Happy Sunday! A beautiful, though pretty darned soggy day in America. Say a prayer for the people in the effected areas. If you want to help, here are a few good organizations you can donate to. The Salvation Army is also an excellent choice. Anyhow, this pinup is by Ellen Segner, with a wee bit of help.

This is the kind of garbage that teen girls are being taught
“It was the best, most mature decision I made in my life, because I got to determine my future." ???? https://t.co/qxVQMQO13T

You know I prefer to avoid getting into a discussion of abortion on demand, but this is truly demented. From the insane story by Elly Belle
Teens Are Speaking Up About Their Abortions Through Youth Testify
The new program is helping young people advocate for their reproductive rights.
When 22-year-old Jessy first learned she was pregnant, she was in shock. At the time, she was a junior at the University of California, Riverside, the president of her campus chapter of Planned Parenthood Generation Action, and a reproductive rights activist. Still, she said she never quite imagined herself as someone who might someday be fighting for her own right to have an abortion.
“I just didn’t know what to do for myself even though I knew what I would always tell others,” Jessy told Teen Vogue. “Knowing that what was inside me kept growing as time progressed really did take an emotional toll on me, my grades, my social life… it wasn’t until after I got my abortion that I got some sort of relief.
One would have thought with that SJW abortionista pedigree she would have understood the need to have responsible, protected sex.
Jessy was ultimately able to get an abortion, and now she is one of 13 young people between the ages of 17 and 24 who will be participating in Youth Testify. The new leadership program being launched by Advocates for Youth and the National Network of Abortion Funds (NNAF) is specifically for young people who have had abortions and want to share their stories to change the conversation around abortion and combat misinformation. “Because of all the hurdles I had to go through with insurance, I had to play the waiting game for so long, and because there’s so much stigma surrounding abortion, I was ashamed and didn’t try to reach out for more help,†Jessy told Teen Vogue.
Or, she could have just paid for the abortion herself. Better yet, had protected sex.
Youth Testify aims to provide these resources, and simultaneously reframe the narrative around abortion by giving platform to some of the most vulnerable abortion storytellers — particularly people of color, LGBTQ people, and people with varying abilities and citizenship statuses. The goal of the program, according to the NNAF, is to show that young people who have had abortions are the experts on reproductive rights as well as the experts of their own experiences, and must be trusted with making decisions without anyone else’s permission. The participants come from states all over the country including California, Illinois, Mississippi, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, and Washington, and have had anywhere from 1 to 3 abortions. Through a range of trainings, including community organizing trainings, and teachings on how to bring attention to the financial and logistical barriers to abortion that young people, the participants will learn how to tell their own stories while gaining a deeper understanding of abortion and reproductive rights so they can uplift and fight for others who face challenging circumstances.
So, we’re supposed to listen to the people who became pregnant through irresponsible, unprotected sex as the experts?
And although Veronika, a 19-year-old Latina woman (it’s great that Liberals put everyone in a Box, eh?), was ultimately granted the right to an abortion without approval from a parent or guardian, it didn’t make the process any less nerve-wracking. “It was stressful emotionally because I was really scared they would say no,†Veronika told Teen Vogue. But she also wants the world to know how much relief and joy her ability to get an abortion has brought her, and that she has no regrets. “It was the best, most mature decision I made in my life, because I got to determine my future. I made a decision for myself and for a child, that I wasn’t ready emotionally, mentally, or financially.â€
I would have thought that the most mature decision would been to not have irresponsible, unprotected sex with a person(s) that she didn’t want to have a baby with. And that is exactly where this type of insanity goes completely off the rails, as these SJW abortionistas are pushing abortions rather than safe, responsible, protected sex. They’re positioning the murder of an unborn life as the mature response, that it’s no big deal whatsoever. What they are saying is “just go ahead and have sex, no big deal, don’t worry about protection, just have an abortion!” Psychos. This is not a healthy attitude.
It was a night devoted to self-expression, body positivity, and creativity in ALL its forms. https://t.co/TkEutTLCF8

