NY Times: Vaccines And Natural Immunity Keep COVID Deaths Low

In case you didn’t know, COVID has surged under Biden yet again, but, it’s typically a lower news priority because a) they were focused on Ukraine, b) they were focused on Jan 6 (which people do not care about. Only 9% are watching it closely), and c) Americans are over it, and refuse to allow all the restrictions and mandates and such. They let us in on something interesting

Covid Cases Surge, but Deaths Stay Near Lows

For two years, the coronavirus killed Americans on a brutal, predictable schedule: A few weeks after infections climbed so did deaths, cutting an unforgiving path across the country.

But that pattern appears to have changed. Nearly three months since an ultra-contagious set of new Omicron variants launched a springtime resurgence of cases, people are nonetheless dying from Covid at a rate close to the lowest of the pandemic.

The spread of the virus and the number of deaths in its wake, two measures that were once yoked together, have diverged more than ever before, epidemiologists said. Deaths have ticked up slowly in the northeastern United States, where the latest wave began, and are likely to do the same nationally as the surge pushes across the South and West. But the country remains better fortified against Covid deaths than earlier in the pandemic, scientists said.

Because so many Americans have now been vaccinated or infected or both, they said, the number of people whose immune systems are entirely unprepared for the virus has significantly dwindled.

It is great that the death rate is so low, but, did you notice the NY Times mentioned natural immunity? Weren’t we told that natural immunity is no good? That it really wasn’t in play? That it meant nothing? That unless you took the vaccine you were doomed and weren’t allowed to go in public? Couldn’t work your job? Couldn’t be part of the military? Couldn’t travel?

Of course, being the NY Times, they still want to pimp vaccination and downplay natural immunity

With the country’s resources for fighting the virus drying up and many Americans forgoing booster shots, the decoupling of cases and deaths may not last. Immunity will wane and a more evasive variant could cut into people’s residual protection against severe disease.

Vaccination is not a bad idea, but, really, it’s essentially a flu shot, which do not mean you don’t get the flu, it’s just typically not as bad. The COVID vaccines do not seem to be stopping people from getting it, just minimizing the effects. And they do not seem to last, which means you need more and more. And the new variants seem to be evading vaccination

The country paid a staggering price: Some 200,000 people were killed by Covid this winter and large numbers beyond that were seriously sickened. But those who survived infections emerged with immune systems that had learned to better deal with the virus.

And back to natural immunity. Funny how they do not mention who was president, when more were dying of COVID, even with all the vaccines and mitigations. Also, notice how deaths are so low despite almost no mask mandates, and Biden’s vaccine mandate being killed off.

  1. Elwood P. Dowd says:

Mx Teach missed that the poll showing only 9% followed the Jan 6 commission closely, but “58% of Americans think Trump should be charged with a crime for his role in the riot”. True dat.

Democracy is the radical redistribution of political power.

In theory, democracy is supposed to confiscate power from the class of people who rule by right of blood (or in today’s terms, who rule by right of money). Democracy pushes power downward, so the people may determine their nation’s direction and fate in the name of the people.

Anyway, no one said that natural immunity was no good as Mx Teach gaslights. It’s just that natural Covid killed over 1 million Americans, with the unvaccinated to be most affected. I’m in the age bracket where most of the deaths occur, was vaccinated, and also subsequently had asymptomatic Covid. To your chagrin, vaccination may have saved my life!

    According to the Commonwealth Fund:

From the start of the US vaccination campaign through the end of November 2021, (trump’s!) Covid-19 vaccines prevented about 1.1 million deaths and 10.3 million hospitalizations in the United States

Natural immunity comes at a cost. Despite right-wing lies, trump’s vaccination program cost much less than 1.1 million deaths and 10.3 million hospitalizations. Teach would prefer another 1.1 million Americans die than to admit that vaccines save lives.

We’ve always been flummoxed by the right-wing aversion to vaccinations. Is it just a product of the knee-jerk disdain conservatives have for scientific inquiry?

In record time, scientists went from discovering a new virus to unpacking its genome to developing multiple effective ways to prevent and treat it, fueling what may be the largest public health effort in history.

These discoveries and the development of mRNA vaccines will save millions as lives in the next pandemic.

      Which crime? A crime?

It is a good thing we do not dole out justice based upon polling or else there would be far fewer people on this planet and a whole lot of innocent men and women in prison or worse.

