Climate Cult Fail: California Looks To Natural Gas Due To Lack Of Energy

Much like so many nations in Europe who embraced unreliable, expensive “green” alternatives, and ended up burning more wood and going back to natural gas, and even coal, Californians are learning a valuable lesson

California looks to natural gas to keep lights on this winter

stop global warmingAfter years of restricting the growth of fossil fuel infrastructure, California is looking to natural gas for power generation this coming winter after drought and wildfires leave the state with few other options to keep the lights on.

California has spent years moving away from fossil fuels to reduce planet-warming greenhouse gas emissions. But U.S. states like California and Texas have faced notable challenges to their electrical grid in recent months, and worldwide power crunches have forced other countries to ramp up output of coal and other fossil fuels to maintain power.

This year, the state has leaned more on gas fired-power plants as extreme drought has cut hydropower output by more than half, while frequent wildfires often shut electricity imports from other states.

Drought is typical in California. Probably not the best of ideas to depend on hydroelectric dams to provide 11.24% of California’s power. Why don’t they just slap up more solar panels and wind turbines? Or, just have everyone turn their stuff off? Suffer for their beliefs. Oh, right, Warmists only want the Bad stuff to happen to other people.

Gas supplies have been tight in Southern California for years due to pipeline limitations and reduced availability of Aliso Canyon (a NG storage facility), resulting in curtailments to power generators and higher prices for consumers.

Environmental groups want the facility closed entirely and oppose the proposals.

“Instead of pursuing clean energy solutions that can eliminate the need for Aliso Canyon entirely, California is proposing to expand this dangerous facility – putting communities at greater risk of another catastrophic leak,” said Alexandra Nagy, California director of Food & Water Watch.

I agree with the “enviros”: they should close it and let the chips fall where they may. Of course, many of those same enviros can be a problem

    Let’s recap:

Enviroloonies want only solar and wind, but they don’t want those either.

Guys, I hadn’t heard the Amish are recruiting, but you should go ask (and leave the normals alone).

  2. Zombies are Cool says:

Germany dismantled all their coal and Nuke plants and went to solar and wind. Now they are bargaining with the DEVIL(Putin and Russia) and begging for a natural gas pipeline so they can take care of their population. Thats just to heat homes and build things.

All of the EU is begging for a pipeline from the Middle East to Europe in order to fuel their energy needs since they can’t build enough solar and wind to handle that load, and it’s not from a lack of trying. Solar and wind work, but they are every bit as invasive to the atmosphere as is Natural gas and coal.

China pretends to go along with the AGW agenda by saying they will stop building coal-fired power plants but then they keep on building them. They have opened up new coal mines as we speak to keep firing up their country. You cannot ask them to change overnight after spending 50 years building coal plants to fuel their needs.

America has come farther than any other nation in the way of renewables and clean energy. Yet America is the boogie man of AGW. America has done more to conquer racism than any other nation on the planet and yet America is the Boba Yaga of racism.

AGW is indeed a scam by billionaires to keep the wealth in their hands.

It does make one wonder why so many middle class kids are so loyal to the interests of the very wealthy. It’s almost as if someone taught them all to be that way in some sort of collective school environment with a standardized curriculum.

“AGW is indeed a scam by billionaires to keep the wealth in their hands.”

    Almost right.

Obviously, AGW is a scam by MILLIONAIRES to become Billionaires.

    • Hairy says:

Trump cut the taxes of billionaires because ” they are the job creators”
Don’t you want them to create more jobs?

      • Professor Hale says:

Trump cut taxes on everyone who pays taxes. Yes, Billionaires ARE part of EVERYONE. And I don’t care what people do with their own money. They can blow it on hookers and coke if they prefer. That’s what freedom looks like.

        • Jl says:

Don’t expect John to post anything remotely intelligent on taxes-all he has are Democratic mantras…

  4. Hairy says:

Teach they already are slapping solar panels up as fast as they can get their hands on them
CA is 2nd in utility scale solar construction behind only that duper liberal progressive state Texas

    • Jl says:

John-still waiting for the evidence that solar panels are needed in the first place. Should be easy to produce, right?

      • Professor Hale says:

        JL,
Solar panels are a huge benefit in places that are remote, where the cost of running grid lines or delivering generator fuel exceeds the value of power demanded or when the distance would create more power loss from friction than is delivered. They also have value where the noise and smell from diesel generators are wanting to be avoided.
        1. Small deployed military bases.
        2. Remote hunting cabins and lodges.
        3. Polar Ice cap bases (summer only).
        4. Satellites (in space).
        5. Small safety lights with very low power demand.

But it is best to think of Solar panels as batteries, not generators. X amount of power goes into making them. X-y% comes out over the life of the panel.
