Trump Admin Helps Scuttle Global Climate (scam) Shipping Tax

I mentioned the other day that the Trump admin was heavily against this, and, now

US helps sink world’s first global carbon tax after threatening sanctions against countries supporting it

A fierce Trump administration push to stop the global shipping industry from paying for its own climate pollution appeared to have been successful Friday, as efforts to approve the “world’s first global carbon tax” collapsed.

It had been widely assumed the tax would be adopted during a summit in London at the International Maritime Organization, the UN-backed body that governs global shipping. But after four days of fraught negotiations, countries agreed to delay a vote on whether to approve it by 12 months.

The decision came after a vociferous US campaign, with President Donald Trump calling it a “scam tax” and the State Department threatening reprisals on countries supporting it.

Experts say the collapse of the talks marks not only a significant blow for attempts to clean up a heavily climate-polluting industry, undermining decades of negotiations, but also represents yet another failure of climate diplomacy.

How about this: all the people, particularly the Elites, who are pushing climate taxes and stuff should make their own lives carbon neutral? No more fossil fueled flights, no more luxury autos, live in small homes, etc and so on? Leave the rest of us the fuck alone.

“Louisiana Man” Charged With Being Part Of October 7th Hamas Attack

Louisiana Man is the new Maryland Dad

US charges Louisiana man with participating in deadly Hamas atrocities that sparked war

A Louisiana man described by prosecutors as a “monster” was charged Oct. 17 with participating in the Hamas surprise attack in 2023 that sparked the deadly conflict with Israel.

Mahmoud Amin Ya’qub Al-Muhtadi, 33, was arrested in Lafayette, Louisiana, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced. The native of Gaza belonged to a Palestinian military group, according to court papers. On the day of Hamas’ attack, cell phone location data placed him at the scene of a kibbutz just outside the Gaza Strip where dozens of people were killed and 19 people captured.

“After hiding out in the United States, this monster has been found and charged with participating in the atrocities of October 7 — the single deadliest day for Jewish people since the Holocaust,” Attorney General Pamela Bondi said in a statement announcing the arrest. “While nothing can fully heal the scars left by Hamas’s brutal attack, this Department’s Joint Task Force October 7 is dedicated to finding and prosecuting those responsible for that horrific day, including the murder of dozens of American citizens.” (snip)

The suspected terrorist fighter entered the U.S. on Sept. 12, 2024, by providing false information on a visa application, according to prosecutors.

Who was president then? Who gave him the immigration visa as he entered from Egypt and failed to vet him?

In fact, I see a ton of headlines calling him Louisiana Man or “lived in Louisiana”, all in an attempt to deflect from who he really is.

Say, What Did Trump’s Win Teach Dems About ‘Climate Change’?

Anything? Did they learn anything?

What Trump’s Victory Taught Democrats About Climate Change

Climate policy is decidedly unfashionable in 2025 — among Democrats.

The party isn’t embracing climate change denialism like many in the GOP, nor is it endorsing the Trump administration’s attacks on clean energy. But as Democrats continue groping for a way forward after their 2024 defeat, they’ve clearly decided they need to change how they talk about climate and energy issues. And in some cases, it goes beyond rhetoric to the actual policies they’re promoting. The bottom line for Democrats: Climate is out, affordability is in.

With Donald Trump having won back the presidency amid broad frustration with high prices, it’s perhaps no surprise that Democrats are trying to make gains in the affordability debate. But it’s still striking to see longtime climate champions in the party shift gears, and it speaks to concern among Democrats that their focus on climate change has weighed them down.

“It’s an issue that I think we need to continue to engage on and speak out on and work to legislate on, but it’s not a top three issue right now,” Sen. Chris Coons, the Democratic co-chair of the Senate’s bipartisan Climate Solutions Caucus, told me.

So, they learned to use misdirection, to put the scam on the backburner till they win again?

