Good Grief: Duckworth Calls For Return To Taking Off Your Shoes At Airport Security

TSA urged to bring back controversial airport security rule abandoned last summer: ‘Reckless act’

A Democratic senator has called on the Department of Homeland Security to re-introduce the controversial “shoes off” rule for travelers at airports – branding the decision to ditch it as “reckless and dangerous.”

Tammy Duckworth (D-Illinois) blasted former Secretary Kristi Noem, who announced last July the policy had been abandoned almost 20 years after it was first rolled out at US airports.

“Secretary Noem’s decision to implement a shoes on policy on July 8, 2025, likely without meaningful consultation with TSA [Transportation Security Administration], was a reckless act,” she wrote in the letter addressed to its acting administrator Ha Nguyen McNeill, seen by CBS News.

Duckworth issued the blistering warning – just months after an investigation by DHS’ internal watchdog found scanners could not screen shoes effectively.

“Allowing a potentially catastrophic security deficiency to remain in place for seven months and counting betrays TSA’s mission,” the lawmaker blasted.

I typically fly at least once a year, visit the parents for Christmas, maybe fly somewhere else for vacation. I haven’t been required to take off my shoes for like 4 years at Newark. RDU for like 3 years. They’ve stopped requiring separate bins for computers and stuff. Do not even have to take the computer out of the bag. Is Tammy butthurt because Noem under Trump put this policy in place?

Seriously, after putting in the shoes policy in 2006 has anyone been caught with a bomb or anything else?

The policy, which had been in place since 2006, was ditched just months before millions of tourists are expected to flock to the US for America 250 celebrations and the World Cup.

Officially ditched, because airports around the country have quietly ditched the policy. Most nations do not require taking shoes off. Those who did generally only required if taking an international flight to the US. And, really, if someone wanted to have shoe bombs, they could have just used TSA PreCheck, which doesn’t require taking shoes off for scanning.

I know, let’s make Tammy go through security just like the rest of us and make her take her shoes off.

Oh, Noes, Dung Beetles Having A Tough Time With ‘Climate Change’

Dung beetles have a tough life. Climate change is making it worse

A recent study in Peru’s Amazon found that rising temperatures from climate change are pushing dung beetles beyond their thermal limits, reducing species diversity at both low and high elevations and threatening their ecological roles.

Not exactly the poster child for cute animals, dung beetles now join the list of species affected by human-caused climate change.

Indeed, the long tentacles of climate change now extend all the way into the dreary lives of dung beetles in the Amazon rainforest, a new study suggests.

“With ongoing climate change, rising temperatures may push dung beetles beyond their physiological limits,” said study lead author Kim Lea Holzmann of the University of Wurzburg in Germany, in an e-mail to USA TODAY.

“May.”

Besides their important role in ecosystems, dung beetles are an excellent model group for ecological research because their biology and ecology are relatively well understood, Holzmann said. “This makes them a valuable study system. They can be sampled using standardized trapping methods worldwide, since they are easily attracted to dung and carrion, which allows for comparable data across different regions.”

In addition, dung beetles are highly sensitive to environmental disturbances such as habitat loss, land-use change, and climate shifts. Because of this sensitivity, they serve as strong bioindicators, meaning changes in their communities can reflect broader ecosystem changes.

Well, they seem to have survived numerous Holocene warm and cool periods, so, enough with the scaremongering.

Washington Post Very Upset ICE Possibly Shot Someone In California

I mean, this isn’t even much of a story at all for the San Francisco media (the San Fran Chronicle seemed more concerned about the road delays), but, of course the Washington Post has to get hysterical

And, of course they want to position this as “ICE Bad!” in the headline and subhead

A man was taken to the hospital Tuesday after Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers fired at him during a targeted vehicle stop in Patterson, California, federal authorities said.

The officers were seeking to arrest Carlos Ivan Mendoza Hernandez when the shooting took place, acting ICE director Todd M. Lyons said in a statement. The statement described Mendoza Hernandez as an undocumented immigrant. Lyons said he was a gang member wanted in El Salvador for questioning in a murder investigation but did not provide evidence to back up that allegation.

