CNN Source Claims Officer Wilson Does Not Have Broken Eye Socket

There are three interesting things in this

(The Blaze) CNN on Thursday, citing an anonymous source close to the investigation, reported that Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson did not suffer a fractured eye socket prior to fatally shooting 18-year-old Michael Brown earlier this month. The report directly contradicts a recent Fox News story, which also cites an anonymous source “close to the [police] department’s top brass.”

CNN anchor Don Lemon reported on Thursday that Wilson did go to the hospital with swelling around his face and eyes, but an X-ray came back negative for a fracture to his orbital bone.

“That source says it is not true, at all, he did not have a torn eye socket,” Lemon said. “Unequivocally.”

Not quite sure what a “torn eye socket” is

Responding to Lemon’s reporting, Nancy Grace said her sources have been telling her from the “get-go” that there was a scuffle between Wilson and Brown.

“I really don’t know if we’re going to know what any of this is, or the truth of it, until it comes out in court,” she added.

So, let’s see: first, Officer Wilson might not have broken eye socket, but he apparently had been hit in the face. Which would still give credence that the “gentle giant” assaulted an officer of the law. Second, CNN has apparently known that there was some sort of violence perpetrated against Officer Wilson. Why were they waiting so long to let us know about this? Did they not think it relevant to let the people know that Michael Brown wasn’t quite the gentle giant they and others portrayed him as?

Third, Grace makes a great point: what for the info to come out in court. Which would, I assume, be from the Grand Jury. Unless she’s calling for Officer Wilson to be prosecuted?

There seems to be a pattern:

  1. unarmed young black guy is shot,
  2. there is a vast media outcry over the young “honor student’s” death,
  3. family provides photos of the dead guy taken when he was 11 years old, well before he had opted for the ghetto thug look,
  4. it comes out that the “honor student” has been committing felonies,
  5. witnesses say the honor student was beating the hell out of the person who shot him,
  6. Democrat politicians call for the shooter’s conviction, and
  7. prosecutors, fearing rioting, black voters, or what have you, prosecute the shooter anyway.

Have I missed anything?

Yes, he has missed something, namely, the part where Leftists use the issue as a political football, much as they’ve used other incidents. From the get go, most Conservatives have said “wait for the details to come out”. We weren’t taking the side of Brown or Wilson (the police going overboard in respect to the protests is a separate issue), but we did know that whenever the Left goes nuts on an issue like this, they are often proven wrong once the full information comes out. And, then, when the information does come out, the Left will ignore the issue, and stick with irrational, fact-free talking points, much like they did in the Zimmerman/Trayvon incident. They will use the incident to complain about some “wider problem in America”.

If there is a “wider problem in America”, it should be noted that these problems are the direct result of 50+ years of Liberal/Progressive/Democrat policies, particularly as they apply to urbanized areas and Blacks.

That’s an interesting comment from Nancy Grace considering her comments on the Duke Lacrosse case which were basically “hang ’em.”

I wonder whether Grace learned a lesson from the Duke case and that is driving her opinion. I hope so.

  2. Jeffery says:

“From the get go, most Conservatives have said “wait for the details to come out”.

Bull. Conservatives have taken every opportunity to smear Brown and lionize the Officer.

Just recall that the odious jimhoft started the broken eye socket falsehood. Will he publish a retraction? The odious jimhoft never apologizes; the odious jimhoft never retracts; the odious jimhoft doubles down.

  3. gitarcarver says:

    Jeffery,

Are you saying that one person is “most” conservatives?

Have you not been reading what has been said here on this blog? (That’s rhetorical. We know the answer.)

While Gateway Pundit may have gotten the eye socket post wrong, even CNN is now saying that Wilson went to the hospital because of facial injuries.

If you really want to talk about bias and mis-perceptions, look to the left of center.

