We Don’t Deny Harvey, So We Shouldn’t Deny Hotcoldwetdry Or Something

Over at the NY Times, Excitable Nicholas Kristoff is rather vexed by Harvey and ‘climate change’

We don’t deny Harvey, so why do we deny climate change?

Imagine that after the 9/11 attacks, the conversation had been limited to the tragedy in Lower Manhattan, the heroism of rescuers and the high heels of the visiting first lady — without addressing the risks of future terrorism.

Can I point out that this is exactly what Democrats and Progressives around the world actually did? Minimize and even eradicate the threat from radical Islam in the name of diversity and tolerance and multiculturalism and stuff. Oh, and the idiots talking about Melania’s heels? Democrats.

That’s how we have viewed Hurricane Harvey in Houston, as a gripping human drama but without adequate discussion of how climate change increases risks of such cataclysms. We can’t have an intelligent conversation about Harvey without also discussing climate change.

Hey, I’m all for a discussion on climate change. Because it is happening. That’s not the debate. The debate is on causation. But, as you would expect, Excitable Nick goes down the typical Warmist holes, he does blame this specifically on man-caused climate change, blah blah blah, same old same old, while ignoring the meteorological aspects of what made it so bad, namely, two strong blocking high pressure systems.

There’s little point in continuing, you know what Nick is doing. Let’s ask scientist Cliff Mass

Dozens of mainstream media outlets ran stories over the last week attributing the very strong storm and its historic rainfall to climate change, but University of Washington atmospheric scientist Cliff Mass put the brakes on those theories in a new blog post.

“Most of the stories were not based on data or any kind of quantitative analysis, but a hand-waving argument that a warming earth will put more water vapor into the atmosphere and thus precipitation will increase,” he wrote. “[T]he results are clear: human-induced global warming played an inconsequential role in this disaster.”

He explained: “The proximate cause of the disaster is clear: the extreme rainfall was the result of a hurricane/tropical storm that pulled in huge amounts of water vapor off the Gulf of Mexico (and beyond), and which came into the Texas coast and then stalled for days. All tropical storms/hurricanes bring large amounts of rain during landfall. What was different here was the stalling and sitting over the same region for days.”

And, let’s consider

It’s kinda like how an 18+ year period of insignificant warming means nothing, but, the same period of warming is everything….oh, wait, like snow, cold, etc, that 12 year period will soon be made into having been caused by you refusing to set your air conditioning to 85.

Chicago Sun Times: Let Grandmas And Dreamers Stay Or Something

When it comes to people being unlawfully present in the United States, trespassing, if you will, there is always an excuse (much like so many things in Liberal World). There’s always some reason not to deport an illegal alien. Even when it comes to those who have committed actual crimes, when the rubber meets the road, the pro-illegal forces find a reason to be squishy. Here comes the Editorial Board of the Chicago Sun Times

EDITORIAL: Let Grandma from Berwyn and Dreamers stay, President Trump

President Donald Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions brag about their immigration crackdown. They’re going after dangerous criminal aliens, they say, who threaten national security and our nation’s sovereignty.

What they don’t say is they’re going after Grandma. They are deporting people like Genoveva Ramirez, a 67-year-old grandmother of 10 from Berwyn whose only crime in nearly two decades of living in the United States was to drive without a valid license.

And the crackdown could get worse. Young adults and teenagers who already have passed thorough federal government background checks could be next. A five-year-old program to protect them from deportation and allow them to work legally could be rescinded by Trump any day.

Ramirez became entangled in the government’s deportation net in 2013 when a police officer in DuPage County detained her after a traffic stop….

Sessions and Trump also say they’re going after all who are here in violation of federal law. As for Ramirez, she was, first, illegally in the U.S. Second, driving without a license is a bigger deal than you think. Having one doesn’t mean you are a good driver (as we can all tell while driving around, am I right?), but, it does mean you are authorized by the government to operate what is a multi-ton machine of death, and are able to know the rules of the road. A motor vehicle which can harm and kill other people. It is a safety method. In every state, if you get too many points, the license will be pulled for a period of time. Pass a stopped school bus? Eight points in NC, a $500 fine for first offense, and you’ll see your insurance go up.

Regardless, Ramirez has been under an order of deportation since 2013 (under Obama). She’s been told to self deport within two months or federal authorities will escort her. Why? Because, and I know this is a hard concept for many to understand, she violated federal law and is unlawfully present in the U.S. That can’t be repeated enough. There are penalties for breaking the law. People shouldn’t be rewarded for breaking the law.

We can’t imagine why the federal government is burning time and money trying to deport Ramirez and folks like her. And where’s the heart and wisdom in ending the deferred action program for teens and younger adults known as Dreamers?

