If All You See…

…is coffee that is going to have to be grown on the tops of mountains because of a 2C temperature increase, you might just be a Warmist

The blog of the day is White House Dossier, with an interesting catch from an Obama speech today (yes, satire).

And a double shot below the fold, an evil hairdryer! No face, so I decided not to use it as a primary. And welcome back, Sister Toldjah!

We’re Saved: Warmists To Take Lots Of Fossil Fueled Flights To Davos To Complain About Fossil Fuels

Via Twitchy

One of the main points of complaint regarding climate change will, of course, be fossil fuels, as it has been for over a decade. The complaints from Warmists regarding fossil fuels have been growing by leaps and bounds. Strange how Warmists continuously refuse to give up the use of fossil fuels themselves, and, in fact, are the worst offenders.

Heck, even the UK Guardian, a fantastic example of hyper-far left progressivism, noticed, and highlight the hypocrisy in a typical dry, British manner

How many private jets? An estimated 60% of the heads of state and industry invited will be taking about 1,700 private flights in and out of Zurich and other airports to attend.

To attend discussions about climate change, overconsumption, man-made pollution, unsustainable living, that sort of thing? Yes. What’s your point? (snip)

Do you not think that’s a little hypocritical? In what way?

Are you being deliberately obtuse? You don’t get to Davos by taking notice of little people’s complaints.

Those last two lines have to be take together for full impact.

Of course, most Warmists will immediately find exotic excuses to protect the climahypocrites, and will certainly yammer about everyone getting together to move beyond a fossil fueled world.

Democrats Big New Push: Punish “Corporate Deserters”

There’s nothing better than bringing back ideas that failed before even when Democrats controlled the Senate, and never seemed to get a vote in the Democrat controlled Senate about stopping corporate tax inversions, just a failed vote on slapping on extra taxes

(The Hill) Congressional Democrats said Tuesday they would seek any and all avenues to curb offshore tax deals, kicking off a new effort to punish what they call “corporate deserters.”

Senior Democrats on both sides of the Capitol brought back legislation to make it more difficult for corporations to merge with a foreign competitor and shift their legal address abroad.

“We believe we need fairness in the tax code,” Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said at a news conference announcing the legislation.

Democrats introduced the legislation last year as well, at the same time President Obama and other senior officials in the party questioned the patriotism of companies like Pfizer Inc. and Walgreen Co. that looked into so-called corporate inversions.

Said legislation languished in the House, obviously, and in the Senate, as well. Democrats have reintroduced that legislation in both (S.198 and H.R.415, searchable at Thomas). They also want to increase taxes on offshore corporations (S.162). Shocking, eh?

This push is going absolutely nowhere, and is just another typical populist anti-business stunt by Democrats, who would rather highlight their hatred of business and big government dominance rather than create an atmosphere where businesses have positive incentives to stay in America, like lowering the corporate tax rate, as well as simplifying it. Heck, even Obama wants to lower the corporate tax rate. Though, really, lowering it to 28% would still not make it competitive with other 1st world nations. Of course, the constant litany of rules and regulations emanating from the Executive Office are a negative incentive for domestic companies, as well.

AP Fact Checks Obama’s SOTU, Finds It Wanting

No, I did not watch Obama’s State Of The Union speech. I haven’t bothered with most of his SOTU campaign speeches, nor do I bother watching any of his speeches. They are a raft of campaign speeches, replete with lies, half truths, and insults aimed at those who disagree with him. He typically calls for bipartisanship, for working together, then goes on to taunt and denigrate Republicans. He did that again last night. The Weekly Standard refers to the speech as “defiant“. And four Associated Press writers had to sit through his speech and fact check it

(WRAL) The U.S. may not have “risen from recession” quite as rousingly as President Barack Obama suggested in his State of the Union speech Tuesday night. Seven years after that severe downturn began, household income hasn’t recovered and healthy job growth is complicated by the poor quality, and pay, of many of those jobs.

It’s always problematic when a president takes credit for an improving economy, just as it is when he’s blamed for things going bad. A leader can only do so much, for better or worse, and there are two sides to every economy. But after an election in which Obama largely held off on chest-beating, he claimed credit in bold terms for what is going right.

Obama has never had a problem with taking credit for anything that goes right, and blaming others for things that go bad. Vox notes that the most important sentence was “Tonight, we turn the page”. Yeah, it only took him six years. And people still do not think that the economy has recovered, rightly or wrongly. People at the bottom and middle are not feeling the stock market.