  4. david7134 says:

    Jeff,
I don’t understand your comments. It is a given that Brown was a thug. But he is portrayed as a kind sole who was going to college. If you believe that, then come down here and lets stroll through some neighborhoods, I can assure you that your chance of living would be slim. The kid was breaking the law at the time he confronted the cops. He was walking down the middle of a busy street. He was asking for trouble. Then when the cop confronts him, he does the really smart thing of hitting the cop in the face. The facts will later come out as to how bad this was. One thing I tell my kids is that if you hit a cop, your prognosis for then next few minutes is poor. The cop then gets out of his car and draws his gun, which it is suspected had been grabbed by the honor student Brown. In fact, it went off in the police car. Brown apparently halts from his running from the cop on the cop’s command and turns and taunts him. Brown is not shot in the back. Then it gets iffy, as to if Brown was submitting. But if you are submitting, you don’t get a bullet hole in the top of your head. So, putting the character of Brown with his actions suggest he likely charged the cop. Now what would you do with a 300 pound, 6’2″ thug charging you? Would you simply talk to him? Maybe you would ask if he wanted to share a beer? Or maybe you would start shooting until he stopped. Having taken a blow to the face, you likely have sluggish responses and eye sight. Any way you look at this, Brown got the trouble he was looking for.

Now, conservatives would agree that we have a cop problem. A white kid was killed in Salt Lake City last week by a black cop when the kid was not a treat at all. Just a case of mistaken identity and a cop who was over reacting. But you don’t know that, you don’t know that a few month ago a cop killed a white guy that was beating him in the face. So yes, we have a cop problem. We have cops over-reacting. We have cops thinking they are in the military and carrying machine guns. We don’t need that we need them to de-militarize and if they get hurt on the job, well that is what they are paid for, by the way the have one of the safest jobs in the US. We have a president that does not respect the law. We have an attorney general who thinks he is a black man and not the chief law enforcement office.

But at the end of the day, we do not have discrimination of whites against blacks. We have blacks discriminating against whites and blacks that will not take responsibility for their actions. No, not all blacks are like that or like Brown, but 80% are. I know as I work with these people and they are not like the rest of us. Representing 13% of the population, they are responsible for 60% of the crime and violence. Blacks have not been discriminated against for 50 years, slavery was 150 years ago. They have no excuse for their poor social performance.

  5. Jeffery says:

I didn’t mean to imply that the odious jimhoft represents all conservatives. After all, he is the worst of the worst. That said, his blog is one of the most widely read by conservatives so I assume most aren’t too bothered by his Stormfront-lite approach. The odious jimhoft’s fingerprints are on most far-right falsehoods that become conservadogma.

Conservapundits are running post after post about Mr. Brown’s past, his song stylings, his thug-wear, leaks about traces of THC in his bloodstream. Conservapundits have been breathlessly repeating every leak from the police departments about Wilson’s purported injuries and his purported spotless record and the purported supportive witnesses. The AG comes to town to help to insure a fair investigation and conservapundits attack him as racist. Papers are running stories on how hard this is on Wilson, and that he’s fearful.

To many conservatives, Wilson is a hero for killing another dangerous “thug”, and on the slight chance that Wilson is indicted after shooting an unarmed man, the conservatives will cry and moan about the injustice of it all (but not protest, as conservatives are too afraid of authority).

Why not wait for the results of the investigation?

This is the core of modern conservative-follower belief, but only david has the balls to actually say it anymore. Conservatives lack the courage of their convictions – but with a gun, you don’t need much courage.

No one said that you did. However, your comment was said to refute Teach’s statement of “most conservatives have said to ‘wait until the details come out.'”

Jim Hoft is not “most conservatives” as you implied.

It was wrong when you said it and it is wrong now. You claim that Hoft would never issue a retraction (even though the Washington Post has a source saying the same thing on the orbital socket) yet you aren’t saying that your statement was wrong even though it clearly is.

Where is your retraction of your misstatement?

In attacking conservatives, are you really trying to say that Liberal pundits aren’t talking about how innocent a child Brown was? How he was coldly gunned down?

