As I said, The real measure of this will be month to month total deaths by all causes. The covid deaths right now are likely confounded by normal levels of death from the flu and other related old-age deaths. As the saying goes, if you live long enough, something is going to kill you.
All I know, Professor, with my limited expeience with the Chinese Flu is that the one and only person I know who actually caught the thing in a nursing home was an 80 something Korean guy who died of heart failure but was logged as dying from Red Flu. He had it, but he didn’t die from it. But as usual when dealing with leftists and the NARRATIVE they desire Truth is the first casualty. After compiling data for the top 30 countries with the most cases of the coronavirus, here are the top ten countries by confirmed cases per capita (per million) based on the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University’s data as of 11:00 am ET on April 18, 2020.

It is difficult to not see how the government of New York City did itself not contribute to the rate of infections and ultimately the deaths of people from COVID-19.
While the Federal government and states were all saying “whoa….we have a problem,†New York City put their citizens at risk by saying “there is nothing to see here…move along….go to a restaurant and see a show!â€

I doubt the mutterings of politicians on either side had anything at all to do with the spread of COVID. NYC is the epicenter because of its high density of international travelers (immigrants from mostly Asia) and the natural consequence of high density living and the elderly.

So all those incidents I noted had nothing to do with the spread of the Red Plague? Just coincidence all the Democommies in NYC at the time were preachin’ “go out side, ride the subway, all is well”? Okay then, we’re of different opinions.
I simply don’t believe that people listen to politicians and follow their suggestions unless it becomes an enforced action. Everyone who wanted to go to a festival or restaurant did, and everyone who didn’t want to stayed home. No one changed their plans to accommodate a mayor or governor. What mattered was cancelling things and closing stores. Then people couldn’t go there even if they wanted to. And by “mattered” I simply mean it resulted in changed behavior.
At this point, it is unprovable either way. I speculate there was already going to be strong spreading of the virus in NYC and it was already loose before NYC said anything about it. The fact is, quarantines only work if you have advanced warning and ruthless enforcement. The modern world has neither of those conditions. Even in China, the Chinese government gave a 24 hour warning before quarantine went into effect so that politically connected people and their families could escape the hot zone, and thus spread it throughout the world. We have lots of evidence of people inside the hot zone simply bribing their way out. It’s a very traditional Chinese way of getting things done. Even with perfect enforcement and warning, there are always workers at the boundary of the zone (guards,etc) who are potential carriers of the germs from inside the zone to outside.
