Poll: Americans Getting Fed Up With Giving Arms To Ukraine

This goes with the numerous polls that show Americans are getting tired of giving Ukraine money. But, Biden needs his grift to keep going, so, he’s going to give a “major speech”

(NBC News) President Joe Biden said Wednesday that he would deliver a “major” speech about funding for Ukraine and “why it’s critically important for the United States and our allies that we keep our commitment.”

So, he’ll give a major speech about some other country with little implications for the US, but, not about Americans suffering under Bidenflation? He’s also apparently figured out a different way to divert taxpayer funds to Ukraine

Why is he so intent on spending taxpayer funds on Ukraine? Anyhow

US public support declines for arming Ukraine -Reuters/Ipsos

Support is falling among Americans of both major political parties for supplying Ukraine with weapons, a warning sign for Kyiv, which relies heavily on U.S. arms to fight against a Russian invasion, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll.

The two-day poll, which closed on Wednesday, showed only 41% of respondents agreed with a statement that Washington “should provide weapons to Ukraine,” compared to 35% who disagreed and the rest unsure. (snip)

Some 52% of Democrats backed arming Ukraine in the most recent poll, down from 61% in May. Among Republicans, support for sending weapons to Kyiv fell to 35% from 39% in May.

Some 34% of Democrats in the poll agreed with a statement that Ukraine’s problems “are none of our business and we should not interfere,” compared to 56% of Republicans.

Of course, the pro-forever war crowd thinks better messaging would help

“The declining support is having a negative effect on congressional support, and eventually, prospects for additional aid packages,” said Elizabeth Hoffman, director of congressional and government affairs at the Center for Strategic & International Studies.

She said better messaging would help, including making it clear to Americans that much of the money allocated for Ukraine stays in the United States, including in jobs at U.S. weapons producers. Biden said on Wednesday he would make a major speech soon on why it is necessary to continue helping Ukraine.

I would hope the declining support from Americans would have a negative effect on congressional support, but, the Elected Class often doesn’t listen. As for jobs, please, stop that. They’d have jobs anyhow. And, consider that the UN had a report claiming the war in Ukraine would last another 6-7 years. Are we going to keep dumping taxpayer money and arms into the grinder?

What are the odds that Ukraine is blackmailing Biden – threat to expose Biden Crime Family ties and payoffs orchestrated by little Hunter with 10% for the Big Guy – unless the US keeps paying and paying and paying?

    • Professor Hale says:

Very unlikely. Everyone in America already knows that Biden is corrupt. He did it openly, bragged about it, and the US government impeached Trump for asking Ukraine to investigate it. You cannot blackmail someone over an open secret.

  2. Professor Hale says:

“…much of the money allocated for Ukraine stays in the United States,”

True, but misleading. Intentionally so. Why is it that Democrats cannot seem to tell the truth about anything?

Facts: Most of the arms given to Ukraine so far have been taken out of stock. Money designated to replenish those stocks are in the DoD budget, not in money for Ukraine. And there is no DoD budget again this year, just a continuing resolution. Certainly the Himars missiles and launchers, artillery ammunition, Bradley fighting vehicles, and howitzers of many sizes are all from stock. Rumor is that the M1-s are new manufactured (if and when delivered), even though the Army has thousands of them sitting out in the desert of California collecting dust. This is why when the Army announced last month that they had made an “accounting error” and “found” another 100 million in stuff to give away, they were not lying. The value of stuff in stock that the Army has no intention of ever using has highly speculative official value that can be changed with the stroke of a pen. Only new-purchased materials have an actual price based in reality and only new materials contribute to jobs.

Additional facts: A great deal of the military materials are not included in the funds given to Ukraine. Up to this point, a great deal of it was delivered in cash that was specifically intended to pay the government of Ukraine’s payroll as well as other expenses. Very little of that has any sort of audit trail.

If and when F-16s are given to Ukraine, those will be taken from models in storage that the Air Force no longer wants, because they have already replaced them with new F-35s. Thus, no new production and no “jobs staying here”.

She left out the amount of money that sticks to the fingers of politicians and “stays in the USA”.

Final Fact: The gifts in all forms that the USA is giving to Ukraine to support their war started in 2014 and at this point is ruinous for American defense stockpiles. We are at or below our own required minimums for war reserve in many types of critical ammunition, artillery, rockets and missiles. But, that’s OK. It’s not like the Biden Administration is being overtly hostile to any major nation states.