Why not ask liberal and Democrat governor Nixon to wait for the results of the investigation? Or are you satisfied with his call to prosecute Wilson before all the evidence has been collected and the investigation has been finished?

Why not talk to the Black Panthers who called for the death of Wilson?

Or are you not willing to shine the same light on the left as you want shined on the right?

So if the rest of conservatives are silent because they don’t believe the pablum that david spews forth, that means we all believe what he says? Even though we have said to him before his views are not accurate?

You can’t argue with that thinking, because there is none in your logic.

Conservatives lack the courage of their convictions

Really Jeffery? The military – the people who put their lives on the line for this country – are overwhelmingly conservative.

David is a person who sees the world in the terms of race. He is a racist. The only difference between you and david is that his racist views are said to be from the right. Your racist views and opinions are from the left.

Like it or not, when you two look in the racial mirror, you see each other.

  10. gitarcarver says:

Oh john, you really have no clue, do you?

Teach the police are also now saying that the first shots fired were fired when his back was turned and he was walking/running away the witnesses said he then turned around raised his hands and was then shot and killed

If Brown was running away, Wilson was legally allowed to use deadly force as per Missouri law:

563.046. 1. A law enforcement officer need not retreat or desist from efforts to effect the arrest, or from efforts to prevent the escape from custody, of a person he reasonably believes to have committed an offense because of resistance or threatened resistance of the arrestee. In addition to the use of physical force authorized under other sections of this chapter, he is, subject to the provisions of subsections 2 and 3, justified in the use of such physical force as he reasonably believes is immediately necessary to effect the arrest or to prevent the escape from custody.

    2. The use of any physical force in making an arrest is not justified under this section unless the arrest is lawful or the law enforcement officer reasonably believes the arrest is lawful.

    3. A law enforcement officer in effecting an arrest or in preventing an escape from custody is justified in using deadly force only

    (1) When such is authorized under other sections of this chapter; or

    (2) When he reasonably believes that such use of deadly force is immediately necessary to effect the arrest and also reasonably believes that the person to be arrested

    (a) Has committed or attempted to commit a felony; or

    (b) Is attempting to escape by use of a deadly weapon; or

    (c) May otherwise endanger life or inflict serious physical injury unless arrested without delay.

Wilson may or may not have been aware of the first felony – the strong arm robbery at the QuikTrip – but he was definitely aware of a second felony when Brown attacked him in the car as witnesses reported.

Under those set of circumstances, Wilson was allowed to fire at and shoot the fleeing Brown.

The story the police leak keeps changing but we still have no official incident report which us very strange

What are you talking about? Witness statements are never released while an investigation is still ongoing.

This is normally written and filed immediately

This is one place where I have problems with police being involved in alleged crimes. Police are often not interviewed immediately or interviewed when first available. These provisions are often contractual with police unions. When accused of a crime or when there is an investigation of a possible crime involving an officer, the officer should be treated just as any citizen when it comes to interrogations and statements.

That being said, the statements are still going to be protected under Missouri law until the investigation is closed. That is the way it should be as you want people to tell what they saw, not what they read in the paper when a statement from someone else is released.

Finally, there is another thing that came out today:

Dorian Johnson (the friend of Brown) has a conviction for lying to police in another jurisdiction in connection with another robbery. This is confirmed by Johnson’s attorneys.

There are going to be people that will say “see? This just goes to show he is a liar!”

There are those who are going to say “see? The police are just trying to smear him!”

The problem is that Johnson’s own actions have now brought his credibility into play. It won’t matter in front of a grand jury, but it will matter to a criminal jury as character of witnesses is fertile ground.

You can talk all you want John as to how the police’s story is “unraveling,” (just how is unclear because you don’t know what you are talking about,) but right now, there is no doubt that the only witness to the robbery and the killing is a liar. His credibility is highly suspect now.

The problem is that if people just would tell the truth (and that means everyone from people like Johnson to cops like Wilson) a lot of this type of crap would go away.

