UN report: Climate change already so severe humans nearing adaptation limits
A comprehensive new United Nations-sponsored assessment of climate change finds that global warming is reshaping the world more rapidly and severely than was known several years ago.
Why it matters: The report finds that climate change is affecting every person’s physical and mental health, and classifies nearly half of the global population as being “highly vulnerable” to climate impacts.
Importantly, the report — part of the biggest update to climate science findings since 2014 — concludes it is no longer possible to fully adapt to some global warming impacts.
So, no more fossil fueled flights in private jets to vacation spots for climate meetings?
U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres described the report in a statement as an “Atlas of human suffering.”
“Nearly half of humanity is living in the danger zone — now. Many ecosystems are at the point of no return — now,” he said.

Zoom in: The report notes that we are past the point where “minor, marginal, reactive or incremental changes” will adequately prepare society for the climate impacts that are in store. Instead, it calls for larger-scale shifts “in most aspects of society” to reduce climate risks and enhance resilience, among other goals.

Ukraine makes case for ending fossil fuels
You probably didn’t see it — not with the understandable 24/7 coverage of Russia’s barbaric assault on Ukraine — but there was some bombshell news Monday about the world’s slower-motion apocalypse: climate change.
The world’s top experts convened by the United Nations to study the effects of greenhouse-gas emissions by humans — the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, or IPCC — said the dreaded effects, such as deadly droughts and floods and rapidly rising sea levels, are already here and likely to become worse than earlier predicted. The UN secretary general António Guterres put it bluntly when he said “people and the planet are getting clobbered by climate change.”
Blah blah blah. I’m wondering if Will Bunch and the Las Vegas Sun have given up their own use of fossil fuels? And, we can all figure out that Las Vegas collapses without fossil fuels.

Human beings have been living in bone-dry deserts, in steaming jungles, and frozen Arctic lands since well before modern technology was developed, yet the author doesn’t believe we can adapt?
The world population is closing in on 8 billion. Deserts, tundra and jungles are unlikely to support that many humans. We’re no longer clans of hunter-gatherers, we have aggregated in civilization, depending on agriculture to survive.
Adapting will take many trillions of dollars that has to come from somewhere.
Anyway, we’ve already demonstrated that we’ll do little if anything to avert the crisis.

I have pointed out I am all for green energy as we transition from Fossil fuels to a green society. Zero problem with a seamless transition. But for now. Vote out the left. Vote them out in droves. They will destroy this country for a pipe dream.
A pipe dream that somehow they can force on the public GREEN with no contingency. They did it with Covid and mandates and now they are doing it with a contrived WAR in Ukraine to destroy oil and natural gas with nothing to fall back on except 17-20 percent of our energy coming from Wind and Solar.
Vote out Democrats in droves. They will destroy this fuking world before AGW ever has the chance. Meanwhile, private industry keeps on keeping on in developing GREEN and eventually fossil fuels will die a slow and agonizing death, long before the planet is destroyed by them.

That would be bad if it were true. Strange thing is, the people living on this planet don’t see it happening, which means they are adapting just fine. The problem, if there is one, is overpopulation. If all those Asians and Africans stopped breeding like rabbits, the world has demonstrated that it can easily and sustainably support them all.
The CRISIS is that more people around the world are catching on to the Green Religion. (Which coincidently became VERY popular within the year after the fall of the Berlin Wall.)
As technology has succeeded in providing nearly all with a decent standard of living, the things that the Very Wealthy have that they can claim as their own have shrunk. I’m sure THEY don’t intend to follow us peons into the dystopian future they have planned for US.
