      Dear Elwood:

      Here’s something you will enjoy.

“Fascinating new scientific evidence has emerged showing stable temperatures in Greenland for at least 60 years, with just a sudden 1°C jump around 1994. The recent findings from a group of environmental meteorologists will cast further doubt on the unproven hypothesis that humans have caused recent changes in the Arctic climate. In a highly detailed paper, the scientists show that the climate changes can be attributed to natural variation caused by two significant air currents.

The scientists report a significant jump in Greenland’s near-surface air temperatures (T2m) around 1994, with relatively stable temperature in the periods before (1958-93) and after (1994-2020). In a crucial finding, the scientists state: ”

I enjoyed the actual article even more than the interpretation by the dailysceptic.

        6. Conclusions
Near-surface air temperature (T2m), especially summer T2m, to a large extent determines the length and intensity of the melt season in Greenland, affecting the mass balance of the ice sheet. In this study, we use observed T2m from DMI stations in the ice-free coastal zone and PROMICE AWS on the ice sheet to evaluate the atmospheric reanalysis ERA5 and the regional climate model RACMO2.3p2 over Greenland. We use the latter product to show that Greenland warming is well represented by a temperature jump of ?1°C in 1994, with relatively constant temperatures before and after. The southwest was the region with the strongest negative T2m anomaly before 1994, whereas the northeast shows a persistent temperature increase after 1994. In terms of seasonal and regional differences in temperature changes, winter shows the strongest warming in 1994. The regional influence of the large-scale circulation, represented by the indices for NAO and GBI, on T2m and changes therein is very strong. The region with the strongest sensitivity is the southwest, with the influence gradually weakening toward the northeast and even weakly reversed in the far coastal northeast.

Future research on near-surface air temperature changes in Greenland should focus on further elucidating these complex relationships that either enhance or limit the response of Greenland climate to global warming.

Yet, the Greenland Ice Sheet continues to lose ice. The ice sheets must not read the dailysceptic.

And they didn’t read it during the Medieval Warming period… You know, around 1000AD when there were no cars and Greenland had settlers…and earth was warmer than now…

    James
You seem to have left out some things of importance in the article you cited. Did you read it in it’s entirety?
The article clearly days the Arctic is warming at a gadget rate than the rest of the planet. Apparently this is not the case for Greenland, which of course is a rather small portion of the area above the Arctic Circle. So why is that area lagging in arise in temps? The article doesn’t say. But my guess is the mile thick ice is going to warm slower than the rest of the Arctic because if the large amount of heat necessary to effect the phase change from solid to liquid.
But thanks for pointing out that interesting factoid about Greenland
And also a big thanks for the people who funded this enlightening study, The Government of China
    ????

  4. H says:

Also James the article cited days that the evolutionary biologist Sudan Crockford claims that polar bears seals whales and penguins in Antarctica have all increased in recent years. I am not an evolutionary biologist having only a high school diploma (but I did graduate in the top 90% of my class) but I do know there aren’t any polar bears in the Antarctic.
Of course actually 90% of my class also graduated Ong with me in the top 90%

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

      H,

Haha. I didn’t read the Sceptic propaganda piece but only the actual technical article.

Polar bears in Antarctica. Brilliant!! Although Susan Crockford is a global warming sceptic, she knows that polar bears are Arctic, but the “propaganda compiler” at the dailysceptic clearly does not. LOL.

  5. H says:

Now James let’s think about the average yearly temp and how it affects ice melt.
If we do have hot summers but super cool the remaining months we will still have high melt levels. The average yearly temp has much less influence on the amount of melting than the higher temps that all scientists agree are now occuring in the melt season.
    Got it?
Remember to always be more skeptical of any days you WANT to believe. That is an important part of critical analysis.

  6. James Lewis says:

    Dear H:

What the article clearly says is:

“The evidence presented in this paper undermines the ‘settled’ science dogma that blames all or most recent changes in global temperatures on the properties of just one trace atmospheric gas.”

    snip

“The Arctic has warmed in recent times at a rate faster than the rest of the planet, although as we can see, in the case of Greenland, the average is almost entirely due to one annual jump 29 years ago. This warming has been leapt on as incontrovertible proof of anthropogenic climate change. It is of course no such thing, not least because there is increasing evidence that such warming is caused by natural forces. The global warming hypothesis that it is all caused by humans remains unproven, without a single credible scientific paper to say otherwise. Professor Lindzen puts it more bluntly, noting that the present “absurd scientific narrative” leaves us with a quasi-religious movement with a constant “Goebellian repetition by the media of climate alarmism”.

” Arctic summer sea ice stopped declining 12 years ago, while the Greenland ice sheet might have increased in size to August 2022 if allowance is made for margins of error….

As for polar bears, I trust they will be swimming in the 25′ of water Gore predicted will cover FL.

And I am just impressed beyond belief of your any talents. Thanks for sharing.

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Conmenter: “The evidence presented in this paper undermines the ‘settled’ science dogma that blames all or most recent changes in global temperatures on the properties of just one trace atmospheric gas.”