  11. jl says:

J-“Just recall that the odious Jim Hoft started the broken eye-socket falsehood.” I love your debate technique- say “odious” as many times as you can. Good job. Anyway, are you sure it’s a falsehood? I guess I missed the part where you named the odious person who started the false “shot in the back” story. Or are you just a big hypocrite?

  12. david7134 says:

    Jeff, Guitar,
I am a racist. I am glad to find that out. But I have no problem with that as the same people that say with scorn identify them as bigots and prejudicial. Thus, little different than the racist. If you can not see that their is a problem in the black community and that they hate, I mean truly hate whites, then you are doing a them a disservice. Their are problems in that community and by turning a blind eye to it, you compound the problems. Then ask yourself, what experiences do I have that would have me identify race as a determining character in pre-judging as situation. Maybe I have had blacks try to mug me, not once, but several times. Maybe I was penned down by a black sniper and had the pull people into an ambulance under fire. Maybe I have been in cross fire from black criminals. I could go on and on. Fact is black and white will stay separated until whites wake up to the fact that their are problems with that segment of our society and work to change it.

  13. gitarcarver says:

    david,

I have worked in areas that are predominately black. I have worked in areas that are predominately white. I have worked in poor areas and in rich areas. I have been on the open end of a gun while a black person robbed me. I have had black friends that were killed in a robbery by whites.

You see the color of a person’s skin and you think that determines how they think and feel. You seem to think that it is bred in a black person to hate or to commit crimes. (So much for your touted medical education.)

That is so stupid and ridiculous that it you should just stop even trying to say that you are a conservative and just move in with the liberal side of the KKK.

We will never change this country until we realize that it is not the color of a man’s skin, but what is in their heart that drives them.

It is not a black / white / yellow / brown / green or purple thing, david. The Bible has a simple name for it: sin.

Until you realize that, you are part of the problem, not a part of the solution.

  14. david7134 says:

    Guitar,
Sorry but you are wrong. You can easily look up information about differences in race. First violence, on a world wide basis, blacks are likely to commit a violent act 300% more than any other race. In the US, the number is 700%. Then in crime in general, black constitute 13% of the population but are responsible for over 60% of criminal acts. And this is not even taking into consideration the great leeway that they are given because of their skin. Most people that I know in authority will not call blacks on their actions. Then there is IQ, blacks have an IQ that is 20 units lower that average. If they are raised in a white family, the IQ might go up by 13 points, but the standard deviation for IQ is 15. So that is an insignificant number. Then there is affirmative action. We do not require the same performance from blacks that others have to measure up to. This even applies to our great black president. Now this is not just me saying these things, I am quoting a black acquaintance who is trying to change things. Other blacks are speaking up and indicating that the pc attitude is working against them. And finally, I am not conservative and certainly not liberal. I also do not believe the junk that all men are created equal. The only reason that was in the Declaration was to bring the King down to normal levels.

  15. gitarcarver says:

    david,

I barely know where to begin to address the ideas you put forth.

Let’s take the crime rates. Those rates are thrown out of proportion by the US crime stats. So let’s take a look at stats within the US:

African American Youth Are Treated Differently By the Juvenile Justice System

Drugs. According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, among youths aged 12 to 17, the rate of current illicit drug use was 11.1 % among whites, and 9.3% among African Americans. [5] In a previous year, the same survey found that white youth aged 12 to17 are more than a third more likely to have sold drugs than African American youth. [6] The Monitoring the Future Survey of high school seniors shows that white students annually use cocaine at 4.6 times the rate of African Americans students, use crack cocaine at 1.5 times the rate of African Americans students, and use heroin at the same rate of African Americans students, and that white youth report annual use of marijuana at a rate 46% higher than African American youth. [7] However African American youth are arrested for drug offenses at about twice the rate (African American 314 per 100,000, white 175 per 100,000) times that of whites, [8] and African American youth represent nearly half (48%) of all the youth incarcerated for a drug offense in the juvenile justice system. [9]
Weapons. According to the Center on Disease Control’s annual Youth Risk Behavior Survey, in 2001 whites and African Americans reported similar rates of carrying a weapon (whites 17.9%, African Americans 15.2%), and similar rates of carrying a gun (whites 5.5%, and African Americans, 6.5%). [10] African American youth represent 32% of all weapons arrests, and were arrested for weapons offenses at a rate twice that of whites (69 per 100,000, versus 30 per 100,000). [11]
Assault. According to the Center on Disease Control’s annual Youth Risk Behavior Survey, African Americans report being in a physical fight at a similar rate (36.5%, versus 32.5% for whites), but were arrested for aggravated assault at a rate nearly three times that of whites (137 per 100,000, versus 48 per 100,000).

