America Needs a COVID-19 Bipartisan Commission to Prepare for the Next Pandemic

Postmortems, or autopsies, which were common practice until well into the 20th-century but have recently become more rare, are conducted to determine a cause of death….

For the same reasons, America needs a national postmortem on our response to the COVID-19 pandemic—to learn from our mistakes and improve responses to the next pandemic. Policy quality control, as it were. An honest postmortem can only occur, however, if Congress finds the will to create and fund a bipartisan commission that will bring in outside experts to analyze data and use the commission’s subpoena power to question policy makers.

With blame and embarrassment undoubtedly belonging on both sides of the aisle, it is not surprising that there is insufficient appetite for setting one up. A few senators have tried to get a bill to the floor to approve a COVID-19 commission, but so far have not succeeded. In the absence of such a commission, we will simply have more of what we have now: tribes of people yelling at each other furiously, both sides convinced that all could have been different and turned out better if only someone else had been in charge or some other set of experts had been listened to.

It would certainly get ugly, because we’d see all the insanity pushed mostly by Democratic Party governors, with a smattering of Republicans, like Maryland’s Larry Hogan. Things like restricting American Citizens from traveling to their 2nd homes (which is wise policy, those summer towns were not set up for the influx, but, the governors did not explain, and still do not have the legal power). Restricting them from buying seeds for gardening. Filling skateboard parks with sand. Arresting a person paddleboarding in the ocean. The examples go on and on. Then all the hypocrisy from the Elites, where they traveled, got caught without masks. Did the mandates work? Did the vaccines work?

The House, under control of the Republicans, recently conducted a hearing, the Select Subcommittee Roundtable: Examining Covid Policy Decisions, led by Chairman Wenstrup (R-OH), which he said in opening remarks aimed to be bipartisan and which did contain members from both parties. The sole witness called by the Democrats, Dr. Georges Benjamin, the Executive Dir. of the American Public Health Assoc., said explicitly, as did Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, one of the three witnesses called by the Republicans, that U.S. citizens deserve a bipartisan commission. He referenced the 9/11 Commission as a key step in reforming U.S. national security policies.

Unfortunately, while the committee did raise important questions, for example about school closures and children’s mental health, it in no way mirrored the lengthy, deliberate, and thoughtful processes of a bipartisan commission. There was no extended fact finding phase nor did the committee have subpoena power, although experts were called, including three authors of an eighty page report on the U.S. pandemic response that was released in February. As coauthors on this report, our hope was that a pandemic commission could use it as a blueprint to help inform an extensive investigation into what went wrong–and what went right–and craft a set of recommendations to improve the next pandemic response. So far, this has not happened and numerous attempts to launch such a commission have been squelched.

Yes, let’s learn about the school closures, how much it negatively affected the children. About the idiocy of making them mask up. Eat outside in the cold temps while being masked. How the teacher’s unions actually made policy instead of the duly elected general assemblies. How lockdowns did not work. The list goes on and on, you know it, you lived it. Democrats will never go for a full commission, because it would expose the Wrong Doing coming mostly from their people and policies.

This goes to the issue of credibility. There are very few Americans who trust the members of the opposite political party. There are a great many Americans who distrust both parties AND the government institutions that they control (FBI, DoJ, etc). There have already been some investigations, so we have been told. Who can perform an investigation that has any credibility? Everyone has a credibility gap. Why promise to hold an investigation when the outcome, whatever it may be, will be rejected by most of the American people?

Mr Teach opposes a bipartisan commission why?

Clearly, we need to decide how to handle the next pandemic, but to do that we need to examine how we responded to the Covid pandemic. Unfortunately, the Repubicun Party, increasingly insecure in their ‘beliefs’ (and terrified that smart libs are fooling them), have no intention of permitting thoughtful examination, preferring to capitalize on potential political advantage.

According to winger dogma: China communists, in cahoots with Fauci, Soros and the Dems, constructed a deadly virus in their government laboratories and released it on the world, with the US and Europe being the primary targets. Communist insider Fauci pushed masks and gene-altering so-called ‘vaccines’ to control Americans. Democratic operatives (mayors, teachers and governors) shut down schools to control Americans and shut down businesses to control patriots. Democratic politicians forced President Trump to sign trillion dollar give-aways to further control Americans. The so-called ‘vaccines’ killed more Americans than they protected. All of this has been covered up by the Democrats and their communist supporters in and out of government. To a winger, there is nothing more to be learned.

To the right, public health is public fascism! Hang Tony Fauci!