Lyons said Mendoza Hernandez “weaponized his vehicle in an attempt to run an officer over,” prompting officers to fire “defensive shots to protect themselves, their fellow agents and the public.”

He did not say whether the man was struck by the bullets or provide the status of his medical condition.

Well of course the WP goes with “did not provide evidence”. Maybe they could have reached out to the El Salvador government for confirmation? That’s what reporters do.

The incident follows months of mounting scrutiny over the tactics of ICE officers and other federal immigration personnel, including the fatal shootings of two U.S. citizens in Minneapolis in January. In more than a dozen shootings by federal officers since last summer, the Trump administration has accused those who were shot of being the aggressors, saying many used their vehicles to try to injure federal officers.

This has what to do with anything? You’d think Americans would be happy that a member of a violent gang wanted on a murder charge was detained. But, not when Orange Man Bad is in office. These people are seriously broken.

Wacko Democrat To File Articles Of Impeachment Against Pete Hegseth

Democrat whose parents fled Iran moves to oust Hegseth

A Democratic congresswoman whose parents fled the regime of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini decades ago announced Monday she would file articles of impeachment against Secretary of War Pete Hegseth for alleged war crimes amid the current conflict.

Rep. Yassamin Ansari of Arizona previously told the New York Times she initially “felt a rush of hope, but also unease” when she learned Americans and Israelis had taken out Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in February.

But she has since been harshly critical of how the Trump administration has overseen the conflict, including President Donald Trump’s Easter message to what’s left of Iranian leadership to “open the f—ing Strait” of Hormuz by Tuesday or risk strikes on critical infrastructure.

“Donald Trump’s deranged statements — including one on Easter Sunday — are further entrenching our country and our world in another devastating, never-ending war,” Ansari said in a statement announcing her plans to impeach Hegseth.

Oh, please, it’s just an excuse to apply their TDS. Seriously, what did they think was going to have to happen after whacking Khomeini, lollipops and unicorns? The Dems are just using Ansari to push their derangement in the middle of a shooting conflict, rather than support the president and the Sec of War as they attack a nation that calls the U.S. the Great Satan and chants “death to America.” One which is the biggest state sponsor of terrorism, has killed lots of American service, you know all these things. Democrats would be screeching if Republicans were doing this crap if a Dem was in the White House

Ansari claimed Trump is threatening war crimes in violation of the Geneva Convention and has already committed “illegal actions and atrocities already committed at his direction — including violence that has destroyed schools, hospitals, and critical civilian infrastructure.”

“As the daughter of Iranian immigrants who fled this regime, and as an American Congresswoman who swore an oath to the United States Constitution, I know that this cannot go on,” she said.

Why do all the Leftist wackos speak like this? “I’m a this and a that.” Maybe she should try going to Iran and see how they treat her as both.

Ansari urged invocation of the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office and said she would file articles of impeachment and seek to formally impeach Hegseth “next week.”

UN, EU Warn Trump Against Striking Iranian Power Plants, Say Violates International Law

I’m having trouble where the EU and UN have warned Iran against striking civilian targets after Iran already struck civilian targets in Israel, Dubai, and other Middle East nations. But, especially against Israel. Nor do they ever warn Hamas or Hezbollah. Nor do they ever warn Iran about the way Iran treats women and LGBT people

UN warns Trump’s Iran infrastructure threats could violate international law

Donald Trump has threatened to destroy Iran’s power plants and bridges if the country fails to reopen the Strait of Hormuz by a Tuesday deadline. The threat has drawn sharp criticism from senior Democrats and alarmed the United Nations, which warned the plan could violate international law.

Senate Democrat leader Chuck Schumer condemned the threat in a social media post. “The president of the United States is ranting like an unhinged madman on social media,” Schumer wrote. “He’s threatening possible war crimes and alienating allies. This is who he is, but this is not who we are. Our country deserves so much better.”