Can anyone else see why Los Federales are doing this? Raise your hand. Yes, you. That’s right, good answer. Because it is the job of the federal government to catch and deport those who they weren’t able to stop from coming into the country illegally/overstaying visas. Why is this concept so hard for some to understand?

As for the deferred action program, it isn’t within the authority of the Executive Branch to make law. Furthermore, why reward lawless actions? It incentivizes others to come illegally. And, of course, the way DACA works, since the kids aren’t being deported, it means the parents, grandparents, cousins, friends, etc aren’t deported. There’s always an excuse.

The president says uncounted numbers of “racists” and “murderers” have illegally entered our country.

So fine, go after the rapists and murderers, and leave Grandma and the kids alone.

Of course, in the next breath we’ll hear that local, county, and state law enforcement shouldn’t be involved in detaining and holding these illegals, that detainers are racist and mean, and that we should spend oodles of time and money giving these rapists and murderers their weeks and months in court. You can’t win with these illegal alien supporters, they will always find a way to support any and all illegals.

Car Crashes Now Blamed On ‘Climate Change’

I know, I know, you’re totally surprised by this. What’s most shocking is it took them this long

Study Blames Global Warming, Not Cell Phones, For Spike In Car Accident Deaths

Global warming was responsible for thousands of road deaths in 2015, according to a new study, contradicting many public safety experts who blame increased cell phone use for the spike in traffic fatalities.

“As temperatures continue to increase from heat-trapping gases in the atmosphere, road deaths will likely increase more than expected unless there are major mitigating countermeasures,” retired Yale University epidemiologist Leon Robertson said in a statement.

What the study attempts to do is blame the warmth and rain for more people being on the road

“If millions more people drive cars because the temperature is getting warmer … then that adds up to a lot of miles,” Robertson told the Thomson Reuters Foundation. “Mainly it’s a simple multiplication.”

Or, hey, it could be that there are more drivers. Shocking notion, eh?

The Transportation Department, however, said human factors were to blame for most of the traffic deaths in 2015. Human factors include drunk driving, distracted driving — which includes cell phone use — and speeding.

The department also found “[vehicle miles traveled] and the average monthly temperature had strong, positive relationships with the number of fatalities, meaning that more fatalities tended to occur when more driving was done, and also when weather was warmer.”

You also add in that gas prices are down. So, yes, people do tend to get out and about when it is warmer. Is that anything unusual? But, the nutters are specifically blaming “carbon pollution” for warming, and, there’s a wee bit of a problem with blaming anthropogenic global warming, or, heck, natural global warming

Huh.

Hot Take: Harvey Is A Harbinger Of ‘Climate Change’ Or Something

The last major hurricane prior to Harvey that made landfall on the Lower 48 was way back in October, 2005, the longest period between major storms on record for the U.S. You can count on one hand the number of hurricanes that have made landfall since 2008, which is well below average. Even tropical storms making landfall is below average. Tornado and thunderstorm activity is down. But, we get this bit of insanity from The Desert Sun’s Sammy Roth, published in the USA Today

Hurricane Harvey: Yet another harbinger of climate change

If you watched the images of Hurricane Harvey from afar and thanked goodness it wasn’t happening to you, scientists say you might be feeling a little too relaxed.

Powerful storms are hitting the U.S. more often — and not just in hurricane alley.

Rising global temperatures, caused mostly by the burning of fossil fuels, have coincided with an increase in extreme storms across the United States, according to the federal government’s latest National Climate Assessment, published in 2014.

But, out here in Reality Land, they haven’t. And, believe it or not, storms have always happened on Planet Earth. Weird concept, eh?

The planet has warmed by nearly 2 degrees since the dawn of the Industrial Revolution, which translates to about 6% more moisture in the atmosphere, said Michael Wehner, a climate scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory’s computational research division in California.

Except, it’s only been a 1.4 to 1.5 Fahrenheit increase. This is science. Precision matters. Not fearmongering. Furthermore, it’s rather expected that the temperatures go up during a Holocene warm period.

Some regions have been hit especially hard. Between 1958 and 2012, the number of extreme rainfall events increased by 71% in the Northeast, 37% in the Midwest and 27% in the Southeast. Scientists point to last year’s record-shattering rain in and around Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and 2013’s deadly floods on Colorado’s Front Range, as the kinds of events climate change has already made more likely.

Interestingly, the period of 1958 to 1978 was one of cooling (actually going back into the 1940’s), and 1997-2015 was a pause period, meaning most of this happened while the temperatures weren’t going up (in contradiction of Warmist computer models). The problem here, though, is that there are not specific records to make proper comparisons between the time periods, especially when we are talking about the satellite era. Doesn’t matter, Warmists have a Narrative.

“The extremely heavy rains of Harvey are something that we expect to see more often as the dice are loaded toward heavier rain events,” said Radley Horton, a climate scientist at Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.

