(UK Mirror) Just Stop Oil activists are plotting to cause summer misery for thousands of holidaymakers. The environmental group plans to wreak havoc at airports here and across Europe from mid-June.
Protesters will halt flights by storming terminal buildings, glueing themselves to runways and clambering onto jets in tourist hotspots like Spain, Greece and Turkey. It means travellers will likely face agonising delays here – while those lucky enough to take off could be forced to wait hours on the runway on the other side.
Last night, MPs and travel experts accused the group of “shooting itself in the foot” by causing misery and risking lives. Our undercover reporter learned of the plot at a meeting attended by some 50 hardcore activists. Just Stop Oil’s so-called poster girl, Phoebe Plummer, was greeted by roars as she announced “disruption on a scale that has never been seen before”.

Transitioning to energy sources with less or even no CO2 emissions is necessary to slow the rate of warming (eventually). Humankind is especially resistant to forward thinking. We react to our environment as it is – not is it is likely to be for our great-grandchildren.
And yes, there are zealots who believe we must stop all use of fossil fuels today, and zealots who believe fossil fuels are risk free. When the negative impacts are immediate, e.g., acid rain, smog, strip mining, oil spills, ozone holes, we act. For certain, the oil, coal, car and chlorofluorocarbon corporations pushed back but the legislatures and courts agreed with those being harmed. Today, the fossil fuel companies are looking at their own eventual extinction.
Unfortunately, opponents (deniers) of global warming action have won the arguments. The “1st world” nations have kicked the can down the road for a few decades as CO2 and warming increase.

How will people get around without gasoline cars? Coal burning cars with tail pipe scrubbers? As you may not know, methane is CH4, so when burned with O2, is converted to CO2 and H2O. Hydrogen gas is no more ready for prime time than is EV technology – and of course, fuel cell cars convert H2 to electricity. Nuclear cars? Good luck!

And even at that, the carbon is locked away as long chain carbon, plastic! For now. It eventually breaks down to methane and ethylene. This is not to say plastics are harmless, just that they are not a major contributor to global warming.
Transportation and electricity production account for most of the CO2 emissions responsible for global warming.

Most of the added atmospheric CO2 comes from burning fossil fuels, not volcanoes.