OBAMA: “At this moment – with a growing economy, shrinking deficits, bustling industry and booming energy production – we have risen from recession freer to write our own future than any other nation on Earth.”

THE FACTS: By many measures, the economy is still recovering from the deep scars left by the Great Recession.

Job growth has been healthy, but fueled in part by lower-paying jobs in areas such as retail and restaurants, which have replaced many higher-paying positions in manufacturing and construction. Part-time jobs also remain elevated: There are still 1.7 million fewer workers with full-time jobs than when the recession began in December 2007.

Sadly, wages are barely growing. Furthermore, the energy growth mostly has to do with the public sector, in spite of Obama administration policies, rules, and regulation. The majority of the jobs are part time and in retail and restaurants, jobs that were called “bad jobs” by Democrats when Bush was in office. There are also a historic number of Americans who have dropped out of the jobs market, and long term joblessness is also at historic numbers.

OBAMA: “I am sending this Congress a bold new plan to lower the cost of community college — to zero.”

THE FACTS: Zero for qualifying students; an estimated $60 billion over 10 years to the treasury.

Of course, his tax plan harms those who use 529 savings plans. And, really, what he means by “sending…a bold new plan” is “I’m saying I want this done.” He won’t actually send over any legislation proposals. At best, he’ll send over a piece of paper with a short rough outline, the same as can be read at Whitehouse.gov.

OBAMA: “Thanks to a growing economy, the recovery is touching more and more lives. Wages are finally starting to rise again. We know that more small-business owners plan to raise their employees’ pay than at any time since 2007.”

THE FACTS: A survey of small businesses by the National Federation of Independent Business does show that a rising proportion plans to raise wages. But plans to raise pay aren’t the same as actually raising them.

Probably the snarkiest thing in the article. No reason to add commentary.

There are a few other fact checks, such as working to degrade ISIS, and yammering about “not getting dragged into another ground war.” If you think about it, this is in part whining about fighting Al Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan, a nation state that al Qaeda operated out of, and sent terrorists to hijack 4 airplanes and fly them in a terrorist attack on 9/11. And, rather than engage in ground war, the U.S. is attacking Islamic jihadis in more countries than President Bush did, mostly using drone strikes and, surely, special operations groups (note: this is one of the few things Obama is doing that I heartily approve of).

Of course, this is the same president who flouts the law by having an illegal alien sit in the box with Michelle Obama.

Anyhow, Guardians of the Galaxy was a much better option than listening to this buffoon do his normal schtick. That was a really, really fun movie. As for Obama, now he gets back to being a part time president, more vacations, golf, learning about important things on TV, and generally just avoiding the hard work.

Say, “Could humour cut through the malaise that has smothered the public discourse” On Climate Change?

In a word, “no”

Why it’s good to laugh at climate change

Did you hear the one about the climate policy analyst? Or the polar bear who walked into a bar?

Climate change is not generally considered a source of amusement: in terms of comedic material, the forecast is an ongoing cultural drought. But perhaps campaigners have missed a trick in overlooking the powerful role that satire and subversion can play in social change. Could humour cut through the malaise that has smothered the public discourse, activating our cultural antennae in a way that graphs, infographics and images of melting ice could never do?

The problem is, when it comes to any politics and stuff, Lefties are not humorous. Or, in British, humourous. Their default mode is to sneer, condescend, insult, and abuse.

But while online ridicule directed towards climate ‘deniers’ (generally portrayed as either too stupid to understand the science, or as conspiracy theorists) may appeal to the usual crowd, its hard to see how this kind of approach will breach the political divide. After all, the feeling of being laughed at by a sneering, left-leaning elite is not appealing. One notorious attempt by the 10:10 campaign and director Richard Curtis at ‘humorously’ marginalising opposition towards environmentalism backfired completely. It turns out that most people don’t find graphic depictions of children’s heads exploding all that hilarious after all…

The hell you say! It says quite a bit about Warmists, a subsection of the Progressive movement, would think that the video had any humor, er, humour, in it at all. They thought so much of their “humor/humour” that they immediately worked to make sure copies of the video uploaded to Youtube and other outlets were wacked. Fortunately, there are still some out there

That’s what Warmists think is “humour”. These are people who think stabbing a “denier” with an icicle is funny.

Many “reasonable” Warmists have highly recommended that Warmists take a chill on the insanity, and are always ignored.

