Trump Puts Decision On Big Game Hunting Imports On Hold

I’m hoping he puts the decision on permanent hold

(Free Beacon)  President Donald Trump said Friday he was putting a decision to reverse a ban on importing elephant trophies from two African countries on hold, saying he needed to review “all conservation facts.”

Trump added he would soon provide an update with Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke.

“Put big game trophy decision on hold until such time as I review all conservation facts. Under study for years. Will update soon with Secretary Zinke. Thank you!” Trump tweeted.

Good for him. Interestingly, though, the initial rule from 2014 stopped the import, but did not stop actual hunting of elephants. Furthermore, there was a finding in June, 2016 from Fish and Wildlife that would lift the import ban. Who was president then? And this was in the works ever since. They go through this and that and the other in attempt to defend it, and, really, it makes no difference, because, again, the 2014 ruled did not stop hunts.

Personally, I’d like to see Trump work out a way that sport hunting of elephants could be stopped altogether.

We Must Limit Our Economic Growth To Stop ‘Climate Change’ Or Something

Funny how so much of what climate scam cultists want is to knock the human race back hundreds and hundreds of years economically

Our addiction to growth is harming the climate
We must wean ourselves off unsustainable economic growth if we are to cut greenhouse gas emissions and avoid catastrophic climate change, say some economists. But what are the alternatives to growth?

Electing Leftists usually limits economic growth.

On the way home from work in your electric car, you stop off at the local discount store and pick up some beef for dinner. The meat was shipped in from Brazil to Germany. The land where the cow grazed was once rainforest. The nickel used in the car made its way from a polluting mine in the Philippines to a European assembly line.

Extracting, producing and shipping both products involved vast amounts of energy, resources, and greenhouse gas emissions. Taken in isolation, that’s not a big deal, you might think. But the scale of consumption — particularly in industrialized countries — and the the relentless pursuit of goods and services, is putting a huge strain on the planet’s ecosystems and atmosphere, say scientists.

In 2017, Earth Overshoot Day — the date when humanity spent Earth’s resource budget to live sustainably for the year — fell on August 2. In 1987, it landed on December 9. Today, we need 1.7 planets to meet our consumption demands — and that number could rise to two planets by 2030.

Unless we get that growth under control, not only will we be facing an “ecosystem collapse” due to the loss of species and conversion of land for industry and agriculture, we won’t be able to stop global warming, according to some economists.

You get the idea: these people hate people living a modern economic life. What to do?

In the US and Europe, the idea of “degrowth” — a movement around downsizing production and consumption, and moving the economy away from infinite expansion in a just and equitable way — is gaining traction.

That’s partly because of the growing gap between rich and poor. Part of the problem is that we measure society’s economic progress and well-being using Gross Domestic Product (GDP), say some economists.

Strange: I’m getting the idea that this whole ‘climate change’ movement is intertwined with all the other Statist/Progressive ideas. But, hey, if these climate scammers really believe this stuff, they should practice what they preach. Oh, wait…

On an individual level, “degrowthers” might choose not to fly or drive a car but they say environmental problems are not individual problems. Solutions must be political and community-based.

In other words, forcing everyone else to comply per government force.

French President Promises To Replace Lost U.S. Climate Scam Funds, Wants Green Tariffs

It’s always pretty easy for leaders in the Cult of Climastrology to promise Other People’s money, rather than reducing their own carbon footprint, wouldn’t you say?

(UK Independent) Emmanuel Macron has vowed to replace every dollar that is withdrawn from the UN’s climate change programme by Donald Trump.

The French President told a UN climate summit in Bonn, Germany, that France would step in to cover the cost of US contributions to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) that Mr Trump has said he will withdraw.

“I can guarantee that, starting in 2018, the IPCC will have all the money it needs and will continue to support our decision-making,” he said. “It will not miss a single euro.”

“We need scientific information that is constantly nourished to ensure clear decision making. The IPCC is one of the major components of this work.

“However, it is threatened today by the decision of the US not to guarantee funding for it. Therefore, I propose that the EU replaces the USA, and France will meet that challenge.”

Apparently, France is flush with enough cash to piss away billions of dollars (U.S.). It’s not like France’s economy is the worst of the big 3 in the EU. 1.2% economic growth for 2016, a 10% unemployment rate (24% for people 16-24), and a government debt which is 90% of GDP (which was 58% a decade ago). And there socialized health system is on the brink of collapse. But, hey, if France wants to give their money away, that’s on them. Or really, Macron telling them it’s on them.

In his speech, Mr Macron also called for an EU tariff on goods imported from countries or companies that do not share its climate goals, and pledged to work to raise the cost of carbon within the EU to €30 a tonne.