Of course, the extreme rainfall was simply due to weather conditions: a hurricane in the Gulf Of Mexico during peak summer being blocked by two high pressure ridges. This is weather, not climate. But, then, the Cult of Climastrology just doesn’t care about facts and science in their quest for more taxes and fees to go with more big government control of everything. Interestingly, these idiots never seem to realize that they themselves will suffer personally. They think all the bad things from their policies will affect Someone Else.

Good News: Many Elected Republicans Support Keeping DACA

What’s the point of electing Republicans if they won’t keep their campaign promises? What’s the point in electing Republicans as the law and order party if they won’t uphold the law?

GOP leaders join clamor to retain ‘dreamers’ program for immigrants

House Speaker Paul D. Ryan and other Republicans on Friday urged President Trump not to rescind an Obama-era program that allowed hundreds of thousands of immigrants to stay in the country legally, reflecting fears among some GOP leaders that his decision could be politically damaging for the party.

The entreaties came as Trump neared a decision on whether to dismantle the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which has provided two-year work permits to nearly 800,000 immigrants known as “dreamers” who have been in the country illegally since they were children.

What political damage are they concerned with? The Dreamers can’t vote. Neither can their parents. Because they are unlawfully present in the United States. Oh, right, they’re worried about the media, of which 90% votes Democrat, being mean to them, which would happen no matter what. If they’re so worried about DACA, well, they should put a bill up for vote in the House and Senate. Instead, they want to keep a program that is, for all purposes, backdoor amnesty. Besides all the ones who get green cards, the Dreamers can keep applying for renewal again and again and again. Which means their parents, the ones who even Democrats admit committed the crime, get to stay.

Trump is expected to make his announcement Tuesday.

Speculation has mounted among immigrant rights groups that Trump will begin to unwind the program, which President Barack Obama created in 2012 through executive action. But the late-stage opposition from some top Republicans — as well as from hundreds of major corporations such as Facebook, Google and Apple — has raised the pressure on Trump to preserve it.

So, lots of Leftist corporations want to keep it? We’re supposed to listen to them?

Paul Ryan is yammering about fixing this legislatively. Well, he needs to put up or shut up. Show us the legislation, let’s see how bad it is.

(Mediaite) On Friday night, Tucker Carlson went after Republicans who have expressed their support to keep the Obama-era DACA policy intact.

“Almost ten months into the Republican Congress, top Republicans on Capitol Hill have finally found an issue they can really rally around: preserving President Obama‘s immigration policies,” he began.

Carlson specifically called out Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) for drafting amnesty legislation he himself calls a “conservative alternative” to DACA, which reportedly would give 2.5 million illegal immigrants a pathway to citizenship.

“We’re supposed to believe that this is the ‘conservative’ position, but the only thing it conserves is President Obama’s policy priorities,” Carlson said.

It’s time to primary these Republicans. We did not elect them to provide amnesty.

I just enabled SSL for the site, after having it up in my backup site for a few weeks. In essence, all the URLs will be https, instead of http. In my WordPress admin panel, it is fully secure, but, some stuff in the actual site will cause the security check to have mixed content, because many things are from the outside, and some is old.

Firefox, Chrome, and many other browsers are kinda forcing this for websites, otherwise you get insecure warnings (like Hillary’s server). You shouldn’t notice any issues, but, if you do, hit me up at my Twitter.

Good News: We Can Send An Old Man To Jail For Digging A Hole

When government gets to big, and, remember, regardless of your politics, this could end up being you (unless your name is Hillary Clinton)

(Daily Caller)  A 78-year-old man imprisoned for digging two ponds in Montana, one on federal land and the other on private property, without a permit has appealed his sentence, according to the Pacific Legal Foundation (PLF).

Oral arguments for Joseph Robertson’s appeal began Tuesday in the Ninth Circuit court. Robertson is serving an 18 month sentence in a Colorado federal prison for violating the Clean Water Act and destroying federal property.

Robertson freely admits to digging the ponds, though he thought he was digging them both on private property when he began excavation. He takes issue with the federal government’s charge that his digging caused pollution in “waters of the U.S.” protected under the Clean Water Act. The nearest navigable river, the Jefferson, is 60 miles away, according to the Montana standard.

9th Circuit? He’s doomed.

Robertson and his supporters disagree that the wetlands around the ponds are a nexus and say the Clean Water Act’s definition of a “navigable water” is unconstitutionally vague and leads to violations of individuals property rights, according to the PLF.

“This is the government going too far,” local Montanan and Robertson’s friend Jim Buterbaugh told the Montana Standard. “He’s a mile away from the creek, so I don’t see where he’s going to be polluting since his ponds are groundwater ponds.”

So, we can send this old man to jail for this idiocy, yet, we aren’t allowed to deport illegal aliens who violated U.S. laws and sovereignty. Nor prosecute Hillary and her compatriots for violations of federal regulations, along with the Espionage Act.
