Oh Noes, MAGA Seizes On Mamdani’s Grocery Stores Requiring ID

Never believe your lying ears

But, you know,

Mamdani’s Office Denies There Will ID Requirement For City-Owned Grocery Stories— After MAGA Erupts

Republicans PounceMAGA figures on Monday circulated a days-old clip of Mamdani being asked how the city would keep people from taking advantage of the grocery stores, which will offer about a 30% discount on some essential items compared to average prices, in which he said it was a “program for New Yorkers to be able to put food on the table, not a program for people to be able to make a quick buck through reselling.”

Mamdani then called New York City Economic Development Corporation head Jeanny Pak to the podium to elaborate, and she said “we are looking to make sure that we target New Yorkers, whether it be sort of a library card-esque [system] and also we manage who’s buying and that is focused on everyday New Yorkers.”

MAGA, seizing on the opportunity to attack socialist Mamdani and promote the SAVE Act, alleged the comments meant that Democrats support ID for some things, such as city-run grocery stores, but won’t support proof-of-citizenship to register to vote.

Seizing! Pretty sure that “libary card-esque system” is an ID card. I had to show an NC ID card to get my library card, showing that I am me and I live in Wake County.

Conservatives erupt over ‘racist commie’ Mamdani’s NYC grocery store ID plan

New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani is facing criticism from conservatives — again.

Conservative commentators and Republican officials are ripping Mamdani after his administration said last week that the city-operated grocery stores would be limited to city residents, who would use a library card-style identification system to verify eligibility.

Critics quickly compared the proposal to the ongoing national debate over voter identification laws.

Political commentator Scott Jennings mocked the plan on X, writing, “I can’t believe married woman – who often have children – are effectively being barred from these grocery stores. Monsters.”

Reality television personality Spencer Pratt also weighed in, calling Mamdani a “Racist Commie” and criticizing the proposal by contrasting it with opposition to voter ID requirements.

“You want your government-subsidized arugula? Show your papers! Ask for ID to vote? BIGOT!!!” Pratt wrote.

According to Democrat Talking Points requiring government identification is raaaaacist, because People Of Color!!!!! cannot get an ID.

Louisiana Joins Investigation Into Fauci After His 5th Amendment Hearing

Can this go anywhere, since he was a federal employee doing federal employee things?

Louisiana AG says state will investigate Fauci after Senate hearing

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill (R) said her state will investigate Dr. Anthony Fauci after a recent fiery Senate hearing where the former chief White House medical adviser pleaded the Fifth Amendment in response to questions from Republican lawmakers.

In a post on the social platform X on Saturday, Murrill said that “Louisiana and Missouri deposed Dr. Fauci.”

“At the time, he claimed to not recall many key details of his own actions and now we are discovering contemporaneous records he kept,” she added. “Louisiana will join Alabama & Florida in investigating Fauci and whether he committed any other offenses that could be pursued in our State courts.”

On Wednesday, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier (R) said he was beginning an investigation into Fauci after the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases invoked the Fifth Amendment more than 100 times during a Senate hearing focused on the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Fauci’s lack of candor to Congress is unbelievable,” Uthmeier wrote on social media. “My office is launching an investigation into Dr. Fauci. It’s past time we get the truth of what happened during COVID.”

That’s great and all, we might get some answers in a couple years, but, the time to hold people accountable was years ago. Particularly since the Credentialed Media and Democrats will rally around Fauci and anyone else, despite how badly their own families and lives were messed up.

I remember when the Washington Post was saying that it was pretty much like getting the flu, and that older folks and those with conditions should be careful, but, that it wasn’t a big deal.

Remember all the Talking Points? You’ll get your life back. Oh, well, you need to get a booster. Hey, you still need to wear a mask and stay away. It won’t stop you from getting it, it just won’t be that bad. Well, it might be bad, so, get another booster. And so forth.

Bummer: More In Germany Are Becoming Climate Skeptics

All while the Earth is boiling, you know

Germany: As temperatures rise, so does climate skepticism

Climate skeptics are no longer a small but noisy minority. They are now “a mass phenomenon,” according to researchers at Flensburg University.

In a study published in the scientific journal Global Environmental Change, authors Katharina Gies and Emanuel Deutschmann reported that between 2022 and 2023 there was a big jump in skeptical attitudes to climate change among the majority of the 3,074 people surveyed. Some 59% said they had more doubts about climate change in 2023 than they had had in the previous year.

The researchers wrote that the respondents’ individual economic situations could not be considered the primary explanation for the increase in skepticism. Other factors, they said, were much more decisive: A right-leaning political orientation, distrust of state institutions, and dissatisfaction with democracy.