Obviously, this is aimed at the U.S. and Trump. But, good luck with that, Macron: Europe needs the U.S. trade more than the reverse, and it wouldn’t be pretty if the U.S. retaliated against E.U. goods.

The French President is hosting a conference in Paris next month on the issue of climate finance.

If Macron really cared, he’d have it via videoconference, rather than having tons of people taking fossil fueled trips from around the world a month after thousands and thousands took fossil fueled trips from around the world for the UN COP23 meeting.

Suddenly, NY Times Is Interested In The Line Between Sexual Assault And A Mistake

The NY Times has (mostly) long been on the Everything Is Sexual Assault bandwagon, and that the accuser is always right, should always believed, proof is not necessary, and the accused should have their life destroyed. Unless it was Bill Clinton (with Hillary as his enabler). Or Ted Kennedy. Or virtually any Democrat. Which is how we end up here

A Fresh Debate Over the Line Between Abuse and a Mistake

A day after the latest in a dizzying series of sexual assault revelations enveloped Senator Al Franken and rattled the Capitol, politicians and comedians were left trying to assess the line between predatory behavior and an inexcusable mistake, as calls mounted for him to resign. (snip – we know we he did)

But while there was no widespread public showing of support for Mr. Franken, a number of his allies, including three former “Saturday Night Live” colleagues and 10 former aides, all women, said that they did not believe his behavior fit a pattern or was in the same realm of misconduct as other high-profile men accused of sexual abuse in the entertainment industry, including the comedian Louis C. K. and the producer Harvey Weinstein.

“I’m just so upset about this atmosphere and good people being dragged into it,” said Jane Curtin, a member of the original cast of “Saturday Night Live” with Mr. Franken from 1975 to 1980 who has been close with him since. “It’s just like the red menace. You don’t know who’s going to be next.”

If she’s referring to the overall atmosphere where someone is hauled up in front of a kangaroo court at a college for an innocent kiss on the cheek, or accused of sexual assault months after the consensual sex occurred and not allowed legal representation or to face the accuser, well, yeah.

As Washington wrestled with how to categorize Mr. Franken’s behavior, which was accompanied by a photo that showed him appearing to grope Ms. Tweeden as she slept on a military plane, even some ardent defenders of women’s rights said the senator’s offense was not so grievous as to require his resignation.

“This is not a Harvey Weinstein situation,” said Debra Katz, a civil rights lawyer who handles sexual harassment cases. “Harvey Weinstein was a serial predator who used his power to put women in very vulnerable situations. He abused that power by sexually assaulting women. That’s not what this is.”

Ms. Katz also drew a distinction between Mr. Franken’s role as a comedian and that of a senator.

There are plenty of people mentioned along these lines in supporting Franken. And, they might have a point: where is that line between doing something stupid, being a jerk, or just making a mistake and sexual assault/harassment? I’ve written such on many websites in the comments. Let’s not forget, though, that this is a situation created by the hardcore, extremist Democratic Party base, where everyone is a Victim, and penalties must be extreme and harsh. According to SJW doctrine, even words are reason for personal destruction, and Franken has said some nasty things.

Also, let’s consider: if Franken was a Republican, would the NY Times and the people interviewed be so charitable? Remember, Democrats helped in the destruction of Larry Craig, whose offense was supposedly tapping the foot of another person while looking for consensual gay sex.

“He’s had unsavory jokes in the past that he’s regretted,” Ms. Volin Lehr said of Mr. Franken’s comedy career. She said the photo published Thursday fell into that category, “but it is hard to see how this is comparable to the other incidents that women have brought forward in the recent past.”

On one hand, Lehr is right. On the other, imagine Franken was a Republican. And there’s your answer.

Hey, Let’s Meet A “Soon To Be Un-Documented” Illegal Demanding We Accommodate Her

Yet another sob story

Meet Pamela, a soon-to-be-undocumented immigrant fighting to stay and contribute to the U.S.

Pamela Chomba, a 28-year-old New Jersey resident who’s been in the United States for 17 years, held her breath when President Donald Trump announced the end to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program in early September.

Her DACA status, a program that was never authorized by the duly elected legislative branch, ends in October 2018. How’s she contributing?

Two months after Trump wound down the program, Chomba is now asking lawmakers in Washington, D.C. to pursue legislation that makes her protections permanent. DACA has made her financially stable, first as a community organizer with then-Mayor Cory Booker (D-NJ) and now as the Northeast Organizing Director at FWD.US, a lobbying group that advocates for immigration reform. From now until her DACA status expires, Chomba aims to put pressure on lawmakers to understand the costs of inaction for individuals like her as well as for the U.S. economy as a whole.

