Sad: Slight Majority Of Americans Say Redistribute Wealth

“When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.” Benjamin Franklin

Many wise men have said something similar. Alas, no one is listening

(Politico) Nearly 6 in 10 Americans say wealth is distributed unfairly in the United States, and a majority want the federal government to play Robin Hood to fix the problem, according to a poll released Thursday.

Only 33 percent of Americans think the current distribution of wealth in this country is fair, according to the Gallup Poll, while 59 percent say it is not. Fifty-two percent said the United States should redistribute wealth through heavy taxes on the rich, while 45 percent disagreed.

And this is how the Republic dies, not with agony but by wanting to steal the fruit of other people’s labor.

it also dies because theft is seen as obligatory and justified.

Corruption, murder, theft, erosions of freedom and liberty is seen as expected. And justified if it is against the other party.

A wise and frugal Government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government, and this is necessary to close the circlue of our felicities.

when we dropped the tax rate on the super wealthy the economy crashed. The extreme wealthy should pay 50%. Some people are making BILLIONS each year Do you think many Americans think that they would cry if we took 1/2? Then we could put people to work fixing our roads and bridges and reducing the deficit.

OMG John, that was super hilarious. Thanks, I needed that gut-wrenching laugh riot.

when we dropped the tax rate on the super wealthy the economy crashed.

Actually, when we forced banks to make risky loans and raised the taxes on businesses the economy crashed.

Facts are difficult for you, aren’t they?

The extreme wealthy should pay 50%.

    Why?

Some people are making BILLIONS each year

Good for them. Why do you hate (in addition to all the other groups you hate) those who are successful? Isn’t that the American dream, john? Why are you against the American dream?

Do you think many Americans think that they would cry if we took 1/2?

So you believe that we should take something just because people say we can? What if we said “no home ownership?” Or “no property.” Would you be happy with people taking your things? Would you be happy having the money and possessions you worked for stolen?

Then we could put people to work fixing our roads and bridges and reducing the deficit.

If we took 100% of the money from the so called 1%, the money would last 3 days of federal spending. Then what? Where do you want to go from there? Whose money do you want to take next?

Face it john, you believe in theft.

  8. BigT says:

It is great to redistribute other peoples money … oh .. you WANT ME to pay more taxes .. hey .. that’s not OK.

  9. TDS says:

So, if you are so upset about people getting the fruits of others’ labor, then I assume you support a full, confiscatory estate tax, right? Because heirs are the biggest recipients of unearned wealth there are.

  10. Gumball_Brains says:

WTF are you talking about TDS?
If MY choice is to leave my earned income and savings to my kids, my estate, my dog, my favorite charity, my college football team, what bloody business is it of yours?!!?!?

  11. gitarcarver says:

    TDS,

I want to make sure that I understand your point. You seem to be saying that since I disapprove of over taxation at the whim of government while I am alive, I would be for over taxation at the whim of the government when I have passed away?

    Is that your point?

    Wow.

Gumball is right. If I earn the money, it is mine to do with as I see fit. It is not up to the government to confiscate the fruits of my labor to unduly enrich those who either have not worked, not worked as hard, or have not been as successful.

Now I suppose you and john will mention or believe in some sort of “social justice.” I’ll let Walter Williams respond to that:

“Let me offer you my definition of Social Justice. I keep what I earn, and you keep what you earn. Do you disagree? Well then tell me how much of what I earn belongs to you and why. ” –Walter Williams
