‘This Policy Is Dangerous’: Chicago Dems Fight To Roll Back City’s Sanctuary Law, Help Trump Deport Criminals

A pair of Chicago aldermen have introduced legislation that would roll back the city’s sanctuary law currently forbidding any cooperation between local law enforcement and federal immigration authorities, but their efforts face stiff odds in a city council dominated by liberal members.

Raymond Lopez and Silvana Tabares, both Democrats, filed a proposed amendment to Chicago’s Welcoming City Ordinance, which calls for exceptions when a migrant has been arrested or convicted of certain criminal activities. The aldermen argued in a public statement that it’s in the best interest of the city’s immigrant community to work with the incoming Trump administration in situations where wanted illegal migrants are involved in heinous crimes.

“We believe that the best way to protect law-abiding non-citizens from the returning Trump Administration is by working with them in apprehending their priority targets: non-citizens that CHOOSE to engage in dangerous, illegal activity once they are in the United States,” Lopez said in a public statement. “Our current [Welcoming City Ordinance] prohibits any coordination or cooperation, even in the most heinous situations.”

“This policy is dangerous to those law-abiding undocumented and non-citizens residents because, if someone is arrested or convicted of crimes, the federal authorities aren’t notified,” he continued. “Should the federal government go looking for those specific individuals seeking to deport them, there is a high probability that other targets, law-abiding undocumented and non-citizen residents, may be apprehended and deported as collateral damage. That is an entirely unacceptable yet avoidable situation.”

It has always been amazing that Democrats have gone so in on illegal immigration that they will protect those that commit crimes, include heinous felonies like murder, rape, sexual assault, including on children. What drives them that far? It’s just hard to understand. I can understand why they would want non-criminal illegals. I don’t like it, but, I can at least understand it. But, a huge chunk that support criminals? Boggles the mind.

Pennsylvania Warmist Attorney Says Law Can Be Used To Go After Fossil Fuels Companies

I wonder if the law can be used against those who use fossil fuels? I wonder if the lawyer and all those backing them realize that at best the fossil fuels companies will simply jack up the cost of their goods, at worst, just close shop in Pennsylvania?

But the NYU law journal article, “Causing or Risking Climate Catastrophe,” relies on Pennsylvania’s criminal statutes and draws from a criminal case brought against the owner and manager of a nightclub on Pier 34 in Philadelphia, which collapsed into the Delaware River killing three women and injuring more than 40 people in 2000. The criminal statute Regunberg said applies is causing or risking a catastrophe, which is a second or third-degree felony in Pennsylvania. It’s also a crime in five other states, including New Jersey. The authors chose to write about Pennsylvania because it has solid case law to support it, Regunberg said.

“Obviously it’s not new to prosecute corporations even for charges like homicide,” Regunberg said.

Yeah, well, wouldn’t that mean that those who use fossil fuels are causing or risking a catastrophe? Especially those who are making the claim that fossil fuels are killing the planet and every living thing on it? They should know better, right? Kinda like how high ranking military officers are prosecuted more harshly for doing the wrong thing because they should know better than some corporal?

Anyhow, it’s a novel approach, but, will prosecutors give it a whirl? Doubtful.

New Orleans Terror Attack Victims Sue City For Negligence

Bourbon Street terror victims sue New Orleans as Louisiana AG investigates security lapses

Dozens of victims of the New Year’s terrorist attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans are filing lawsuits against the city and its police department.

Terrorist Shamsud-Din Jabbar of Texas killed 14 civilians and injured dozens of others when he rammed a Ford-150 through crowds of people celebrating New Year’s on the famous New Orleans street around 3 a.m. Jan. 1. Jabbar was killed in a shootout with police.

One lawsuit filed Thursday on behalf of seven victims by Morris Bart, LLC takes aim at the City of New Orleans, Hard Rock Construction and engineering firm Mott MacDonald, LLC, alleging they were negligent in providing security measures that could have prevented the tragedy.

“We have done an extensive investigation and believe that the three defendants we have named in the lawsuit could have — and should have — taken steps to prevent this tragedy,” Morris Bart said in a statement. “Our hope is that, through this lawsuit, we can help prevent future tragedies.”

The lawsuit says the defendants “had years of opportunities to fix this known problem,” and “[c]ity contractors failed to live up to contractual obligations and perform work in the order and manner specified.”

