Washington Post: Let’s Give Trump The Wall For Legal Protection For 1.8 Million Dreamers

The Washington Post Editorial Board is no fan of a border wall. Though I’d bet that the majority of that august body have fences/walls around their mansions. However, they’ve seen the writing on the wall, pun intended, that they won’t get a “clean” DACA bill (hey, here’s a recommendation: a clean DACA bill that allows them 3 years to wrap up their affairs and self deport), so, how about legalization for the Wall?

How to get to yes on a deal for the ‘dreamers’

PRESIDENT TRUMP has laid out a framework for immigration reform. It can’t be the final answer, but it contains the elements of an imaginable deal. Legislators who want to get to yes should seize on those elements and start working.

One key to success between now and Feb. 8, the deadline Congress has set for itself, is not to try to solve the entire immigration conundrum. A grand bargain is certainly imaginable at some point. Democrats would get legal status for the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the country in exchange for stricter limits on, and some changes in the nature of, immigration going forward. But there’s no way that bargain can be achieved in the next couple of weeks.

Whoa! Now they’ve jumped the gun and are looking for a pathway for 11 million other illegals. No one is talking about that. I’m not sure why all the things in Trump’s framework can’t be included.

What is imaginable is a smaller-scale deal: safe harbor for the “dreamers” in exchange for Mr. Trump’s wall. That’s not a deal we love, for two reasons. One is that everyone, including Mr. Trump, claims to support a pathway to citizenship for the dreamers, the undocumented immigrants who were brought here as young children through no fault of their own. Why should they be a bargaining chip at all?

You’re right, let’s not use them as a bargaining chip, let’s just enforce federal law and deport them. For those yammering on about bargaining chips, might want to reconsider that talking point, because things could go the other way. You can’t strongarm Trump. Regardless, despite not liking the wall and thinking it’s value is low, the WPEB is willing to exchange it for the 1.8 million illegals who were in DACA and might possibly have been eligible for DACA but never applied.

In return, Mr. Trump is asking too much and overplaying his hand. In addition to a $25 billion “trust fund” for hundreds of miles of new wall and other border security measures, Mr. Trump wants a sharp contraction in family-based immigration, the mechanism by which most legal immigrants entered the United States for the past half-century; an end to the visa lottery that admits 50,000 immigrants annually from countries underrepresented in U.S. immigration; and a massive enforcement crackdown that would target not only undocumented immigrants who are long-term residents of this country, but also asylum seekers, including children, who are fleeing violence and oppression.

A pathway to citizenship for 1.8 million illegals, one which doesn’t even punish the people who brought the kids illegally, is worth a lot more than Trump is asking for. He’s certainly not overplaying his hand. Democrats should be careful in this line of attack, because Trump and the GOP controlled Congress could simply move on from DACA if Democrats caterwaul too much.

Congress should schedule all those proposals for debate this spring, along with a pathway to legality for 11 million illegal immigrants, plus protections for the more than 200,000 Haitians, Nicaraguans and Salvadorans whose temporary protected status has been revoked by the administration.

But in the next 10 days, it should do something simple and constructive: dreamers for the wall.

No. And double no for legalization for 11 million more illegal aliens.

‘Climate Change’ (scam) May Be Able To Affect Women’s Periods Or Something

Just when you think the Cult of Climastrology couldn’t possibly provide a wackier linkage to ‘climate change’, they say “here. Hold my beer”

Can Climate Change Affect Your Period? A Study Linked Air Pollution To Irregular Cycles & This Might Be Why

When it comes to menstrual cycles, everyone is different, and having an irregular cycle doesn’t necessarily mean you need medical help. But a new study pinpoints a troubling cause for irregular cycles: you’re more likely to have an irregular period if you breathed in polluted air as a teenager, according to research published in journal Human Reproduction. Air pollution is damaging to the environment and to our health — pollution is one of the leading causes of premature death, according to a study from 2015, and it’s getting worse thanks to climate change. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, climate change affects the quality of our air, and researchers don’t fully know the extent yet. It’s reasonable to assume that as air pollution worsens worldwide, climate change may indeed affect our periods in surprisingly profound ways.

Researchers from Boston University Medical Campus and Harvard School of Public Health analyzed data from 34,832 women and compared menstrual cycle irregularity to exposure to air pollution during their high school years. As pollutants increased, so did the chances of period irregularity. The explanation for this is simple but sobering, according to the study: “The menstrual cycle is responsive to hormonal regulation. Particulate matter air pollution has demonstrated hormonal activity.” Essentially, pollutants can affect our bodies in unexpected ways. A 2017 study found that air pollutants can change our metabolism and increase stress, and this new research provides additional evidence to support the idea that pollutants can interfere with our hormones.

You see what they’re doing: linking real air pollution to their belief that CO2 is the control knob that’s causing temperatures to go up. These are two separate issues, but, Warmists must link everything to their pet cult.

