslims and the gender confused and such? Remember when the DOJ painted Conservatives as dangers? Well, the people we told you were a danger, those who become hardcore radical Islamists, are still the danger.
John Cohen, a Rutgers University professor and former official at the federal Department of Homeland Security, told NJ Advance Media the report’s findings are “in line with what we’re seeing nationally.”
“Today the most significant threat facing the U.S. is people who are inspired by extreme ideology, willing to commit mass murder on behalf of that ideology, but unconnected to any specific terrorism organization,” he said.
Of course, he tries to white wash it
They are often “ideologically ignorant,” meaning they have only a surface-level understanding of the politics or religion they espouse, he said. They may have “behavioral or mental health issues.” And they act alone.
And that’s why this grows, because certain people refuse to see what’s in front of their eyes.
BTW, this is just NJ, a hotbed of Progressive ideology.

Just imagine that a left wing group had published video like the following: there would be Force 10 Apoplexy from Democrats and their compliant media
(Daily Caller) Video released on Monday by James O’Keefe of Project Veritas purports to show a group of left wing activists plotting to use butyric acid stink bombs to disrupt a pro-Donald Trump inauguration event.
The edited video shows three members of the D.C. Anti-Fascist Coalition discussing releasing stink bombs in the HVAC system of the National Press Club, where a pro-Trump event dubbed Deploraball will be held on Thursday.
The coalition is part of a network of left wing groups that plan to disrupt various Trump inauguration events. A group operating with the hashtag #DisruptJ20 plans to destroy property, carry out blockades and sow other chaos leading up to the inauguration. (RELATED: Inauguration Protesters Plan To Destroy Property, Disrupt Balls)
In the video, which was recorded last month, a coalition member named Scott Green explains what he hoped to achieve by using the butyric acid. The stink bombs would “ruin [event attendees’] outfits or otherwise make it impossible to continue with their plans. Make sure they get nothing accomplished,†he says in the video.
There should be no surprise that Leftist groups have these plans. There are surely many, many more that haven’t been caught. You can see the video at the Daily Caller link or Project Veritas. The information and full videos were given to the anti-terrorist law enforcement and the Secret Service.
Remember when there were all sorts of Right leaning groups attempting to utterly disrupt Obama’s inauguration? That’s right, we didn’t bother.
Elsewhere, a biker group is promising a “wall of meat” to keep the unhinged leftist protesters at bay.

Ever since the election results came in, Democrats have been the ultimate sore losers, and the Washington Post’s Dana Milbank has been a participant. He’s attempted to mansplain the woman card to Kellyanne Conway. He’s whined numerous times about Russia. He’s stated that the election was rigged. He’s essentially been a sore loser. Now we get
Trump gets no respect. That’s because he hasn’t earned it.
Kellyanne Conway is walking a Dangerfield line.
“We got no forbearance. We got nothing. We got no respect,†the Trump strategist told CNN’s Anderson Cooper last week, complaining about media coverage of her boss. “This man is president of the United States!â€
Conway raises a fair question: Why hasn’t the president-elect been given more respect?
Here’s a fair answer: He hasn’t earned any.
It wouldn’t matter, because people like Milbank, 100% in the pocket of the Democratic Party, wouldn’t give any even if Trump was pushing Progressive issues and policies.
To Trump’s many self-assigned superlatives, he can now add another: the sorest winner. With charity for none and with malice toward all but his supporters, he has in the past two months set a new standard for gracelessness in victory.
What Milbank is upset about is that Trump is doing exactly what Democrats have been doing for decades: attacking. And, Trump is refusing to back down when attacked. Democrats in the media, meaning about 90% of those who work in the news media, expect Republicans to simply sit there and take it, saying nary a word. Which is what Republicans have been doing for decades.
The Republican base has pleaded with Republicans to fight back. No matter whether they are quiet or attack back, they are damned by the news media. So, they might as well attack back. George W. Bush almost never responded, to the point that his administration barely defended their own policies. It got to a point that GOP pundits became tired of attempting to defend what Bush wouldn’t.
Now, Trump is showing the Democrats and their compliant media that he’s willing to play their game, that he’s no patsy who will just sit there and take it with a grin. Trot out John Lewis and proclaim him off limits for things he did almost a half century ago? Trump doesn’t care. There will be no “ultimate moral authority” figures. You get back what you offer.
Get used to that. Trump knows the game, and, like him, hate him, agnostic about him, he won’t be sitting back while Democrats run roughshod.
The losers often have hard feelings after elections. But this much enmity from the winner is extraordinary. Trump, after his election-night promise to “bind the wounds of division†and be a “president for all Americans,†never attempted reconciliation. A day later, he falsely condemned “professional protesters, incited by the media,†and at year end he taunted opponents via Twitter: “Happy New Year to all, including to my many enemies and those who have fought me and lost so badly they just don’t know what to do. Love!â€
The tweet was lame, but, that’s Trump. Funny that Milbank had no complaints over Obama attacking citizens, saying “he won” to Republicans, castigating John McCain after the election, using the IRS to assault Conservative citizen groups, and never attempting to bring the country together. And let’s not forget all the allies and world leaders he insulted and threw under the bus.
If the Sore Losers want Trump to be a good winner, then they shouldn’t start things. As the ancient Tibetan Philosophy states “Don’t start none, won’t be none!