One Conspiracy to rule them all, One Conspiracy to find them,
One Conspiracy to bring them all and in the darkness bind them

“Communist insider Fauci pushed masks and gene-altering so-called ‘vaccines’ to control Americans.”

Actually Fauci first said not to use masks. He later confessed he said that because he thought we didn’t have enough to provide the health care workers and first responders. But when he discovered we had plenty he said we could use them.

But that was okay because it was for “your own good.”

The problem is this. Once you admit to lying about 1 thing then you have no credibility about anything.

Maciej Boni, an associate professor of biology at Pennsylvania State University, wrote in The Philadelphia Inquirer:

COVID’s ‘new normal’: 120,000 U.S. deaths per year?
Based on my research, 80% of Americans must get vaccinated every year to prevent a staggering toll from COVID. Let’s draw on our experience meeting past public health challenges to make this happen.

    by Maciej Boni | Tuesday, March 14, 2023 | 6:00 AM EDT

Since the pandemic hit our shores in early 2020, more than a million people living in the U.S. have died from COVID-19. Even in 2022, a year with an ample supply of vaccines and medicines to treat severe infections, more than 250,000 Americans lost their lives to the virus.

Are we supposed to accept this as our new normal?

In a bad influenza season, up to 50,000 Americans may die. HIV and respiratory syncytial virus — or RSV — may each kill about 10,000 people in the U.S. every year. Several thousand may die from viral hepatitis.

As the world’s undisputed leader in science and medicine, are we willing to allow the SARS-CoV-2 virus to kill more than a hundred thousand Americans each year?

This is not the America that I know. Our country eliminated smallpox by the 1940s through mass vaccination campaigns. Polio was eliminated after vaccination was introduced in 1955. Expanded access to measles vaccines in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s led to the near-elimination of measles; last year, only 121 cases were reported in the entire country.

However, the near-term outlook for COVID vaccine coverage does not look nearly as good as it did for smallpox, polio, and measles.

In 2022, my colleagues and I estimated that only 39% of Americans got a COVID vaccine, and only 16% have gotten the latest version, the bivalent booster. Based on this, my colleagues and I conducted a simple projection — using peer-reviewed and published mathematical models of COVID-19 transmission — to determine how many people would die of COVID-19 each year if current trends continue.

At least Dr Boni didn’t advocate mandatory vaccinations! But her comparisons are wholly invalid: the vaccinations against polio, smallpox and measles were one-time vaccinations, which led to life-long protection, and they had years of study behind them.

The COVID vaccines, which don’t seem to prevent people from contracting the virus, though it is still claimed that if a vaccinated person does contract the virus, his illness will be less severe, don’t last. The government now wants everyone to get vaccinated once a year, but the claim is that the effect of the vaccines last only around four-to-six months.

In other words, COVID is now considered a seasonal disease, like influenza, even by Our Betters.

  4. Elwood P. Dowd says:

BTW, Professor Boni is a ‘he’.

The 7-day average for SARS-CoV-2 related deaths is 492/day.

    492 x 365 = 179,580 dead Americans.

Perhaps the daily rate will subside, perhaps not.

Because of rapid viral mutations, it is difficult/impossible to immunize against the common cold. Fortunately, few Americans die from common colds. Influenza is more dangerous than common cold, killing Americans in the 10s of thousands every year – with the occasional more deadly strain circulating.

Can we just ignore SARS-CoV-2 as we do cold viruses? Sure. Are you safer vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2? Of course.

Dr Boni recommends that people get vaccinated. For reasons unknown, many conservatives oppose being vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2. Some believe the vaccine is more dangerous than the virus. Some believe the vaccine enables the government to track and control them. Many just don’t like being told what’s good for them. Many conservatives trust nothing the government says.

  5. L'Roy White says:

DR. Terry Tenpenny recommends that healthy young people do not get vaccinated. For reasons unknown, many radical leftists oppose free choice and support force in vaccinating people not susceptible to the Wuhan Chinese Curse. Some RL’s seem to completely ignore the thousands of unnecessary deaths due to myocarditis and other ailments. Some realize the government can track vaxed people and are very much for that believing the government should be able to determine where you work, play and travel. Still most leftists (by virtue of being nosey leftists) insist it is their right to tell others what to do. Most all RL’s trust everything the lying government tells them as long as a leftist is in charge because leftists never lie.

At this moment a leftist can banter around any number he wants about lives saved by vaxing or people dead by refusing a vax. Of course no such data si available on how many died from receiving the shot.

As an unvaxxed Negro I refuse to allow the leftist democrat government do to me what they did to Blacks before.