Susan Collins Was Sent A ‘Three-Foot-Long Cardboard Cutout Of Male Genitalia’
Maine Republican Sen. Susan Collins’ Washington office received a “three-foot-long cardboard cutout of male genitalia†as liberal activists attempt to sway and even scare her away from supporting the confirmation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh, reported The Washington Post Thursday.
Collins has scheduled a meeting with Kavanaugh Friday to discuss concerns she has about supporting the potential Supreme Court justice, reported WaPo.
In addition to Collins’ staff reporting being sent the obscene cutout, which was accompanied with profanity, the senator’s staffers have also been inundated with less-than-polite calls from Kavanaugh protesters, according to WaPo.
Utah Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch’s office weighed in on the cutout via Twitter Thursday evening.
“The left’s campaign to pressure Senator Collins has gone from threats of sexual violence against young staffers to actual sexual harassment,†the tweet said. “This is abhorrent behavior and (again) deserves to be roundly condemned from the right and left.â€
Of course, you find nothing about this at the NY Times, Washington Post, MSNBC, CBS, NBC, LA Times, ABC, CNN and so forth.

You know, this is totally your fault for driving your fossil fueled vehicle and going back in time to create monster hurricanes like the Great Galveston Hurricane on 1900, which killed somewhere between 6,000 and 12,000 people
How climate change is ‘loading the dice’ for more perilous hurricanes
As Hurricane Florence was closing in on the Carolina coast this week, the role of climate change in intensifying weather was back in the national conversation. Amna Nawaz talks with Radley Horton of Columbia University about the link between climate change and sea level rise and rising temperatures.
Amna Nawaz: The question is a vital one, with more and more people living along the coast and the seaboard, which many say is a problem in and of itself.
And there is certainly some debate among scientists about how climate change impacts a storm. But, increasingly, researchers are trying to explain the connections immediately after a storm hits. And they say climate change is definitely associated with both sea level rise and rising temperatures. (snip)
Let’s start with the million-dollar question we face every hurricane season. What is it we can say definitively about the link between climate change and these kinds of hurricane?
Radley Horton: Well, there’s a very clear link.
And there’s really three dimensions to it, to the way that human activities have increased the risks associated with these types of storms. The first is because climate change and warming has increased sea levels. And, as a result, whenever any storm hits, water levels are that much higher, just by virtue of that baseline having been raised, that gradual change in sea level. (slight snip)
The second component is the amount of rainfall associated with a given storm. As we have warmed the atmosphere, as we have warmed the upper ocean, it can now hold more moisture. So, for a storm of a given strength, there’s that much more moisture available to fall out in the types of catastrophic rains that we’re seeing here.
The third element, which is a little less certain than those first two, is that the storms themselves can become stronger with climate change, the actual strength of the winds, the depth of the low pressure.
These same people were claiming that human caused climate change was causing massive wind sheer that were killing off hurricanes, as well as upper level winds that steered them away from land during the period of 13 years without a landfalling major hurricane on U.S. soil. Notice where Amna states “explain the connections immediately after a storm hits.” This is not science, it’s retroactively attempting to Blamestorm and prop up your cult. They can’t future predict, but, damned if they won’t find a human caused link afterwards.
Remember, less than a week ago they were wondering if this would hit Category 6 status (which doesn’t exist). It was like they were hoping Florence would hit NC/SC as a monster major hurricane.
And, yes, climatic changes could be having an effect on systems, but, there’s no reason to assign witchcraft to it: the climate has always changed.

People have died. People are trapped. People are without power. People are scared. There’s more rain, wind, and flooding to come as it very slowly moves across the Carolinas

The 5 am advisory has it at sustained 50mph winds moving a slow jogging speed of 5mph. And what’s MSNBC concerned about?
(Daily Caller) During MSNBC’s Hurricane Florence coverage on Wednesday morning, journalist Kate Snow claimed that some “Latino†families were “scared†to evacuate to a shelter because they were “afraid†of being deported. Ali Veshi followed up by saying he can “fully understand†the sentiment, alluding that the fear had to do with Trump administration’s policy.
“There’s an area of manufactured homes that we visited yesterday, for example, in a lower area, where a lot of people had stayed behind,†said Snow. “In fact, some families telling us they were scared to leave because they’re Latino and they were afraid of going to the shelters. Of course, the governor of North Carolina has said that no one will be, you know, penalized for going to a shelter. They’re not gonna, they’re not gonna – ICE is not gonna be active at this point. But there were people staying in their homes out of fear.â€
“Yeah, there’s some people don’t have a place to go,†Velshi said. “There are some people who need medical care, their care aid is local and isn’t leaving. There’s some people who need oxygen. And this business about people without documentation going to shelters, we’ve heard over and over again that ICE doesn’t go to shelters. But I gotta tell you, after the last couple of years, I can fully understand why people who are undocumented are scared about doing this sort of thing.â€
Here’s an idea: if they weren’t here unlawfully, they wouldn’t be scared.
As #Hurricane #Florence approaches, ICE & @CBP’s highest priority remains the preservation of life and safety, along with the safe evacuation of people leaving the impacted area, & the speedy recovery of the region. #FlorenceHurricane2018 #HurricaneFlorence pic.twitter.com/zH3Q5snMkE