Another worthless parasite doing “organizing” garbage, liked demanding that America acquiesce to her demands

Out of economic necessity, Chomba came to the country at the age of 11 with her parents and siblings from Lima, Peru back in 2001. Her parents overstayed their visas, but eventually fell out of status.

For Chomba, a permanent solution is crucial to keeping her family intact. Her parents are undocumented. She and a younger sibling are part of the 22,227 people in the state of New Jersey who have DACA. Her youngest brother is a U.S. citizen. She’s not alone. Roughly 500,000 undocumented immigrants in New Jersey live in a similar mixed-immigration status situation, according to 2014 data. Approximately 604,000 U.S. citizens in the state live with at least one undocumented family member.

And this is where the DACA argument breaks down, as I’ve discussed. Not only do the illegal “kids” demand legal status, but, they want it for all their family members, as well, who are often the ones who committed the “sin” of bringing the kids illegally. And not just for Dreamer “kids”, they want legal status for all the other illegals out there.

Losing workers like Chomba would also mean employers would have to find, retrain, and hire people who are just as effective as she has been. She has already thought of what it would mean for her employers at FWD.us once her DACA expires.

It’s not like “community agitator” is a serious help to the economy. Or a serious, grown up job.

“What gets me up every day is the passion from DREAMers,” Chomba said, her voice breaking. “That really gives me esperanza [Spanish for “hope”]…I think, when we win the DREAM Act, we will see this as one of the best moments that we’ve had in politics for a while because we’re finally looking back at ourselves and saying, ‘This is the country we want to be, that we welcome you.’ That’s what gets me up”

She apparently idolizes Michelle Obama, who didn’t like America very much till her husband won office. Chomba apparently doesn’t like America much because we have laws against lawbreakers like her.

Meanwhile, here’s another illegal, who took sanctuary in a church in New Orleans. He has two anchor babies, and apparently doesn’t speak English, even after being here for 14 years. He was busted on a DUI, and is now under a deportation order. Actions have consequences.

Pope Francis Denounces Skeptics Or Something

It’d be nice if Pope Francis was as concerned with radical Islam, the growth of abortion on demand, and other things rather than a scam

Pope Francis denounces climate change deniers

climate change joke

Pope Francis denounced those who deny global warming and urged negotiators at climate talks in Germany to avoid falling prey to such “perverse attitudes” and instead accelerate efforts to curb greenhouse gas emissions.

Francis issued a message Thursday to the Bonn meeting, which is working to implement the 2015 Paris accord aimed at capping global emissions.

In the message, Francis called climate change “one of the most worrisome phenomena that humanity is facing,” and urged negotiators to ignore special interests and political or economic pressures and instead engage in an honest dialogue about the future of the planet.

Interesting: it seems the Church is moving back to a time when it worked hand in hand with government to force acquiescence by citizens. Furthermore, what of all the special interest and stuff that are on the side of the climate scam? Like….Pope Francis!

He denounced that such efforts are often frustrated by those who deny climate change, are indifferent to it, or think it can only be solved by technical solutions.

“Technical solutions.” As opposed to forced government compliance by citizens? Apparently, he wants conversation

Quoting from his pro-environment 2015 encyclical Laudato Si, the pope called for “a conversation which includes everyone, since the environmental challenge we are undergoing, and its human roots, concern and affect us all”.

Includes everyone, except for those he disagrees with. Progressivism (nice fascism) is great, isn’t it?

It’s Un-American To Pull Out Of Paris Climate Agreement Or Something

Writing for the UK Guardian, which gave up all notions of journalism in their march for Progressive policies, non-climate scientist John Abraham (he’s a mechanical engineer) is all about believing that not believing in anthropogenic climate change is un-American (via Watts Up With That?)

An Inconvenient Sequel – the science, history, and politics of climate change

Al Gore’s new movie ‘An Inconvenient Sequel’ is, in some ways, similar to his groundbreakingInconvenient Truth project, but different in other ways. Those key differences are why I recommend you watch it.

This movie successfully accomplishes a number of interweaving tasks. First, it gives some of the science of climate change. Gore gets his science right. I remember his first movie, which I thought was more steeped in science and data than this one, so based on my recollection this new picture is somewhat abbreviated. That’s a good thing because the science is settled on climate change. That is, the science is settled that humans are causing current climatic changes and the science is settled that we are observing these changes throughout the natural world.

Readers of this column who venture into the comments below will likely find people claiming, “science is never settled.” But the people making those comments are not scientists. They don’t work in this field every day, they don’t see the data, and they don’t know what they’re talking about.

