Democrats Using “Climate Change” As Wedge Issue Or Something

I hope they do use it for the 2014 elections: pushing “climate change” rules and laws hasn’t worked out so well for politicians around the world as of late (see what happened to Australia’s Labor Party). Furthermore, it would make an interesting contrast as the Democrat politicians run all around in fossil fueled vehicles campaigning

(SF Gate) When President Obama stood before students in Southern California a week ago ridiculing those who deny climate science, he wasn’t just road testing a new political strategy to a friendly audience. He was trying to drive a wedge between younger voters and the Republican Party.

Which should be a problem for everyone, as Obama acts as the leader of the Democrat Party rather than the POTUS, insulting and demeaning American citizens. Then, this is his normal modus operandi.

Democrats are convinced that climate change is the new same-sex marriage, an issue that is moving irreversibly in their favor, especially among young people, women and independents, the voters who hold the keys to the White House in 2016.

I wonder if young people, women, and independents are thrilled by the prospect of $5 a gallon gas along with vastly increased power bills, which will raise the cost of everything else, which will furthermore cause economic hardship and lowered hiring?

All sorts of Warmists and Democrat advisers are saying this is a super awesome mega great issue to push. Maybe not

Not all business is on board, however. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which includes smaller businesses as well as Fortune 500 companies, issued a study before the new rule was announced saying it would cost the economy $50 billion a year.

In believing they can make political capital on global warming, Democrats don’t have history on their side. The last election in which climate change was an issue was in 2010, and it was a disaster for the party.

House passage of cap-and-trade legislation to curb carbon pollution that year helped topple San Francisco Democrat Nancy Pelosi from the speakership and embarrassed California Sen. Barbara Boxer, chair of the Environment and Public Works Committee, who failed to get the Senate to act. The party descended into near-total silence on the issue.

Well, in all fairness, that was just the icing on the cake (cake is also bad for climate change, because it causes obesity or something): it was more the passage of Obamacare and the utter idiocy of the Stimulus, with the notion that Democrats do not listen to the American People, that caused the loss. However, if Democrats want to run on this as a major issue, it would be interesting, considering the “pause” has lasted for over 17 years and 9 months. We know for a fact that the actual data has been changed to conform to the talking points. And we know for a fact that Warmists refuse to practice what they preach. We also know that this would give Republicans an awesome rebuttal, in terms of claiming Democrats are using “climate change” as a “Squirrel!!!!” issue to deflect from their abominable records regarding Obamacare, the economy, spying on Americans, foreign policy, failing to secure the border, and unemployment, among others.

We know that they cannot be honest: just look at the picture that accompanies the article

Of course, most Warmists are too indoctrinated and devoid of scientific knowledge to understand what is coming out of those stacks.

Although it’s not always the case in the short term, pursuing the greater good and the truth usually makes for good politics in the long term.

The far-right minority (and their financiers) are attempting to consolidate their minority control (by gerrymandering, voter-suppression, Luntz-style messaging) in the face of withering demographics. The majority of Americans will not long stand for this.

Here’s one truth the far-right must come to grips with: The Earth is warming significantly from humans pumping carbon dioxide into the atmosphere by burning oil, coal and gas. This is not an expression of good or evil – it’s just a simple fact. The resulting warming is expected to worsen with time and will necessitate significant disruptive changes in human behaviors and civilization. The majority of Americans understand this. The far-right minority (the new Republican Party) not only opposes, but actually blocks, any attempts at mitigation.

As with equal rights for women, Blacks and gays, conservatives are on the wrong side of history again. Out of political expediency, conservatives have largely had to acquiesce on human rights; and they will eventually acquiesce to the overwhelming evidence supporting the theory of AGW and public acceptance of the truth. But as always, the conservatives will damage the nation along the way.

I hate to tell you this Jeffery, but Conservatives and Republicans were for equal rights for Blacks.

It was people of your ilk that was against it.

I have never seen a “fact” from you. Did you see on Drudge that the last few decades are being described as cooling periods after the hot 1930’s. There is nothing factual about your religion.

  4. Jeffery says:

So you claim that conservatives favored equals rights for Blacks? I understand the need for revisionist right-wing history but that one has always stunned me with its brazenness. Can you list 5 or 10 of the prominent liberal/progressive politicians who opposed equal rights for Blacks?

(Just identifying someone as a Dem doesn’t mean they were liberals – Strom Thurmond, George Wallace, Phil Graham, Zell Miller, Harry Byrd etc were once Dems but were not liberals).