Surprise: Obama Chief Of Staff Takes Blame For Paris Absence

Previously, we learned that no one told Obama, who holds the position of President Of The United States, the most powerful position in the world, that the Paris march was going to be so big. Politico’s money line was

White House aides were so caught off guard by the march’s massive size and attention that they hadn’t even asked President Barack Obama if he wanted to go.

Someone had to throw themselves on the proverbial sword, ya know

(The Hill) White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough said Tuesday it was his fault the White House didn’t send the president or another senior member of the administration to a unity rally in Paris earlier this month following the terror attack on a satirical newspaper.

“We’ve said we regret we didn’t send someone more senior than our ambassador,” McDonough said in an interview with NBC’s “The Today Show. “That rests on me, that’s my job.”

Uh huh.

On MLK, Jr. Day Obama Celebrates Obama

I chose, unintentionally, not to mention Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the same way I choose not to mention many federal holidays. Obama went a different route (via Daily Caller)

Which leads to many Tweets such as

https://twitter.com/YodaCon/status/557243639932280833

The DC also notes

The rest of the tweet linked to a video of Obama urging Americans to tune into the White House live stream Tuesday to watch the president give his State of the Union address.

That’s right. The Youtube video has nothing to do with MLK, Jr. It’s funny, The Hill is running a story about “Obama tries to steal GOP thunder“. Heck, Obama does this to everyone else most of the time, constantly including himself in pictures of other famous people to make it all about himself.

Many In Leftist Hollywood Are Questioning Whether We Should Be Celebrating The Life Of A “Killer”

It’s time for another

Here we go

‘American Sniper’ Complaints Grow in Hollywood: Should Clint Eastwood Be Celebrating a ‘Killer’? (Exclusive)

Even as “American Sniper” breaks January box-office records and revels in six Oscar nominations, criticism over the subject of the film, sharpshooter Chris Kyle, is rising and reaching into the Academy of Motion Picture of Arts and Sciences, which votes on the Academy Awards.

Over the weekend, multiple Academy members told TheWrap that they had been passing around a recent article by Dennis Jett in The New Republic that attacks the film for making a hero out of Kyle, who said: “The enemy are savages and despicably evil,” and his “only regret is that I didn’t kill more.” Kyle made the statements in his best-selling book, “American Sniper,” on which the film is based. (snip)

But Academy members seem to be paying attention to the criticism that Eastwood and star/producer Bradley Cooper shouldn’t be celebrating a man who wrote that killing hundreds of Iraqis was “fun.”

“He seems like he may be a sociopath,” one Academy member told TheWrap, adding he had not yet seen the film but had read the article, which is being passed around.

There’s lots and lots more criticism, well, really, Barking Moonbat Syndrome, of the movie, Clint Eastwood, and Chris Kyle, which goes on and on and on.

Gateway Pundit notes leftists spray painted “Murder” on a billboard for the movie. Q&O wonders if the Academy member who throws around the word “sociopath” thinks the same of all military members. Patterico notes the leftism and bigotry of the Academy. Powerline finds liberals to be pretty dumb on the subject.

I’m not going to even bother attempting to make an argument in an attempt to change the minds of liberals. That’s a waste of time. As the saying goes, “don’t try and teach a pig to dance. You’ll waste your time and annoy the pig.” Was Kyle a killer? You betcha. We have those in war, you know. Audie Murphy was a stone cold killer, too, and it earned him the Medal Of Honor. How about the guys in Easy Company (Band Of Brothers), who liberated Kaufering IV, a subsidiary concentration camp of Dachau, among others? Yes, killers. War, unfortunately, requires killers. How about JFK? He certainly killed during WWII. Does anyone think most service members had a good opinion of Germans, Italians, Japanese, North Koreans, Chinese, British, and, heck, the other side during the Civil War?

What I will wonder is, if Hollywood is so concerned with “sociopathic” killers, then why have they made multiple movies about Che Guevara? Obviously, Hollywood loves movies about killers, hence the numerous Friday The 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street films, including reboots, but they really loves them some Che. Wait, didn’t Hollywood just make a “humor” movie about assassinating Kim Jong Un? Hollywood made a TV movie about Margaret Sanger. How many human deaths is she responsible for?

There are quite a few movies upcoming that celebrate people (and aliens, such as the movie Chappie) who kill. I don’t hear the complaints from Leftist Hollywood, do you?
