Terrorist with Raleigh Links Arrested

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Boy, I loved watching Fox News this Am, with them showing shots of Raleigh, NCSU, and the apartment which Magdy El-Nashar lived in, places I have been. And now, he has been arrested:

Police in Egypt on Friday arrested an Egyptian biochemist who studied in the United States, and authorities investigated a possible link between al-Qaida and the suicide team that carried out the London bombings, officials said.

Magdy el-Nashar, 33, was arrested early Friday, the Egyptian official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because an official announcement of the information had not yet been made. El-Nashar, who studied at North Carolina State and Leeds University, was being interrogated by Egyptian authorities, the official said.

Again, as I said in my previous post on this, there are lots of agricultural products to play with at NCSU, thinks that can be made to go Boom!

Michelle Malkin has more. Link me, Michelle. I live in Raleigh :)

PS: do you think the British are going to be particularly concerned with Magdy’s civil rights at this time, or do you think that they are going to bust their humps to find out if there are others involved, whether more attacks could be forthcoming, and any other relevent information? I don’t think they are going to be all that worried about Magdy’s rights, either. He gave them up when he made the bombs.

Rovegate: It’s All The Rage

It just keeps getting funnier and funnier. The libazoids lock on to an issue like a pit bull on a burglers leg, and only let go when something else comes along to make them look even dumber. Whatever happened to the "voter fraud" issue in Ohio? Or the Downing Street Memo’s? Weren’t they going to take down Bush? Not. And we keep finding out more and more info that Karl Rove didn’t do anything wrong, and did not break the law.

First, from the NY Times, whose catchy title is "Rove Reportedly Held Talk on CIA Agent." Reportedly. Then they go on to write as if this was one hundred percent. Which one is it, Times?

Karl Rove, the White House senior adviser, spoke with the columnist Robert D. Novak as he was preparing an article in July 2003 that identified a C.I.A. officer who was undercover, someone who has been officially briefed on the matter said.

Mr. Rove has told investigators that he learned from the columnist the name of the C.I.A. officer, who was referred to by her maiden name, Valerie Plame, and the circumstances in which her husband, former Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV, traveled to Africa to investigate possible uranium sales to Iraq, the person said.

After hearing Mr. Novak’s account, the person who has been briefed on the matter said, Mr. Rove told the columnist: "I heard that, too."

The previously undisclosed telephone conversation, which took place on July 8, 2003, was initiated by Mr. Novak, the person who has been briefed on the matter said.

So Novak already knew, huh? Yup. And it was Novak who mentioned Plame’s name first. The Times even mentions what is necessary for a criminal investigation:

The law requires that the official knowingly identify an officer serving in a covert position. The person who has been briefed on the matter said Mr. Rove neither knew Ms. Wilson’s name nor that she was a covert officer.

The did forget the part about the agent having acted outside the US within the last 5 years.

Terror in Raleigh?

Some liberals have poo poo’d the idea that terrorism could be in the South. That couldn’t be farther from the truth. I have previously written about the danger that Charlotte, NC, faces, here and here. Now, we find out that the London terrorist acts have a link to North Carolina State U. Even as a good East Carolina grad, I cannot find anything funny in this:

An Egyptian-born academic being sought by London police as part of their investigation into last week’s terrorist bombings spent a semester at North Carolina State University. That’s according to school officials.

The Times of London quotes unidentified police sources as saying detectives are interested in finding Magdy el-Nashar, who recently taught chemistry at Leeds University in northern England. The Times says el-Nashar was believed to have rented one of the homes being searched in Leeds where at least two of the four suicide bombers lived.

N.C. State spokesman Keith Nichols says the 33-year-old El-Nashar studied chemical engineering at the school beginning in January 2000.

The basic facts are that terrorists will use our own technology and infrastructure against us. The muslims who were on those planes on 9/11 trained at locals around our country. And, one thing that the AP and other stories have missed is that NCSU has a large argricultural program, giving el-Nashar access to serious chemical fertilizers, the good stuff, if you will. Fertilizer is the key to most bombs.

So do not tell me that we do not matter, and that terrorism is a big city issue.

Hockey’s Back

So, the NHL and the Players Union have finally settled their spat, which, in essence, endangered the viability of the sport, and has royally pissed of the sports fans, me being one of them. It is hard to know whether all the players stood forsquare with the NHLPA, as most kept their mouths shut, unlike a few, who happened to be the players making the most money. And what can one say about the deal?

"I think the deal is not great for the players. It is definitely an owner-friendly deal. For the last 10 years, the players have made a lot of money and now we are in a position where everybody is going to make money," he (Jeremy Roenick) said. "Unfortunately, it had to take a whole year to get to a point where we could have been last year."

Umm, Jeremy? You are one of the problem players, who worked hard to stall and defeat any and (almost) all proposals. But, the deal still has to be ratified. Let’s say it will. What will the NHL do for me? Yes, me. Does that sound selfish? Damn right, it does. I have been a hockey fan since, well, always. I rooted for the local teams, the Flyers and Rangers, originally, and then made my full allegiance to the New Jersey Devils when they moved from Colorado. I have been a die hard fan through the good and the bad. But do not expect me to just go "game on" and come back like nothing has happened. I expect something in return. I expect some concessions. I expect so ticket price reductions. I expect to be woo’ed and courted. And, if hockey sticks with the plans as announced by TSN, won’t cut it for me.

Stop the ACLU wackjobs!