In 1948, when Harry S Truman, supported Black civil rights in the Democratic Party platform, many conservative (and Southern) Democrats revolted and walked out of the convention, going so far as to form a new Party, the States Right Party.

You wouldn’t recognize a fact if it bit you in the butt. Yes, the Earth has been warming for about a century. Yes, there have been brief periods of no warming, less warming and even cooling, but the Earth has warmed about 1C in the past century. Really, Drudge?

I will help out GC a little. Two prominent Dems come to mind immediately, namely Woodrow Wilson and FDR. Personally, I don’t think much of the civil rights issue as it was a massive manipulation of the usual liberal hysteria and emotional response to any issue. The end result was to change the voting patterns and start the move to communism that we have seen embodied in Obama and the take over of our government. Laugh if you must, but you can not deny the absolute ruin the man has done. Many of the voting laws were in place to assure that the voter was at least able to read and was educated to some extent. Much like the property laws and voting rights that protected us from the whims of the ignorant, like you. Plus, living in the South, I saw first hand how racial incidents were staged, even to the point of staging riots as if for a Hollywood production. But you wouldn’t believe that as you are a superior intellect (who has been massively manipulated). Thought of another liberal while writing, good old Byrd of West Virginia (not exactly the deep south). By the way, LBJ was a full fledged racist as well, he just gamed the black vote for his purposes.

And then, I am rusty at seeing facts as you have not presented any, at all for our assessment.

  6. Jeffery says:

Of course you don’t think much of civil rights for non-whites. But I’ve always admired your forthrightness.

Do you think the ACA is more communist than Social Security or Medicare? Do you have other examples of communism in America?

How has President Obama ruined America?

You conflate racism with civil rights legislation. It’s irrelevant what LBJ thought of Blacks, what was important were his actions.

  7. gitarcarver says:

I understand the need for revisionist right-wing history but that one has always stunned me with its brazenness.

Truth to liberals always is considered “brazenness” when it goes against their view of the world.

Can you list 5 or 10 of the prominent liberal/progressive politicians who opposed equal rights for Blacks?

One only has to look at the Civil Rights Act of 1957. The Bill was promoted by conservative Dwight D. Eisenhower and supported by conservatives. On the other hand, it was opposed by liberals who voted against it at almost a 50% rate.

One of the people working against the bill was Joe Kennedy, who wanted to have the bill passed while his son was President. In short, the Democrats didn’t care about civil rights, but only the appearance of supporting equal rights for people.

Sorry that this goes against your understanding of history Jeffery, but as we all have seen, your knowledge of history is lacking in many areas.

  8. Jeffery says:

You intentionally conflate 1950s Democrats with liberals. Strom Thurmond was not a liberal. Conservative Southern Democrats opposed the civil rights acts. Liberals and moderates favored civil rights.

I understand the need for conservatives to deny this horribly ugly aspect of their history. But rather than lie about history, I think you would be better served to admit the horrid behavior and move on. The world changes faster than conservatism. That’s kind of the definition of conservatism.

President Eisenhower was not a conservative by today’s far-right standards. He was a big, big government liberal domestically, and a foreign policy neocon. Eisenhower sent federal troops to sovereign southern states to enforce FEDERAL laws! He spent billions on the interstate highway system, DARPA, NASA, the National Defense Education Act and he expanded Social Security. Domestically, Mr. Eisenhower was more an Obama Democrat than a Limbaugh Republican.

  9. david7134 says:

I lived during the LBJ times and have watched as his programs have unfolded. He probably did more to destroy blacks than any single president. His war on poverty was and is a complete failure, welfare-failure, Medicaid-failure, Medicare-crashing and burning. The list goes on and on.

As to examples of communism, the ACA took over 1/6 of the economy and is managed by a czar, he took over the auto industry, and the banking and finance. In fact, there is little left that the government does not manage.

  10. gitarcarver says:

I realize that you are not willing to be an adult and say “I was wrong,” but that is a reflection on you rather than anyone else.

You asked for liberals that were against equal rights. I gave them to you. You tried to shift the discussion.

  11. Jeffery says:

You most certainly did not give me a list of liberals opposing civil rights for Blacks. But I understand why you didn’t since they do not exist.

    You are consistently wrong.

  12. gitarcarver says:

    Just stop.

At this point in time your incessant whining and proof that you refuse to see anything that goes against your beliefs is pitiful.

  13. Jeffery says:

Or you could address the question. But I understand that you’d rather not since you position is silly and unsupportable with evidence.