However, I can say that if 9 percent of the people are watching something on TV and 18 percent is the normal amount of people watching CBS, and NBC(their data, not mine) That is a significant drop that means something.

POLLS indicate Trump should be convicted of a crime? Such as? Regardless of what you tell your close aides and how many of those shitheads write books to enrich themselves, Trump did nothing wrong other than bitch and bellyache about the election being stolen from him.

Remember when Trump picks up the phone there are always a couple of dozen people listening on one side or the other. IF that is so then I am sure WE would have had ample evidence to Imprison the president long before today.

Or maybe not. Perhaps Trump is guilty of something. If he is then the most investigated president and ex-president EVER is sure a slippery man to have nothing show up after a hundred million dollars and thousands of investigators digging up dirt on him.

Where is the evidence? I mean seriously. You can twist and turn anything to make it sound bad, but in a court….where is the evidence to land Trump in deep doo doo?

Me thinkst the left are in to too many conspiracy theories but you need to take a tip from the real pros about conspiracy theories. You have to make them broad enough as to not be pinned down on what you believer or what you would do. Saul Alinsky and all….Remember?

      • The Liberal but not libertarian Elwood P. Dowd says:

You should ask the 58% what crime(s) they think then president trump committed.

So far, 1)obstructing the work of Congress and 2)conspiring to defraud the United States, both related to the conspiracy by trump and his co-conspirators to steal the 2020 election.

He was recorded asking the Georgia Sec State to find him 11,780 votes for the win there.

“The people of Georgia are angry. The people of the country are angry, and there’s nothing wrong with saying that, you know, that you’ve recalculated. All I want to do is this: I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have… Fellas, I need 11,000 votes, give me a break.”

Trump conspired to have VP Pence illegally refuse to certify the election. Even on Jan 6 trump said and twittered that VP Pence lacked the “courage” to overthrow President Biden’s election results. Classy move, DonJon. IF VP Pence HAD refused to certify the legal vote and accepted the fake Republican electors or sent it back to the states it would surely have caused an unprecedented constitutional crisis. Even with a violent mob 40 feet away, VP Pence stood up for America and the Constitution.

The decision on whether to prosecute trump is a political one, perhaps one the AG is reluctant to wade into.

        • Facts Matter says:

AS I thought you have no idea what crime he committed.

The decision on whether to prosecute trump is a political one, perhaps one the AG is reluctant to wade into.

COULD THAT BE LIKE BURR REFUSING TO WADE INTO STOLEN ELECTIONS????

Nothing you listed is a crime. The head of the J6 commission has already said nothing they produce will result in an indictment of the president.

The chair of the House committee investigating the Capitol riot said Monday night that the panel will not make any criminal referrals, even though its leaders have previously hinted at the possibility of doing so. “Our job is to look at the facts and circumstances around January 6 — what caused it — and make recommendations after that,” Chair Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., told reporters as he left the House chamber after the second day of public hearings by the panel.

OH MY! Trump did nothing wrong. He did not instigate the 300 or so lunatics who fought with capitol police on J6. He called for his supporters to MARCH Peacefully and make your voices known.

I wonder, Is it not a criminal offense to picket judges? JOE BIDEN is COMPLICIT in ENCOURAGINT THE BREAKING OF THE LAW.

“I know that there is an outrage right now about protests that have been peaceful to date,” Psaki said in a May 10 press briefing. “We certainly continue to encourage that outside of judge’s homes.”

ITS against the LAW to protest outside of judges homes. PERIOD.

DOWD is so full of hate that he cannot see past his own nose at what his side is doing that is filling the country with insurrectionist attitudes.

Several staffers from Stephen Colbert’s late-night CBS talk show got busted at the U.S. Capitol … after they allegedly made an unlawful entry into the building.

OH WAIT>>>>>THEY WERE INVITED IN….SO THAT MAKES IT OKAY.

Just like on J6 most of the so-called insurrectionists were allowed in even going so far as showing film of police opening the doors and waving them inside.

Get a grip Dowd. You must face your greatest fear. 6 more years of TRUMP, 4 of which will be from the white house. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL…..at best they might get him on not applying for a permit in NYC for the millions of tax dollars he gave that communist city. I think this time around we might just have our own warehouses filled with homeless people filling out ballots and stuffing them in drop boxes for TRUMP and His new VP……Sarah Palin.