Trump set an 8pm Eastern time Tuesday deadline for Iran to agree to a deal and reopen the strategic waterway. In a profanity-laced social media post, he warned Iran would “be living in Hell” if it failed to comply. Trump stated that every bridge in Iran would be decimated by 12 o’clock the following night. He also warned that every power plant in Iran would be “out of business, burning, exploding and never to be used again.”

Well of course Schumer and other Democrats condemned, because they are on the side of Iran, not the United States

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed alarm at the threats. His spokesman Stephane Dujarric stated: “We were alarmed by the rhetoric seen in that social media post that threatened American attacks on power plants, bridges, and other infrastructure, should Iran not agree to a deal.”

Dujarric warned that attacking non-military targets risks violating international law, even if there is a military objective. When asked whether bombing power plants and bridges could constitute war crimes, Trump responded: “No, not at all.”

U.S. President Donald Trump’s threats to bomb power plants and bridges across Iran if it does not reopen the critical Strait of Hormuz would be a war crime, one of the EU’s top leaders cautioned on Monday, hours before Washington’s deadline expires.

“Any targeting of civilian infrastructure, namely energy facilities, is illegal and unacceptable,” European Council President António Costa said in a statement. “This applies to Russia’s war in Ukraine, and it applies everywhere.”

It’s wild the lengths these people will go to protect Iran. It’s not all Trump or Bush Derangement Syndrome, because they worked to protect Iran during the Clinton, Obama, and Biden admins.

PRV Looks To Rejoin Regional Climate (cult) Initiative

Virginia moves to rejoin controversial climate change pact by July 1: Here’s what it means

Virginia is set to rejoin a multi-state agreement combating climate change after state lawmakers passed a House bill earlier this year, with regulators targeting a return to full participation in the initiative by July 1.

The move follows the General Assembly’s passage of House Bill 29 on Friday, Feb. 20, which allows the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to rejoin the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) in “an expeditious manner,” reversing policies enacted under the previous Republican administration.

According to the department, work is already underway to reinstate the previous carbon dioxide budget trading program, with amendments to remove outdated references and to address the time period when the rule was not in effect.

As part of that timeline, state officials expect Virginia to participate in the program’s September and December 2026 carbon dioxide allowance auctions. The department said it has also been coordinating with other RGGI states on the logistics of rejoining the initiative.

What had happened before?

The renewed push to rejoin the initiative came after Gov. Abigail Spanberger and Attorney General Jay Jones (both D) announced plans in mid-January to bring Virginia back into the program after former Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) said that he wanted to withdraw from the agreement in 2022, citing concerns about rising energy costs for Virginians.

“Participating in RGGI allows us to protect our health, our environment, and our pocketbooks, which is why I have taken legal actions to facilitate our ability to rejoin,” Jones told 8News on Monday, April 6. “As Attorney General, I will fight for Virginians by holding corporations accountable for their pollution and driving them to adopt cleaner practices.”

Well, this should be fun. Anyone who voted for the Dems and Spanberger should not be allowed to move from the People’s Republik of Virginia unless they are going to another wackadoodle Leftist state.

(Washington Post) Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger’s approval rating stands at 47 percent two months into the Democrat’s term, with 46 percent of voters disapproving and 7 percent expressing no opinion in a Washington Post-Schar School poll.

Oh, Noes, Military Wife Caught Up By ICE!

US soldier trying to halt wife’s deportation after she was detained on Louisiana military base

A U.S. Army staff sergeant is trying to halt his wife’s deportation after she was detained inside a Louisiana military base where the couple was planning to live together just days after their wedding.

The effort to remove the soldier’s wife, who was born in Honduras and remained in a federal immigration detention center Monday, has drawn backlash from military family advocates who called the detention demoralizing in a time of war and warned that deporting spouses could undermine recruitment.

Staff Sgt. Matthew Blank said he brought his wife, Annie Ramos, 22, to his base in Fort Polk, Louisiana, last Thursday so that she could begin the process to receive military benefits and take steps toward a green card. The couple married in March.

