It’s clear that the girl in the photo is on the fence about whether the Arctic will be ice-free in the summers of ten years ago, in that she’s wearing some very nice shorts, in case it’s too hot, but hedging her bets with leggings and long sleeves.

Senate Cuts Joe Manchin’s Permitting Proposal From Short-Term Funding Bill
Move clears way for passage of package, which includes new aid for Ukraine
By Katy Stech Ferek | Updated Sept. 27, 2022 5:39 pm ET

WASHINGTON—Sen. Joe Manchin (D., W.Va..) on Tuesday threw in the towel on including his contentious proposal to speed up permitting of energy projects in a must-pass funding bill, clearing the way for the Senate to advance the legislation needed to keep the government open.

Lawmakers from both parties have criticized the Manchin proposal, with Republicans saying it didn’t go far enough to remove permitting hurdles so that energy projects can be built quickly. Democrats worried that speeding up oil and gas projects could risk damaging ecosystems and compromise the health of nearby residents.

The permitting changes were included in a 237-page continuing resolution that would extend current government funding levels until Dec. 16 and prevent a partial shutdown this weekend, when the fiscal year ends.

The resolution also contains more than $12 billion in aid to Ukraine to help fortify the country’s military with new weapons and support the government in Kyiv as it fights off Russia’s invasion.

The announcement was made just ahead of a planned vote on the short-term spending bill, which had appeared headed for defeat if the Manchin proposal remained attached. The resolution needs 60 votes in the evenly divided Senate to advance and also needs to be approved by the House.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) had put Mr. Manchin’s proposal on the resolution to fulfill a promise that he made to Mr. Manchin earlier this year. In exchange, Mr. Manchin agreed to vote for the Democrats’ climate, healthcare and tax proposal, which is now law and gave a boost to President Biden’s agenda before November midterm elections.

The sad part is that it will get sixty votes in the Senate, because at least ten Republican squishes will vote for it.

    The concluding paragraph:

If no funding bill is passed, a partial government shutdown would occur. A shutdown would trigger furloughs for hundreds of thousands of federal workers, but critical functions such as border security, benefits payments and airport operations would continue.

If a government function isn’t “critical,” it shouldn’t be funded at all.

Only right wing extremist, White supremacist, womyn hating, Islamophobe, insurrectionist, semi fascist deplorables clinging to their guns and Bibles believe like that.

What’s next, a march for Life? You radical!!

      Welcome to the club.

MAGA Oh yeah, and people who believe in God, family and country. Obvious subversives.

So the federal gov’t should only continue funding border security, Social Security payments and airports?

And since under Brandon we have completely “open borders”, there is no border security to fund.

Perhaps a few more things, such as the military, but the vast majority of the things the federal government does should be state and local functions, if they should be government functions at all.

We got along without a federal Department of Education for 201 years; why would we need one now? One thing is obvious: our educational system has not improved since the federal Department of Education was created!

We got along quite well without the Housing and Urban Development, Health and Human Services and Transportation departments for the majority of our history; we shouldn’t need them now. The Department of Fatherland Security should be eliminated.

        • The Liberal but not libertarian Elwood P. Dowd says:

The Lib from Lexington must be incredibly frustrated living in an America where well over half our taxes go for welfare payments – Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

          • L'Roy White says:

I don’t know about how “the Lib from Lexington” feels about that but a a victim of those achievement destroying programs. I watch people perfectly capable of productive accomplishment walk the streets in drug stupors, drunk out of their minds on booze, or just looking for their next illegal chance to get something for nothing.

Again, you leftists don’t have to live with these worthless layabouts, we do. They have been programed for failure with no ambition since the day the leftist abortionists skipped over them for genocidal racist killing.

They achieve nothing, they accomplish nothing, they advance no one nor benefit any but themselves. They are the product of Welfare and all those leftist programs that it encompasses.

Basically the left has ruined several generations of black Americans with free money and now with undeserved racist special selection from AA to quotas.

I’m black. Not Kamala Harris black, not Danny Glover black. I’m in between around Will Smith black. So I’ve seen my share of lazy slobs, druggies and bums living off my hard earned money.

You may not realize it Elwood but the taxes taken for Social Security and Medicare are used by the TAX PAYERS who paid for them. It’s their money. Medicare is a medical safety net that I have never heard anyone complain about though I’m sure someone has. I do know Medicare is awash in fraud and corruption and has been since always.

Welfare is a handout not a hand up. It should be limited in time allowed to collect and kept very low to encourage initiative.

But that’s just the opinion of a old black guy who worked as a janitor, custodian, plumber and trash collector but NEVER accepted welfare. And whose wife works as a housekeeper, social worker and nurse and she never accepted welfare either.

We are proud to be Americans. We are proud of our family. We are proud to be honest citizens. That’s why we are proud NOT to be Democrats. We don’t need masters. We need social partners to grow our community and country.

Which is why we proudly want to Make America Great Again.

P.S. Thanks to you who voiced condolences for Sister Mary’s grand daughter. They pray for you also. God bless.
