Good News: We Can Look To Ancient Poop To See How Seabirds Deal With Climate Doom

Well, it seems to me that seabirds have survived warm and cool periods during the Holocene just fine, but, hey, if they want to play with poop, that’s on them

Ancient poo offers insight into how seabirds will fare as climate warms

Scientists were collecting peat cores on South Georgia’s Bird Island when they made a surprising discovery – one which offers new insight into how climate change will affect seabird populations.

Researchers were analysing the geochemistry of the cores, to get an insight into historic wind speeds on the island, when they found layers of ancient bird poo preserved in the peatland.

This bird poo, or guano, now gives them a window into 8,000 years of seabird history, in one of the most important seabird breeding sites on Earth: Bird Island is home to vast colonies of wandering albatrosses, petrels and penguins.

The island is subject to the Southern Hemisphere westerly winds: powerful bands of wind that circle Antarctica and drive much of the Southern Ocean’s behaviour. Studying their past activity helps to improve predictions of how this might change as our climate warms.

Like it’s done many times before?

Since the first seabird colonies formed, the researchers identified five major phases of population expansion – all five coincided with periods when the Southern Hemisphere westerly winds were less intense.

This connection between wind strength and seabird abundance has implications for the future. These Southern Hemisphere westerly winds have been intensifying in recent decades, driven by climate change, meaning we could see dramatic declines in seabird numbers on the island in years to come.

So, what caused those warm periods previously? Therein lies the central question.

Bummer: Chicago Has Already Cancelled This Year’s Cinco De Mayo Celebration

I have to wonder: how many Mexicans actually celebrate this? It actually seems more of a holiday adopted by Americans as a reason to drink, as pushed by beer manufacturers

Cinco de Mayo parade in Little Village canceled for second year as immigration enforcement concerns persist

For the second year in a row, the annual Cinco de Mayo parade in Little Village has been canceled due to immigration enforcement concerns, organizers said.

The parade typically draws hundreds to the neighborhood and celebrates Mexico’s victory over Napoleon III’s French army in the Battle of Puebla in 1862. But this year, Chicago’s Mexican community is still on edge in the wake of “Operation Midway Blitz,” the aggressive deportation campaign the Trump administration launched across the Chicago area last fall.

“Many families are experiencing fear and uncertainty due to increased immigration enforcement actions and the ongoing threat of raids,” organizers with the Cermak Road Chamber of Commerce and Casa Puebla said in a statement.

People are still avoiding public gatherings out of fear, organizers said, adding, “there is nothing to celebrate.”

We could make most of the raids go away if the government would turn in the illegals who committed crimes. If the illegal community would turn the criminals in.

Since then, Chicago and the suburbs were targeted by masked federal agents, who detained residents while at times deploying chemical irritants like tear gas. Widespread protests and grassroots efforts to protect immigrants followed. The ramped-up enforcement actions eventually waned, but the impact to Latino communities like Little Village, Pilsen and the Southeast Side has lingered.

They’re scared and concerned? Good. That’s part of the reason for massive actions.

Your Fault: Outdoors Getting Worse From Hotcoldwetdry For People With Asthma

I told you to give up your fossil fueled travel, move into a tiny home, and give your money and freedom to government, but, no, you didn’t care

Climate change is making outdoors challenging for people with asthma

Khyana Brown said she hasn’t had an asthma attack in over a decade, something she attributes to her weight loss.

“I’m trying to get off my medicine,” Brown said. “I don’t want to always be on albuterol for the rest of my life. So, I’m trying to get off that where it’s possible.”

She recalls a childhood spent in and out of the hospital due to asthma attacks, summers at an asthma-centered camp, and nights connected to a CPAP machine. But, Brown said, making healthier choices has helped manage her chronic lung condition.

“I just want to be normal,” Brown said.

However, sticking to a workout routine can challenging when extreme heat rolls in, she said.

“I could work out in this (the cool weather) and be all right. My asthma will not bother me,” she said. “But if it’s hot, ain’t no working out.”

Yes, that 1.7F increase since 1850 is horrible

Dr. Katrina Korfmacher, deputy director of UR Medicine’s environmental health sciences, said climate change is making outdoors particularly uncomfortable for people who deal with allergies and asthma.

“The kinds of trees that produce pollen that people tend to be allergic to are going to be more common,” Korfmacher said. “We also expect that air quality in general will get worse, hot and humid days, and all three of those things are worse for people with asthma.”

Same old same old. What do they think happens during a typical Holocene warm period? And, maybe, lose all that extra weight. I was going to drop the photo from the article about that, but, I really do not want to be that kind of ahole. At least today.

TDS Blocked: White House Ballroom Construction Can Continue

It’s one of the ultimate bits of Trump Derangement Syndrome: The East Wing was already demolished. Why not simply let the new ballroom be built? TDS. So, the loonies sued to stop construction, got friendly judges to cooperate, and basically left a big pile of dirt

Court Rules Construction of Trump’s Ballroom Can Proceed

The construction of President Donald Trump’s White House ballroom can proceed, a federal appeals court ruled late Friday night. The judgement came just 24-hours after a lower court judge continued to block above-ground rebuild on the site of the former East Wing.

AP reports a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit put on temporary hold the order by U.S. District Judge Richard Leon halting part of the $400 million project.

The ruling marks a substantial victory for the president in his effort to redesign the storied American structure.

Construction is now expected to continue until the next hearing, which is due to take place on 5 June.

Trump demolished the East Wing last fall to build the massive ballroom in that space.

Seriously, there needs to be another hearing? Just end this idiocy. Put a stake in its heart. Let it be built.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation later sued to block construction, arguing the president had overstepped his authority by moving forward with the project without first getting approval from key federal agencies and Congress.

