You’re A Racist If You Want Cheap Energy

And you want to kill black kids from asthma. How else can we interpret this David Robert’s Grist post?

Black people get asthma so everybody else can get cheap power

Dominique Browning gets right to the point in “The Racial Politics of Asthma.” I’m tempted to excerpt the whole thing, but this is the important bit:

In 2008, African Americans had a 35 percent higher [PDF] rate of asthma than Caucasians. A study revealed that one-quarter of the children in New York City’s Harlem have asthma. The following national statistics are even more jarring:

African American children have a:

• 260% higher emergency room visit rate.
• 250% higher hospitalization rate.
• 500% higher death rate from asthma, as compared with white children.

Why? One likely reason is that 68% of African-Americans (compared to 56% of whites) live within [PDF] 30 miles of a coal-fired power plant—the distance within which the maximum ill effects of the emissions from smokestacks occur.

It has long been the case that victims of air pollution are disproportionately poor urban minorities, especially children. A study last year out of Duke confirmed that “non-Hispanic blacks are consistently overrepresented in communities with the poorest air quality.” For the most part, this is just another way of saying that blacks are overrepresented in communities with high levels of poverty. That’s where the coal plants get put.

It’s not the first time Warmists (who use cheap power themselves) have tried a bit of race baiting, and it won’t be the last. Which is rather hypocritical, considering they keep attempting to get African nations to only install expensive “green” energy, not cheap coal, meaning Africans continue to live in squalor.

Funny how they have been going on about the open fires in Africa, yet no asthma.

I wonder why they don’t attempt to solve the poverty problem instead of using it as a crutch? why not force their representatives to increase employment and income? Why not reduce taxation and reduce the amount of people forced to live in squalor due to being on welfare?

Instead of ranting and writing articles to further limit the quality of life of certain segments of America, they want to make them live in the dark now, or to give up more of their disposable incomes to pay for more expensive green energy that probably won’t even make it to inner cities (as we know that green energy producers are located out in the countryside).

Fix the problem instead of blaming scapegoats.

Here’s a question… could it also be that blacks are just more genetically susceptible to asthma? Certain racial groups are more susceptible to certain diseases and conditions than others, while there are also differences between sexes.

I think the original slave owners gave the black slaves wool blankets infested with asthma inducing agents. This didn’t effect the first generation, nor the 2nd or third after that, but is now having the desired effect on current day blacks.

    Or, George Zimmerman did it.

Having lived with asthma all my life, I just want to know why no one gives a shit about the reason I have it, and whether or not I was predisposed, or if by living in country settings with lots of flora that the government didn’t see fit to remove, the “man” was setting me up.

I want to know why there is always someone to blame for everything!!!!!!

Well Trish, if it isn’t your fault for your ill health and state of being, and current financial situation, then of course, it is someone else’s. And who are the best to blame…?

I blame China. I mean, what are they gonna do? Foreclose on us? HA! (gulp)

I think you are onto something gumball!