Social psychologist Marlene Altenmüller said the Flensburg publication is important and fascinating, though she has doubts about its alarming tone. Other studies show that “the number of people who have doubts is still very small,” she says. Altenmüller, a junior professor at the Leibniz Institute for Psychology in Trier, conducts research into science reception: How people perceive scientific evidence, and what they think about the scientific system and its researchers.

Obviously, the article and the “researchers” delve into all sorts of gobbledygook, yammering about groups and right wing and conspiracy theories

Both Altenmüller and the Flensburg researchers emphasize that climate change skepticism comes in different guises. One form is the rejection of climate policy measures. The basis for this may be the assumption that it won’t be all that bad, or doubt that human activity is the cause. Another is the belief that all the talk about climate change is simply a con, a conspiracy.

Well, maybe seeing all the biggest believers refusing to practice what they preach makes them wonder if it is all a bunch of BS. I mean, hell, when you see the head of the UN take a long fossil fueled trip, including a private jet and a helicopter ride, to go to view Mt. Everest and complain about climate doom, you might has some doubts.

Detentions For Illegals Hit Record High In July

cBS News publishes this like it’s a bad thing

ICE detentions set Trump-era high in July, as immigration crackdown widens

Detentions by Immigration and Customs Enforcement set a monthly record high for the second Trump administration in July, internal agency data obtained by CBS News shows, as ICE widened its crackdown, making arrests at airports, immigration check-in offices and communities across the U.S.

Last month, ICE took into custody more than 46,000 individuals facing deportation because of alleged immigration violations, like entering the U.S. illegally or overstaying their visas, according to preliminary Department of Homeland Security figures.

The statistics, which have not yet been publicly disclosed by the federal government, show that a summer enforcement surge by ICE continued to intensify in July, as the agency faced pressure from the White House to record 2,000 arrests across the country each day. An average of 1,500 detainees entered ICE custody each day last month, the data indicates, though some of them were first arrested by Customs and Border Protection agents.

The over 46,000 book-ins in July surpassed the roughly 43,000 detentions recorded by ICE in June, at the time the highest tally during President Trump’s second term. As of this weekend, ICE was holding 68,000 detainees in its sprawling detention system, approaching a record high of over 70,000 detainees set in January, according to internal agency figures.

Keep it going, folks!

Theresa Cardinal Brown, an immigration official at DHS during the Obama and Bush administrations, said one main difference in ICE’s strategy since Noem was pushed aside is how operations are advertised. Under the “previous leadership,” she said, “there was an intent to make the enforcement public, to do it publicly, to be seen doing it.”

Now, Cardinal Brown noted, ICE is dramatically expanding enforcement without the same “in-your-face” approach as before.

But she said it’s clear “the administration never gave up on its goal of mass deportations.”

Early on the point wasn’t just to detain, but, to scare illegals enough that they would leave.

Unbelievable: Wacko Judge Stops The Ending Of TPS For Somalians

Well, it is actually rather believable, because these wackos will find any excuse to stop the repatriation of people

Trump immigration agenda faces setback as Obama-appointed judge issues fresh TPS stay

A Massachusetts federal judge has once again blocked the Trump administration from ending temporary protected status (TPS) for Somalia, issuing a new administrative stay after plaintiffs rewrote their lawsuit around constitutional claims just days after a federal appeals court threw out similar stays terminating TPS for Ethiopia and South Sudan.

U.S. District Judge Allison Burroughs, appointed by former President Barack Obama, issued the administrative stay Friday after African Communities Together and other plaintiffs filed an amended complaint alleging the Trump administration violated the Fifth Amendment by terminating Somalia’s TPS designation based on racial and national-origin discrimination.

The plaintiffs filed an amended complaint and emergency motion on Thursday in a renewed bid to keep Somalia’s TPS protections alive after the Supreme Court’s June ruling in Mullin v. Doe sharply limited lower courts’ ability to block TPS terminations.

Burroughs’ latest order has intensified growing criticism over whether district judges are using administrative stays to work around higher court rulings. It comes just days after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit reversed similar administrative stays issued by U.S. District Judges Brian Murphy and Patti Saris, who had temporarily delayed the Trump administration’s TPS terminations for Ethiopia and South Sudan.

Here’s the thing: if the Trump admin does ignore her then the Democrats, especially the elected class and their pet media, will start bleating about Trump ignoring the courts and he must be a dictator, all while failing to mention the SCOTUS decision. Or, the Trump admin fights it in court. Either way the Somalians and others stay, and Democrats hope they can run the clock out and win the White House in 2028.

Iowa Solicitor General Eric Wessan argued Burroughs’ order improperly grants emergency relief despite what he described as legally deficient claims.

“I looked at the amended complaint in the Somalia TPS case,” Wessan wrote on X. “The district judge has entered a novel ‘administrative stay’ to sort out the claims. She has declared the TPS termination ‘void’ for now, while deciding whether any of the claims can justify a more permanent pause.”

At this point they’re making rulings and then figuring out how to make them stick.