The article continues on, noting things like low income people, especially Blacks and Latinos, tend to be exposed to air pollution more than other classes. And, of course, they have to say that these same poor people are most effected by Hotcoldwetdry. Then we learn “Stress and diet are two other things that can affect your period regularity,” which is true, and they go into “food deserts” and such, ending with

This is the crux of the issue: The factors that can affect your menstrual cycle — diet, stress, air pollution — are things that minorities and low-income families struggle with at disproportionate rates. This new research is troubling regardless of how you look at it — it’s a reminder that climate change is real, and it’s affecting our bodies in worrying ways. But it’s also a reminder that marginalized people face a higher risk when it comes to health and environmental issues, and vulnerable populations will feel the impact of worsening air quality.

How is it a reminder? These are separate issues. But, again, in Warmist World, everything is linked to their insane beliefs. Well, except for giving up their own use of fossil fuels and making their own lives carbon neutral.

BTW, it’s rather ironic that the worst air pollution tends to occur in areas run by people (Leftists) who tend to believe in anthropogenic climate change, eh?

Democrats Expose That Immigration Is All About Politics, Not Caring

It’s long been a dirty, quiet secret: Democrats really do not care about illegal aliens. What they do care about is using them as a political weapon, and, possibly getting them the ability to vote. But, caring about them as people? Only so far as to patronize them to earn their support. Here’s Elizabeth Foley

The immigration fight isn’t really about the Dreamers — it’s all politics

President Trump’s immigration proposal offers a pathway to citizenship for approximately 1.8 million people, most of whom were brought to the United States as minors. Despite the generosity of the president’s immigration proposal to these so-called Dreamers, the far left is committed to continuing nasty, racially divisive rhetoric, with the ACLU tweeting that the proposal is “hateful” and benefits only “white supremacists.” Democratic Congressman Luis Gutierrez tweeted that the proposal is a “middle finger” to Latin America.

Trump’s predecessor, Barack Obama, allowed approximately 800,000individuals to stay, without any path to citizenship, for renewable three-year periods under his Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) executive order. If the Trump proposal is a hateful middle finger to Hispanics, presumably Obama’s much narrower order was a violent assault. Yet the far left’s leaders, including Congressman Gutierrez, praised DACA as an “antidote for do-nothingism” and now thinks that Trump’s more robust proposal — replete with a path to citizenship — is a surefire sign of xenophobia.

Such comments imply that the far left’s goal is not finding a workable solution for Dreamers but instead, keeping their base ginned up with hatred toward President Trump. By reflexively crying racism in response to reasonable policy proposals — which would achieve far more than any Democratic president or Congress has ever achieved — the political left undermines its credibility and suggests its goal is sowing racial division, not solving problems. It evinces a preference for “do-nothingism” over good-faith negotiation.

What, exactly, do Democrats think will happen with them calling everyone names? Ms. Foley mentions the Harvard-Harris poll, and

The poll found that 79 percent of Americans — including 72 percent of Hispanics and 85 percent of blacks — think that immigration policy should be reoriented toward an individual’s “ability to contribute to America as measured by their education and skills,” rather than “having relatives in the U.S.” And the same percentage, 79 percent — including 81 percent of Hispanics and 74 percent of blacks — agreed that the United States “need[s] secure borders.” Fifty-four percent support “building a combination of physical and electronic barriers across the U.S.-Mexico border,” including 53 percent of Hispanics and 39 percent of blacks. As for ending the visa lottery program, the poll shows that it is wildly unpopular: opposed by 68 percent of Americans, including 61 percent of Hispanics and 57 percent of blacks.

The more Democrats caterwaul and call people names, the less they are inclined to listen. And you know that Donald Trump will fight back. He won’t give in like previous Republicans. And, if Democrats continue, he might actually pull support, throwing up his hands and saying “I tried to find a way to get this to work. It would have been beautiful. Democrats poisoned the well, folks.”

Here was Nancy Pelosi, looking like death warmed over

https://twitter.com/ProofBlog/status/956992790604345344

(Fox News) House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) slammed President Donald Trump’s immigration framework, calling it part of a “campaign to make America white again.”

Trump’s proposal would offer a path to citizenship for  1.8 million so-called “DREAMers,” and call for $25 billion in funding for a border wall and security. It also calls for cracking down on chain migration and the diversity visa lottery program.

“The administration’s anti-immigrant framework is an act of staggering cowardice which attempts to hold the DREAMers hostage to a hateful anti-immigrant scheme,” Pelosi wrote in a statement on Friday. “The 50 percent cut to legal immigration in the framework and the recent announcements to end Temporary Protected Status for Central Americans and Haitians are both part of the same cruel agenda. They are part of the Trump administration’s unmistakable campaign to make America white again.”

Does anyone think these slurs help? Well, sure, if you want to scuttle any help for the so-called Dreamers and just create a political issue which doesn’t get solved. Democrats need to realize (but they won’t) that they aren’t in the majority, that Republicans now mostly seem to have a backbone (thanks to Trump), and that they aren’t going to get a “clean” DACA bill that gives Dreamers the ability to vote. If they want any legalization, they are going to have to give something back. If they keep this up, Republicans may very well walk away and move on to something else.