And another lawsuit will be filed soon against New Orleans and the police department. The city failed to make sure that vehicles could not drive down the roads where people were celebrating, and the city knew the Bourbon St area was a high ranking target, having been warned by the FBI and via various studies

On New Year’s Eve, bollards on Bourbon Street were in the process of being replaced, a procedure that began Nov. 19, according to the city’s website.

While the replacement process was ongoing, officials installed a temporary barrier where Bourbon Street meets Canal Street, presumably to prevent suspicious vehicles from driving down the busy tourist area. However, according to local business owners and employees who previously spoke with Fox News Digital, that temporary barrier was set down instead of up, allowing vehicles to pass on the holiday.

They could have blocked the area with police vehicles or garbage trucks or something. Instead, they made it easy for a vehicle to drive down the road and the ISIS jihadi kill people. On New Year’s Eve. Another time when a city becomes a massive target.

BlackRock quits climate change group in latest green climbdown

BlackRock has become the latest financial firm to bail out of a big climate change industry group in the wake of Donald Trump’s election as US president and heightened regulatory scrutiny.

The world’s largest money manager told institutional clients in a letter on Thursday that it had quit Net Zero Asset Managers, a voluntary global group that describes itself as committed to “the goal of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 or sooner”.

Membership in NZAM had “caused confusion regarding BlackRock’s practices and subjected us to legal inquiries from various public officials”, vice-chair Philipp Hildebrand wrote, according to a copy of the letter seen by the Financial Times.

All six of the largest US banks, JPMorgan, Citigroup, Bank of America, Morgan Stanley, Wells Fargo and Goldman Sachs, have quit a similar group for banks, the Net-Zero Banking Alliance, in recent weeks.

“This pullout actually just shows what they said in 2020 and 2021 was just performative and marketing,” said Tracey Lewis, head of climate policy at Public Citizen, a progressive advocacy group. “Today, the truth is coming out as all these companies are trying to appease the incoming administration.”

Senator Cornyn Introduces Nationwide Concealed Carry Bill

EXCLUSIVE: John Cornyn Introduces Bill Allowing Concealed Carry Permits To Work In All 50 States

Republican Texas Sen. John Cornyn introduced a bill Thursday to allow concealed carry license holders to carry their guns in any state.

The bill, titled the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, will compel states to recognize concealed carry permits from all states as a valid certification to carry a concealed firearm, according to the bill text. A similar bill was proposed in the House in 2023 by Republican North Carolina Rep. Richard Hudson with widespread Republican support, with a Republican majority in both chambers only bolstering the law’s likelihood to pass.

President-elect Donald Trump has also voiced support for the law on the campaign trail.

“The Lone Star State has long championed our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms, and gun owners in Texas and across the country should not have that fundamental right violated when they cross state lines,” Cornyn said in statement provided to the Daily Caller News Foundation. “This legislation would reduce unnecessary burdens for law-abiding citizens and allow them to carry a concealed firearm in every state that permits it, and I’m grateful for the overwhelming support from my fellow Republican colleagues on this commonsense bill.”

In reality, the vast majority of states would honor my NC permit, except for California, Oregon, NY, PA, Colorado, Maryland, NJ, Maine, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Michigan, Colorado, and Illinois. A big thing would be to understand the laws of the other states, but, since both of my guns have 10 round mags (though the 9mm also has a 12 round mag) I’d be fine. The question becomes with a law like Cornyn’s, should there be some sort of nationalized standard for concealed carry in terms of where one can carry? How about standardized licensing? Do we want los federales setting those standards? Might it be better than each individual state setting a standard, at least in terms of traveling outside of a state? Or, should we just leave it to each individual state?

Anyhow, it will pass the House. However, the chance of getting enough Democrats to vote to overcome a filibuster is low.

Critics of concealed carry reciprocity have said that the law would force states to potentially allow carry from gun owners who aren’t qualified to carry in their states, as well as problems with states affirming the authenticity of out-of-state permits, according to Everytown for Gun Safety.

“With the tragic rate of gun violence today, I simply cannot support efforts to further weaken our nation’s gun laws,” Democratic Virginia Sen. Mark Warner said according to Politico when Hudson proposed concealed carry reciprocity in 2017. “That includes renewed efforts this Congress to relax the standards for issuing concealed carry permits or to establish a national system that would further erode state-level concealed carry standards.”

So, this comes back to perhaps requiring people to pass a CCW class in order to carry outside the home state. When NC was looking to pass Constitutional Carry residents would not be eligible to carry in other states. They would have to pass a class. Perhaps Cornyn’s law could require passing a class?