The Rand Corporation has a thorough discussion of the pros and cons of US support of Ukraine.

Prevent a Long War: The longer this war continues, the more likely use of nukes and the more likely that Russia will attack NATO. Rand values a negotiated end to prevent a long war as the best (if only!) outcome.

Ukraine is intent on “retaking” the captured lands (Sec of State Blinken has also said Russia cannot keep any Ukrainian lands!). Rand considers this to be an unlikely and even counterproductive expectation.

The components of a negotiated end would be 1) western support conditioned on Ukraine willing to negotiate, 2) global support for conditional reduction of anti-Russian sanctions.

At this tine, neither Russia nor Ukraine is willing to negotiate. Ukraine because they are defeating the Russian military, Russia because of pride.

Russia invaded Ukraine unprovoked. Putin fetishizes Ukraine as a necessary part of Russia.

Rand does NOT recommend that the West suddenly withdraw support for Ukraine’s defense.

It’s a long read but well worth it.

  5. Elwood P. Dowd says:

Yes, as the US depletes its materiel reserves it must replenish them. Same for other NATO nations.

Russian allies China, India, Israel, the American right, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Cuba, Belarus, Turkey, Pakistan and the other “Stans” either have directly expressed support for Putin/Russia or not condemned the invasion.

  6. L.G.Brandon!, L.G.Brandon! says:

Russia invaded Ukraine unprovoked. Putin fetishizes Ukraine as a necessary part of Russia.

Russia was hardly unprovoked. For quite some time NATO has been encouraging and teasing Ukraine to join or the Ukraine has been trying to join itself. Everybody here knows it including you Elwood. And everybody here knows it Russia would not be happy with the Ukraine joining NATO. With perfect reason. So why act so surprised. Plus, why on earth would you take sides with a country that’s basically nothing but a bunch of leftover Nazis?

We realize Russia fell from favor with you when they blew out the communists. You hate those non communists but you can live with the Nazis they’re OK. As far as I’m concerned and most of us here, there’s not a hair’s worth of difference between the communists and the Nazis.

It seems that for some reason you want the Ukraine to join NATO in order to deliberately provoke Russia. I cannot understand why. That would cause all kinds of problems that we don’t need. Plus on top of it all the Ukraine was not our ally. Therefore Russia and Ukraine going to war have absolutely no bearing on the United states. They are neither enemies nor allies. And I don’t care if they killed each other right down to the last man. I wish you communists would stop trying to lead America into a nuclear war to satisfy your own anti American anti Christian hatred.

Putin doesn’t fetishize anything. It seems to me that the leftists in the United states fetishize the second coming of mao’s cultural revolution. Seems that’s what you’re trying to do to America and all the Western nations.

You’re constantly making smart ass comments about magats. And I have yet to figure out why the concept of making America great again makes you so aggravated. One would think you’d want your country to be great but in your case obviously America is not your country.

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

      Please read the Rand analysis.

Anyway, kid, I grew up in the post-WWII days when the USSR was our sworn enemy, and we practiced atomic bomb drills in elementary school in the 50s-60s. Our school had basement stores of 5 gal potable water in our “fallout shelters”. Out in the “country” one can still find fallout shelters. So no, kid, we didn’t care for the communists from an early age. Back then communists were a real threat. Today? Not so much, although the nuCons have re-invented communists. There are 5 communist nations remaining: China, Cuba, Vietnam, Laos and North Korea.

Do American conservatives really believe one nation is entitled to invade another because they don’t like their politics?? Putin has had a hard-on for Ukraine for decades, longing for a Soviet style Republic. Plus, he’s afraid parts of Russia will desire democracy. American conservatives parrot the Putin/Trump lies.

MAGAts (rhymes with faggots) are the devotees of Donald J Trump, an America-hating, authoritarian charlatan who will destroy America if he needs too. Trump calls allegiance to him as Making America Great Again. His “America First” trade policy with China cost Americans billions. US farmers lost sales to China and now rely on government subsidies. Our trade deficit ballooned. He cut taxes $1.5 TRILLION for corporations who plowed the money into stock buybacks (to his credit, Trump criticized them).
