Global Warming Rally In Baltimore Thursday. In The Snow. And Cold

Great comedy!

They’re rolling out a green carpet.

Almost 500 global warming activists are expected to wave signs and unveil a long green carpet at 11 a.m. tomorrow (1/17/08) on Lawyers Mall outside the State House in Annapolis.

Their goal: convince state lawmakers to stroll down the symbolic rug and endorse a law that would reduce global warming pollution by 25 percent by 2020 and 90 percent by 2050. The sponsors of the “Global Warming Solutions Act” are state Sen. Paul Pinsky, a Democrat from Prince George’s County who is chairman of the senate environmental matters subcommittee, and Del. Kumar Barve, also a Democrat and the House majority leader. They proposed a similar bill last year — but it got bottled up in committee after power company lobbyists argued it could hurt the state’s economy. Skeptics of such limits worry they would drive up costs of energy for consumers and impose burdensome regulations for business, while supporters argue that Maryland’s economy would be hurt more by the storms and rising sea levels brought by climate change.

Read for the punchline? (from The Weather Channel page for the text forecast)

Cloudy early with periods of light rain and snow later in the day. High near 40F. Winds SE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precip 60%. A slushy accumulation of less than one inch.

The average high for January 17th in Baltimore is 44 degrees. So, they are going to pull their little stunt on a below average temp day with snow. Yes, there is a winter weather advisory for a good chunk of Maryland. Good move!

BTW, check the screenshot from the Weather Channel, and notice when the record high and low were.

I can’t comprehend a five degree high/low temperature. Ours are often like a 30 or 40 degree difference. I’m sorry, I’m stunned, I can’t comment; except that I’m currently freezing my ass off. It’s like 10 degrees right now.

  2. John Ryan says:

snow in Baltimore ? is that highly unusual for January ? I don’t think that it is.
Teach you forgot to post the average LOW for January could you repost that ? Thanks
Oh by the way the average low in Jan in Baltimore is 29 And the record low is -4
Teach you seem to think that any snow means that there has been no significant warming as I tried to explain to you before snow is an indication of percipitation, it alone does not indicate an abnormal temp.
Teach when you lived in New Jersey did you skate on natural ice ? so far this winter there has not been any in Central Park

  3. Scrapiron says:

Come on South a state. Expected low Sat AM is 9-13. Lots of ice to skate on, even in your car if the two storms come as projected by the wheather people. As the Russian weather expert says, come 2012 you’ll be screaming for the long johns and fur coats and begging for some heat because another ice age is upon you. Just like the 70’s, but not to worry, weather change in normal and has been going on since time began.

Annapolis OR Baltimore? Home of the US Naval Academy OR inner hood shoot and snort zone? Walk the streets of Annapolis safely or get mugged, raped or shot in the other? Not talking about the Inner Harbor either… try five blocks over. That’s right… a blue state of socialism.
Why not have it in Washington DC next (after sundown)?

  5. Ogre says:

Since global warming is a religion, I do not ever expect it’s members to change course. However, I do wonder, mostly just out of curiosity, how they will explain things when all these cuts are made, yet the world continues to get warming because of the pesky sun.

  6. Silke says:

I really thought discussion on this issue was getting better on this blog but we’re back to the old stuff again…citing one weather event in one city as evidence against climate change and mentioning the Sun despite the fact that even sources Teach has cited on this blog contradict that argument. Oh well.

  7. Sounds fun in Colorado, Stacy 🙂

John, Silke, you are missing the point of the post, and, if you do not get it, I ain’t explaining it.

We are having a good cold snap here in NC, Scrapiron. Finally able to take out the gloves.

They will blame it on Bush, Ogre.

Oh, hell, I will explain it to you, Silke. Do you not find it ironic that there is going to be a demonstration by climahysterics in the middle of winter as a winter weather advisory is issued for today?

  8. Silke says:

Teach, you don’t have to explain your point to me. Your posts aren’t particularly subtle. It’s just not that good of a point.

That it gets cold in the winter time really has nothing to do with climate change. There is no irony accept to those who don’t understand the issue.

  9. Stacy says:

For the record, it’s cold, I’m freezing my ass off right now.

Yesterday it got up to like 15 or something; but I did notice the records. The record high for yesterday, 62 degrees I believe it was, was set in 1923. The record low of 19 below was in 1930.

  10. Obviously, I do have to explain it, Silke. And, you obviously still do not get the irony.

Brrrrrrr! Too cold, Stacy. I dealt with that sort of when I was going to prep school up in the mountains of NJ. Not quite to that degree, though.

  11. Silke says:

    Global warming = hot.
    Winter = cold.

    Brilliant!

  12. […] this the other day, regarding a global warming rally in Baltimore on Thursday. In the middle of a snow storm. So, yup! […]

    Teach
according to the most widely accepted definition of “mountains”
there are no mountains in New Jersey, they just do not have the elevation required.
