Democrats Ready For Hearings Over Trump Saying “Fake News”

I thought this was an early April Fools gag from Breitbart’s Justin Caruso, something he wrote in anticipation of April 1 and hit the post button by accident then went to sleep. Nope

Democrats Prepare Congressional Hearings over Trump Saying ‘Fake News’

Congressional Democrats are planning to hold hearings about President Trump’s criticisms of establishment news outlets, according to a new report.

Bloomberg News reports that the House Judiciary Committee, which is currently led by Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), will seek to investigate Trump calling the media “fake news” and “enemies of the people.”

“The committee will study whether such actions either reflect or blur the Constitution’s separation of powers,” the report states.

The president’s repeated declarations that the “fake news” media is the “enemy of the people” has indeed upset many Democrats and media figures.

Possible 2020 hopeful and media darling Beto O’Rourke used the line to attack Trump and Republicans in 2018, accusing him of inciting violence against the media.

Let’s see this at Bloomberg, which notes that there are other things being investigated because Trump has been Mean

House Democrats are opening an investigation into what they say are abuses of power by President Donald Trump through his attacks on the courts, the Justice Department, the FBI and the media, according to a House official familiar with the plans.

Topics for the inquiry will include Trump’s public humiliation of former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, his attacks on actions by the liberal Ninth Circuit Court and his abuse of reporters as “dishonest” and “enemies of the people,” said the person, who asked for anonymity to discuss sensitive matters. (snip)

The official said there are questions about whether Trump, through some of his actions, is going too far and undermining the rule of law, a reference to established and defined limits on the arbitrary exercise of power.

Nadler is opening the investigation in part because his committee is responsible for defending the rule of law, said the official. Issues will include determining in what circumstances, if any, Congress should take steps to curb some of Trump’s actions, and how that might be accomplished.

So, some people are Butthurt, and want Congress to Do Something, which, get this, would in fact directly violate the 1st Amendment in multiple way. The President is still afforded the protections, and “Congress shall pass no law…”.

As for the separation of powers thing, I’m as in the dark as you are. It’s mentioned at the Bloomberg article at the end, but, not explained. How does Trump saying fake news and criticizing the press and others violate that? No idea.

    FTW.

    U.S. GDP grew by 3.1% in 2018.

    Investigate that. https://www.thepiratescove.us/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_cool.gif

Almost as good as 2015’s 3.8%!! But lower than Trump’s promised 4% or more!!

Note too that the economy is now cooling. 2018 is likely Trump’s best year unless the GOPhers enact more massive tax cuts, increase spending even more and increase the deficits. Remember when Cons used to object to massive debt. Good times…

      • Liljeffyatemypuppy says:

Of course nignorant is wrong again and more nignorant than usual but fact checking is difficult… https://www.thepiratescove.us/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_cool.gif

        • Lilpuppyatemyazz says:

You are wrong again. 3.8%, 2014-2015. You could look it up.

        • Lilpuppyatemyazz says:

Did you even look at the link you cited? LOL.

See that peak in the graph in 2015? See how it’s almost touching the 4% line?

Go lick your balls, lil puppy.

          • Liljeffyatemypuppy says:

Now we know you lied again and got caught. Thanks little dumbass for proving it.https://www.thepiratescove.us/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_cool.gif

          • Lilpuppyatemyazz says:

The link YOU shared to support your falsehood confirms what I said all along.

            3.8% in 2015. Facts matter.

            …. Pigs enjoy mud-wrestling …

            Buh-bye, Gracie.

          • Liljeffyatemypuppy says:

“Almost touching the line”… is now consider fact?
Fact is annualized GDP for 2015 was measured and reported at 2.9%. Taking 2 quarters and claiming it represented annualized growth is not only misleading but lying.
How does it feel to be so wron little dumbass? https://www.thepiratescove.us/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_cool.gif

Once again, Harvey pulls stats out of her ass.

Zippy’s GDP hovered at 1 the whole 8 maudlin years.

Unless, of course, you cite your claim.

And, when you start talking about increasing spending, you endorse debt.

        • Lilpuppyatemyazz says:

We’ll leave The Wiz and lil puppy alone, they’ve suffered enough. Your own friggin’ links prove you’re wrong.

We really can’t believe anything coming out of the Fake News these days. I read last week that “Average Tax Refunds Down 8.4 Percent As Angry Taxpayers Vent… “stunned by the consequences of the Trump administration’s tax law …” according to the Huffington Post. Turns out they lied, knew they were lying and now quietly changed their stand after the harm of their Fake News did its job.

Personally I earned about the same in 2018 as I did in 2017 and I paid $1,800 less in taxes. No earth shaking amount but it is something. I can’t run out and buy a new Cadillac but that $1,800 is better in my pocket than Dyslexia Occasional-Cotex’s boyfriend’s.

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

We should always strive to tell the truth, and the media IS misleading all about the refunds. Smaller tax refunds are actually GOOD. All things being equal, smaller refunds can mean larger paychecks (less taken out each paycheck).

The media couldn’t be any dumber than they are on economics. People upset that their refunds are smaller than expected are misinformed about economics.

      • Liljeffyatemypuppy says:

Yet the little fella incorrectly states U.S. GDP growth rate for 2015 was 3.8% and wants to lecture others about economics. LOL. https://www.thepiratescove.us/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_cool.gif

      • Kye says:

I didn’t say “refund”, I stated I paid $1,800 less in taxes in 2018 than 2017. I don’t get refunds, I pay quarterly and only pay what I owe. My actual taxes paid went down by $1,800. Again, not earth shattering but I like it.

        • Elwood P. Dowd says:

We didn’t direct our comment at you personally, but to the “Average Tax Refunds Down 8.4 Percent As Angry Taxpayers Vent…”

Refunds are largely irrelevant as you pointed out.

          • formwiz says:

First Jessica says Smaller tax refunds are actually GOOD. All things being equal, smaller refunds can mean larger paychecks (less taken out each paycheck).

            Now she says they’re irrelevant.

The Wile E Coyote of economics rides again.

      • formwiz says:

All things being equal, smaller refunds can mean larger paychecks (less taken out each paycheck).

Then stop withholding altogether. Better yet, get rid of the income tax and cut the government down to size.

And those lower refunds mean the Trump tax cut lets them keep more of their own money.

The media couldn’t be any dumber than they are on economics. People upset that their refunds are smaller than expected are misinformed about economics.</i.

Is there “consensus” on economics, too?