Well, that was an unforced error

Federal immigration agents detained Ramos as part of the Trump administration’s mass deportation agenda, which legal experts say has dispensed with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s practice of leniency toward families of military members.

Something is missing

Ramos’ detention was first reported by The New York Times.

Ramos entered the U.S. in 2005, when she was younger than 2 years old. That same year, her family failed to appear for an immigration hearing, leading a judge to issue a final order of removal, according to DHS.

“She has no legal status to be in this country,” DHS said in an emailed statement. “This administration is not going to ignore the rule of law.”

On April 2, the couple and Sergeant Blank’s parents drove from Houston to the base, arriving early for a 2 p.m. appointment. As instructed, the couple checked in at the visitor center, where they presented Ms. Ramos’s birth certificate, Honduran passport, their marriage license and Sergeant Blank’s military ID.

They never made it to the benefits office.

According to Sergeant Blank and his mother, an attendant scrutinized the documents and asked if Ms. Ramos had a visa or a green card. She did not, they explained, noting that their lawyer had prepared a green card application that would be filed any day.

Got that? She’s been here for 20+ years, and during all that time has failed to apply for a green card. She failed to do DACA correctly. She showed up with a Honduran passport….when the hell did she get that? Why would she get that unless she was more interested in being a Honduran? They just showed up to the military base expecting everything to be hunky dory. Did they consider that the immigration system might well investigate if the marriage was legitimate, not an attempt to get legal status? Because Immigration courts do investigate this heavily.

Staff Sergeant Blank should have known all this. If they were really in love the lawyer(s) would have told them she needed to go back to Honduras with the deportation order and then they file the paperwork. It can take a while, but, it usually gets done. I mean, seriously, 20+ years and did nothing. Also

Elle Duncan slams critics after Netflix’s MLB opening night debacle

Major League Baseball’s opening night coverage has been the subject of polarizing opinions.

And this is something Netflix is no stranger to.

Netflix had major streaming issues during its airing of boxing in late 2024, during Jake Paul’s fight with Mike Tyson, which also featured Amanda Serrano’s bout with Katie Taylor, showing a consistent lag. This even led Netflix to be the target of a $50 million lawsuit over the quality of the streaming.

The company is not quite in the same position now following their airing of Yankees-Giants as part of MLB Opening Day, but the online chirping is loud, which Elle Duncan — who joined Netflix as a host following a lengthy tenure on ESPN — responded to on a recent episode of “Pablo Torre Finds Out” this week.

Critics have pointed to non-baseball personalities being used and a new-look scorebug as some of the primary issues.

“Whenever there’s criticism that I saw like, ‘It was just so Netflix. It was not for baseball purists,” Duncan acknowledged, adding, “This was not for baseball purists. You’ll watch it anywhere. This was for the baseball-curious.”

It was opening day, and, they apparently just had weird shit going on. If people are “baseball-curious” they would want to see the game, hear the game, maybe have some explanations, but, really, everyone kind of knows baseball

“A lot of what Netflix is doing in the sports world is, yes, for the people that are always going to watch those sports, but also the people that maybe tuned into to watch “Love is Blind,” saw the button for ‘Opening Day on Netflix,’ and thought, ‘All right, I’ll check it out,’” Duncan said.

Yeah, no, they really didn’t

Duncan disagrees with the criticisms — which include missing the first-ever Automatic Ball Strike challenge due to a mid-inning dugout interview — and mentioned that baseball fans ultimately expected something they weren’t going to fully get.

“This is like going to a Mexican restaurant and bitching that they don’t have barbecue,” said Duncan. “They advertise as a Mexican restaurant. It’s your fault that you somehow thought they were somehow gonna serve barbecue.”

Nah, it’s like going to the Mexican restaurant and them not having chips and salsa, no pico, no tacos.

She later added: “Netflix has made no qualms about who they are. We’re going to eventicize these things, we’re gonna pull people from the Netflix universe. That’s what we’re going to do.”

Netflix will broadcast the Home Run Derby on July 13 and the “Field of Dreams” game between the Phillies and Twins one month later.
