TTLF: Senate Taking Up Jailed Border Agents Issue

Well, this is good news, a great way to start off the day. Perhaps W will take notice, being fresh off his commutation of Scooter Libby. He needs to do the same, at a minimum, for the border agents.

( – The Senate will hold a hearing next week on the controversial case of two U.S. Border Patrol agents sentenced to more than a decade each in prison for shooting a Mexican drug smuggler.

The Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Terrorism, Technology and Homeland Security next Tuesday will look into the circumstances surrounding the prosecution and sentencing of former agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean.

"The purpose of the hearing is to examine the facts of the Ramos and Compean cases: the appropriateness of the charges brought against them and the very heavy sentences they received," said Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), who chairs the subcommittee.

You go, girl! Hey, have to give kudos where kudos are do. Partisan politics only goes so far, especially when someone is doing something right. At thta point, I could care less what party they are in. It is more important to see what can be done to free the border agents.

(Grassfire) Two former U.S. Border Patrol agents — Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean — are serving 11- and 12-year prison terms for attempting to apprehend an illegal alien drug smuggler. The smuggler, who was transporting 743 pounds of marijuana (about $1 million worth), was given full immunity to testify against our agents and is suing our government for $5 million.

Now, reports indicate that the Mexican government was instrumental in this case even being launched. Plus, our own government has been lying about key details in the case. Meanwhile, the agents sit in jail (Ramos was severely beaten by Mexican nationals in jail who shouted “death to the border agent”), the drug smuggler may get rich and our President has not taken action!

While it’s nice to have this get some attention, I wish it would get Bush’s attention — the Senate has ZERO power over these two agents and their sentence. The legislative branch just made the laws. The best they can do now is to change the laws — but that won’t help the two in prison that shouldn’t be.