Oregon To Be Doomed 5 Degree Warming By 2074

Oregon climate report predicts 5-degree warming by 2074, increased drought and less snow

A new report on how climate change is impacting the state of Oregon was released today. The report is released every 2 years and it focuses on shifts in temperature and weather patterns over the Pacific Northwest.

The report found that Oregon’s average annual temperature increased by 2.2 degrees over the last century.

It also indicates the state could become 5 degrees warmer by 2074.

This report found that besides warming, Oregon is prone to more drought and less snow due to a changing climate.

“Could.” In other words, this is all scaremongering. BTW, how does this compare to previous Holocene warm periods? And, even if it does happens, can this be 100% proven to be the fault of Mankind, versus just normal Holocene warming?

“Some recent research that I’ve been involved with, led by scientists at OSU, looked into freezing rain with climate change, such as ice storms. The finding there is that in most parts of western Oregon, warming will reduce the amount of freezing rain and reduce ice storms,” said Paul Loikith, with Portland State University.

That would be a good thing, right? Ice storms suck.

Warming Great Lakes could lead to stronger snow storms, climate scientists say

Canadian Leaders Say Trump Talking About The 51st State Is No Longer Funny

Would possibly invade? There’s zero chance that even the Republican led Congress would authorize it. Trump may possibly be serious about Greenland and even Panama, but, Canada? It’s a troll

Canadian leaders say Trump’s talk about Canada becoming the 51st state isn’t funny anymore

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s comments that Canada should become the 51st state are no longer a joke and are meant to undermine America’s closest ally, Canada’s finance minister said Wednesday.

Dominic LeBlanc, the country’s point person for U.S-Canada relations, said Trump was smiling when he first made the comment during a dinner at Mar-a-Lago with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in late November.

“The joke is over,” said LeBlanc. “It’s a way for him, I think, to sow confusion, to agitate people, to create chaos knowing this will never happen.”

Surprise! LeBlanc gets it.

Trump keeps floating the idea that Canada should join the United States as the 51st state, saying Tuesday he would not use military force to invade the country, which is home to more than 40 million people and is a founding NATO partner.

Instead, Trump said he would rely on “economic force” as he erroneously cast the U.S. trade deficit with Canada — a natural resource-rich nation that provides the U.S. with commodities like oil — as a subsidy.

“It’s becoming very counterproductive,” LeBlanc said, referring to Trump’s rhetoric about Canada.

Is it? Y’all are still talking about it, and, understanding the point, which is more economic equity between the U.S. and Canada

Canadian Immigration Minister Marc Miller also fired back, dismissing Trump’s comments as “ridiculous.”

“There is no chance of us becoming the 51st state. I think that this is beneath a president of the United States,” Miller said. “I said a few weeks ago that this whole thing was like a South Park episode.”

But, you’re still participating in the show, Marc. And maybe, especially with Trudeau gone, Canada could make the trade balances more even so tariffs would not be needed. And, perhaps you will restore all those freedoms taken away, especially during the Trudeau years.

However, if we turn Canada into a territory, they won’t get voting rights in Congress.

The thing is, she seems to get it, and is not doing this in a mean spirited way.

EU warns of ‘serious blow’ from Trump on climate change

Global efforts to address climate change will be dealt a severe blow if U.S. President-elect Donald Trump again pulls the country out of the Paris Agreement, the EU’s head of climate change policy has warned.

Trump’s transition team has prepared executive orders to withdraw the United States – currently the world’s second-biggest polluter, after China – from the main global treaty on climate change, according to sources in the team.

CO2 is not a pollutant

“If that were to happen, that would be a serious blow for international climate diplomacy,” EU climate commissioner Wopke Hoekstra told Reuters in an interview.

Another U.S. exit from the Paris Agreement would require other countries to “double down on climate diplomacy” in response, he said.

“There’s no alternative to make sure that, in the end, everyone chips in, because climate change is indiscriminate,” Hoekstra said of the U.N. climate talks. “This truly is a problem that the world needs to solve together.”

And? Why is this our problem? If you want to Do Something, have at it. Why must they drag everyone into their little cult? At least Scientology and other cults do not try to force Everyone Else to comply. Worry about yourselves, EU weenies. Oh, and don’t forget that your peasants are ready to revolt over your nice Fascism on ‘climate change’, among other issues.