Sore Losers Plan To Sue Over New Tax Law

Let’s see: a piece of legislation passed by the Constitutionally elected Legislative Branch, signed by the duly and Constitutionally elected President. The only thing in the Constitution about taxation is that the federal government can have one. And this is what a few #resist weenies want to do

(Washington Post) The governors of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut said Friday that they are forming a multistate coalition to sue the Trump administration over the 2017 tax bill, challenging the constitutionality of a provision that limits Americans ability to deduct their state and local taxes from their federal bill.

The law sets a new cap of $10,000 on the amount of state and local property and income taxes that can be deducted from federal taxable income. That will disproportionately harm their residents, the governors said in a conference call, and is motivated by politics rather than sound fiscal policy. Residents most affected by the provision live in states run by Democrats that tend to have higher state and local tax rates, they said.

“The new federal tax law destroyed a century-old tax structure between the federal government and the states,” New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said on Twitter. “New York will sue.”

It doesn’t matter. There’s nothing in the Constitution that precludes the new tax structure. And arguing against it could, potentially, have the chance in a judge, or even the Supreme Court, ruling that all deductions of state and local property and income taxes are out of bounds, and there should be no deductions. That would be a bite in the nether-regions for high-tax states, would it not?

Megan McArdle notes this lawsuit idea, as a well as a few other bad ideas from Democrats to attempt to regain that tax money, and ends with

Given the problems with all of these strategies, it is a measure of state desperation that these are the ideas on the table — and that they are being seriously considered. In the end, these places may even be forced to consider the truly audacious Option 4: cut their taxes and learn to live within a new, tighter budget.

But, they won’t, at least not the majority of them. At the end of the day, elected Democrats want that spending money more than they want to take care of their citizens.

Blackrock Investment: Capitalism Has To Change To Stop ‘Climate Change’ (scam)

Yet another example of 1) people who already got theirs wanting to stop the same for others, and 2) Warmists hating capitalism (via Watts Up With That?)

(Renew Economy)  Capitalism must change to avert climate change, according to the vice-chair of the world’s largest asset manager, Blackrock.

Two weeks ago, Blackrock boss Larry Fink shook the corporate world with a letter demanding social responsibility in return for the support of his company, which manages around $6 trillion in assets.

On Wednesday at the annual World Economic Forum in Davos, Philipp Hildebrand expanded on that theme in a discussion of “fiduciary duty” – the responsibility to make clients the best return on their investments. (snip)

That would mean funds like Blackrock could become duty-bound to consider environmental risks such as climate change while making investments. It would create a dramatic shift, he said, but warned it would take time.

“We have to be realistic, we also have an enterprise to run, we have shareholders, this is a complicated story. Nobody is served by reducing this to very simple, fast things that we have to do immediately.

We have to change capitalism. This is really what’s at stake here. And frankly we need a new contract between companies, investors and governments,” said Hildebrand.

Al Gore, who was present, totally agreed (another guy who got his and wants to restrict others from doing the same.)

Anyhow, what is Hildrebrand recommending?

We also see many governments failing to prepare for the future, on issues ranging from retirement and infrastructure to automation and worker retraining. As a result, society increasingly is turning to the private sector and asking that companies respond to broader societal challenges. Indeed, the public expectations of your company have never been greater. Society is demanding that companies, both public and private, serve a social purpose. To prosper over time, every company must not only deliver financial performance, but also show how it makes a positive contribution to society. Companies must benefit all of their stakeholders, including shareholders, employees, customers, and the communities in which they operate.

Reading through the whole thing, what we’re seeing here is a recommendation for more government control of the economy, including investing. Because people who run up trillions in debt and tens of trillions in unfunded liabilities should be listened to.

However, we do have to wonder how much of this is simply patronizing the SJWs and Warmists, who typically share the same Progressive (nice Fascist) ideology, and how much is real Belief.

Surprise: Four Out Of Five Countries Are Late On Their Climate Change (scam) Dues

It seems like lots of countries love the notion of Doing Something in theory. Giving up their own money? Not so much

France, Germany, US among 166 countries late on UN climate dues

Four out of five countries are late in making their contributions to the UN climate change body’s operating budget.

Under Donald Trump, the US is actively refusing to fund international climate efforts. The majority of member states support cooperation in principle but have been slow to pay.

China, Brazil, France and Germany are among those failing to honour the agreed timeline for payments, a UN Climate Change statement on Thursday revealed.

The body’s executive secretary Patricia Espinosa focused on the positive, thanking 31 countries who paid their 2018 share by the due date of 1 January.

That’s weird. Isn’t Paris in France?

Negotiators approved a budget of €57 million ($71m) for 2018 and 2019, to support the climate talks process and implementation of the Paris Agreement.

Countries are expected to contribute according to a UN formula based on relative wealth and development status. Despite Trump’s stance, the formula implies the US will fund 21% of the core budget.

Good luck with that. They’ll be lucky to get anything.

At the last UN climate conference, French president Emmanuel Macron said Europe would replace the shortfall left by Trump’s refusal to contribute to the UN’s climate science body. This week, he said he had decided to “make France a model in the fight against climate change”. Yet his own country’s dues to the larger UN climate budget remain unpaid.

Hey, it costs a lot of money dealing with all the crime, terrorism, sexual assault, rape, fires, garbage, etc that comes from allowing in all those “refugees”.