Maybe yes, maybe no, but, the building is already torn down, what do you want to happen? Leave a big pile of dirt there? The taxpayers are not paying for it. It’s all private donations. Move on. See a competent psychologist who is not a left wing loon.

PRC Climate (scam) Lawsuits Put On Hold Till Supreme Court Rules

The People’s Republik Of California could avoid this altogether by banning the use of fossil fuels in the state

Calif. climate change lawsuits paused during SCOTUS review

Lawsuits over climate change in California will be on hold while the U.S. Supreme Court decides whether they can be pursued.

San Francisco Judge Ethan Schulman Tuesday issued a stay of the litigation, finding it would “be in the interests of justice” to do so while the Supreme Court makes its decision in Boulder’s lawsuit against Suncor.

Dozens of lawsuits brought by government officials who hired private lawyers on contingency fees have been filed through the years, though only Hawaii’s and Colorado’s supreme courts have let them progress past Big Oil’s motions to dismiss. Most recently, the Maryland Supreme Court affirmed dismissals of cases by Annapolis and Baltimore, finding they “cannot be seriously contemplated.”

Though they make claims for public nuisance and violations of consumer protection laws, defendants and the Trump administration assert they are improper attempts to influence the international energy market. State judges in Pennsylvania, South Carolina, New York, Maryland and New Jersey have agreed.

“Pausing wasteful and nonsensical claims that 50 US states and their subdivisions should set global climate policy through lawsuits is a victory for common sense and reliable energy,” said Theodore Boutrous, Jr. of Gibson, Dunn and Crutcher, who represents Chevron.

I wonder if one of the Conservative justices will note that most of the cities and counties suing have failed to give up their own use of fossil fuels for their operations.

The cases consolidated in San Francisco include the State of California’s, San Mateo County’s, Marin County’s, Oakland’s, Imperial Beach’s, Santa Cruz’s, Richmond’s and San Francisco’s.

Jackpot-seeking lawyers crafted their complaints to claim companies like Exxon tricked the public into using fossil fuels. They were also designed to stay out of federal court, where the energy industry could have mounted an even stronger defense.

These are all shakedown suits. That’s it.

Illegal Gets Married In ICE Detention Center To Avoid Deportation

This might not work out the way they think

Couple marry inside ICE detention center in final bid to keep alleged illegal migrant husband in the US

Most brides spend months agonizing over floral arrangements, wedding cakes and seating plans.

But one California woman just spent her big day passing through locked doors to say “I do” in a Bakersfield immigration detention facility.

Christina Serrano married her fiance Juan Serrano inside the Mesa Verde ICE Processing Facility, where he has been detained for the past seven months.

The groom, an alleged illegal immigrant from Guatemala, has been held there since a routine immigration check-in — a moment his wife said upended their lives overnight.

Um, here’s the question: is Christina an illegal or a citizen? Even if she’s a citizen the immigration court could easily determine that it’s an attempt to keep him from being deported, even with the child, especially if he illegally entered and/or has a criminal history.

By tying the knot, Serrano hopes to file immigration paperwork that could help her husband remain in the United States or at least delay his removal. Whether it will work remains uncertain.

It’s all so tedious and idiotic.

New York Governor Backs State Restrictions On ICE

We just learned about this

and yet Governor Kathy wants to protect illegals

Governor Hochul provides update on immigration enforcement proposals, with mixed reaction

State lawmakers passed a third and fourth budget extender this week, pushing back the State Budget deadline until April 20th, nearly three weeks past the April 1st due date.

As lawmakers on Thursday passed the most recent extension, Governor Kathy Hochul presented her side of the immigration debate, formally voicing support for a mask ban on immigration enforcement officials.

“I want to make sure that ICE agents can no longer hide behind a mask while violating innocent Americans, proposing a ban on face coverings for State, local and Federal law enforcement officers,” the Governor said. “They’ll no longer be able to conceal their identities while interacting with the public. They had not done it before, other federal agencies like FBI and DEA, they don’t do it. Local law enforcement doesn’t do it. So, why should ICE have the ability to do something that we otherwise don’t allow for other individuals law enforcement? So if you’re enforcing the law, you should not be hiding from that.”

But, Antifa and other Demo voting loons can still wear face coverings as they commit mayhem and violence, eh, Kathy?

The Governor’s proposal mirrors legislation proposed in July by Albany State Senator Pat Fahy (D) and Manhattan Assemblymember Tony Simone (D), called the Mandating End of Lawless Tactics (MELT) Act (S.8462 Fahy/A.8908 Simone). That legislation would also ban the use of face coverings along with plainclothes by ICE and other federal enforcement agents during civilian immigration actions conducted in New York State.

“We need to make a strong statement, armed masked federal agents doing what appear to be abductions on our city streets, our main streets is just unacceptable, and this is New York,” Fahy told CBS6 on Thursday. “Here in New York, we value transparency. We have spent hundreds of millions in helping local and state enforcement agencies buy the body cams because it helps protect the agents, the law enforcement agent, as well as individuals on the street in these encounters. So transparency matters. The other thing is, when you have armed masked agents on our streets unidentified, you are undermining local law enforcement, and anyone local or state will tell you, you need community interaction and support in order to solve crime. So it is just no longer a viable excuse for not having full transparency.”

And calling lawful detainment of illegal aliens “abductions” entices the wacko element of the Dem party to go loony against federal agents. You know, maybe it was a really bad idea to back Biden as he let millions of illegals in, let millions of fake asylum seekers in, and millions on TPS, adding to the tens of millions already here, because it meant that Trump would go full bore on allowing federal law enforcement to go after them in massive operations. Of course, they didn’t think Trump would get elected (again).

Oh, and good luck with the mask thing. You have not the power.
