Why do I love the Bluegrass State? I paid my property taxes for the year today. Paying in October rather than November gives me a 2% discount, but being 70 years old means that my — our property taxes, for an entire year, on 7.92 acres, with a house, with a separate garage/shop, and with 500 feet of river frontage, were $91.04.
No, that’s not a typo: $91.04! Our property taxes in Pennsylvania were slightly over $3,000! The taxes decrease every year, and ought to be close to zero next year.
And yet our commenter H seems to think that people like you who live there are all uneducated and stupid rubes. Unlike where he lives and the people have fantastic graduate degrees in modern African dance and work at Starbucks and Auto Zone and pay $12,000 a year property tax on a $500,000 property.