In a recent op-ed, Coons pinned Delaware’s rising electricity costs on Trump — and didn’t mention climate once.

Indeed, party leaders are trying a two-pronged affordability-centered strategy: tying higher electricity bills nationwide to Republicans’ dismantling of their signature climate package, while also downplaying climate policies within the states Democrats do control.

Coons spends A LOT of time yammering about ‘climate change’ on social media. And, Dems can try this route all they want, most of the skyrocketing of energy prices happened during Biden’s years as he did all he could to skupper fossil fuels while promoting “green” energy, but, not actually building anything close to necessary to replace what he killed off.

“The way to victory is to talk about price,” the Hawaii Democrat said at a New York Times event last month. “You could talk about the planetary emergency and mitigation and adaptation, and you could throw in some environmental justice rhetoric, and by the time you’re done talking, people think you don’t care about them.”

Are you getting the idea that Dems haven’t really dropped the matter, just talking about it differently? They will never give up on the scam, because it is a route to higher taxes/fees and more control of the peasants.

NY Times Notices Obamacare Prices Already Skyrocketing

Hey, remember when we weren’t allowed to call it Obamacare?

Higher Obamacare Prices Become Public in a Dozen States

Health insurance prices for next year under the Affordable Care Act are now available in about a dozen states, giving Americans their first look at the sharp increases many will pay for coverage if Congress does not extend subsidies that have made some plans more affordable.

The annual enrollment period for Obamacare is expected to begin Nov. 1, but the costs for some Americans are becoming publicly available piecemeal through some state marketplaces. The federal website healthcare.gov, which includes 28 other state marketplaces, is slated to post prices before the end of October.

People shopping for coverage can now preview the costs they face from potentially expiring subsidies and sharply rising premiums in many markets, including California, New York, Nevada, Maryland and Idaho. Some consumers also found out that they would have fewer choices because their insurers dropped out of some markets for 2026.

Based on the newly posted information, a family of four making $130,000 in Maine would face an increase of $16,100 in annual premiums next year because they would no longer qualify for more generous subsidies, said Gideon Lukens, a health policy researcher for the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, which supports extending the subsidies.

Older people will also see sharp increases, according to his calculations. In Kentucky, a 60-year-old couple making $85,000 per year could face an increase of $23,700 in annual premiums. In Nevada, a similar couple could pay an additional $18,100 in annual premiums, while in Minnesota, the cost might be $15,500 more and, in Maryland, an additional $13,700.

Wait, nothing blaming Republicans?

President Trump has also signaled some interest in making a deal. But since Democrats made the demand a centerpiece of shutdown politics, Republican congressional leaders have said they will not consider extending the subsidies as part of a short-term bill to fund the government.

Surveys by public pollsters and Republican firms have found that the subsidies are popular with voters. A recent poll from KFF found that 59 percent of Republicans favored an extension. But it would be expensive — costing around $350 billion over a decade, according to a recent estimate from the Congressional Budget Office. And conservative critics have assailed the generous subsidies as a handout to the insurance industry and an invitation for fraud.

Weird, I thought the Patient Protection And Affordable Care Act would make it all less expensive?

Democrats were told this would happen from the get-go. And it got worse and worse. Maybe they should be thinking about ways to work with Republicans to actually make it affordable.

Your Fault: Ocean Less Green Because You Ate A Steak

It’s always some sort of complete coming doom with this crowd

World’s oceans losing their greenness through global heating, study finds

The world’s oceans are losing their greenness owing to global heating, according to a study that suggests our planet’s capacity to absorb carbon dioxide could be weakening.

The change in the palette of the seas is caused by a decline of phytoplankton, the tiny marine creatures that are responsible for nearly half of the biosphere’s productivity.

The findings, which also have alarming implications for oxygen levels and food chains, are based on a groundbreaking study of daily chlorophyll concentrations in low to mid-latitude oceans from 2001 to 2023.