The technical article said no such thing. The dailysceptic writer concluded that. This is the problem with relying on unscientific secondary opinion sources.

      In 2012:

“Dr. Lindzen accepts the elementary tenets of climate science. He agrees that carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas, calling people who dispute that point ‘nutty.’ He agrees that the level of it is rising because of human activity and that this should warm the climate.” He also believes that decreasing tropical cirrus clouds in a warmer world will allow more longwave radiation to escape the atmosphere, counteracting the warming.

“If we do have hot summers but super cool the remaining months we will still have high melt levels.”

So I guess we all stop using petro products and CO2 just disappears in them winter.

I guess that you didn’t learn about logic.

A charming young lady tells an invader what’s what!!

  9. H says:

    James
    You are deflecting again.

My point had nothing to do with burning fossil fuels. My point only was that the average temps on the surface of Greenland have little influence how much or how little ice melt occurs during the melt season. “Stable” yearly temps mean little compared to record breaking high temps during the melt season.
Whether you believe or disbelieve that the 80 degree temp record reached recently had anything to do with greenhouse gases is a different question than the volume of ice melt in Greenland

    • James Lewis says:

      Dear H:

You can cheery pick and mouth gibberish but the article is about warming NOT occurring.

Now, it occurs in the summer you say, but it doesn’t happen in the winter.

I guess that ole debbil CO2 takes time off to rest and get ready for next year.

  11. Jl says:

Johnny-what was your point? Of course the real issues isn’t that ice is or isn’t melting, it would be what’s allegedly causing it. The link wouldn’t work here, but numerous papers point to increase short wave radiation due to decreased cloud cover. Hahn et al, 2020. Hofer et al, 2017. Want et al 2018, 2019. Lim et al, 2016. The “theory” of gw said that there would be amphlified warming at both poles, which isn’t the case. The prediction was also of a decrease in polar bear numbers, which again isn’t the case (no matter where they reside).

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

The ice sheets of Antarctica and Greenland keep the immediate areas colder than either the North Pole or the areas around Antarctica. Duh. Antarctic ice is miles deep. The Antarctic peninsula is warming at 5 times the average global rate. The Arctic is also warming faster than the global mean. So yes, both the Arctic and Antarctic are warming.

Polar bears are only found in the Arctic. There are 19 polar bear subpopulations. Two are increasing. Four are decreasing. The rest are considered stable or of insufficient data. Most polar bears are in Canada.

      • Jl says:

Uh, no. And again the issue really isn’t alleged warming, but the cause said alleged warming ://notrickszone.com/2021/09/27/more-evidence-antarctica-has-been-cooling-regional-sea-ice-increasing-for-over-40-years/

        • Elwood P. Dowd says:

So now the warming is alleged?? LOL. Denier.

        • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Uh yes, both poles are warming.

The cause is the retention of infrared radiation from the Earth heading out to deep space. And why? Because of increases in atmospheric CO2 and other greenhouse gases.

The median increase (five global databases including the 2 satellites) is 0.19 °C/decade.

Deniers claim that it has cooled the past 8 years!! Only because of massive warm peaks in 2016 and 2020. The next strong El Nino will result in the highest mean temperature in recorded history. This is Denier 101. They start their countdown on a strong El Nino peak (e.g., 1998, 2016) and then claim global warming has ended until the next El Nino!!

  12. Jl says:

And then we have a Nature (that right wing publication) article referencing a Schaefer 2016 et al paper that alleges Greenland was 90% ice free for an approximate 280,000 year time period during the Pleistocene when CO2 was about 280ppm.
    Nature 540 252-255 (2016)
There’s nothing new under the sun except in the minds of alarmists

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

In the entire history of Earth, there’s no reason to believe that greenhouse gases are the only factor that influences climate. Major changes in climate result from shifts in the orbit and inclination of the Earth. These changes are responsible for the transitions from glacial to interglacial periods. It is believed that some 66 million years ago an asteroid strike caused multiyear global cooling. Large volcanic eruptions cool the Earth for a year or so. Major changes in sustained ocean currents can shift the distribution of heat on Earth. The reflectivity (albedo) can change the amount of the Sun’s energy absorbed.

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Reactionaries consider all scientific journals to be leftist. It makes it easier to deny data.

Most what nuCons believe today is untrue. The election was rigged! The Earth is not warming! SARS-CoV-2 was created in the Wuhan Institute of Virology! The vaccines don’t work! Tax cuts for the rich decrease the deficit! Democrats are communists trying to replace white patriots with Mexican voters!

      You’re slipping fast.

  13. Elwood P. Dowd says:

Approximately? LOL. WattsUp.. LOL, LOL!! Susan F. Crockford? LOL, LOL, LOL.

    For the Chukchi Sea subpopulation… a 2016 capture-recapture survey generated a
population size of about 3,000 (range 1522–5944)..

“Approximately doesn’t begin to describe it!!”

There is no good “estimate” of how many polar bears exist. Crockford uses the opinions of the indigenous groups.

Some subpopulations appear to be increasing, some decreasing, some stable and many can’t be determined.
