BAGHDAD — Twin bombs struck two markets in central Baghdad on Friday, killing dozens in the worst attack in the Iraqi capital for many months.
One hit the Ghazil pet market, the scene of a deadly bombing in November that killed 13 people.
The second hit minutes later and barely two miles away at the New Baghdad pet market. Both markets are on the east side of the Tigris River, and both are in mainly Shiite areas. But they are popular with both Shiites and Sunnis.
Expect PETA to issue a statement to Al Qaeda in Iraq, asking them to leave the animals out of it.
Early reports put the death toll from both attacks at more than 50. The bombings were carried out by women wearing explosive vests, witnesses said.
“Women wearing explosive vest.” What kind of women?
Two women thought to suffer from Down’s syndrome may have been unwilling suicide bombers in twin blasts that killed up to 73 people at pet markets in Baghdad today.
The chief Iraqi military spokesman in Baghdad, Brigadier General Qassim al-Moussawi, claimed the female bombers apparently had Down’s syndrome and the explosives were detonated by remote control, indicating the women may not have been willing attackers, according to his office.
I’m missing that part in most of the Credentialed Media reports, who have also tended to take a tone that fails to condemn the attacks. Multiculturalist Internationalism rears its head again. Can’t make the Islamic jihadists mad or something.
