Hochul should force NY towns to take migrants, advocates’ letter says
Dozens of advocacy groups have joined in a letter to Gov. Kathy Hochul demanding the state force towns to accept migrants from New York City, pressuring the governor to take a more aggressive approach to the city’s deepening asylum seeker crisis.
Hochul should take executive action overruling county-level orders meant to block the movement of migrants, according to the Monday letter, which was led by the Coalition for the Homeless and the Legal Aid Society.
The groups said in the letter that Hochul should deploy executive powers to “invalidate executive orders in counties that have refused to accept new arrivals” or “alternatively, have the State intervene in pending cases to overturn the obstructive executive orders.”
The letter also asked Hochul to personally pressure mayors and county executives to accept migrants; to help coordinate relocation efforts; and to identify more state-run spaces to house people.
First off, shouldn’t the towns and counties which vote overwhelmingly Democrat, and especially those which are sanctuary areas…

The sort of executive action urged by the groups could swiftly invite lawsuits. The state is already a party to a flurry of legal proceedings around the treatment of migrants and the city’s efforts to bus arrivals upstate.
Yes, lawsuits would be coming fast. For one thing, that would be taxation without representation. Remember, these same types of “advocates” constantly yammer on about “defending Democracy.” I guess their version is be forcing people to accept things. Are any of these advocates inviting the illegals into their own homes? Are these groups, some of which are not even based in the state of New York, offering to provide aid themselves? Is the Riverside Edgecombe Neighborhood Association, Syracuse Tenants Association, Saratoga Immigration Coalition, Hudson/Catskill Housing Coalition, and the others hooking the illegals up?
I hear Detroit is missing about 500,000 residents. Plenty of city owned property to put people in. Plenty of other immigrants to show them the ropes.
The absolute brilliance of Governors Greg Abbott and Ron DeSantis has exposed the left. The left just love them some sanctuary cities, and happily supported them, when those northern cities had a relatively few illegal immigrants living there, when most of the illegals were infesting the Southern states.
But when the two great Governors started shipping the illegals to the cities that said they supported them, we quickly found the difference between supporting them and wanting them.
The sad part is that most — certainly not all! — of the illegals are good people, people willing to work hard to support themselves and their families. They are the Pilgrims of the 21st century, the kind of people we should want in this great country, and certainly worth a lot more than the welfare malingerers and junkies who are real American citizens. I’ve said it before: when we find an illegal who is here, working hard and trying to make a better life for his family and himself, we should keep him, and deport a junkie or welfare malingerer in his place.

As healthful and helpful as that might be it’s unlikely such actions are Constitutional. Perhaps the government could “persuade” the miscreant to renounce their US citizenship. Another hitch is that the recipient nations may not want our human refuse.

We have two policies which enable the problem. Having a social welfare system, in which the government provides just enough to the malingerer to survive, apparently forever, as long as the malingerer agrees to not demand too much, encourages that Faustian bargain, and attracts even more illegal immigrants. And not charging junkies with crimes, not putting them in jail until they have detoxed, and not forcing them into rehab, continues the narcotics crisis. Not locking up drug dealers for the rest of their lives encourages more drug dealers. We enable people to become human refuse by making being human refuse survivable.

That’s not true. What is true is that conservatives/Repubs want to deport them all, including the hard workers.
While Mr Dana and I could reach a reasonable compromise, the conservative movement cannot be reasoned with at this time.

As Americans we should have a choice as to who we let into our nation. Just like as a homeowner you have a choice as to who you let into your house. As it stands illegals come into this country whether to work or just to rob and we end up paying for their housing their food their clothing their education their medical care their retirement etcetera. If people like Elwood want to do that then everybody registered with AD behind their name should be charged a surcharge to pay for it but the rest of it should not have to pay for their largess.