So many wacko ACLU subjects, so little time. I found their "article" from back on July 1st rather interesting, though, being all about the ACLU being concerned that O’Connor’s replacement might role back civil liberties. Just like all the other activist sites, they are having a hissy fit before a nominee is even suggested. It is so absurd as to be laughable. Except that these ACLU nuts and their activism and lawsuits can be dangerous, as they put the civil liberties of one group over another. At the time, the ACLU was going to hold a board meeting to see if they should oppose President Bush’s nominee. Gee, you think they will vote to oppose? My money would be on "yes," whenever GWB submits his nominee.

So what is the ACLU looking for in comparison to O’Connor’s record? They mention three cases, the first of which, Grutter v Bollinger, put O’Connor squarely on the side of affirmitive action, an issue that puts one groups set of civil liberties above another sets. My copy of the Declaration of Independence states that all Men are created equal, not that one group gets perks that another doesn’t.

The second case is Hamdi v Rumsfeld, in which O’Conner took the position that it was more important to give traitors to the USA, as Hamdi was caught on the field of battle in Afghanistan fighting for a terrorist organization, the rights and privelidges of the country he forsook. Hey, I’m up for that. Let’s try the sucker then hang him till dead, dead, DEAD!

Finally, the ACLU could write an article without mentioning Roe v Wade now, could they? O’Conner has always taken that pro abortion position, and they ACLU loves her for it. Abortion on demand is one of the primary position that all Leftist organizations stake out. Cannot be a good lefty if you don’t. But, then, the ACLU supports the rights of convicted mass murderers to live while innocent fetus’s can be killed by knocked up juveniles. Go figure.

Looking forward, the ACLU noted that O’Connor’s replacement could directly affect the outcome of some of the most divisive legal questions facing America today history. The nominee could, for instance, reverse the court’s growing discomfort with the death penalty; grant the president greater authority to detain Americans without charge, trial or access to counsel in the name of national security; and uphold troubling parts of the Patriot Act.

Tough. We are at war. How about protecting the Right of American citizens to not be killed in suicide/homicide attacks? That might be nice. Nowhere in the Constitution does it say anything against the death penalty, a form of punishment which was used before, during, and after the writing of the Constitution, and, if one reads the papers of the time, was supported by the Framers. And it is up to the People, not the Court or the ACLU, to decide if the death penalty should be used. The Will of the Majority. And the Patriot Act? There has been one confirmed misuse of it, and that was in Summit, NJ, which, last time I looked, was a Blue state. Google Summit, NJ, and homeless man.

It is time to stop the ACLU, and there are many others working for this. Go to Stop the ACLU for the full details, as well as visiting these other fine folks in today’s blogburst

Religion of Peace(?) update

While this may not strictly be desecration of a religious icon or leader, such as a cleric, what is that old saying about children being the closest thing to God?

A suicide car bomb exploded next to U.S. troops handing out candy and toys, killing 18 children and teenagers Wednesday. Parents heard the shattering explosion and raced out to the discover the worst — children’s mangled, bloodied bodies strewn on the street.

Up to 27 people were killed by the blast in the Shiite Muslim neighborhood, including an American soldier. At least 70 people were injured, a newborn and three U.S. soldiers among them.

Children’s slippers lay piled near the blast crater not far from a crumbled child’s bicycle as blood pooled in the street.

Twelve of the dead were 13 or younger and six were between 14 and 17, said police Lt. Mohammed Jassim Jabr. Among the wounded was 4-day-old Miriam Jabber, cut slightly by flying glass and debris.

These are he people you call "insurgents" and "freedom fighters," libs. Do you support this kind of activity? Or will you finally wake up and smell the coffee? Your actions embolden the terrorists, and that’s what they are, to commit these kinds of atrocities.

"The foreign terrorists … see the Iraqi people, including Iraqi children, as cannon fodder to be sacrificed in the pursuit of an extremist agenda of conflict between civilizations," Khalilzad told reporters. "Hard-line Baathists want a civil war as a vehicle to restore their dictatorship, and if they cannot win power, to take Iraq down with them."

Get it?

On Plame/Rove

I’ve been pretty out of the news blogging thing for about  a week now, since I was on vacation. However, I have one question that may, or may not, have been ignored in the ‘sphere (I have only heard one person ask this on tv, so far): Who gave Valerie Plame’s name to Robert Novak?

That is something that people have seemed to skip over. Was it Rove? Novak is the person who should be focused on. Did Rove say the same thing to Novak that he said to Cooper?

I’m all for letting the Dems go after this non-story. Plame was not an undercover CIA agent operating in a foreign country. Furthermore, though I cannot find confirmation (yet) of this, supposedly Joe Wilson identified Valerie’s name on his own webpage before the report came out from Novak and Cooper. Joe Wilson is a confirmed liar. And now the Dems want to pull their "guilty until proven innocent" act. Too bad Rove isn’t a pedopheliac mass murderer. Then the Dems would have his back.

This is just another "booga booga" issue for the Dems. Nothing they have tried has worked. They are even forgetting their "issue that is going to toast Bush," ie, the Downing Street Memo’s. They truly are sad and misguided.

Dems Jump

SANTA MONICA, Ca – First one democrat jumped to its death. Then stunned Demoherders, who had left the herd to seethe while they had breakfast, watched as nearly 1,500 others followed, each leaping off the same cliff, liberal media reported.

In the end, 450 dead Progressives lay on top of one another in a billowy pink pile, the socialist newspaper said. Those who jumped later were saved as the pile got higher and the fall more cushioned, libs reported.

“There’s nothing we can do. They’re all wasted,” Nevzat Bayhan, a member of one of 26 families whose democrats were seething together in the herd, was quoted as saying by Aksam.

The estimated loss to families in the town of Santa Monica, located in western California, tops $30.00, due to the low resale value of seething Democrats. “We were hoping the seething would stop at some point. I guess it became to much for them.”