Chlorophyl is a green pigment responsible for photosynthesis, the process by which plants, algae and phytoplankton convert sunlight, water and carbon dioxide into oxygen and glucose. It is one of the foundation blocks of life on Earth.

Here’s the thing, there are reasons for a loss of plankton, one of which is ocean pollution. The second is more fresh water in the higher latitudes. The latter is something that can, in fact, happen during any Holocene warm period, but, they adjust, because warm and cool periods happen. We do not have to invoke witchcraft, er, Your Fault

Using deep-learning algorithms, the authors of the new paper compiled data from satellites and monitoring ships to assess the change in the oceans’ hue. They found a significant decline of greenness – about 0.35 micrograms per cubic metre each year – over the more than two decade period of the study. The trend was twice as high in coastal regions and more than four times greater near river estuaries.

And there you go, yet another study based on a computer model, rather than actual on-site research.

The new paper says the change was probably caused by rising temperatures associated with climate change.

“Probably”? Meaning, this is all a guess. Perhaps they should have done actual Science to determine the cause, rather than fearmongering in Cult.

This confirms theories about the impact of global heating on ocean stratification. Collaborating author Michael Mann, of the University of Pennsylvania, said: “This is the first study to robustly demonstrate that, yes, we can confidently conclude that we are seeing a decrease in the greenness of the ocean, indicating a lowering of marine productivity, constituting yet another threat to humanity associated with fossil fuel burning and human-caused planetary warming.”

Washington Post Upset That GOP Brands “No Kings” Rallies As Anti-American

Are you ready for yet another day of old people whining about no kings on Saturday?

GOP tries to brand anti-Trump ‘No Kings’ protests as ‘hate America’ rallies

Ahead of thousands of anti-authoritarian “No Kings” protests planned for Saturday across the United States, Republicans are trying to brand the demonstrations as “hate America” rallies, ramping up their rhetoric about the millions of people expected to peacefully protest President Donald Trump and his administration’s policies as they did in June.

For more than a week, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) and other GOP leaders have cast the “No Kings” rallies as un-American, using increasingly hyperbolic language. Johnson and other members of House GOP leadership, including Majority Leader Steve Scalise (Louisiana), Majority Whip Tom Emmer (Minnesota), and Republican Conference Chair Lisa C. McClain (Michigan), have all described the protests as events for people who “hate America,” with Johnson and Emmer going as far as to suggest they are meant to appease a “terrorist wing” of the Democratic Party.

“We call it the ‘hate America’ rally that will happen Saturday. Let’s see who shows up for that,” Johnson said Wednesday at a news conference with other House GOP leaders. “I bet you you’ll see Hamas supporters, I bet you’ll see antifa types, I bet you’ll see the Marxists on full display, the people who don’t want to stand and defend the foundational truths of this republic.”

None of that is incorrect. You’ll see people being weird in support of LGBTQ, you’ll see people saying violent things towards ICE.

Democrats and organizers of the more than 2,600 events scheduled for Saturday have strongly rebuffed this characterization, defending the protests as peaceful and pointing out there were relatively few disruptions at the rallies in June, while also warning of the attempts to stifle First Amendment rights.

Rebuffed! That’ll show ’em!

“Speaker Johnson said this is a ‘hate America’ rally because people are coming out expressing their concerns about massive cuts to health care and the movement toward authoritarianism. It’s not a hate America rally, it’s a love America rally,” Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) said Wednesday at a town hall on CNN with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York).

They can never actually say what rights Trump is trying to take away or why Trump actually allows these wacko demonstrations if he’s an authoritarian, why he doesn’t arrest those demonstrating.

In a video posted Wednesday, Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Connecticut) accused Republicans of amping up their rhetoric and trying to brand protesters as “terrorists” to suppress rally turnout. Murphy, who is scheduled to speak at the D.C. “No Kings” rally on Saturday, urged people to show up in big numbers anyway to demonstrate “peacefully but forcefully.”

