Some liberals have poo poo’d the idea that terrorism could be in the South. That couldn’t be farther from the truth. I have previously written about the danger that Charlotte, NC, faces, here and here. Now, we find out that the London terrorist acts have a link to North Carolina State U. Even as a good East Carolina grad, I cannot find anything funny in this:
An Egyptian-born academic being sought by London police as part of their investigation into last week’s terrorist bombings spent a semester at North Carolina State University. That’s according to school officials.
The Times of London quotes unidentified police sources as saying detectives are interested in finding Magdy el-Nashar, who recently taught chemistry at Leeds University in northern England. The Times says el-Nashar was believed to have rented one of the homes being searched in Leeds where at least two of the four suicide bombers lived.
N.C. State spokesman Keith Nichols says the 33-year-old El-Nashar studied chemical engineering at the school beginning in January 2000.
The basic facts are that terrorists will use our own technology and infrastructure against us. The muslims who were on those planes on 9/11 trained at locals around our country. And, one thing that the AP and other stories have missed is that NCSU has a large argricultural program, giving el-Nashar access to serious chemical fertilizers, the good stuff, if you will. Fertilizer is the key to most bombs.
So do not tell me that we do not matter, and that terrorism is a big city issue.

And you can rest slightly easier in knowing that that the FBI knows Charlotte is a prime target and many, many steps are being taken (that will never be reported in the news) to attempt to stop any possible attacks in the Charlotte area. I don’t know much about how Raleigh ranks on the FBI’s lists because I’m really too busy keeping up with Charlotte these days…
Haven’t heard anything from anyone about Raleigh. I wonder if the local FBI would be willing to discuss it? Hmmm. Might have to try.
