Arizona Commissioner Triple Dog Dares LA To Follow Through With Boycott

Daring unhinged liberals to put their money where their mouths are

The spat over Arizona’s new immigration law expanded Tuesday as a state official dared Los Angeles to follow through on its new boycott by agreeing to give up the 25 percent of electricity the city gets from Arizona sources.

In a letter to Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Arizona Corporation Commissioner Gary Pierce said a boycott war is bad for both sides, and said he would “be happy to encourage Arizona utilities to renegotiate your power agreements” to end the electricity flowing to Los Angeles.

“I am confident that Arizona’s utilities would be happy to take those electrons off your hands,” Mr. Pierce said. “If, however, you find that the City Council lacks the strength of its convictions to turn off the lights in Los Angeles and boycott Arizona power, please reconsider the wisdom of attempting to harm Arizona’s economy.”

Go for it, Los Angeles. Walk the talk. It will be interesting to see how the people of LA respond. It’s not like California doesn’t already have power issues. So, do they stand up for their principles, or are they all talk?

Los Angeles City Council voted overwhelmingly last week to adopt a boycott of Arizona businesses — at least in instances where it wouldn’t impose a significant economic cost to the city.

So, basically, like most Liberal initiatives, they are long on talk, short on actual action. No shocker there. We see the same thing all the time. Reducing ones carbon footprint? They yammer a lot, but, actions are for others. All those complaints about the Iraq war? When push came to shove, Democrats voted multiple times to not pull out immediately. Here we are, fast approaching Obama’s 16 month point in his presidency, and we aren’t even close to starting the real pullout. War bad? Obama puts more troops into Afghanistan. Oil bad? The left still drives their SUVs. Alternative energy sources good? Yeah, but they are also expensive, so, the left mostly doesn’t bother. When it comes to most things, the Left yammers quite a bit, but, rarely does what it advocates.

If LA was swallowed up in a quake, would it make a sound? Perhaps a loud sucking noise…

I’ve been waiting for that since the whole boycott idiocy began. LA, and in fact the entire state, has been denying permits for power plants for years, despite a continuing shortage. So the power companies located in Arizona to supply the needed watts. And built long lines into LA to deliver it.

LA whined and preened. As usual.

I would really love to see Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Brentwood go dark.

There are 5 Commisioners on the AZ Power Board. Pierce is one. As for who has the leverage here please remember the golden rule HE WHO HAS THE GOLD MAKES THE RULES. CA is the customer and the customer is always right that is the way American business works.

  5. John Ryan says:

1/3 of the people in CA get 1/4 of their power from AZ that means AZ sells CA 1/12 of their power or about 8% Gee Teach stop scaring the poor CA kids. Oh and CA provides AZ with more of its food stuffs than any other state. The population of CA is 6 times that of AZ. La has 2 times as many people as AZ CA can crush them economically. The only way AZ can even get by is because the wages are so depressed, they are in the bottom 1/3 of the USA

Wow Ryan, once again you demonstrate a total ignorance of economics.

While your figures may be right, you are excluding the businesses that use Arizona power. California (the bankrupt state) can’t afford ANY increases in costs to any businesses that remain in the state. California cannot afford ANY increases in costs to the population in general.

The additional costs of power would be passed onto the consumer meaning 1) higher prices and 2) being less competitive in the market.

Neither is good economic policy, but you go on thinking that it is.

Oh by the way, in case you missed it, the LA resolution included this little gem: at least in instances where it wouldn’t impose a significant economic cost to the city.

You see Ryan, liberals like yourself don’t care about people, businesses or others. When it comes down to actually taking a “moral” stand on an issue, you don’t. You only want others to take a stand. You only want others to be impacted.

    Moral cowards.

Teach the AZ Power Board is like a joke, they have revenues of 30 million, all they do is market the power and take a small slice. Someone better ask the companies that have BILLIONS tied up in production facilities about how they would fee about losing their biggest out of state customer.http://www.powerauthority.org/documents/financialReports/FY08.pdf

Pretty cavalier attitude there Trish. Sort of like when people say that they don’t care at all what happens to people in prison.

Nice one Johnny, what a gent you are! Alhough I see no particular reason for you to have made that comparison, since mine was meant as a joke.
I’m certain that no one else would see the connect of your comment to me here except for Teach.
And I see you can’t take a joke, for what it is worth. But I suppose it is to be expected. Liberals prove every day that they’re not the compassionate folks they pretend to be. What I read on Dem blogs is atrocious, hideous, mean spirited, vulgar and despicable.
I never thought Johnny was that way, usually pretty respectful if belligerent, I thought he at least had some couth.
This week’s been an eye opener for me in regards to John Ryan.