So, it’s OK for Democrats to amp up their rhetoric but not Republicans? Strange. I wonder how many Palestinian and Hamas flags and such at the demonstration? Will Antifa, which the media has said doesn’t exist, fly their flags? Will we see more beheaded Trump exhibits? The media tries to hide this stuff, but, they forget that there is this thing called social media.

Bummer: Biden Climate Rules For Banks Killed Off

Really, all these scam rules did was make it more expensive to do business and interfere in the private market

U.S. regulators toss out rules requiring banks to prepare for climate change

Regulators are doing away with controversial rules that required banks to plan for losses in the event of climate-related events, according to an announcement Thursday.

A joint release from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and the Federal Reserve said they no longer believe the requirements are necessary as they are redundant with other provisions banks make to plan for emergencies and unusual events.

“The agencies do not believe principles for managing climate-related financial risk are necessary because the agencies’ existing safety and soundness standards require all supervised institutions to have effective risk management commensurate with their size, complexity, and activities,” a joint release from the three regulators said.

Good

Fed Governor Michael Barr, the former vice chair for supervision, issued a statement disagreeing with the move.

“Rescinding the principles is shortsighted and will make the financial system riskier even as climate-related financial risks grow,” Barr said in a statement.

Trump administration officials have criticized the Fed for falling prey to mission creep, or exceeding the scope of its mandates for monetary policy and bank supervision. The climate change provisions, established in October 2023, were one point of criticism.

Chair Jerome Powell has repeatedly stated that climate is not a direct Fed issue. The rules required banks, as part of routine testing, to list potential losses they might suffer from climate-related issues.

Since when do Democrats care about exceeding the scope of mandates? They love blowing right by them. But, this is a good start, and, hopefully the Trump admin keeps neutering the scam as practiced by the federal government.

Wacko Federal Judge Requires ICE To Wear Body Cameras

This judge seems to think she runs the Executive Branch, and has gotten a little too big for her britches

Federal judge demands answers from Trump admin on following order to avoid violent encounters with Chicago protesters

The sign outside the door said Courtroom 1403. But inside, it felt a lot more like the principal’s office.

“I’m not happy,” US District Judge Sara Ellis said Thursday in a stern tone no student – or attorney – wants to hear. “I’m really not happy.”

One week after the judge issued a sweeping order trying to calm the intense response of federal agents to protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement and US Border Patrol activities in Chicago, Ellis told both sides to come back to her courtroom to have their own intense discussion.

“I live in Chicago, if folks haven’t noticed, and I’m not blind, right?” Ellis opened the hearing. “So, I don’t live in a cave. I have a phone. I have a TV. I have a computer and I tend to get news.”

The judge said those news reports were leading her to believe the Trump administration may not be following her instructions.

“At least from what I’m seeing, I’m having serious concerns that my order’s being followed,” said Ellis from the bench.

For clarity, from that “sweeping order” link

The judge’s order, which applies to the entire Northern District of Illinois, blocks federal agents from firing various types of less-lethal projectiles and chemical irritants and from “using force, such as pulling or shoving a person to the ground, tackling, or body slamming an individual.”

Hey, what the hell are we supposed to use man? Harsh language? Did the judge happen to watch TV and see the violence coming from the “protesters”?

In response, Ellis announced Thursday she will expand her restraining order, requiring all federal agents who are part of Operation Midway Blitz and who have body cameras to have them on during encounters with protesters.

Um, how many actually have body cams?

“That’s the nice thing about body cameras is that they pick up events before the triggering event happens,” she said.

The judge initially required all agents to wear cameras, but agreed to some flexibility after Sean Skedzielewski, an attorney representing the Trump administration, said it would be logistically impossible to immediately equip all agents with bodycams.

Actually, this is a fantastic idea, as the cams will catch the faces and actions of the violent liberal protesters, allowing for federal law enforcement to follow up and arrest them later. I wonder if the leftist judge really thought this one through?
