Senate Democrats: Islamic Detainees Deserve Rights

So, remember all those folks rounded up on the battlefields of Afghanistan, fighting against us, wearing no uniforms, and now at G'itmo? The Geneva Convention makes them enemy combatants. Heck, they could be considered spies and executed. Well, the Defeatocrats have made their support of them official

A group of Senate Democrats introduced legislation yesterday that would restore habeas corpus rights to all detainees in U.S. custody and would narrowly define what it means to be an "enemy combatant" against the United States, a measure designed to challenge laws ushered in by the Republican-controlled Congress last year.

The bill, titled the "Restoring the Constitution Act of 2007," strikes at the core of the Military Commissions Act of 2006 by giving detainees access to U.S. courts. It was introduced by Sen. Christopher J. Dodd (Conn.), a candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination.

I have a wee bit of news for Dodd and the others: Constitutional Rights only apply to those who are US citizens or are applying for citizenship. They do not apply to non-Americans. We generally give them to folks who came here legally. Unfortunately, they are also being given to those who came here illegally, too. But, do we want to give them to those caught on the battlefields of Afghanistan? You know, the folks associated with Al Qaeda? Seriously, what if we were to catch Osama Bin Laden, and just throw him in a prison cell? Would these Defeatocrats have an issue, or would they demand a trial with US rights?

However, I have to wonder if they either do not understand what they introduced, or are just making some sort of concession to the Leftards

The bill would also prevent the executive branch from making blanket determinations about who is an enemy combatant and would restrict the president's authority to interpret when certain human rights standards apply to detainees. The legislation would limit the label "enemy combatant" to a person "who directly participates in hostilities in a zone of active combat against the United States" or who took part in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

In otherwords, everyone at G'itmo, as well as anyone caught in Iraq, and in Afghanistan since the initial operations. However, what if we catch a major terrorist player in, say, America? That would not be an active zone, probably, so we would have to give that terrorist American Rights.

Of course, the Democrats are the same party who convict any soldier accused of a crime before a trial is even held.

And Dodd is, of course, running for President. This seems like a way to throw some red meat, or should that be fresh tofu?, to the nutroots? You can watch them lapping it up at the Hufftard Post

  • Yes! Save our constitution and defend the rights of all detainees!
  • It's about time.
  • Good for Dodd! He just went a little further up on my 'pay attention to this guy' meter. I saw him on one of the news shows tonight talking about something else and I liked what I heard.
  • It's about time we stop these thugs from making the United States a world enemy for gross human rights abuses!

Eh, you can read the rest if ya want.

Just after the devestating 9-11-01 ‘Attack on America’ where 19 radical Islamic terrorists killed 2,996 Americans, that included 120 foreigners, in three U.S. states in a three hour period, my fellow law enforcement buddy at work was activated and flew on numerous missions from the Eagle Wing to Kabul and then to GITMO. He supervised the security transport of the radical Islamic ‘detainees’
during their missions. These scumbags had to be shackled and cuffed, and hooded – because they tried to CHEW, and BITE THROUGH the hydraulic lines on the USAF transport aircraft! The NAACP and ACLU won’t tell you the truth, will they? I would have preferred the Waffen SS Gestapo techniques to have been used on these supposed DETAINEES! As for GITMO, yeah – close it, and move these detainee terrorists to HOME CONFINEMENT status of Pelosi, Reid, Kennedy, Biden, the CNN and NBC anchors and executives, and any represenative of the 19 Blue States of Socialism! After all, jihadist insurgent detainee terrorists(freedom fighters?) make excellent baby sitters, and make sure to hide the pets, especially the farm animals!

The defeatocrats don’t understand the Constitution or what it takes to win a war. They all need to take some history and economic lessons.

I have a wee bit of advice for the poster… read the bill before you open your mouth and prove once again how ignorant you are. In fact, I have a feeling you’re not very familiar with the Constitution, either. You ought to read it some time. “Restoring the Constitution Act of 2007” refers to rolling back the Bush/Cheney Executive Branch power grab over the last few years. In other words, this bill is intended to restore the Executive Branch-Kegislative Branch-Judicial Branch “checks and balances.”

By the way, it’s a huge leap of faith on your part to assume that *all* of the Gitmo detainees were hostile anti-American terrorists. A good number of them were sold to the CIA by rival Afghani tribesmen. This is all well-documented, if you choose to look outside your biases.

Look, this ain’t a dictatorship, kid. You should crack open a book sometime… that is, if you have the courage to think on your own, without the direction of Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity.

  5. First, I am going by what the story says. Second, you obviously do not understand who the Constitution applies to. Third, kinda funny how the majority of Democrats voted for the Patriot Act. Twice. Fourth, interesting how you take the side of people who would slit your throat in a heartbeat over the word of an American. don’t let your liberal seething wear you out!

Finally, your right, it isn’t a dictatorship, unlike what the Left wing talking points say, junior.

  6. […] Doddotang has made his appearence (compare to a photo of Dodd), and, I've mentioned before Chris Dodd wanting to give the right of habeas corpus to terrorists. Now, he has the website up and […]

A Real American is on target patriots! Mao said we would fall from within, and these treasonous Demliblunatics and Islamomaniacs know this and are allying with the ACLU (Arabs Communists Liberals United)and NAACP and all other Anti-American socialist organizations world-wide! GOD bless our Second Amendment and the NRA for we ‘neocon patriots’ have more firepower to do what we have to do if our own president’s administration and armed forces can’t fulfill their duties of protecting our nation and securing OUR borders – period.