It is clear the crime rates are disproportionate and not because of race.

So despite your claim that blacks are given greater leeway because of their race, the exact opposite is true.

Secondly, the IQ stat is laughable. You should know (but you may not) that at one point in time, IQ was considered a objective measurement of intelligence. We now know that to be false. Other factors such as environment, education, nutrition, etc can all effect IQ. In fact, when comparing races in similar environments, with similar nutrition and education, there is no difference between races. Notice that I didn’t say “no statistical difference” as that allows some fudging room.

    There is no difference.

    Period.

As to affirmative action, conservatives (of which you admit you are not) are against it. We believe that a person should be judged on their abilities and not the color of their skin. Yet while decrying affirmative action, you look at a person’s skin to predetermine and prejudge their performance.

If you don’t believe that all men are created equal, that is certainly your right. You have the right to go against God and science and no one will be able to correct your ignorance.

    How sad for you.

  16. Dana says:

    Jeffrey humorously wrote:

[Laughter] Pluto of the Lost Kos, just before the video of Mr Brown knocking over a convenience store and pushing around a guy half his size, posted:

Mike was a big guy who his family called their “Gentle Giant.” He was built to be a high school football player — direct from central casting — but Mike was too timid for the sport. According to friends and family, he had never been in a fight in his life. And, of course, it logically follows that Mike Brown had never had a criminal record or a single run-in with the police. He lived with his parents and threatened and intimidated no one. At school, he was that kid who was full of jokes and trying to make others laugh.

Now, who’s trying to paint rosy pictures?

  17. david7134 says:

    Guitar,
I don’t know what your last scree was about, but it did nothing to address the issues that I presented. As far as I am concerned, people should be allowed to use whatever drugs they desire and that our drug laws are completely illogical and wrong. Last I checked, IQ is still in use and the test administered and people judged accordingly. I agree that affirmative action is just another means of institutional discrimination, just like the Jim Crow laws. But that is the point, it does not matter what I think, it matters what government policy is. Now, it you don’t think that their are problems in the black community, then you have your head in the sand.

  18. gitarcarver says:

    david,

I am sorry that you can’t make the connection to what I said and what you postulated.

First, you believe that blacks are mentally inferior and pre-disposed to violence because of their DNA.

That was the point of your citation of IQ scores, wasn’t it? You wanted to show how blacks somehow have a lower IQ than whites? But the problem that you aren’t addressing is that IQ scores are influenced by other factors such as the ones I gave. When you remove those factors, there is no difference in IQ’s between races.

When you talk about number of crimes, are there more crimes committed because blacks are more likely to be arrested for a crime than whites? Or are whites and blacks arrested at the same rate for the same crimes?

You believe the differences for crime rates and IQ are physiological. I believe that DNA has nothing to do with the way people are in situations.

That is not to say that I am trying to excuse the violence or crimes by any segment of the population.

Unlike you who think that blacks are of lesser intelligence and criminals because of their DNA, I believe that the people do right and wrong for other factors that can be addressed and changed.

You position that blacks are racially inferior means that no matter what is done, nothing will ever change because blacks are inferior and they cannot change.

That is why, in part, you are a racist. You look at a person’s race and skin color to predetermine in your mind how they will act.

Like it or not, you’re a part of the problem and will never be a part of the solution if you don’t change.