ICE has been involved in many hurricane and natural disaster relief efforts, and has not been out there detaining illegal aliens. But, it just goes to show that #resistance nutters like MSNBC are more concerned with illegal aliens than lawful citizens.
San Francisco’s streets are full of poop, people using drug needles openly, and used drug needles all over. LA’s streets are filthy. Homelessness is high and rising. Housing prices are beyond ridiculous. And so much more. But
California is ‘launching our own damn satellite’ to track pollution, with help from Planet
California plans to launch a satellite to monitor pollution in the state and contribute to climate science, Governor Jerry Brown announced today. The state is partnering with satellite imagery purveyor Planet to create a custom craft to “pinpoint – and stop – destructive emissions with unprecedented precision, on a scale that’s never been done before.â€
Governor Brown made the announcement in the closing remarks of the Global Climate Action Summit in San Francisco, echoing a pledge made two years ago to scientists at the American Geophysical Union’s 2016 meeting.
“With science still under attack and the climate threat growing, we’re launching our own damn satellite,†Brown said today.
This would be the same climate summit which witnessed thousands of people from around the world fly in on fossil fueled airplanes, not too mention all the fossil fueled autos used to ferry them around.
Planet, which has launched hundreds of satellites in the last few years in order to provide near-real-time imagery of practically anywhere on Earth, will develop and operate the satellite. The plan is to equip it with sensors that can detect pollutants at their point sources, be they artificial or natural. That kind of direct observation enables direct action.
Technical details of the satellite are to be announced as the project solidifies. We can probably expect something like a 6U Cubesat loaded with instruments focused on detecting certain gases and particulates. An orbit with the satellite passing across the whole state along its north/south axis seems most likely; although Planet specializes in geosynchronous orbits, it seems unlikely that a single craft sitting in one place could offer adequate coverage. That said, multiple satellites are also a stated possibility.
What they do not tell you is that a 6U Cubesat is what’s called a nanosatellite, because it is tiny. It is also not meant to be in orbit for more than a year or so. They are for quick projects, not long term surveys. They cost at least $50,000, then at least another $100,000 to launch. If Brown wants a real satellite for long term science, well, something like that cost at least $50 million, plus launch costs.
Anyway, what’s it going to survey? How much carbon pollution is put out be the citizens of California as they drive their fossil fueled vehicles and welcome lots of people coming on vacations on fossil fueled flights?

Of course, if you’ve ever been through one, you understand. The highest reported wind gust was 47 at Raleigh-Durham airport, and there is a constant wind of at least 15 mph, if not more. There have been periods of heavy, heavy rain. I have a 10 gallon fishtank sitting on the back deck, haven’t gotten around to re-sealing it yet. It probably has about 2-3 inches of water in it, but, factor in that the gravel is still in it.
Power was off for a bit, since around noon or so. We decided that it was worthless being open at work, got home around 230, many roads were flooded (and dumbasses were still blowing stop signs and red lights). Front porch light was on, looked a little sketchy, like the power wasn’t flowing enough, then went out. Tried to take a nap, power came back on around 330. Had a couple peanut butter chocolate chip cookies, power went back out. Flickered a few times, then out. Too sugared up to go back to sleep, too windy and rainy to take a walk.
Power is back up now. We’ll see if it lasts. Give it up to Walmart, they must have been sitting on huge stockpiles of Coleman 2 burner propane camp stoves. Purchased on yesterday just in case with 2 little propane tanks. I have yet to open it, if I do not need it, I’ll return it. Though, considering keeping it for that once in a blue moon time when we lose power for days.
So, just a quick update, in the event the power goes back out. Seems like the lights are a bit lower than they should be. From the TV, though, I see much, much worse in areas like Wilmington, and I know the further south you go from Raleigh the worse it gets. Talk about whatever you want.
Our state bird, the Cardinal is showing us Carolinians their resilience during #HurricaneFlorence. Amazing to see them just sitting on a branch in a tree at our home in Fayetteville. Around the :30 mark a big gust comes. #ABC11 pic.twitter.com/xx5K0fODrB