Interestingly, neither is Al Gore. Nor Barack Obama. A goodly chunk of those involved in the UN IPCC, and the present COP23.

The election in the US was a climate disaster and it is turning out to be worse than we could have feared. The US President and Congress are doing everything they can to ensure more rapid and devastating climate change. They are doing everything they can to ensure more California wildfires, more Marias, more Harveys, and more Irmas. They are doing everything they can to bring us more California droughts and wildfires and Texas floods. They are doing everything they can to cut funding from climate science so we won’t know how bad it is. They are doing everything they can to make the USA a pariah nation. In fact, on the day I write this, the US has become the only country to reject the Paris Climate Accord. That is a stunning fact. What kind of country does this?

What they are doing is so un-American; so un-conservative.

It’s always interesting getting inside the mind of a Warmist: in this case, we learn that they believe that massively increasing the size and power of the federal government, instituting massive control over citizens, private entities, the economy, the energy sector, while artificially increasing the cost of living through taxes and fees is totally their idea of “America” and ‘Conservative.” If you’re against that, you’re un-American and un-conservative. Good grief.

Washington Post: Al Franken Is Just The Tip Of The Congressional Harassment Iceberg

One has to wonder if this is a serious concern for the Washington Post Editorial Board, or a bit of Whataboutism designed to protect Franken from calls to resign. Which is ridiculous, because, if he resigns, there’s a good chance another Democrat will replace him, so, it’s not like the Democrats would lose ultimately

Al Franken is just the start of Congress’s reckoning with sexual harassment

DURING A hearing on harassment in the Capitol, Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-Va.) told the story of a young woman whose male boss, a sitting member of Congress, answered the door in a towel and exposed himself when the staffer stopped by his house to drop off materials. Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) said she knew of two current lawmakers, one a Democrat and the other a Republican, who “have engaged in sexual harassment.” And now a Los Angeles radio host has accused Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) of kissing and groping her without her consent.

Mr. Franken’s misconduct occurred in 2006, three years before he entered the Senate. But the allegations against him have brought the nationwide reckoning with sexual harassment into the Capitol. (snip – we know what the deal is with Franken)

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) have both called for an investigation into Mr. Franken’s conduct, to which the senator pledges his cooperation. We’re glad to see members of Mr. Franken’s own party voice their support for a fair probe by the Senate Ethics Committee. Mr. McConnell’s commitment to supporting committee investigations into “all credible allegations of sexual harassment or assault” also must hold firm for members of his own party — not only Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore, into whom Mr. McConnell has promised an ethics probe if Mr. Moore triumphs in an Alabama special election. Ms. Comstock’s and Ms. Speier’s stories show that abuse of power on Capitol Hill is a problem that crosses party lines.

Here’s the question: was it abuse of power? Or just people being jerks? Franken was certainly a jerk in both instances, but, does it rise to the level of sexual harassment? Or just inappropriate contact? Certainly, we’ve all done things that we later regretted, have we not? And, sometimes, we would apologize and atone for the actions. Was dropping the towel from the beginning of the editorial a mistake? Was the Congressman looking for something more? Or just an accident? Part of the problem here is that the SJWs have expanded the definition of sexual harassment well beyond reasonable definition. Just checking out another person is now sexual harassment. Asking for dates is sexual harassment. A wolf whistle, while rude (and, yes, women do all this, too), is now The Worst.

As the committee looks into Mr. Franken’s behavior, it will have to consider what comes next. What level of misconduct merits a lawmaker’s departure from Congress? Should the legislature have a zero-tolerance policy, or can gradations of offense be recognized? If a member’s wrongdoing took place entirely before his time on the Hill, should that affect continued service? Members of the House of Representatives should be asking these same questions.

And that’s where we wonder if this is about protecting Franken. In the private sector, most people who engage in actual sexual harassment will be terminated. I’ve sat in on several cases where employees harassed others. No touching was involved in either. Just poor words and gestures. Only one was dumb enough to make a complaint to the EEOC. For Franken, this occurred prior to his election. Should this mean he should be ousted? Resign? The WPEB doesn’t say

“As elected officials,” Ms. Gillibrand said, “we should be held to the highest standards — not the lowest.” She is right. Both Democrats and Republicans should support measures to hold predators to account, provide victims with support and make clear that all people deserve to be treated with respect.

Let’s be honest: the highest standards train left the station long. Very few good people run for office. And, considering the support of outlets like the Washington Post for people like Robert Byrd, Bill Clinton (and his enabling/protecting wife), and a guy who left a young woman to drown while he lawyered up and created an alibi, perhaps they aren’t the best for holding elected officials accountable.
