Back on February 8th, I posted about the nexty lefty meme being that McCain is not eligible to be President because he was born at Coco Solo Air Base in the Panama Canal Zone, August 29, 1936. Now, the New York Times jumps in with one of those “we are just wondering for the sake of journalistic integrity” type stories, that never truly answers the question
The question has nagged at the parents of Americans born outside the continental United States for generations: Dare their children aspire to grow up and become president? In the case of Senator John McCain of Arizona, the issue is becoming more than a matter of parental daydreaming.
“There are powerful arguments that Senator McCain or anyone else in this position is constitutionally qualified, but there is certainly no precedent,†said Sarah H. Duggin, an associate professor of law at Catholic University who has studied the issue extensively. “It is not a slam-dunk situation.â€
Yes, it is a slam dunk situation, as I point out in my previous post. “The Panama Canal Zone was a U.S. Territory from 1903 to 1979 (thanks, Carter!), so, any person born there was automatically considered a U.S. citizen.” And that person would be considered a natural born citizen, making them eligible to be President. That’s The Law. Nice try, Grey Lady! You would think they could use the Interwebz for 10 minutes and find the same damned information. The probably did, they are just ignoring it. At least they didn’t put it on the front page like the “McCain had an affair” crap.

ctaylors6 11. Interestingly, if Obama had been born a few years earlier he’d have almost same situation…Hawaii was US territory until became state in 1959. Obama was born in 1961.
Holy Crap! The Wall Street Journal’s Law Blog couldn’t take 10 minutes to do some research and find the relevant law.
Right Voices: A non-issue, but the Times just wanted you to “think†about it.
